I'm so sorry I started out attacking you... I can't believe you turned around and dropped me all that treasure. I don't know if you'll ever read this, but if you do, you're fucking awesome and people like you are the reason I love this game. I've actually not been in a great place lately mental health wise and I really needed that bit of kindness, thank you for helping restore my faith in humanity a bit. I promise to pay it forward.

Some people are special. This person created the mod "Spare Sif", in which you obtain the Covenant of Artorias by savin Sif in DLC, not by killing Sif.

New to Dark Souls, this subreddit is so depressing sometimes

    Posted: 23 Jan 2021 06:23 PM PST

(This is just a mild rant, not an actual complaint about this sub)

So I don't think I'm doing terribly for a complete smoothbrain and a noob to the series (so far, I'm on O&S right now and have yet to defeat them, but all the other bosses died within 1-5 tries), actually I fully expected to drop the game altogether, since I tend to give up instantly. But - I'm loving it so far, the sense of discovery is fantastic, bosses are fun, you can feel yourself getting better with every beaten enemy, it's great. Makes me happy.

And then I'll be done with the game for the evening, come here and it seems like every other post is a variation of "Oh my god boss [X] is so easy, beat him first try, how come you idiots aren't as good as me?", and I just feel like shit again lol. Kind of wish there was a "brag" flair, so I could filter those posts out. Anyone else getting kinda discouraged by those posts too?

The Knights that stand guard throughout Anor Londo, are they automatons or giants?

    Posted: 24 Jan 2021 12:13 AM PST

Been wondering this a little. They don't make any grunts or noises and their movement is all stiff and robotic like. But they share the same giant armor that Big Boi blacksmith sells, leading me to also think they're giants.

    Bonewheel skeletons. Fuck those guys.

    Posted: 24 Jan 2021 01:43 AM PST

There can be a lot of frustrating moments in this game, but few make me as mad as these assholes. The tracking, the stunning, the shield breaking, the ambushing.....it's just too much.

Collecting data about Estus flasks in the dark souls games.

    Posted: 24 Jan 2021 02:19 AM PST

I'm currently writing a video essay on healing items in video games and one of the games I'm using is Dark souls, due to the gameplay being similar enough (notably Combat and Estus) these examples can be applied to all of the dark souls games.

I need to collect some data on Estus flask and how often people use them as well as how important they truly are in the long run.

Because of Dark Souls having a fairly large skill disparity between just picking up the game and actually beating it a couple of times certain question are for people who have beaten the game more than once or twice.

If you have any points or notes that you encountered in a first or subsequent playthrough I'd love to hear them.

    Polls,

    Question anyone can answer,

    http://www.strawpoll.me/42503403

If you're experienced (have beaten the game more than twice).

Do people really find this game harder than DS3?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2021 06:17 PM PST

I've heard that many people think that this game is harder than DS3, but aside from the occasional clunkiness, and poor design (Bed of Chaos), DS3 is much harder. Maybe they were used to the faster enemies of DS3, and having a faster roll, but I don't understand how they could find this game harder than DS3, especially on repeated playthroughs.

I myself started with DS1, and while I have my gripes with DS3 I think it has more challenge, while being more fair as well.

People who find DS1 harder than DS3, please explain why it's harder for you.

To the Black-Iron Knight who helped me in Oolacile (Switch)

    Posted: 23 Jan 2021 10:47 PM PST

Thank you for helping me fend off multiple Invaders!: even when you were out of Estus and on 10 HP, you still charged that caster/swordsman up the stairs, and from there, after some circling, we cornered him, and whacked him over the head over, and over, and over again with our ultra greatswords until he was vanquished for a second time by your hands. I'll remember that for a very long time! (You gave a good fight, "invader")

And thank you for giving me a tour of the run-down town, along with some secrets. This area has been very intimidating, but you made things a bit better :) The twinkling titanite trade was incredibly kind of you as well!

Thank you again for your help, Black-Iron kd! (I was wearing the Elite Knight armor with the Zweihander, I'm still a newby)

Finally beat the capra demon after about 10 tries, it's a really BS fight in my opinion. Having no room to move, and the 2 dogs chasing you is what makes it hard, not so much the boss himself

More Fun Watching Other Gamers Play

    Posted: 23 Jan 2021 10:48 PM PST

I used to play Dark Souls about 6 years ago with a friend and definitely got carried the majority of the time as I was a noob. Fast forward to yesterday and I began watching YouTube videos of skilled gamers battling bosses and killing NPCs and exploring secret areas and it got me interested in trying the game out again. After 3 hours of playing and being unable to get past the Taurus Demon, I realize that, with the little time I now have to play/watch video games, I get way more enjoyment out of watching other players do well battling enemies and traversing the bosses. The amount of frustration I get from playing so little just isn't worth the amount of future time playing this game. Good luck to starters, skilled players, or veterans as I'm retiring from this game for good. Drop a link below if you stream this game as I would be interested in watching. Also, does anyone feel the same way and come to this subreddit to enjoy looking at others play the game?

    I can’t believe it’s over

    Posted: 23 Jan 2021 05:09 PM PST

Today is the day I so many times thought will never come. I beat the game for the first time! What an incredible masterpiece it is. For so many days in the final parts I've been looking forward to maybe playing something else than dark souls as I was focused to finish it. Choosing in my head which games I will play next. Now that I'm back in the cell, I think I need to play it again. Everything I know and learned, there is a sense of freedom I have to explore, I don't want leave!

I finally beat the Capra Demon!

    Posted: 23 Jan 2021 08:26 PM PST

So as discussed in my "took another shot at Havel" post, I had tried the Capra Demon a few times, and that sucked to no end.

As was shared in the comments there is a cheese method for the Capra, and I decided after getting stomped on a few more times to give it a shot.

First time I only bought 20 firebombs... And I guess at least on switch version there is no audio queue when you hit him, nor a health bar. So after flinging all 20 I went in and he ran right at me as if nothing had worked. But I noticed his health bar was about 20% lower so I figured out I must had been hitting him a bit.

I went and farmed and got 50 firebombs this time. Sat and flung the whole damn stack.

When I went in this time he only had like 25% of his health and only 1 poison doggo.

Ran to the top corner, killed the pup, and then when he came up I tried to block everything I could till he fell off after which I used my pyro to hit him till he climbed back up. 2 cycles of this and chugging estus and he is dead!!!!

Thank you guys for the help. I've been trying to avoid guides and whatnot as I hear it's the best way to approach but I'd have likely given up on this game due to this fight so I'm happy I peaked for this one.

I ran back to my bonfire under the bridge and am gonna start looking for where the lower key goes. God I hope it's not as miserable as that was...

What weapon should you be using? How to be OP in PvE

    Posted: 24 Jan 2021 01:27 AM PST

Use a standard +15 painting guardian dagger with a faith/dex or sorcerer/dex build and buff it with the best weapon buff. I prefer crystal weapon.

Congratulations you have now unlocked super easy mode.

Your hitting harder than the black knight weapons and swinging fast as fuck boi

Bonus: Dagger has super low weight. Damn now u can fast roll with that cute ass outfit u been wantin to wear. Be sure to 2h the dagger tho

Bonus 2: You also have spells or miracles now. Damn boi slow down u so fuckin op. Crystal soul spear. damuhge lmao

Cons of this weapon: low range and poise break so it's shitty in PvP. Your god in PvE.

Haven't played DS1 in awhile. Might be patched? Seriously doubt it. Go get em tiger

I did it!!!! Ornstein and smough

    Posted: 23 Jan 2021 08:51 AM PST

Yes!!!! I did it!!! Legit beat them on my first try, using demon great machete +10. I was expecting to kose a couple times before beating them, but I can definitely see why they're considered the hardest boss in the game. I totally forgot about phase 2, and by then i was already out of estus, luckily humanity also heals a ton. Btw, is it pronounced SMOG like in "eggnog", or SMOW like in "snow"?

Did Siegland glitch out of my game?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2021 11:13 PM PST

I'm on NG+ and the Siegmeyer questline worked just fine on my last playthrough, but now Siegland's golem won't appear in Duke's Archives. Siegmeyer is at Firelink so idk what's happening. I tried reloading the area, quitting out and going back in, and the golden golem just won't spawn.

I can’t believe how easy it is on the second playthrough

    Posted: 23 Jan 2021 10:37 AM PST

I am playing as a sorcerer and I am blown away by how much easier the game is now that I know what I am doing. It feels like I am playing it on easy mode compared to the first time.

I played the first time without looking up help for the most part. I did get some advice for O&S and read some tips.

One thing I didn't know until was how armor weight was dragging me done. The other thing was that you can run by holding down roll. How I got that far without knowing those things I am not sure, but it really helped when I found out.

Anyway, I am really liking sorcery but when it comes to bosses I am back to sword/shield. I feel more badass then when was just a dex warrior.

    Posted: 24 Jan 2021 12:30 AM PST

I have the Black Knight Sword currently upgraded to +5. Is it possible to upgrade it beyond that? Do i need to tho? Or can I go through the rest of the game just with this one? I just have New Londo to go and then Gwyn. Or maybe should i upgrade smt else? I also have the Black Knight Halberd.
