How Sihn got his poison and its relation to the other dragons of the series.

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 07:54 AM PDT

I was doing some lore reading, and found some very interesting reads on how the environments of areas effect dragons, the blog I read stated:

"Dragons appear to absorb nutrition directly from the environment and, consequently, take on environmental aspects. The Gaping Dragon, for example, became a bloated, insatiable maw after eating a bunch of people that ate a bunch of people."

I start thinking wow, that makes sense and is super interesting, Kalameet was located near the abyss in Oolacile which is why he is considered an abyssal creature by the game, and Midir (also considered abyssal) absorbs the dark he has been keeping watch over.

Then I was stumped for a second, how did Sihn get his poison? Shulva ended up the way it is because of him being stabbed and expelling it from his body not him absorbing it from Shulva.

So I kept reading a bit further and he made a point I've never heard of, but made a lot of sense:

"Pyromancy flames are alive. They seem to start as a kind of chaos seed embedded in the hand that sprouts into a chaos bug, forming a symbiotic relationship with the host. There are several sources of information on this, so I won't go too in depth, but it's a lesser-known lore point. The bug - the life soul - eats light souls and excretes poison. They feed on light souls because there are no longer any original life souls to feed on. This is why they're going extinct, both metaphorically and literally.

This poison is highly flammable, so the bug has also evolved the ability to, uh, light its own farts (waste) on fire. The cloud spells (poison, toxic, acid,) spew out bug poop that has accumulated in the host's system, while the internalized pyromancies (power within, flash sweat,) seem to involve heating or burning this accumulation while it's still inside the host."

Awesome and pretty interesting, I want to read up more on that to clarify some things but the concept feels solid. How does that answer my question though?

    "Sihn's flame went out.

We don't know why, or when, or how, we do know that if someone can't expel waste they slowly become septic, get sicker and sicker until they die.

Except dragons can't die (since they are immortal they can not die from things like sickness or disease, but can be slain), but only enter a kind of dormant state (hence "slumbering dragon").

Dragon's breath is, following the logic of the game concerning pyromancy, how a dragon would disposes of waste or impurities collected from the environment. In other words: Sihn was slumbering because he was incredibly sick because he couldn't poop. In puncturing the dragon's lung with his spear, Yorgh may have saved Sihn's 'life,' as it probably provided the dragon with the ventilation needed to discharge the waste, albeit as clouds of corrosive poison so thick and hot that they do about the same thing as fire to anything living."

Okay well then basically toxicity built up in Sihn because he was unable to expel waste which is where his poisonous flames and built up explosion in Shulva came from. That is really neat.

That clears up that, but then applying it to other dragons we see it still makes sense, Kalameet has his black abyssal flames that he spews from his mouth and Midir has his dark lazer beam which is probably as intense as it is from being around the dark for so long on top of which in stage two when he absorbs more of the dark from the abyss it becomes even more intense to the point where letting it out exhausts him for a few seconds. Gaping dragon doesn't breathe fire probably due to the fact that they are disfigured, but we do see it vomit out its waste. For the rest since they did not absorb any kind of impurities from their environment their waste would come out normally as fire.

Basically they expel their waste normally through breathing fire and any other additional effects to their fire/waste are caused by impurities they have absorbed from their environment or are caused by their lack of being able to dispose of their waste.

When stuff like this in souls lines up and clicks and just makes sense it always gets me even more interested in how its world works. What do you guys think?

I still can't understand how From managed to screw Mages so badly after DS2...

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 11:41 AM PDT

DS2 is basically a top tier game if you want to be a magic user, with all the spells, catalysts, so many items to replenish spell casts, tons of equipment that helps you further (a crown that looks cool AND replenishes some casts over time? Sign me up.), spell stacking for a lot more casts, etc...

Then, with Dark Souls 3, Dexterity becomes forced if you want spells to not be casted at snail speed, the MP bar and Ashen Estus only screws you, spell stacking is now worthless, if you want more casts then you literally gotta sacrifice healing for that, due to DS3 barely having much equipment with special effects, you don't have nearly as many options, the literal main spell vendor is super hidden and actually leaves if you don't fulfill certain requirements in time... Yeah, basically, you gotta do a bunch more Melee even with a mage build, while in DS2, besides the DLCs, you would be pretty fine with only your staff, your spells, and a good weapon in hand for some instances where you can't just cast through.

    Just, why?

The Drop Rates Are Twisting My Soul

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 06:01 AM PDT

I'm in Brume Tower (specifically the Foyer bonfire) and I'm trying to kill this Fume Sorcerers to get the torso piece. I've gotten the boots, the gloves, the headgear, even their daggers... but it just won't drop the chest gear...

I'm wearing the Symbol of Avarice and have the GCS+2 ring on with the Watchdragon Parma in off-hand. I am also using Rusted coins every 5 minutes or so.

My question is: I don't know if some of the pieces I have are dropping the chances of the gear pieces, so what should I wear to increase my drop rates? I know that some pieces are incompatible and having too much on drops the chances so is what I'm wearing fine or do I need to get rid of something?

    Multiplayer on Xbox One SOTS

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 12:50 PM PDT

Anyone playing SOTS on Xbox One?

Played 6 months of DS1 on Switch ans DS3 on Xbox and I must say the summon activity is not the same

In lost Bastille right now, I managed to be summoned for all bosses up to here but I had to be real patient.

And not that I wanted but I did not see a lot of player summon sign along the way

Settings set to global or interzone on whatever.

    Is it THAT dead?

EDIT : got summoned after 20 mins for the boss in Lost Bastille... summoner died by the time I hit one of the Sentinel once

    Defeating King Vendrick

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 08:56 AM PDT

I've just defeated Velstadt and I want to fight King Vendrick to trigger the ending. But I'm completely lost. I know I need to have 5 giant souls to lower his stats but I don't know how to do that. Would anyone please explain in detail like "where these souls are and how I get them" or "in which order I should do it"? Many thanks in advance!
