Platinum’d DS1 Today, I can finally rest by the fire.

This is my third souls game that I've platinum'd, with DS3 and Blood borne being my first and second. I thought I'd just share some tips I encountered along the way:

    1. Use all your humanity, to unlock the izalith shortcut, it saves you hours.
    2. Finish the character quest-lines on your first play-through.
    3. Farming covenants is easier than going online.
    4. And finally, there is NO ring trophy. You don't need to collect all the rings, learned that the hard way.

Anyways I hope everyone has a good day, week, and year.

    Praise the sun!

    I'm so proud!

    Posted: 03 Feb 2021 03:27 PM PST

My fiancee has watched me play DSR twice, and just started playing herself. She is a younger sibling, so much more accustomed to spectating, and hasn't played a lot of video games but decided to try out her own character. She's made it past the Gargoyles and today she beat the Capra Demon. I'm super proud of her and just wanted to share that!

EDIT: I am not engaged to my younger sister. I see how the wording made that unclear. Thank you to all the fine folk pointing that out to me!

    Thoughts on the game

    Posted: 03 Feb 2021 11:11 PM PST

So I just got onto NG+2 with a dex/int build and I just wanna talk about my experience with this lovely game. For me, this is the first of From Software's unforgiving titles and I can't wait to get Ds2 and beyond.

My first playthrough I decided to do blind. I did have some prior knowledge though (scaling, poise) but I did not know the layout of any area nor any boss fight except the first few. That was one of the worst and best choices I think I've ever made. I probably died about 5 times against the taurus demon and only killed him because I used the gold pine resin. The bell gargoyles (I like to call them knockoff o&s) killed me more times than I can remember. I only beat them because I summoned 1 random guy and solaire to help. Capra was not as bad, though I did die a lot, and gaping was fine as well.

The whole of blightown was pretty good, except the toxic shooters and swamp, and I also defeated quelaag after a few deaths. I went through a bit of demon ruins until I saw the bunch of taurus demons and decided to do it later. I headed to Sens and got through the inner section once I figured out where everything was. I will say that the roof is one of my favorite areas in the entire game. I only realised there was a bonfire there because I saw a glimpse of it from the crestfallen merchant building. I saved logan and killed the giant that was throwing those boulders and summoned another dude to help me with iron golem. He was quite tough as I probably had a uchigatana or bss that couldn't quite stagger the golem easily.

Anor Londo was a game changer for me. After seeing the areas beforehand, they were nothing alike Anor Londo. I kept dying on the rafters because I always fell trying to kill the painted guardians up there. I reached the rotating building and was totally unaware of the dark moon tomb until I saw a soapstone that hinted the bonfire. The only area I hate from anor londo are those archers and the demons before it, they killed me so many times but I finally got it down after many attempts. I went through the inner cathedral and found the blacksmith too. I already knew that behind the giant fog gate was a boss that would totally compliment the already astounding anor londo. But I was not expecting a fight like that. Once I saw Ornstein jump down I was in disbelief once both O&S's hp bars showed up at the same time. It took a while but I heavily utilised the pillars to separate the two and finally killed super smough and won. That fight was probably one of my favorite bosses in my gaming experience and I'll never forget the thrill I had fighting them first time. Also, the amazing chest ahead was definitely worth it.

The four Lord areas were fine, except bed of chaos which I won't even talk about and four Kings which I had trouble even finding New Londo. Seath cursed me so I had to go buy a purging stone but I killed him the next time around. I finished logans quest around here and I destroyed everything with soul spears. I didn't even know the dlc existed and after I decided to do gwyn. He was hell and since I could parry him I automatically assumed you could backstab him too. After many attempts and around 40 titanite chunks I finally beat gwyn and linked the flame. I knew I missed a lot of content so for my ng+ run I just googled most areas and things I missed. I did the dlc and I also began using dark bead and two shot the asylum demon even in ng+2, and I also decided to kill super ornstein with solaire's aid. I went through painted world, Ash Lake and great hollow, and also went back to the stray demon and did all the npc invasions and quest lines.

Basically, I love dark souls 1. Your first playthrough is the most grueling and when you think you've faced the worst something new always comes. I was surprised by the amount of stuff I missed in my first playthrough, however my second playthrough was nice and fun as I didn't spent hours trying to kill a boss and I could speed through areas I once struggled with in my first run. I'm also way more rage tolerant than before I picked up dark souls in general. Though it is just a game, I have definitely learned many things to take from dark souls, the patience, learning from your mistakes and never going hollow even though you traveled 3 minutes to the boss to only die within 30 seconds, and how fun jolly cooperation is.

    "Flying" enemies are hilarious.

    Posted: 03 Feb 2021 05:33 PM PST

I've had a few airborne enemies that have moments where they forget they can fly. I've tricked a few blue drakes to land into the ravine below, and I've also pushed a few devils off the platforms of Anor Londo.

It's especially funny to see devils just give up when they get knocked over when they're first introduced by carrying me into the city.

Capra Demon is an artificially hard boss.

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 03:48 AM PST

After numerous attemps, I beat the effin boss.

Boss is super easy, incredibly easy even. You dodge, attack, step back to recover stamina, repeat.

But the dogs, the impossible small place, the goddamn trees obscuring the camera: all of those are there to make the boss an actual "challenge", and tho I'm liking the game, this is just baffling bad design.

Please help on how to spend souls for level up.

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 12:27 AM PST

I started playing Dark Souls Remastered and wanted your advice on something. I am at level 120 and doing a str build. Vit 45, Attunement 10, Endurance 60, Strength 40, Dexterity 18, Resistance 11, Intelligence 9 and Faith 9. I wanted to push my level even further to reach the cap for every weapon so I can use them. What level I should go till and how should I divide my points for the same. I have a lot of souls and I am not sure where to use the same. Thanks.

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 02:39 AM PST

I have been trying for ages to find similar content lore-wise to the soulsborne games, but always struck out. I know of Berserk, and watche dthe retro anime and throught it was incredible. Anyone got any advice on games/books/other media with similar vibes? (horrifying demons, abandoned kingdoms etc). I love the settings of the games so much i want to experience more.

The easiest boss in Dark Souls

    Posted: 03 Feb 2021 11:41 PM PST

Ok for real, this was just a dumb joke I made while texting a friend of mine and we got to talking about Souls bosses. He thought it was hilarious, so I thought I'd share it with you guys

"Pinwheel was so easy that immediately after beating him I turned off the game and went to play Spyro The Dragon in the hopes of fighting an easier boss to make it feel like Pinwheel actually posed some sort of a threat. This method proved useless. Spyro bosses are harder than Pinwheel."

Most Fun I've Had In Years

    Posted: 03 Feb 2021 10:25 PM PST

Hey guys I've been playing Dark Souls games for years and I've done a few challenge runs, but honestly it had grown somewhat boring to me.

Then I started streaming, and with streaming came desperation lol. Really though, I needed something I enjoyed and new but wanted it to be fresh and engaging. So I started up a stream for a no item/no wiki run without picking up the game for months or any preparation. Holy shit. I was getting stomped by the Taurus Demon even. Every turn I hit a different hurdle. It's challenging in so many new and interesting ways.

I posted this to let you guys know that if you're bored, try doing this. It's much more difficult than it sounds. Oh and that means no wiki between sessions either. I haven't enjoyed the game this much since launch.

Black glowing item dropped during O+S fight?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2021 08:18 PM PST

In the O+S arena, while fighting a black glowing item dropped on the stairs at the back of the arena. Couldn't get to in time before death but it hasn't spawned again. Anyone have any ideas about this? First time I've seen it.

Has anyone else noticed some weird lock on Shenanigans especially around the archives?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2021 09:22 PM PST

It feels like my lock on range has massively decreased going into the Dukes archives.

It's gotten to the point where if I'm more than 2 m away from an enemy I break my lock on.

This is very stressful for me as I am a sorcerer without a backup weapon can anyone advise on this please?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 02:57 AM PST

Hi guys, I'm going to create an INT build that uses an halberd class weapon (enchanted path), which one should I choose? Things to consider: - int scaling - range - weight - moveset - (?)

Feel free to suggest anything :)

Looking for an old parody video

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 02:34 AM PST

Apologies if this isn't the best place but I'm trying to find a particular video.

My memory is very sketchy on it so i'll try to include whatever I can remember.

It has 3 different warriors each trying to pass some obstacle, I can't remember the specifics but they all die in different manners.

One dies trying to pass a walkway with some type of swinging blades/guillotines.

    The next spins past it.

One tries to open something and a blade comes out and kills them.

    Also something with a mimic.

One of the characters was muscular the other was agility based.

    Thanks!

    Cowardly Snakes

    Posted: 03 Feb 2021 05:28 PM PST

Those two snake men that run past you after the jail bonfire in Dukes Archives. Fuck them. They aren't difficult but they're super annoying when they get past you and climb up the ladder. Then you gotta lure them down, but that only works if they take the bait, and if they don't you gotta keep climbing up until they follow you. Or you fight them on the ledge and it's too crowded to do anything. I hate how even if you hit them when they're running past they just keep going. Stand and fight you damn cowards! This is my first playthrough of the game and so far I've felt that it's challenging but fair but Duke's Archives has some things that kinda feel like bullshit. Not even stuff that makes the game more difficult, just things that are kind of annoying to deal with. Anyone else hate those god damn snakes as much as me?

    This is cinematic gaming...

    Posted: 03 Feb 2021 04:40 PM PST

Ooooo my god, I just beat dark souls! Let me explain, I started this masterpiece about a month ago and I was terrible. I didn't even know you could lock on enemies until around Blightown. It had taken me so many hours to get through undead burg. But as I was going through I kept getting better loot and weapons and started to get a better idea of where I was going. After Quelaag, I basically just ran around everywhere looking for somewhere to explore, and when I got to Darkeoot Basin I fought the black knight and got the BLACK KNIGHT HALBERD. This IMO is the best weapon in the game. It's stupidly strong and the recommendations to wield it weren't really a hassle. With this weapon I breezed through the rest of the dark souls(expect Sen's Fortress, that place sucks). Anor Londo was easy and I beat Ornstein and Smough on my second attempt. Catacombs was a cake walk, dukes archives was simple, and tomb of the giants I did in one go. The lord souls were a bit annoying, Seath cursed me, I died from a ledge poking out while falling into the abyss, bed of chaos made me backtrack a few times, but Nito was so easy. He just kept spamming his AOE blast and killed the skeletons. When I got to Gwyn though, I realized that dark souls was actually challenging. SIKE! I beat him in one try with my man Solaire. Sorry if this post is just me bragging, but I just need somewhere to talk about it. Next I'll be playing dark souls 2, I've heard it's pretty hard but I'll have to see. Anyways thanks for reading and Praise the Sun! [T]/
