I always quit Dark Souls because I'm a giant chicken (to put it mildly)

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 06:44 AM PST

I must have started and dropped more than 8 playthroughs throughout the years, and I always drop them either in the section before blighttown or during blighttown.

I stop most of them because... I HATE THE GIANT RAT! I hate it! It activates some part of my monkey brain that treats it as if it's gonna jump out of the monitor and start roaming inside my bedroom, and I cannot rationally dismiss it.

When I found out that I can start my playthrough with the key I was full of joy because I will finally not have to see that disgusting thing on my monitor. And I finally reached Quelaag and killed her and all, but then Sen's fortress happened and I lose my motivation to keep going.

    But yeah, f that rat!

Beat Dark Souls Remastered for the 1st Time on Switch

    Posted: 14 Mar 2021 01:11 AM PST

Decided to buy and play dark souls remastered because I started watching Outside Xtra's Ellen Rose conquer it with the guidance of Luke Westaway. At first I wanted to play along with her but my confidence and anticipation grew and I had to keep playing.

With the help of FightinCowboy's walkthrough guide I picked up (I think) every item and beat some of the bosses on the first try (Capra Demon, Gaping Dragon, Ornstein and Smough (Smough first), Nito, and all the dlc bosses to name a few.)

I am excited to get even better and would love to dig into Min/maxing for PvP but I don't have a good enough internet connection. Now it's time to make some builds and have some fun wrecking bosses! (Still wish I could do PvP though)

    A friend went hollow today

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 03:59 PM PST

So I was trying to get my friend (who mainly plays fighting games) to play dark souls I, my absolute favourite game ever made, as I want more friends to talk about my experiences in these games with. However, he said to me 'I've heard that the story is so bland'. This CRUSHED ME. He went on to talk about how games like Persona 5 (no hate) have thought provoking stories. It baffles me how one could be so unaware of the fantastic and nuanced narrative and lore the dark souls games weave- these games are the epitome of thought provoking- am I simply fulfilling Oscar's dying wish or going on a quest to usurp the lord of the realm? Are the hollows the players who never finished the game and lost their purpose and humanity? Should I help these people or leave them to carve their own path to save them from hollowing? (with particular reference to Siegmeyer) and of course most importantly, why is he called 'Big hat Logan'?

Anyways, he's not getting it. Rest easy Dark Souls, you would've been wasted on him.

How do I convince my strict parents to let me get this game

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 03:25 PM PST

So recently I beat the ringed city from dark souls 3, which my parents allow me to play with blood off and now I'd like to get dark souls one but I'm not sure how to convince them, their main problem with it is chaos witch que laag, and no they are not aware of gwynvere and I intend to keep it that way, do you have any advice?

How Dark Souls was Beaten in Under 20 Minutes (World Record History)

How Dark Souls was Beaten in Under 20 Minutes (World Record History)

Hey guys, my name is catalystz and I am a speedrun record holder in both DS and DSR. I have posted couple of my videos here before and they were well received, so here comes another, hopefully to your delight.

It covers the speedrun world record history of the Any% Force Quit category – category with the fastest completion of the game. Don't just expect a plain listing of world record times, instead, the video goes in-depth through the routing of the speedruns and its development over time as new strategies were discovered.

    Please enjoy!

    How big is the Zweihander?

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 11:25 PM PST

I'm interested in how big the zweihander so I can see how close the zweihander is compared to an actual historical zweihander. Assuming the character is about 6 feet, the blade not including the handle is about 5 feet or so.

How do I transition from Dark Souls 3 to Dark Souls 1?

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 06:31 PM PST

Dark Souls 3 was my first ever Dark Souls game, and I've been completely obsessed with it since I started playing it about a month or two. I was in the middle of doing a NG+ on it, but I'm away from home for a week, so I decided to get Dark Souls Remastered on my Switch to continue my addiction.

I'm probably about an hour into it - just got to the Taurus Demon - but I'm finding I'm struggling with it a bit. The movement seems a bit slower and the controls aren't nearly as fluid and responsive, which is really throwing me off. I haven't been able to dodge roll any of the Taurus Demon's attacks, whereas in Dark Souls 3 I'm pretty confident I'd be able to run circles around him. It's like the timing is completely different between the two games. I'm not sure if the game is supposed to be like that and the Souls gameplay just got more polished by the time Dark Souls 3 came out, or if the Switch version isn't super well optimized. Is there a way to acclimate my muscle memory to the new (old) game feel?

What should I level up next?

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 09:08 PM PST

It's my third playthrough and I'm playing a sorcerer build. I have 10vit/19end/19att/10stg/11dex/45int. Currently using catalyst/long sword/heater shield. Just wondering out of these options what seems the most fun: increasing dex for faster cast times and maybe a katana, inc strength and use MLGS, inc att (maybe add pyromancy?), Or add some points to health. Thoughts? I'm leaning towards MLGS or Att, but dex or vit seem most useful.

    Music

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 06:17 PM PST

What music makes you think of dark souls? What music do you listen to while playing? Are there any good playlists or recommendations? Not looking for metal, I repeat I am not looking for metal, that's just too obvious.

Does the fog in Dark Souls have meaning in terms of lore? Or is it just a mechanic that came from Demon’s Souls?

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 05:58 PM PST

The fog in Demon's Souls actually had meaning since represents a huge part of its story, looking into Dark Souls I'm not convinced the "fog" is something more than a simple game mechanic

    Giantdad/Ceaseless Discharge help.

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 10:05 PM PST

So I'm doing a Giantdad build with the character named Gambino (for extra meme) and im having a hard fucking time. I just opened Sens fortresses and I'm also trying to beat Discharge and holy shit I am struggling. My Zwei is +5 Fire and I rely want to rush to get the Chaos ember.

Not sure if my skill is shit or what, but I'm thinking of moving away from the build a bit and just dump everything into strength until its at soft cap. Or at the very least so I can use it in one hand. What the hell can I do at this point?

Am I the only one that finds Caster runs to get boring halfway through?

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 07:32 PM PST

I feel like ranged combat takes away from the souls experience. Its just constant lock on and spell cast spam the entire game. The early game is bland since you basically only have different versions of the same spell until you can unlock better, more unique spells later on. Tight areas such as Archives and Catacombs become a headache. Bosses get killed in 3-5 hits due to crazy damage (cough cough* Crystal Soul spear). There is no nerve racking and exciting combat. Its like im cheating through the game. I don't even feel like finishing the playthrough. I copped Moonlight greatsword and it was so refreshing getting to finally stab something. My advice to anyone that enjoys souls for the combat, its worth a try but caster probably isnt the build for you.

BTW Im not complaining, I get that its the nature of the build type. I just wanted to share my experience.

    Gwyn

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 03:16 PM PST

What is everyones thoughts about Gwyn? When you pass the knights in the kiln and your eyes see gwyn, and his theme song plays.Do you feel symphaty that the once glorious Ruler has hollowed and charges at you so pathetically or do you feel hatred for he brought the demise upon all that we love and knew?

New to Dark Souls and I have some questions.

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 08:08 PM PST

I was going to start with Dark Souls 1 but I wasn't sure if I should play the original or the remaster. Is there a difference between the two, and is one better then the other? Also, should I even start with the first game? I know this sub is for the first game but thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.

    Stranger things.

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 07:46 PM PST

No, is not the series, something strange happend.

On my second run, i got the firekeeper soul from the church and was my way to Firelink Shrine to reforce my Estus but the firekeeper died.

It was strange but i did ignore it.

And then was in my way in church to kill that guy who has the Ring of Favor and Protection but he's not there neither.

What the hell is happening here?!

    Missed Siegmeyer

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 07:39 PM PST

So I'm near finished but I missed Seigmeyer. He's still sitting in Sens Fortress. I'd like the slab he gives at the end.

He won't leave Sens, never appeared in Anor Londo.

I've beat Bed of Chaos. Kill of the First Flame and Artorias of the Abyss are all I have left.

Really don't want to try to farm for a slab....

Anyone know if I missed him or if I can kick off the quest this late?

    Environment Appreciation

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 03:17 PM PST

I'm a veteran to the DS franchise, I love them all. I started DS in 2014, moved on to DS2, BB, then DS3. I've been working my way backwards platting them and am back at DS. I give myself cool-down time between each plat to avoid Souls fatigue (yes, there IS too much of a good thing). At any rate, I've haven't played DS in about six to seven years, and am I completely in love with the scenery and aesthetics of the environment. Don't get me wrong, I adore all the Soulsborne games, but the scenery of DSR looks like a oil painting. In DS2, I feel like the devs kinda cheesed out and used the biggest texture paintbrush they could. BB and DS3 are both beautiful, but they're TOO clean, too defined; surfaces are FLAT, lines are STRAIGHT. With DSR, though, I notice imperfections / inconsistencies / differentiation everywhere. It adds to the aged / ancient / weathered / eroded vibe.

I love it. I love it so much.

    Finally got all achievements!

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 10:45 PM PST

Came back to this game needing something challenging yet satisfying to unwind with and fell back in love with the series. I'm still... not exactly great at PvP, but having a great time while dying.

    I'm stuck [possible early spoilers]

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 12:05 PM PST

I have defeated the Bell Gargoyles and rung the first bell. I know I need to go to Blighttown next but I haven't found a key that will open the door in New Londo Ruins (the one just after you ride the elevator down). Where can I find a key for this door?
