    Lost Izalith......why :(

I was so happy to see my dude Solaire at demon ruins... It's my first playthrough and I was totally blindsided by having to basically mercy kill him. I'm sure there was probably something I could've done earlier in the story to save him but uhhhh yeah didn't happen. RIP sunbro

Introduced my boyfriend to Dark Souls

    Posted: 16 Feb 2021 07:28 PM PST

Well, correction... I introduced it to him about when we started dating (4 years strong!) and bought him the whole trilogy on Playstation about a month ago. He started playing it on Valentine's Day as a bonding activity, since he knew I was dying to see him play it.

Honestly, he's a natural! Took a bit to get used to the controls (he mostly played Skyrim before I suggested this), but now that he's got them down, he's killing it. Literally. His starting class was the thief, so he has the target shield, making it easy for him to parry the hollows in the Undead Burg. So proud of my man killing demons and undead!

The first part of Blighttown isn't that scary anymore when you realize that the enemies are all dumbasses

    Posted: 16 Feb 2021 08:01 PM PST

Just trying to lighten up the situation I'm in Blighttown's Ghouls and Barbarians seem really tough at first. Then I noticed they will always just blindly, recklessly try to beeline for me the fastest way they can, often causing themselves to accidentally walk and jump to their deaths.

I was just strolling through the wooden structures near the first bonfire, when every few seconds I would randomly see souls being collected from enemies off-screen. They seem to have even more trouble navigating the place than we do. I had one of the fire-breathing dogs charge at me on that shaky, narrow bridge right before it just ran off the side and fell to its death. And it keeps doing this even after it respawns. Even the cragspiders - that have wings - will occasionally just fall to their deaths trying to reach me.

Granted this doesn't make Blighttown any less painful to navigate, but it helps to know that you can exploit the really basic and rough AI of the enemies in case you're not in the mood to fight.

After slugging my way through Blighttown only to be sent back the way I came, I finally started to enjoy this game

    Posted: 16 Feb 2021 06:25 PM PST

My journey through Blighttown and part of Demon Ruins wasn't very pleasant to say the least. I think I took at least two days off to keep myself from going hollow and quitting the game altogether, but I managed. Going through Sen's Fortress wasn't that much of an experience for me, besides figuring out how to get past the upper levels and the golem. It wasn't until I reached Anor Londo that I started to genuinely enjoy the time I spent, and I remember crying tears of joy when I finally defeated Ornstein and Smough and reached Gwynevere. To say that going through Anor Londo was a pleasant experience would do a disservice to the experience I had there, and I can see why it's mostly agreed upon to be the best area in the game, and perhaps even in the entire series. I haven't finished the game yet, but my stay in Anor Londo is still fresh in my mind, so I believe this to be a fitting time to write about my playthrough, and as always, praise the sun!

I wanted to quit! I wanted to quit so bad! 4 days I've been trying to make my way through Blighttown and I finally did it today. Firelink Shrine never looked so good.

[Theory] Drop rates penalized on multiple kill farming

    Posted: 17 Feb 2021 01:36 AM PST

I farm a lot in the depths for humanity, large titanite shards, and green titanite shards.

On my first character, I'd easily get 30 humanity in a 1 hour run. I wielded an Uchigatana, had 10 humanity, and a Coventous Serpent Ring.

On my next three characters, I experienced a frustrating drop farming here. Sure, you can say RNG made my first playthrough a breeze but I decided to test it today.

I'm on my 4th character (faith build). Had 10 humanity w/ Conventous Serpent Ring...

and I AOE one shotted the slimes with lightning spear and AOE one shotted most rats with a Claymore sweep.

First 10 rounds? Only 5 humanity, 3 large titanite shards, and 1 green shard.

At first I thought that drop rates had an invisible bar like poise, and waited 5 seconds before killing another rat/slime.

Noticed the drop rate increased, got 2-3 humanity and 0-2 large titanite shards/green titanite shards per run.

But I recalled farming earlier in the Undead Parish, lightning spearing Balder knights in a row and almost all of them dropped an item. Which defeats the first theory.

So I thought, what if the game penalizes drop rates for multiple kills?

I suddenly remembered the Ring of the Evil Eye which steals HP per kill but not on multiple kills!!!

With that said, we can conclude that multiple kills vs. single kills is a mechanic in the game.

Which gives us a possibility that the devs used this to affect drop rates as well.

(Think about it. If you just created the hardest game in history, you wouldn't want farming to be that easily exploited by high level characters one-shotting mobs w/ AOE spells and weapons.)

So I tested this. I tried taking my time killing slimes and rats one at a time with my claymore.

    Lo and behold!!!

I got 2-4 humanity and 0-2 large titanite shards/green titanite shards per run!!!

I easily farmed 31 humanity in less than an hour, taking my time killing rats one by one.

This makes sense based on my experience, this is how I farmed with my first to fourth characters:

1st character - kill slimes and rats with Uchigatana (slow farm but got 30 humanity within an hour)

2nd character - use great chaos fireball and great fireball to kill slimes and rats (fast farm yet only got around 15 humanity per hour)

3rd character - use fire tempest and great fireball and fireball to kill slimes and rats (fast farm yet only got around 15 humanity per hour)

4th character - kill slimes and rats with Claymore (slow farm but got 30 humanity within an hour)

What do you guys think? Of course, I need more people to actually test this theory. Please comment your test runs below.

    TL;DR:

    My theory is this:

If you kill multiple enemies at the same time, you get a severe drop penalty with each enemy killed. Killing one by one sticks to the original drop rate where you rely on RNG.

Basically these are my findings after spending like 50 hours or more farming in the depths (my total play time is at 350 hours).

Is it cheating to play along with walkthroughs?

    Posted: 17 Feb 2021 03:40 AM PST

I'm new to DS series and decided to start with DS Remastered, at first I was doing on my own and after a while, I found myself that I don't really know where I'm going or why. Wandered off to a forest location full of golems and they did a quick job of explaining to me who I am and where my place is. After that, I just felt lost and didn't know how to proceed next, so I opened a walkthrough to see if I'm doing this right.

Turns out, I missed a whole lot of things; like 2 boss fights, a shit ton of useful gear and I came way under levelled to the Darkroot Forest. The guy was giving lots of useful tips and explained what I need to do and why. Without it, I wouldn't even know that you can kick in this game or that you can shoot off a dragon's tail to get a cool sword.

I know that the best way to experience DS is to dive into it blindly and figure stuff out on your own, but it also makes the game unnecessary frustrating when you're just lost and have no clue what to do. Perhaps I should finish DS:R with a walkthrough and start DS2 on my own now that I have some experience?

Gravelord Greatsword in the early game

    Posted: 16 Feb 2021 08:48 PM PST

Yesterday, I started a new game and thought it would be cool to get the Gravelord Greatsword early, and I just realized you can get it up to +3 in Undead Parish. You get a Demon Titanite from trading a Dung Pie to Snuggly, another one from trading a Prism Stone (both can be bought from the Undead Female Merchant), and then you get one each from the Prowling Demons in the Parish and in the Catacombs (the Catacombs one isn't really that hard once you have +2). You get 344 base damage and toxin build-up, so it's pretty good up until Sen's or Anor Londo, though you can get +5 once you are there. You need at least 16 STR and 13 DEX to two hand. Just wanted to share this "route" to get rather OP early

Guys I need moral support for Tomb of Giants

    Posted: 17 Feb 2021 03:28 AM PST

Put the game down for a bit because I've been busy with work, came back last night to Tomb of the Giants. Patches kicked me into some hole and I killed everything down there including the two hollowed dudes. Went into next area and was one shot by bone dog boy and it scared the shit outta me. This place is creepy as hell.

Ornstein & Smough have fallen (My experience)

    Posted: 16 Feb 2021 02:28 PM PST

This is my first playthrough, when I arrived to Anor Londo I thought those two were going to be easy because I have already completed Dark Souls 3, Bloodborne and Sekiro. But then I realised the kind of game Dark Souls Remastered was, so I prepared myself for the first attempt and almost defeated Ornstein (I didn't have any humanities because I had lost them against the famous Anor Londo archers!) with no help but then I noticed after a long time I had the crystal halberd so I started to use it against them but I had no clue how to defeat O&S (I was using the Elite Knight armor) and started thinking about using the lightest armor with the green grass shield. And finally I tried many times and I was closer to defeat them until today. I was so happy that I yelled at the Screen. In conclusion, Ornstein and Smough are one of my favorite bosses from FromSoftware games and they are such a pain in the ass but in the end I learnt that I shouldn't be confident and check my inventory every single time I pick something important. 🥸

This game is a masterpiece, don't forget it guys!

    Knights Honor - misinformation

    Posted: 16 Feb 2021 11:13 PM PST

    Hi all,

Just a courtesy post for those going for Knights Honour - this just popped for me on NG+ without crafting Artorias' shield.

I did have the cleansing shield from the DLC so not sure if that substitutes.

I also didn't have the gravelord greatsword. So I have no idea at all what the requirements are, only that they are listed incorrectly everywhere I saw and it is much easier.

So, i decided to start playing Dark Souls on PC...

    Posted: 16 Feb 2021 09:29 PM PST

    So, have a few questions.

First of all, which exactly Dark Souls should i play, and what version would that be? My friend plays Prepare to Die, and said that it was made for weaker computers, but my PC is a lot better (Ryzen 5 and 1650), so i should play another one.

I also want to play it with better graphics and smoother framerate, so i thought about buying Remastered, but having it at the same price with 2011 game seems kinda weird to me, if i can mod 2011 version.

Third, i heard that PC port of DS was terrible, so are there any newer mods to improve it? I scrolled through Nexus, and a lot of mods are from 2012. Would they work as well as some of the newer ones?

Disasters are gone after the defeat of the gravelord servant

    Posted: 17 Feb 2021 02:19 AM PST

After defeating the Iron Golem, and arriving to Anor Londo, I started seeing this message "disasters are gone after the defeat of the gravelord servant" along with a weird summoning sign (I say weird because its colors are different to the coop sign).

When I access the sign I invade the gravelord servant world (maybe?). I become a blue ghost, usually there are other blue ghosts with me. I beat the red ghost and go back to my world.

Can someone help me understand what's happening? I've done this a couple of times so far, once in the Painted World of Ariamis and once near the second bonfire in Anor Londo. But I'm not sure what's going on.
