Got something you folks might appreciate

    Posted: 09 Jun 2021 06:06 PM PDT

So, today was probably one of the worst days of my life to be honest. I'm a fairly inexperienced CNC machinist, and most of what I know I've taught myself on the job. I just started full-time at the job I've been part-time at teaching myself CNC programming, and while I'm really good at the job, even my boss has said so, I screwed everything up today up on my first day of full-time employment. And then I saw my ex-girlfriend for the first time since we broke up, the one who I made so many mistakes with, I wronged her so badly, and I wish I could take it all back. But at the end of the day, we all make mistakes, and we gotta move on, and learn from that. Failure is learning moments.

And guess what game has taught me that? Lol yup. I'm pretty good now at dark souls and Froms other games, but when I started I sucked. Bad. I still suck bad at times (especially Ludwig in BB). But you gotta accept the losses and learn from them. That's how you get better. And I realized just the other day that this community might appreciate my favorite song possibly. Even if you cant get with the sound, at least the message I know you guys can appreciate. Not great with putting in links, but I'll try lol. The song is Get It Right Next Time by Gerry Rafferty.

[Spoilers] Bells of Awakening....I was today years old when it hit me.

    Posted: 08 Jun 2021 09:55 PM PDT

Just, first off, don't attack me. I'm not a genius. Hell, I'm not even smart.

I finally figured out why they are called Bells of Awakening. They are rung to AWAKEN The King seeker (Frampt) to guide the Chosen Undead to the Kiln, to relight the Flame.

It was so simple...i can't understand why I didn't realize it sooner. IQ of 20 I guess

A testament to the memorability of Dark Souls

    Posted: 09 Jun 2021 06:16 PM PDT

My first ever Dark Souls playthrough was around a year ago, right when quarantine started. I only completed a single playthrough.

I started a new character a few days ago to revisit the game and finish the trophy list, and it all came flooding back. Despite only playing the game once, the layout of the locations (excluding Blighttown lol) all returned from memory as I explored. The hidden enemies, the pressure plate traps, the items in chests, I was able to recall a surprising amount of information.

My point is that this game sticks with you, even if you haven't poured hundreds of hours into it. I can understand why this game sparked a whole genre of its own.

I feel like I cheated the Bell Gargoyles...

    Posted: 09 Jun 2021 07:10 AM PDT

    Hi guys.

I am playing this game for the first time and hit a huge wall with the gargs. As soon as the 2nd showed up I was just dead.

What I ended up doing on my like 15th attempts was grab the gold pine resin in the burg and put it on my Balder Sidesword.

With this zappy blade I proceeded to wreck the duo with relative ease. Is this cheesing the fight? I feel kind of bad... I didn't know it would nerf them so much :(

What do you guys think? Did I even deserve the win?

My first Dark Souls Playthrough without really looking up anything about how to play the game

    Posted: 09 Jun 2021 12:16 PM PDT

Funny things I ended up doing

-the idea of gathering souls and leveling up was totally lost on me for a while, so I would just stand around fighting skeletons to 'git gud'

-I thought the game was so hard that if I took basically any damage, I would have to re-start the area because having to use any estus outside of boss fights made me nervous

-no idea how weapon scaling or stats worked until after Sen's Fortress (just dumped everything into VIT and STR). I noticed the letters were different for Man-Serpent greatsword and I finally realized why the longsword wasn't doing it anymore...

-didn't know I was 'fat-rolling' through the entire game, just walking around with too much gear, shield up pretty much the whole time, absolutely trembling in fear. I was even fat rolling to dodge Gwyn's attacks in the final fight, fat-rolling to dodge Quelaag's sword attack, etc...

-I ended up so over-levelled that by the time I got to Ornstein & Smough, they did not give me all that much trouble at all, and basically hacked through every other boss with great ease.

-I don't think I completed a single quest line other than getting sweet revenge on Lautrec. I would take orange soapstone messages a little too seriously around certain NPCs (e.g "Liar Ahead") so I would kill whoever it was...

Now that I've cleared all three, I'm looking forward to revisiting DS1 with a little less fear!

Are the lords just killed repeatedly through consecutive links or do future unkindled ones go through trials that dont require the lord vessel?

    Posted: 09 Jun 2021 09:15 AM PDT

I know theres no lord vessel in future games, but they have explainations as to why, as its different scenarios from the usual fire linking in those games.

Found a bag with 60 twin humanities

    Posted: 10 Jun 2021 01:17 AM PDT

I'm new to darksouls and was invaded by the same player twice and found an orange bag with 60 twin humanities. Can players drop items in your world? I haven't invaded or played online much.

Killed Griggs twice in the same playthrough.

    Posted: 09 Jun 2021 06:56 PM PDT

Just curious if this happened to anyone else. On one playthrough awhile back I saved Griggs, went to Firelink, bought all his rings and spells then killed him for the SDC Ring. I run back though the Undead Burg later on and I happened to peak in the room you save him from and he's still standing there. You can't talk to him but I killed him again and got a second SDC Ring. It doesn't really benefit you much to have a second ring but I thought it was a neat bug. Anyone else experience this or something similar?

What happens if you kill Gwynevere after killing Gwyndolin?

    Posted: 09 Jun 2021 03:50 PM PDT

I want to kill both of them but I'm curious how Gwynevere's death plays out if Gwyndolin isn't around.

We call them "Souls-likes" but Dark Souls is more of a 3D Metroidvania.

    Posted: 10 Jun 2021 02:13 AM PDT

It's an interconnected, labyrinth of a game world that encourages exploration, has fake and destructible walls hiding secrets, long elevators, and challenging gameplay. It captures the essence of a Metriodvania better than either the Metroid Prime series or the 3D Castlevanias on PS2. Nothing against those games, but I feel like Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Sekiro did a better job translating the gameplay style to 3D while making changes where it made sense. I still think the idea of From Soft making a Castlevania game would be a match made in heaven.

Should I upgrade my estus flask to +3 or use it to get 20 estus at FireLink?

    Posted: 09 Jun 2021 10:14 PM PDT

So I'm about to enter the Painted World. I know +3 estus is probably the better option, but having +20 seems like it would be more practical. Need some advice!

Anyway to recover dragon scale from undead dragon?

    Posted: 09 Jun 2021 08:01 PM PDT

I accidentally inputted the attack that requires hitting light attack and forward at the same time as my last attack killing the dragon. I used the falchion so this caused my character to roll backward. This caused me to fall to my death as the dragon was dying, so does that mean the dragon scale that it drops is just gone or is there a way to recover it?

    New sub called r/DarkSoulsInvations

    Posted: 09 Jun 2021 07:24 PM PDT

Hi there, this is a new that that I've created myself just earlier today out of sheer boredom. I was unable to find a sub already dedicated to this besides just posting these things to the different souls games subreddits, so I thought I'd make a sub dedicated to the many weird, funny, annoying and other different types of invasions that you have experienced. If you care to take a look and help it grow I thank you greatly!

I look forward to meeting you fellow skeletons! (if a subreddit like this already exists please notify me as I did not seem to find one before making this sub)

    Is my Siegmeyer questline ruined?

    Posted: 10 Jun 2021 01:15 AM PDT

Alright. So. The Chaos Eaters. I got to that point in his questline and I beat them with him. He survived, said he'd take a nap and then leave. I turn around, access my inventory, and turn back around to see another chaos eater has come out of nowhere and killed him! I'm guessing that means he's perma-dead now, but if that's the case, that's utter BS!!!!! I had already beaten them all, spoken with him, done everything right and then get screwed at the very end like that?!?!?! I'm really grasping at straws here, but I'm hoping the questline isn't dead like this...
