Two years ago today, I bought Dark Souls Remastered for my dad as a fathers day gift

    Posted: 20 Jun 2021 08:19 AM PDT

For context, my dad has been a dark souls fan since I think July 2014 when they put it on Xbox games with gold. I didnt become a fan of From Software before 2019 when I also got to play bloodborne. I prefer bloodborne over dark souls but theres lots of fun in dark souls too.

Anyways, back to the story. I remember waking up that day and getting ready as usual. Me and my dad were getting ready to go to Waffle House and while my mom was distracting him, I bought Dark Souls Remastered from the PS4 store on his account and then turned the TV off so the surprise would be waiting for him.

Then we went to Waffle House and I got him to get into a Dark Souls conversation and he spoke about how he wishe he had Dark Souls Remastered, not knowing what I just purchased from the PS4 store not too long ago.

Then we get home and found out the whole reason I got him to talk about Dark Souls was to hype up the surprise when he turns on the TV and finds that Dark Souls Remastered is downloading. I remember the reaction he had and it was glorious.

That day he immediately got to work on a new build and I watched for about an hour or two.

That was a good fathers day. A good breakfast plus an amazing gift.

Without my mom distracting him the surprise wouldn't be possible so I thank her for helping me!

Starting Dark Souls for the very first time tonight, wish me luck!

    Posted: 20 Jun 2021 09:22 PM PDT

I have heard a lot of good things about this and the entire series of Souls game and decided to pick it up a couple of days ago. But now, I think I am mentally prepared to face the challenge. Despite the sheer amount of times that I am going to inevitably die, I am going to have a blast. Also, if anyone has a few basic tips or pieces of advice for me, I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thank you Diana

Not sure if this is a good place to post this message but here I go regardless.

Thank you to Diana on Xbox One Dark Souls Remastered. You were really patient with me (Emrys Fae) and helped me through the catacombs, even showing me all the treasures scattered throughout the area. I had a lot of fun and hope our paths cross as friends again someday. 🙂

Who Is Your Favorite Character Featured Mostly or Exclusively in the Lore?

    Posted: 21 Jun 2021 12:04 AM PDT

One of my favorites is Artorias, the fabled hero who sealed away the Abyss, but actuality, was driven mad by the Abyss, it's the tragic tale of a hero who fell short of his goal, but also the tale of the true hero, the Chosen Undead, who sealed away the Abyss but would disappear as soon as they arrived and would be forgotten to the sands of time.

    I fucking hate blightown

    Posted: 20 Jun 2021 11:01 PM PDT

Hi, im a dark soul newbie, this is my first ever play through. The game is great so far until i get to blightown, i fucking hate this place, i hate it more than those cursed frog in the sewer. Im curently at the middle way bonfire (i greed for a loot and jump down and accidently found the bonfire). After dying way too many times and lost all of my soul and dont know where to get it back, my question is there anything worth the effort to find in blightown? I want to get out of this place asap but i dont want to miss any good weapon or armor. I dont want to watch guide on youtube because im scare of spoiler. Any tip to get the fuck out of that place would be great

I like the game so far, but bightown kinda tilted me a bit and made me dont want to play anymore, the game is already hard af (for me) so i dont want this level to ruin my playthrough with this amazing game

    I beat Artorias!!!

    Posted: 21 Jun 2021 02:35 AM PDT

Sorry for the glorified flex post but this is my first time through dark souls and I just beat my now favorite boss so far Artorias.

I had heard so much about this boss even that it would be harder than O&S and it did not disappoint. I'd still call O&S a little harder but this fight was still very difficult for me.

The perfection needed to take him down is very intimidating but boy did it feel satisfying to dodge his blows.

Again sorry for the flex post but I just felt like I have to share beating this boss for the first time in my first ever souls game.

    Artorias laid to rest. https://imgur.com/gallery/dWpoFb1

    Sanctuary Guardian!!!

    Posted: 20 Jun 2021 10:46 PM PDT

    Hey guys.

My first time through the game and I just wanna say this boss is amazing!

First of all it looks awesome (I mean it's a manticore ffs) and it's moves look awesome. It is a good challenge but not too hard. It feels incredible to dodhe its attacks as they are very fair but take some skill and timing to dodge (my favorites are the wind and lightning attacks). The poison potential of its tail is cool as well.

Another great part about the boss is that it gives just enough time to attack and heal where it doesn't feel unfair but it still feels like you have to fight for and deserve every window of opportunity.

I'm incredibly excited for the rest of the dlc and this was such and amazing start. Honestly along with Quelaag and O&S the best boss in the game so far.

So. What do you guys think about this boss? I have never seen it mentioned at all here.

    Trophy problemo

    Posted: 20 Jun 2021 11:32 PM PDT

    Hey there fellow dark ones,

I recently gained interest in the trophies you can get on reddit for 100& the games, but problem is, my stupid brain has launched the game (and ds3) forgetting mods are active and not on alternate account, so, through process of getting un-banned, I had to delete my save that had the 100%, and not sure if I read right but do I need to send a picture of the account too?

Thank you for your time <3

    Posted: 21 Jun 2021 01:43 AM PDT

I made it to the pit right before Pinwheel with the Rollie pollie bonewheel Skeletons. Theres a brick wall in the crevice where I can hear him smithing?

I know theres a bonfire there because my 1st character had access to it before. What in the Kos is going on? Also where is a torch?

    I’ve finally done it.

    Posted: 20 Jun 2021 08:43 PM PDT

After beating Bloodborne and DS3, I was kind of worried about how much I would enjoy Dark Souls due to potentially dated mechanics and lack of fast travel.

I was completely surprised. I thoroughly enjoyed this game the most by far, and I personally thought the slower combat made the game more chill. The world design still caught me by surprise even after hearing people praise it. I've also never received more help from a community than Dark Souls. Overall, it was an unforgettable experience, and probably my favorite game now.

It was a fun run, and I'm looking forward to playing Dark Souls 2.

The time I had a nightmare that Dark Souls IV came out and it was the worst thing ever...

    Posted: 20 Jun 2021 02:15 PM PDT

I keep remembering this dream, because it's super weird, and I just wanted to share it somewhere. I had this dream that Dark Souls IV was coming out, so I bought it at launch and I played it, but it was....weird.

It was another experimental game like DS2, though this one went completely off the wall. Its UI looked far more like DeS' UI than the other Souls games. I remember the game starting with a linear action setpiece where someone escorts you out of the sewers while a dragon is attacking the city. Co-op no longer had a system of invaders and helpers, but people would just join your

I was using a Magic build, and I unlocked the ability to craft items. You could find items lying around, and combine them together to make new ones, like combining a spear and another item to get 30 arrows. The thing is, it was tied to a spell, not a dedicated system, meaning you literally couldn't craft items if you weren't using a Magic-based class. .

One part had me in a place that looked like Hyrule Castle, of all things, with a completely white sky. There was a winged, legless statue of a Titanite Demon hanging above an archway, and when I entered the room, I triggered a tripwire and it zoomed straight at me and I died. I ended up finding another way by finding hidden rooms and a ladder to walk above the arches, so you didn't trip any wires.

I walked out of the castle and into a courtyard, but it was REALLY poorly made. There were stray vertices and horrible modeling everywhere, the textures weren't fully implemented, and I kept getting stuck on places, and sometimes fell through the floor. I remember the original version of Oseiros, Angel of Dragons, being a boss at that point.

I then was at a place that looked like Anor Londo's castle. Ornstein and Smough were turned into regular enemies, though Ornstein was already super-sized had a gold design, and Smough was painted silver. I remember walking into a room with like one on each corner, and they all rushed at me while I was trying to run up some stairs. I remember dying a whole lot, and when I eventually got past it, the stairs just led me down to another part of the room I was at, meaning the whole trek was pointless. I then fought the boss, which looked like a giant angel woman in a white dress, with the animations of a Crystal Sage.

4-5 hours after the game started, I finally got to the hub world, which was just this run-down medieval town. I remember everyone in town hating me. When I left, I went to a graveyard where Werewolves attacked me, then the game just straight up turned into Bloodborne for a few hours. I remember accidently hitting the NPC that lets me upgrade my equipment, which was in the middle of the sewers, and then he would never let me use his services again.

I remember getting to what seemed like the end. I had to talk to a certain NPC, and he just said to me "I don't offer my services to women." and nothing happened. So I looked it up, and I found out that the game would literally not let you continue if you picked a female character. Naturally, this pissed me off, and I just looked up the rest of the game through some Youtuber I like playing it. The ending was this weird string of events, where it was trying to be deep and meaningful and make you think, but it was just a load of nothing. I distinctly remember yelling "WHAT THE HELL IS THAT EVEN SUPPOSED TO MEAN!?" at the end.

From Software then went bankrupt because of how bad DS4 was. ~ The End.

Do you guys ever have dreams like this?B

I loved DS3, will I enjoy DS Remastered?

    Posted: 20 Jun 2021 07:00 PM PDT

I just finished my first playthrough of DS3, and I absolutely loved it. Exploring the world, finding new monsters, upgrading and progressing my character, it was awesome. Now that I finished this my Dark Souls itch hasn't been fully scratched. I am thinking about getting Remastered but I have heard that the game can feel old and clunky. I understand it is an older game and I would not go into it expecting the same combat from DS3 but is the game overall on par? I really liked how DS3 just put you up against a boss and then straight into High Wall of Lothric, got me hooked on the game right away. I don't expect the graphics to blow me away but is the combat, world, boss design and mechanics, story, and overall experience as good or better than DS3?

I'm really bad at this game

    Posted: 20 Jun 2021 08:03 PM PDT

Hey so I picked up Dark Souls remastered there recently. I've never played and FROM games and thought it was about time.

I have 17 hours of playtime already. It feels much longer tbh. I love the game, the atmosphere, the tension, the world. Its a great game so far. The only problem is I am terrible.

I'm just really bad at this. I'm not joking I spent nearly 4 hours tonight just trying to beat the Gargoyles on the roof near the undead parish place. I still didn't beat them and went to bed. They're bastards.>! The flame breath man, it keeps getting me. Anytime I try and hit the 2nd one, the other flames me.!<

If I'm having this much trouble now, should I just quit? Or is it actually possible I can improve and beat the game even?

I used my lightning weapon stuff already. First I used one fighting the Dark Knight in undead Burg, which also took me hours. The 2nd I used by mistake instead of healing while figting the gargoyles (lol). The 3rd one I didn't kill the Gargoyles and died.

I think I may be hopeless lmao

    I did it!

    Posted: 20 Jun 2021 03:35 PM PDT

Ten years after it came out, I've finally done it. I've delved into the grim heart of humanity so many times I could do it in my sleep, and finally, my soul is dark. I've managed to finally get the "The Dark Soul" achievement [DSR.] After all this time, it's over. This has given me an insight into what Dark Souls is all about as well. We all know the common themes... contrast, light and dark, time, the inevitable doom of living, etc. However, now that I have The Dark Soul, I think Kaathe is closer to the truth. You might be manipulated by forces you can't imagine, but the core of Humanity is CHOICE. YOU can choose how it ends. YOU get to choose WHEN it ends. The linking of the fires is a Human CHOICE. And with that, I'm walking away. I will not repeat the cycle. My time has come. It's been great, everybody. And remember... Don't you go hollow. ;)

Reah of Thorolund survived until the end of the game. How?

    Posted: 20 Jun 2021 06:36 PM PDT

I'm on my third playthrough, finally going for the platinum, and something strange has happened. I've reached the Kiln of the First Flame with Reah still alive and sane, even though I bought all her miracles early on.

I'm on NG+ with a Faith/Dex character, so the first thing I did when I got to firelink was visit the Catacombs to meet Patches. I think I killed Pinwheel too but I'm not sure. I definitely killed Capra Demon after I met Patches in the Catacombs, but before meeting him in Tomb of Giants because I remembered I needed to kill Capra Demon first to start Reah's quest line.

After rescuing Reah I came back to Firelink and immediately killed Petrus, then bought all of Rhea's miracles and got the achievement. I then played on as normal, but only fighting the required bosses and Priscilla (got her tail!). When I reached Duke's Archives, I expected to be attacked by zombie Reah but she was nowhere to be found.

Just before going to face Gwyn, I decided to check the Undead Chapel and found Reah still there alive and well, praying. I double checked and there were no more miracles to buy, just a divine blessing and a talisman.

Has this ever happened to anyone before?

I also never spoke to the Crestfallen Warrior, so he's still hanging around despite Frampt stinking up the place, Logan is still in prison, and I took the Izalith shortcut so Solaire is probably still alive too. So almost all the good guys have survived until the end!

RIP Laurentius and Siegmeyer, I should have saved you too for the best ending ever.

    Fuck Lautrec.

As far as I know, this exists for all of the Soulslike games as well as Sekiro and Bloodborne. (just Google [Fromsoft Game] Cheat Sheet and they should be the first results.

    Not getting all the souls

    Posted: 20 Jun 2021 03:27 PM PDT

    Aloha all!

I've noticed that I don't collect all of the souls I free. For example, if I have 1,000 souls, and I kill an enemy that says I freed 100 souls, my counter will only increase to 1080, not the expected 1,100. What's up with that? I'm still new-ish to the game, working on my first playthru, level 29, so I spend pretty much all of my time undead as opposed to human. Is that related? Or is something else at work?

    Mahalo!
