    Fitness challenge run gone wrong

    Posted: 30 May 2021 02:38 PM PDT

So I saw a comment from a guy saying he'd played all of DS3, doing push ups after every death and that he got buff from it. I've played ds1 many times now so decided I'd do a level 1 run so I would die more often and now I've got past the gargoyles without having to do a single push up. it's as if the faint motivation not to exercise is making me better at the game lmao.

Just beat Dark Souls - What a game!

    Posted: 30 May 2021 01:16 PM PDT

Coming into dark souls, I had only played the newer soulsborne games (Sekiro, Bloodborne and Demon Souls Remake) so I was kind of expecting it to be an underwhelming experience in comparison (seeing how older the game was) BUT I was thoroughly surprised. The bosses were a bit more gimmicky that I would have wanted them but every single one of them were unique and memorable.

The most memorable areas for me were Blight Town and Anor Lando (FRICK THE ARCHERS). Both of them were hellish to get through but it felt like I had achieved some kind of grander than life achievement when I got past them (It took me one try to take down Ornstein and Smough btw. never gonna stop bragging about that) - speaking of bosses, I think the coolest in the game were Siff, Artorias and Gwyn - I was genuinely happy when fighting them and sad when the fights ended.

I did have a tough time learning the game tho - playing the game as a DEX build was pretty rough. I spent first few areas of the game running around with a small knife, but it got easier once I upgraded by getting the Uchigatana (Yes I killed the merchant. To be fair they did tell me to jump off a cliff and die) - another thing that made the game challenging to me was that I was just coming off of bloodborne, so I was more used to a fast paced/fluid battle system. Dark Souls Remastered is a bit stiff in comparison.

In terms of story, I could only pick up and bits and pieces of the lore. I did read a lot of the key items but I was more focused on just playing the game. The ending was left very ambiguous so I'm really excited to go watch some lore videos later to get a grasp of the full story!

Highly recommend this game to anyone that loves a challenge!

Sen's Fortress made me feel things and I think I love it

    Posted: 31 May 2021 04:45 AM PDT

    Hey everyone,

So Sen's Fortress. There was something about this area that felt so much different than other previous zones. My mistakes felt more meaningful because of how far you had to travel before the bonfire. There was just so many moments where the path forward required a big risk and I found myself standing there completely uncertain if I even want to try. Even finding the bonfire was a rush of emotions because I felt I was plunging to certain death after running off that rooftop, only to land on the only bonfire.

Sen's felt like the first area where I had memorable moments quite literally the entire time I was inside. The first time I got yoinked off the path into the muddy terrain where the titanite demons were waiting almost gave me a heart attack. Then I had to navigate the ramps with boulders, dodge pendulum blades, make risky jumps, barely notice traps, FIGHT THE DAMN MIMIC, dodge massive fire bombs, and finally fight iron Golem.

I'm not going to lie, since I play hollow and don't use summons, this fight gave me some trouble. I tumbled off a few times both from forgetting my position or simply trying to block and getting yeeted to Narnia. Then I was trying to dodge his attacks instead of running between his legs which took me a few attempts to get perfect. Eventually I beat him without taking a single point of damage.

What a rush this area was. It felt like I was legitmately pushing through a fortress that wouldn't get any easier if I died. The risks would still be just as dangerous and that build up would be even more insane.

Now your boi is heading off to Anor Londo after I finish clearing out the titanite demons in the mud. Wish me luck!

    Sens Fortress

    Posted: 30 May 2021 08:57 PM PDT

I kindled Andre's bonfire before the gargoyles figuring it might help. With Solaire and another friendly phantom I defeated them without using a flask, and I figured the kindling was wasted.

Turns out with was an investment. Sens keeps kicking my teeth in but the 10 flasks makes sure I last long enough so it gets every tooth.

    Love this game.

The coolest twink I've ever met.

    Posted: 30 May 2021 07:59 AM PDT

So I was doing a fist weapon only run (I'm not that much of a masochist to do a bare fist run yet) and I had just reached the undead church. As I was trying to get the Fire Keeper Soul and fighting the enemy guarding it, I got invaded by a player with the name "Twinkie".

Basic twink that you would find, crown of dusk, dark bead, etc. But as I fought the enemy, he didn't decide to one shot me, but rather to cheer me on in the battle. After I killed the enemy, I was trying to let him kill me but he wanted to have a fist fight instead. I ended up killing him, and went on the lose to Gargoyles.

To the guy who invaded the player named "Fist Only" in the Undead Church, thanks for not dark beading me.

    Josephi Clown and His Tales

    Posted: 30 May 2021 10:53 PM PDT

Hi everyone, hope you're doing well. Back about a month ago I started a play through of Dark Souls, inspired by watching a friend of mine play through some of it. I'd never beaten the game up until this point (Farthest I've ever gotten was just after O&S) so was looking forwards to putting effort into completing the game for the first time. When I opened up my game, I found exactly 1 character file from many years ago, named "Josephi Clown." I have no idea why I named them this, but decided my new character would be named in their honor.

I updated my friend on my progress as I went through Lordran and when I reached Sen's Fortress, he jokingly called it "The Temple of Snakemen." I found this rather funny, and used an online comic book cover generator to make a quick (albeit very anachronistic) cover for a fictional series staring Josephi Clown, since I thought the title reminded me of old pulp comic books from the 50s and 60s. After conquering Sen's Fortress, I made another cover for Anor Londo, and continued to make covers for each section of the game and major boss, using a same, or similar template. I beat the game today, making the last cover just a few hours ago.

I experimented at the beginning but found a nice template, and got better at selecting pictures for the covers. As I went on, I started making alternative covers for certain sections when I found more artistic shots of my character/a moment to pair with the more action oriented pictures. Those are labeled with ALT in the album and should be thought of like 'collector's edition' covers. All the images on the covers are either directly from the game or very lightly edited.

Later on, I started going into boss fights HUD-less to get the most interesting shots, and I think I was somewhat successful! It was a fun project I wanted to share. I tried to go for a really exaggerated, alliterative feel for the covers that you see in older comic books.

I wore the mask of the mother for most of the playthrough and it became iconographic for Josephi so I decided to make it the comic book logo.

I hope you too can enjoy Josephi Clown and His Tales. :)

How hard would it be to build a character that can wield all weapons, and what should I know before trying to make one?

    Posted: 30 May 2021 02:17 PM PDT

I have a video idea that requires the ability to use all weapons, both 1 handed and 2 handed. Going through the wiki shows I need 58 Strength, 24 Dexterity, 32 Intelligence, and 30 Faith to attempt this.

I know it is technically possible due to the level cap, but how hard would it be? I'm aware it won't be an easy journey, but I'm prepared to get the Knight's Honor achievement too so I don't feel too overwhelmed by the thought.

What info should I know before starting this self-made challenge? Class choice, how much should I ignore Vitality and Endurance, and what other important things do I need to be told by more experienced Souls players?

First Playthrough of Dark Souls Death Count

    Posted: 30 May 2021 06:00 PM PDT

Just beat Dark Souls for the first time. Man I respect the hell out of this game. Had a lot of good moments and a whole lot of deaths. I did not summon for any bosses. But I grinded so much. I kept track of all my boss deaths. What boss did you die to most?

    Asylum Demon - 0 deaths

    Bridge Demon - 2 deaths

Gargoyles - 2 deaths (This was the boss I realized how good gold pine resin was)

    Moonlight butterfly - 1 death

    Capra demon - 3 deaths

    Gaping dragon - 2 deaths

Quelag - 0 deaths (pretty sure I got lucky RNG)

    Iron Golem - 1 death

Asylum Demon again - 7 deaths (in hind sight I was too low level and died 5 times initially, then came back much later and beat him 2nd try)

Sif - 2 deaths (fav boss in the game)

Ornstien & Smough - 9 deaths (boss I died to the most)

Pinwheel - 0 deaths (so damn easy)

    Ceaseless Discharge - 0 deaths

Centipede Demon - 2 deaths (1 to boss and one to lava)

    Four kings - 4 deaths

Priscilla - 1 Death (fav area in game)

Fire Asylum Demon - 2 deaths

Seath the Scaleless - 0 deaths (Prolly died 5 times just going through crystal caves to get to him though)

Gravelord Nito - 3 deaths (FUCK the Tomb of the Giants. This place got me more triggered than anything In the game hahaha)

Bed of chaos - 5 deaths (worst boss in game EASILY)

Gwyn - 2 deaths (once I got parry timing down the boss was a push over)

    Sanctuary Guardian - 0 deaths

Artorias - 2 deaths (Amazing boss, not sure how I beat him in so few tries)

Kalameet - 6 deaths (use the handspring ring and don't lock on to him!!)

Manus - 5 deaths (scraped by on 6th try with like 5 hp left)

    Bonus:

Havel - 6 deaths (fought him at very low soul level)

First Titinite Demon - 6 deaths

    Hydra - 3 deaths

Anor Londo archers - 7 deaths (Fuck these dudes!)

I was just terrible at dodging the attacks (i still am) and my damage was abysmal. Thankfully i made a new character ( pyromancer) AND DESTROYED THAT COWARDLY ASSHOLE! My second character was much more enjoyable than my first and i just finished this amazing game yesterday.

Replaying DS1, interesting/fun builds to try?

    Posted: 31 May 2021 01:16 AM PDT

I'm planning to replay DS1, I beat it two times using the same build (skipped the dlc first run so went back for NG+ and Manus made my life hell but still got em). My main build was pretty vanilla, a strength +10 halbred and a light greatshield with light armor so I didn't fatroll.

Now I wanna replay the game but not sure which build to go for, I know builds can be extremely creative and unique and so I could use some suggestions on interesting things to try out.

    Thanks!

What’s your favorite magic type in DS1?

    Posted: 30 May 2021 11:39 PM PDT

Just curious. I don't really know what my favorite is, I kinda like all of them equally. Pyromancy you can use with any build since it doesn't scale with stats (until it's advanced), Sorceries are really fun when you're late game and using them to their maximum potential, and miracles can be really fun and helpful as a side damage/defense utility.

I did my first fitness playthrough of Dark Souls, it was fun AF!

    Posted: 30 May 2021 05:10 PM PDT

A week ago, I posted this on this subreddit : https://www.reddit.com/r/darksouls/comments/n2ppxc/a_question_for_the_community_for_someone_who/

It was, for all purposes, a question about which game of the Soul franchise I should play if I did a 10 pushups challenge on stream for a first timer. To my surprised, Dark Souls 1 actually came on top.

So, I finally did a Dark Souls 10 pushups challenge on Twitch and the reception for it has been insane! Lot of people came to meme and all, so, yeah, thanks for the recommendation y'all!

Now, I do feel like it was a bit too easy, so I'm thinking about doing polls on what I should do, (pull ups, incline push-ups, etc) but other than that, again, it's been a very fun ride. Some of the best moments I ever had on Twitch tbh. Just wanted to thanks this subreddit, that's all.
