One thing that makes DS2 stand out is how absolutely miserable it is.

    Posted: 07 Jul 2021 09:33 AM PDT

One big theme of DS2 is the rising and falling of kingdoms, the constant cycle of light and dark, and the Children of Dark undermining what little progress humanity could make after the events of DS1. Each and every time the human race begins to build something great and prosperous it simply crumbles under its own weight - sometimes literally in the case of the Old Iron Keep. Without this interim, without the personal stories of loss such as Lucatiel, without witnessing Vendrick and Aldia be so desperate to find a solution and what that cost them, without seeing the hopeless, pointless, existentially empty world of Dark Souls 2, I think the ending of the franchise wouldn't work.

Dark Souls 2 takes one moment of time, on a universal scale, and blows it up to show just what a existentially awful place this universe is. Later, when Dark Souls 3 sees fit to glimpse forward to where this world is ultimately headed it decides to land in what appears to be the remains of Earthen Peak. That's important because it wants you to think back to the people of Dark Souls 2. The second game is far more about people than either of the other two and when DS3 brings that back up the message is clear: humanity is ultimately and completely fucked.

Drangleic isn't a significant place and the events of Dark Souls 2 don't happen at any significant time. Dark Souls 2 is a snapshot, a still-life that illustrates how things are bad, things have always been bad, and things will probably never get better. The base game could have easily been set in Shulva, Eleum Loyce, or whatever and the result would have been the same because it all goes down the drain eventually.

Without witnessing the stories of Drangleic, Brume, Shulva, and Eleum Loyce the conclusion of Dark Souls 3 would lack impact, I think. Dark Souls 2 illustrates what's actually happening on the ground level. To the everyman. The linking of the fire, Gwyn's horrific deed, and the cycle of light and dark mean nothing to the player if they can't see just how badly humanity as a species is doing. In Dark Souls 2 we see that humanity is in a horrific state. The curse of undeath is easy to understand, sure, but until you see the soul-crushing, existential pointlessness of living day-to-day through these ages you cannot appreciate just how bad it is.

Sir Alonne was my most enjoyable boss fight since Gehrman in Bloodborne.

    Posted: 07 Jul 2021 04:08 AM PDT

It might even be in my top 5 for all soulsborne games.

He's fair, but fast. He has a weapon buff, but only happens if you are hit by his charge. His damage isn't insane, but its a constant threat, though you have opportunities after his attacks to heal. His grab hit me oddly a few times, but only if i tried rolling before he had poked forward. When i rolled as he poked, i dodged it.

Not to mention the beautiful boss arena and amazing soundtrack.

My only gripe would be the run to him, there should have been a shortcut once you'd reach the second floor.

A fair, enjoyable fight. He didn't take me as many tries as other bosses (around 5 or 6), but for me thats never been an indiciator of a good boss. He was just fun as hell to fight, and after every death i thought "ah yeah, i didnt do X right" instead of "what the hell, that's bull"

    10/10.

Will increasing my poise stop enemies from stun locking me?

I don't know how poise works in DS2. Will increasing it help enemies from stun locking me?

Fume Knight, in my experience, is the only boss in the soulsborne that made me go Ultra Instinct

    Posted: 07 Jul 2021 06:20 AM PDT

Ok, so DS2 was my first soulsborne and Raime is the boss i mostly died to, this fight cost me 2 weeks, an hour or two per try and mostly using all of my estus every fight.

Then one day, on my second try, i destroyed him with one estus use only. And what's more unbelivable is that i have gone in for 5 more rounds with him as a summon, mostly i'm the only one doing everything as the host is scared especially on second phase.

No other boss in the soulsborne gave me this type of feeling of owning a boss way too hard that made you go and retry them a couple of times more to see if it's just a fluke or not.

I mean i fought Manus, Artorias, Gael, Midir, Nameless King, Lady Maria, Orphan of Kos, Ishin and others more and not one gave me this type of feeling, all of them just gave me the feeling of relief that i finally killed them

This boss, no matter how bad his hit boxes are, he will be the top soulsborne experience i would ever have

Doing an ng+2 run, never had this much fun with this game for years

    Posted: 07 Jul 2021 12:58 PM PDT

I'm going through with 20adp, an smelter and aged smelter sword+5, lightning greatsword+10, ivory king UGS+4, game seems way more fun switching between those weapons depending on the area and the non exagerrated adp level makes it way more enjoyable, added to all the additions with ng+ other than difficulty, i'm having the Time of my life

Just some confusion with buying DS2

    Posted: 07 Jul 2021 10:20 AM PDT

Heyy lads and lasses. As you probably know there's still Steam Summer Sale going on and after finishing DS1 I'm thinking of buying DS2 since it's discounted but buying DS2 is a lot more confusing that it would seem.

So there's DS2 and DS2: Scholar of the First Sin and what is exactly the difference? Also what is the Upgrade mentioned on the DS2: Scholar of the First Sin?

I've got another question too. What is the DARK SOULS™ II - Season Pass?

I'm thinking of getting this bundle. Is it a good choice?

    Thanks for all the help.

    Build suggestions for DLC

    Posted: 07 Jul 2021 01:48 PM PDT

I was running hex build for main game. I have completed memories. I thought of doing dlc before main bosses.

Which builds are viable for each dlc? I have not done any stat reallocation yet.

Deaths to Smelter Demon, 2. Deaths to the armoured turtle dude who slams the bridge just after him, 4

    Posted: 07 Jul 2021 12:13 PM PDT

Just one of those things that happens. My third play through. Quality build with a plus 6 rapier.

Just thought it was funny dying twice to the smelter demon but the armoured dude on the bridge just kept knocking me off. Took me 5 tries to get passed him.
