    Return to Drangleic 2021

With special thanks to StarsRaven, I have taken initiative to start this years Dark Souls 2 Return!

Its Official. We Cursed ones are coming back.

February 23,2021 we return to Drangleic

    RULES

These are suggestions on how to proceed to enhance the return for everybody.

Start a new character. Those builds you've been iffy with or wanting to try something new. Now's the time!

Engage in as much Coop and PvP as possible. Not much of a PvP player? Eh take the plunge and summon that red sign. Prefer to play solo? Why not call in that Sun Bro? Engage

Name engraved ring can help you connect to friends, otherwise it's best to leave it off

Leave a message in Majula saying "Don't give up Skeleton!". Be generous with your voting and placing of signs.

    Play at your pace.

SotFS is recommended and this is for ALL PLATFORMS.

    Helpful Tips and Suggestions

The PvP arena will be on the bridge in Iron Keep.

Newcomers should talk to Saulden sitting at the base of the monument in Majula to join the Way of the Blue. It will call a Blue Sentinel in to help you if you get invaded.

DO NOT join the covenant of champions if you want to play coop. It restricts your coop and you can only be invaded.

    Fight the pigs in Majula.

For newcomers and refreshers for veterans. Dark Souls 2 runs on a soul memory tier system. Your soul memory is based on SOULS COLLECTED. Even souls you lose still count. The White Soapstone can reach 3 tiers down and 1 tier up and Small White Soapstone can reach 4 tiers down and 2 tiers up. Here is the link to keep track of your tiers.

    https://darksouls2.wiki.fextralife.com/Soul+Memory

If you wish to be invaded more often equip the Delicate Ring. It increases your invasion chance.

DO NOT DISCONNECT WHEN MID FIGHT WITH INVADERS OR AS AN INVADER. You will be punished and may lose the ability to play online. You have to use the consumable Bone of Order to regain the ability to play and you only get 1 per playthrough.

If you're looking to trade gear head over to r/wheelanddeal

Most of all enjoy our Return to Drangleic Bearer of the curse… Seek souls. Larger, more powerful souls. Seek the King, that is the only way. Lest this land swallow you whole… As it has so many others

Lighting pillars is way to satisfying

    Posted: 02 Feb 2021 09:16 PM PST

I will go out of my way sometimes to light the pillars in certain areas. Not because the light will help areas, but just because it's so satisfying.

    Posted: 03 Feb 2021 06:14 AM PST

Just wanted to ask if it's happening this year, and if so what day does it start. Would love to do some co-op, also got a great idea for a new build. I'm playing on Xbox one of anyone out there is doing the same.

Ideas from the series you wish they had kept?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2021 05:39 AM PST

For me the feature would've been black knights wandering the map and appearing in random places, would've been hella scary to turn a corner and a random black knight whacks you with his great sword, or being attacked by one while fighting other enemies.

Would've been great if they had kept the OG lighting on ds2

Why isn't the Scorching Iron Scepter a weapon?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2021 10:08 AM PST

It'd be so cool to lug around and fight with a glorified cane that's constantly burning.

This guy did a genocide run??

    https://www.twitch.tv/jojackmcgurk

He cleared all the areas and just posts creepy twitch streams walking around empty maps. It's disturbing af. I didn't know it was possible?

Is a miracle hex build worth it?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2021 09:15 AM PST

I've done a sorcery hex build and loved dark orb, but it seems that all the good damaging miracle hexes consume souls. Is it still enjoyable, or do people tend to not like miracle hexer builds?

    Build Showcase: Meet the Sniper

    Posted: 03 Feb 2021 09:01 AM PST

One of the things I have to do with every IP I enjoy is mash it together with every single other thing I like too in an attempt to find which go together like chocolate and peanut butter and which really really don't. And with Return to Drangleic fast approaching, I thought I'd share some builds I've been developing off and on for a while now. Builds attempting to recreate the appearance, weapons and abilities of nine particular mercenaries from the badlands.

Now obviously there's a few things missing from Souls that you would find in a first person shooter like Team Fortress 2. You know, like guns. But luckily there's already an official game mode in TF2 that restricts them to medieval(ish) weapons, and DS2 already has red and blue teams that can fight each other. So for anyone looking for a new build to play with, step right up and sign on for a tour with Mann Co.

Example builds are made for SL150 and include what I think would be the closest equivalents of each mercenary's equipment, but I highly recommend modifying and playing them the way you want.

    Meet the Sniper

Once again the classes most useful in Medieval Mode prove to be the easiest to translate to a fantasy setting. While the sniper loses access to his rifle and SMG, he still has access to bows, shields, knives and of course jars full of urine.

Playing the game with a bow as your primary weapon can take some readjusting if you're used to melee. It's sort of similar to a sorcery build in that you should always be trying to stay outside of an enemy's effective range.

    Weapons:

    • Huntsman - Short Bow (or really most other bows work too)
    • Fortified Compound - Hunter's Blackbow
    • Razorback - Lion Clan Shield
    • Jarate - Corrosive Urns
    • Kukri - Manikin Sabre
    • Tribalman's Shiv - Red Rust Scimitar (best used with Strength scaling bows)
    • Shahanshah - Scimitar or Melu Scimitar

    Armor:

    • Larrikin Robin - Hunter's Hat or Durgo's Hat
    • Anger/Dread Riding Hood - Thief Mask
    • Archer's Sterling - Cale's Helm
    • Basically any chest cosmetic - Wanderer Coat

    Example Builds:

    Meet the Team

    • Demoman
    • Sniper (you are here)
    • Medic (coming soon)
    • Spy (coming soon)
    • Soldier (coming soon)
    • Scout (coming soon)
    • Heavy (coming soon)
    • Pyro (coming soon)
    • Engineer (coming never)

Need help about SM an SL

    Posted: 03 Feb 2021 01:36 PM PST

I love the pvp on this game, I always enjoyed doin' raw claymore/bluemoon build for invasions on the gargoyles area. Thing is... I haven't played this build since 2014 probably, so I can't remember what SM and SL I should keep my character at :(

Black crystaling immediately in the arena/duel

    Posted: 03 Feb 2021 08:34 AM PST

Why do some people just BC out immediately in the arena after seeing who's the opponent? It usually happens when I've fought that person a few times already and won. Sometimes it happens even on the Iron keep bridge when I summon same people over red signs there.

What are the usual reasons for this?

About the Two Supposed Bonfires at the Shrine of Winter.

    Posted: 03 Feb 2021 11:29 AM PST

Multiple sources online say there are two bonfires associated with the Shrine of Winter. I cannot find them on my current playthrough but I did seem to remember there being a bonfire before the castle. Though I could very well be wrong on that. I have a blank space on my fast travel menu with room for two bonfires. Could someone tell me where the bonfires are. If there are no bonfires at or near the shrine could somebody let me know where I should be looking?

Edit: I'm playing the SotFS edition.

Sunbro looking for people that need/want coop. (SOTFS) (PC)

    Posted: 03 Feb 2021 09:36 AM PST

    Level 102, SM 1500000.

AergoXenn in Steam, Friend code: 182347603.

For better chances of connecting use Name-engraged ring with "Evlana, goddess of the hunt" as per fextralife suggestion, makes connecting easier.

Not sure how far back I can go, but Iron Keep and beyond seem to be the most active. Been summoned even in sinners rise recently.

Anyone interested send me a message and we'll play.

    Cheers,

I need some help please (SotfS)

    Posted: 03 Feb 2021 04:27 AM PST

Hi, I tried asking for help in Summonsign, but it seems most people there aren't be able to help with this game.

I'm stuck at Iron Keep and I just can't progress. If I make it to Smelter Demon he wipes the floor with my sorry butt and when I try to take the other route (up the ladder and over the lava pool) I get ganked by Alonne Knights.

I lost so many souls already, my soul memory goes up and I'm not able to find a summon sign anywhere.

Please, if anyone around sl 82 and sm 760000 has the time, I'm slowly going insane here :(.

    I' on PS5.

Worth to upgrade Dragonslayer Crescent Axe?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2021 02:51 AM PST

So I've been using this axe for most of my playthrough, I have it +2 now and I just killed the big fire man (the first boss) in Iron Keep pretty easily with it. Only problem is that it costs twinkling shards to upgrade. It seems really good and I like the "handling" of it, it's fast and I just like the feel to it. I usually want to finish games without asking for too much help to keep the immersion but I can def make an exception for something like this. So what I'm wondering is two things: First, since I got the axe so early, is it possible that I will soon find a weapon that is just better than it in every way, or at least most ways? And second, is twinkling shards easy to find later and not actually that rare and valuable (like in ds1 where :minor spoiler for ds1: you can farm the clams for easy twinklings)? No need to go too much into detail, I'd even prefer if you keep it pretty brief but I'm asking for your help here so do as you would like, but a simple yes or no to my 2 questions would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Beat Darklurker on my 3rd try!

    Posted: 02 Feb 2021 11:19 PM PST

Beat dat ass and then promptly disposed of Nashandra and Aldia. I did it! I put over 94 hours into my first playthrough of Sotfs. People can say this game is flawed but I loved it. I think it's now my fav souls game. I never put this much time into 1 or 3.
