I summoned you in Heide's Tower, The Wharf and Bastille for co-op (my first ng+) and I rudely sent you home at McDuffs bonfire without waving/bowing. I had meant to rest at the bonfire and re-summon you afterwards. Anyway, my apologies, thanks for the jolly co-op and hopefully we'll meet up again.

    First impressions

    Posted: 23 Jan 2021 10:35 AM PST

So I'm coming from ds1 and heard a lot of mixed things about this game. I found the end of ds1 pretty easy but holy hell the first area of Ds2 after Majula is actually really hard for a first area. There is something about this game that feels a lot smoother though.

Armor for defense vs light weight for stamina recovery? (PVE)

    Posted: 23 Jan 2021 04:54 AM PST

So I'm that guy probably spends about as much time theorycrafting and trying to understand the mechanics of this game as I do actually playing it. Recently I was pondering the pros and cons of armor in PVE.

I don't really have a good sense of how much damage mitigation you get from defense in DS2, but I do know that decreasing equip load % will increase base stamina recovery. The wiki doesn't have full numbers, but if the fextra numbers are correct then decreasing equip load from 70% to 30% increases base stamina regen from ~34 to ~48 (about a 40% increase!). This seems amazing, and if items like chloranthy give you a percent bonus based on this base stamina recovery this effect is magnified.

I don't try to poise-trade in PVE so I'm mostly wondering how much damage reduction you can reasonably build in at 70% on a flynn build with limited VIT. I've heard defense in this game is a bit underwhelming and I tend to lean toward light weight fashion souls, but thought I'd ask some of the more experienced DS2 vets.

    Thanks!

For players that doesn’t know how stats work

    Posted: 23 Jan 2021 12:28 PM PST

First: anyone can add or correct me, and I will test that part before I edit it

    Ok

Defence: what do each mean for me def wise past "higher the number the better" well physical and elemental and status resistances all have different values to each other, physical is a % of diminishing values not visual to the game so let's start there

Physical-1000=100%??? Well yes but no, you're thinking in the right direction though

A def of 100 is 10% 300=25% 600=35% and 1200=40% so that's that right? Wrong it's like ds3, there is a small flat too, 10% of your total is added as flat damage making 120 of what hits you reduced (the weapon stuff is gonna get funky)

Elemental- get your number, divide by 10 add a % to it and it caps at 90% for environmental and 75% of attacks

Resistances- this gets random as hell, I've had 1000 before and resisted everything before, then something decides to ruin it and start getting me still but it's same as elemental except capped at 99.99%

Weapons- this part was annoying as hell to work the def out however, weapon weight has a form of armour piercing, but then some weapons decide to tell me no on that same theory, until I found it today, weapon type+weapon weight, I don't know the values to this fully but it seems to range between 0-15% with pancaking people being 15% each time as for magic, I gave up, anyone else can give it a go but it's been so damn random, all I know is faint stone ends up causing more damage than it shows extra and that's about it (averaged about 2% armour pen but it's so random)

Split damage-dlc pve, useless, pvp vs light def, awesome, heavy, useless, that's all there is to it

Is Ornstein’s armor set in the game? Aka dragon slayer armor.

    Posted: 23 Jan 2021 07:23 AM PST

Just bought DS2 Scholar of the first sin and was wondering if his armor set is in the game? It's my favorite armor to wear in DS1 and DS3.

    Souls based discord server

    Posted: 23 Jan 2021 09:24 AM PST

    https://discord.gg/PA6gv9drR6

    Hey you hollows,

I've just created a discord server which welcomes all soulsborne fanboys like myself. The discord will act as a hub for meeting other souls fans, grouping up, duelling, and eventually PvP tournaments. I will be streaming the events, and personally funding the prize pools.

I feel based on my participation and viewing of this sub, and all of the other soulsborne subs that there are a lot of die hard fans of this series out there, but finding friends who feel the same about the series can be tough due to the nature of these games. Hopefully if this server is a success, it can alleviate that problem for many of you. I am aware there are LFG subreddits and discords out there already, but I'm hoping maybe this one can be a bit more personal for everyone involved.

    Thank you for your consideration,

    Have a great day hollows.

What class do you all start with? And why?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2021 12:27 PM PST

I usually pick deprived because they start at level 1 but I noticed a number of people online playing swordsman of late.

Are there particular builds that benefit from having certain starting stats diminished and having those points distributed elsewhere? Aside from the legendary 1-intelligence sorcerer builds haha

    I couldn't co-op… any ideas?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2021 07:53 AM PST

So I was at Heide's Tower of Flame at the first bonfire and I wanted some help against Old Dragonslayer, but I couldn't see the other player's sign.

We both took human effigies and wore the engraved ring with the same god, SM shouldn't have been the problem. I was playing from PS5 and he was using PS4. We tried for a while but at the end we had to leave it. The only thing that I suspect could've affected the co-op was that I was playing NG and the bonfire was level 4, he hadn't levelled up his bonfire…

You guys think it could be the bonfire level, or maybe that we were using two different PS? I've also been playing for two days without seeing any sign but I guess the servers are quite dead, specially after the DeS remake

After running out of human effigies and foolishly walking in to the lava on my first attempt, I decided to just git gewd. He was surprisingly easy to dodge and pick away at. I now have my first king's soul. I am really loving this game.

Can't seem to get summoned - can I get some pointers?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2021 10:08 AM PST

Just started getting in to Dark souls and have never been able to figure out the summon feature. I've used my white soapstone by a few fires in no-man's wharf and lost bastille, but i've never been summoned. I read that i need to help someone via summon to get into the blue sentinals (I just want to buy boltstones so i can put lightning on my bastard sword). Other than scribbling with my white soapstone, can anyone give me a few pointers?

Hello, I have this thing where I have to 100% a game before I can move on to the next game in the series. One of the achievements in dark souls requires advancement in the bell keepers covenant. Is there a group a can join that coordinates pvp? Or is the game still active enough?

    sl1 run complete

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 04:40 PM PST

i finally finished my sl1 Coc run for dark souls 2, and what a journey its been. like what i did for the previous two games, im gonna run through my experience with each boss, listing my thoughts on it, the strategy i used if i feel its necessary to discuss, as well as the number of deaths i had which will be numbered in the (parentheses) next to each boss name. Once ive completely gone through them ill list my overall thoughts on the bosses, the run itself, its difficulty compared to others as well as my intentions for the future of the run since im sure by the end some of you will notice there are a few individuals missing from my run currently. all this will be tackled at the end

fair warning, this will be incredibly lengthy, so dont feel inclined to read all the way through if you arent interested in that. also a fair warning, im going to do my best to be nice to this game, but im being upfront with all of you dark souls 2 is easily my least favorite game in the series for a wide variety of reasons, some of which are extremely relevant to a sl1 run through of the game in particular, and as a result ill probably be unabashedly mean in some parts of this. if any of you take issue with my interpretation of a boss or whatnot however, as far as quality or design goes or whatever, id be happy to discuss that in comments and stuff

Ill also be discussing changes made as far as weapons and gear if i made any significant ones and when they happened. Please also note that bosses will appear in the order they were tackled, which may mean that my run ended very differently from your own. I also didnt purposefully attempt to cheese any bosses with one (maybe 2?) exceptions, so these fights were relatively fair. I think cheesing fights in a sl1 fight kinda defeats the purpose, but thats just me. the ones i did cheese however i will explain my reasoning. ok i did say this would be long but lets get started

disclaimer: if i spell any boss names wrong or get something wrong forgive me

Note: At this point i have the starting gear equipt, the dagger from things betwixt and the red shield picked up on the way to dragonrider

Dragonrider (0): This is the only boss i would consider myself as having completely cheesed. Im pretty sure everyone knows the trick where you bait him to walk himself off the ledge of the arena, but it was the start of the run and i really just wanted to get to the big boys. this is debatably the easiest fight in the entire game if you just strafe him opposite of his movement he will never hit you so im fairly confident i wouldnt have died against him any outstanding number of times. and if i ever need to prove myself in the future by not cheesing him im sure itd take me all of 10 minutes to do so im ok with this

Note: Traded in the dagger for the hand axe

The last giant (1): Yeah i actually died to him. i got greedy and overextended, leading into a foot slam where i did dodge, but hey. adp is a thing. and yeah, we're going to discuss that at some point but whatever, last giant really isnt that bad of a fight you deal very adequate damage against him. just watch the foot stomps

Pursuer (0): One of my favorite bosses in the game, i really enjoy the pursuer. Hes a lot more annoying with shit adp, but even still this was a very engaging fight. i can parry him but opted against it, i didnt want to get one shot by accident, and no i didnt use ballista's either. in retrospect i should have swapped to a mace instead of the hand axe, but oh well. i still got him first try.

Note: at some point here i bought a mace and began upgrading it alongside the hand axe

Flexile sentry (0): i really dislike the wharf. i think its a painfully boring area with a pretty lackluster boss to boot and yeah, he was a total pushover. I do like his gimmick, but hes just not that difficult. As for strategy i always keep to his mace side and bait those attacks, theyre way slower and safer to punish. I guess i should also recommend to be aggressive since i know there is a gimmick with the water rising, but ive never actually had this hinder me before, i have no idea how long this takes to go into effect

    Note: switched to dagger

The lost sinner (1): this fight is really taxing on sl1 since your stamina is shit and your shield options are pretty trash, but adp is shit too so you have to be very good at dodging the attacks perfectly. i actually opted for the dagger in this fight, since its quicker and doesnt use as much stamina. it was a lengthy one but even still, i only died once so id say it payed off by the end. as far as strategy you just have to be really cautious and not overextend, because you need reserve stamina or youll get combo'd into the abyss

    Note: switched to mace

Skeleton lords (0): One of the first truly awful bosses in the game imo. its just a gank fight. thankfully though its an easy one if you know what to do. kill one of the three big boys, then spank the reinforcements they summon upon death. I usually go for the middle one first, that takes care of the bonewheel guys. then i just go for whoever of the remaining two is easier to kill first, kill their spawns, finish it off you get the drill. The mace does far better damage to skele boys as opposed to slash damage, so yeah.

    Note: back to handaxe

Covetous demon (0): everyone knows this boss is easy, just use slash damage instead of strike since strike is not good against him.

Mytha (15): This was the first real roadblock i guess for me? although its not really a huge one or anything, but she does pose a substantial threat with, again, low adp and she has a lot of attacks that come out really quick. some of her lunges have a super short windup, so you really have to be paying attention to her. Strategy wise, staying too close seemed to be a mistake, she'd often use a spin attack that really fucked me over with her tail, so i quite that strategy eventually. Just learn the lunges and get good at dodging them, then go in for one or two slashes and repeat until dead. Her head throw attack is especially nice since if youre close enough when it starts you can get several slashes in.

Nadjka (10): Ive always disliked this boss. always felt a little to close to the quelaag fight for me but the real issue i have is the homing soul mass attack she does. its one of the worst attacks easily because depending on how close you are to her will basically dictate whether or not youre able to dodge it. If she keeps her distance, its relatively easy to dodge them if youre strafing, but up close they fire so quick and in such rapid succession that youre probably just screwed, and they one shotted me most of the time. the other extremely annoying thing about her is her double stab attack. not the one where she attacks twice with her tail in front of her, the one that functions as a grab that then toxics you. dodging this with shit adp is practically impossible if youre strafing up close, you can clearly dodge the attack but youll still take the hit because you have no iframes. and this is a one hit ko. the attack itself wont kill you, but literally by the time you recover from the attack the toxic will have done you in, you dont even get a chance to heal. all i can say is bait her weapons stabs, avoid her tail attacks at all costs and hope she doesnt spam the homing souls attack too much.

Note: once you reach the bonfire before the prowling losers and spaghettification, id highly recommend grinding the peasants in the area. their armor set (aside from the head piece) grants plus 2 adp for each one, meaning that you can increase your agility a decent amount. its nowhere near ideal, but better dodging is a godsent. Also by this time, if youve been following galvan's sidequest you can purchase infinite poison knives and poison arrows which are extremely useful, so id definitely recommend doing that. I actually bought a ton of poison knives, went to things betwixt, and killed the two ogres in the area. doing this and then talking to the old ladies in the hut will give you the ladle, and this weapon when equipped give you an additional plus 2 adp. you have to two hand the hand axe to attack anyway, so just put the ladle in the offhand and keep two handing the axe, and you now have like 14 adp which is wayyyyyy better than the 6 you started with

prowling magus and congregation (1): i dont even remember how i died, i think one of the dudes on the floor hit me when i was focusing on magus. magus and the two lightning dues actually hit pretty hard, especially at sl1 but this is another pretty easy fight, just another stupid gank.

Dukes dear freja (0): Never liked this fight. it could be great, but it has the ds2 standard of artificially inflating difficulty by spamming spiders in the fight to supplement the boss itself. and these spiders hit like a truck. i wiped them all out initially, but once they started spawning a second time (yeah if you didnt know even killing all the spiders in the first place they will eventually spawn again, idk if its based on a timer or the bosses health bar getting lowered enough, but either way its pretty annoying) i just ignored them to the best of my abilities and focused on the big boy. the big spider itself is pretty easy all things considered, i keep my distance and bait out the magic laser attack, run to the opposite head and deal damage. repeat that until its dead, and do your best to avoid the spam.

Royal rat authority (0): i have no fucking idea how i managed no deaths on this. i feel incredibly lucky tbh, because this fight can go so wrong so fast. its basically just whether or not you kill the 4 initial rats before they inflict toxic, and somehow i managed this first try. but even then, the big dude hits pretty hard, having 14 adp definitely helped me secure the win here. staying underneath him towards the back legs is the best strategy, he really cant hit you here, but he will jump away so that youre in front of him from time to time, and here you just need to dodge your way back under him.

Note: get cat ring by this point

Ruin sentinels (0): I could have fought these guys way earlier, but dealing with the two on the ground floor can be so irritating as far as finding an opening so by this point it had both resin buffs and a plus 10 weapon. that made this much better. smack the first guy, then get the second guy up on your platform, deal as much damage as possible before the next guy comes, drop down, finish off the first guy and then fight the second guy normal. hopefully if youre quick enough it works out. having a decent dodge also really helps. oh and fuck the drop in this fight. there is no reason drop damage should do that much from that hight. in fact fuck falling damage in general in this game. it was buffed to shit and i have no idea why, but god its so irritating. i had the cat ring for the fight too by this point so i didnt have to deal with it, but its a wasted ring slot

    Note: switch to mace

old dragonslayer (0): the dragon before the fight is the actual boss. ornstein isnt really difficult at all, especially with a good dodge now. he hits relatively hard, but he shouldnt be hitting you at all. if youve played ds1 this fight shouldnt be an issue whatsoever, considering its a complete rip off of ornstein

    Note: back to handaxe

belfry gargoyles (4): fuck this fight too. not only is it a gank, but its the second completely copy pasted ds1 boss in ds2, except instead of fighting 2 gargoyles you have to fight 5 i think. having a plus 10 weapon is a must. having a buff and brightbugs is helpful too. my strategy was kill the first one as it spawned in with the axe while buffed with pine resin and brightbug. then deal as much damage as possible to number two. if youre quick enough, youll hopefully only have to deal with 2 at a time instead of 3, but even with what i was doing i still had 3 on me at a few points in the fight. all you can do here is run around the arena and wait for an opening. i feel pretty lucky that i only had to fight these guys 4 times too.

royal rat vanguard (1): another gank. how fun. the gimmick here is the petrify but the problem for me was just getting swarmed by rats and getting combod to death. kill ten to make the boss appear, then kill him as quickly as possible. he is super weak, but getting surrounded is always a problem so you still gotta be careful. the really nice thing here is that the bonfire is right next to the boss fog. this is not the case with all bosses, and that will be a problem further on

the rotten (2): both deaths here im pretty sure i just got greedy, wasted too much stamina and couldnt dodge his swing and the next time i died to his aoe. dont get greedy basically. also the adp boost again makes this so much more tolerable. strafe to his left the whole time. once you get him half health watch for the aoe attack. thats basically it

    Note: switch to mace

smelter demon (4): this run is awful. its funny, ive heard how terrible the iron keep was for so long but im used to vanilla ds2, not sotfs, so i really didnt know what people were talking about. they must have changed something in sotfs because it was not this cancerous in ds2 vanilla. the enemies can sense you from so far away its actually ridiculous. the agro range is obscene. and you have to wipe them all out or you will get fucked at the fog wall. smelter demon himself though is great. hes actually probably my favorite fight in the base version of ds2. he had a few really quick follow up stabs to attacks i forgot about and thats what i died to every time, because id usually be using a life gem and hed fuck me. so watch for that, especially in phase 3. the run is way worse than the boss though. oh but adp is a must here too, his hitboxes are pretty ridiculous otherwise.

    Note: back to axe

old iron king (0): a pretty meh fight, hes very easy to dodge and punish his arm swings. if you have the adp that is. once again, just fuck adp. what a stupid addition to this game, it makes this run so much worse than it should be. anyway, this boss is easy

    Note: back to mace

2 dragon riders (0): these guys have shit defense, especially the second one firing arrows. but that lulled me into a false sense of security where i went for kills that ended up killing me. basically just dont get greedy. wait for them to both whiff and capitalize. they really arent that hard. another gank tho, thats always fun, and a complete repeat of a previous boss lol

looking glass knight (13): this fight could be fantastic. but it has a summon. and my god does that make this so much worse. i was getting one shot by him in most instances so i ended up going for a rtsr strat actually, and that did end up working for me. you just gotta kill him before the summon comes, otherwise its basically over. oh and fuck his lightning attack. the one that shoots a single beam of lightning out at you? yeah, its tracking is fucked, and its completely unfair to the player. this actually happens a ton in ds2 with lots of enemies and its a huge problem imo

Note: back to axe, also get bell keeper bow and poison arrows

demon of song (0): this boss is so fucking easy, just wait for the head to appear, back up with it does some pitiful arm slams, then slash away. i know he can follow up with more, but he never did for me in this fight. instead of the boss, id like to talk about the area. fuck shrine of amana. fuck it to high heaven. this area is pure cancer. slow walking because of water {although it doesnt affect the enemies, THATS FUN:))))}, homing spells that deal like 80 percent of your health AND you can have up to five of them firing at you at once at one point. specifically the run from the second to third bonfire is awful. you need to take them out to get past here with any sanity. invest in a fuck ton of poison arrows. grind the area before the gargoyles for the bell keeper bow. now go to old iron king dlc and grab the dex ring. shoot everyone full of poison to proceed through. this area is so tedious and slight mistakes will cost you several minutes of attempts to make it through. did you know that sometimes the spells will go through the walls? they can clip through the corner of the pillars and walls that are supposed to protect you from their attacks. it happend to me more than once. straight up, fuck this area.

    Note: back to mace

Veldstat (13): another really fun fight, assuming you have the adp for it at least. he has some wonky attacks, specifically the one where he sweeps his weapon if you are behind him, that one can be very annoying to dodge. thats basically the fight, you just have to be good at dodging his attacks, because especially once the second phase starts, he'll one shot you with basically everything. the annoying part about this fight is the run to the boss. they just stuck 3 heavily armored dudes right before the boss fog to fuck you over, plus the magic dudes that spawn in. luckily you can avoid them i found. first, go under the stairs at the start of the hallway and take out the undead dude. then run to the left side to take out the undead dude hiding over there. run all the way on the left side until you get a little bit in front of the 3 armor dudes. cut across them, baiting them all, and sweep around the pillar on the right, and then book it towards the fog wall. this usually will work and allow you to get to the boss before they can interrupt you. still, disappointing boss run, but its far from the worst one.

    Note: back to axe

Throne watcher and defender (99): yep. 99 deaths. this was the only severe roadblock in this run, and fuck me did it suck. the run to the fight alone is obnoxious. wait for like 15 to 20 seconds for a stupid door to open each and every time you attempt the fight. then run an extremely long and boring path that serves nothing more than to waste your time up to the boss. now you get to fight another gank, reminiscent of O&S but worse designed. Smaller arena, nothing to block them (like the pillars in O&S to separate them effectively), and they have buffs AND heals. you really need to be patient here. you really have to learn when they are attacking and when they are backing off, and you just need to bait them until youre safe to go for some attacks. you should probably go for watcher first, she takes more damage and is quicker to kill. ive heard some people say only focus on her and then you can just take out all of defenders health before he resurrects her, but this is a fucking lie. at least for me, i had occasions where defender was almost half health and i was unable to kill him before he resurrected watcher. AND IT FULLY FUCKING RESTORES HER HEALTH.

its basically like starting the fight over. i knew they had a health regen system, but i thought it was like ds3 twin princes, maybe like half the health was restored. nope its full restore. pokemon diamond cynthia garchomp used full restore, get ready to get fucked. i mean by cynthia, ok i love a good dom and cynthia is top tier waifu material but now we're getting off topic. i really didnt enjoy this fight. A fair ammount of these attempts are admittedly me just kinda throwing away attempts, like some attempts i didnt have effigies so every attack would one shot me which i wasnt good enough to perfect the fight. other attempts were late night ones where i just wasnt really feeling the fight so i wasnt doing as well in general. you have to be patient here. you have to ensure that youre taking both of them down enough so that once you finish off one, you can ensure you finish off the other before they get the heal off. funnily enough, on the attempt which i killed them, throne defender bugged the fuck out when he was by himself, running in a loop back and forth not attacking me at all. im actually really annoyed by this, because this attempt i had him low enough that i could have killed him legit regardless. why the fuck couldnt he have done this on attempt 34 which was the first time i got him by himself. idk, but fuck these guys.

Guardian dragon (1): i died by getting stepped on. again, if this was cynthia....i mean........ but hey pokemon diamond remakes any day now boys. this fights really easy, or at least it was for me. the foot stomps should be really easy to avoid, and if he ever flys up you basically just run to the edge of the arena and you should be safe. watch out if its the fireball attack though, that one you have to run and dodge.

Ancient dragon (3): the run up to this fight is annoying. very lengthy. anyone who complains about ds1 boss runs really needs to re evaluate some of the ds2 boss runs. whatever, the fight itself is very meh. i went rtsr strat again, his fire is a one shot regardless. just run in, bait the fire attack, swipe and the feet, wait for him to fly up, run away, wait for the fire to finish, walk in front of him, bait the fire breath, repeat like 1000 times, and youre golden. hes just a tank, and if you get hit once its game over, so make sure that doesnt happen.

Giant king (0): the hardest part about this fight is the initially sword slam attack. if you can dodge that, youre probably gonna win. really slow, easy to avoid foot swipes and stops. nothing really to say. just strafe him and slash after he whiffs.

Vendrick (0): Im pretty sure i remember this fight being kinda hard? like i remember him hitting insanely hard as far as damage goes, im sure he would one shot with every attack, but its so easy to stay behind him. or at least it was for me. strafe behind him, wait for his swipes, then attack. just make sure you have all 5 giant soul thingies so you can actually deal decent damage.

Nashandra (3): easy to kill if you can dodge her scythe swipes, which one shot you. baiting her overhead slam attack is the best, you can get like 2 or 3 hits in after she misses that one, and its really easy to dodge if you strafe. in fact strafing in general is just really easy way to deal with her. you can also back up and bait her laser attack which is also stupidly easy to avoid, and then shoot arrows or run in or use consumables, whatever you want. she shouldnt be too difficult. avoid the weird curse pillars she summons, or take them out.

aldia (4): the hardest thing about this fight, is not fucking up right at the end. aldia only has a few attacks he can really use. One is where he summons 4 little fire balls. they slowly fire at you, and you can avoid them by sprinting diagnally towards them, they will loop to hit you but miss. youll know what i mean if you do it. then he can summon the big boy ball and that one you just need to put as much distance between you and aldia while he summons it, and once he throws it sprint perpendicular from it. then he can summon the multiple tentacles (kinky) and smash them into the ground, basically summoning several pillars that attack near him, but all you have to do is back away from him. this is really easy to avoid. he can also summon a single tentacle and then pillars will sprout up trailing your character, following them. the best thing for this is to get close to aldia on his left or right from where he summons the tentacle, and the pillar shouldnt be able to reach you if you hug him.

the thing is is that you only have a few seconds to ever attack aldia once he spawns in after disappearing, and then the fire damage starts racking up FAST. especially in phase two when the flames get really big. you can only really safely go for like two axe swings, then dodge away because in phase two if you arent dodging away in time the flames will two shot you incredibly fast. also, watch when he spawns in, because the aoe will one shot you as well, and its really annoying.

Note: switch to mace and bell bow

Executioners chariot (0): fuck the run to this boss yet again. spam and stupid. the bonfire is literally right underneath the bridge you have to cross. why the hell is there not a ladder or something you can kick down to shortcut to the bridge past the spam in the valley leading to it? HOW DID THEY NOT THINK TO DO THAT, ITS SO FUCKING OBVIOUS. whatever, poison arrows do their thing, then take out the red phantom, he hits like a fucking truck probably would one shot so poison him too, laugh as he dies alone and miserable in dark souls2 with no friends, then start the boss. kill skele dudes with mace, take out the necromancers, run up to the thing, and this is technically the second cheese fight i did. I killed him with arrows. i dont necessarily consider this cheese as much, but its definitely not the normal way to kill him. but i wasnt dying anymore to the fucking boss run, so screw it. shoot him to death with poison arrows or whatever you have, i found fire arrows did very good damage.

that concludes my run! i hope you all enjoyed reading my experience with the game sl1. its been a long time since i played ds2 in general, so this was certainly interesting. now i know that some of you are probably wondering, why did i stop there? im still missing a single base game boss, and i havent done any of the dlc yet. i am currently working on the dlc's, and should i ever finish them i will make a follow up post to this, but honestly thats a big if. I will probably do the dlc's and fight at least the main bosses in each dlc, but the optional bosses, i honestly dont know yet. im already working on blue smelter as we speak and holy fuck, what a terrible boss run. I know the optional bosses are defended by some ds2 fans because apparently theyre supposed to be tackled with co op, but that is not a worthy excuse for how shit these areas are. Dark souls games are a single player pve experience first, and a co op experience second. you should never be required to summon npc's in order to make the game fair. thats bullshit. what about people who dont have stable wifi? what about people who run out of effigies? what about the covenant that im fucking in right now that doesnt even allow for summons. its piss poor design, its the epitome of dog shit dark souls 2 design where they artificially inflate the difficulty by spamming the player with enemies. its not like this doesnt happen in the base game ever, but holy fuck the optional areas of each dlc are by far the worst ds2 has to offer.

so i have no clue if im going to ever finish them, which is a shame because i do really want to. blue smelter demon at least is a great fight, and id love to be able to kill him, i just hate dying 10 times each attempt trying to get to him. oh and as for darklurker, hes going to be my very last run in the entire game, because you need the effigies to attempt his fight, of which i have like 4 rn, plus i have to abandon the Coc, so yeah. finishing him will be me finishing the run completely and im not there quite yet, but honestly idk when ill fiinish the dlc stuff so i just wanted to get this out there. i technicially beat ds2 sl1 in coc, so yeah. feels good to finally be able to say that.

as far as difficulty goes, id definitely say this is more difficult than ds1 or demon souls. im not sure how id compare it to ds3. base game, ds3 might be harder, but with dlc id say 2 is probably harder based on my run through of ds3, although thats mostly due to bullshit areas like iron passage and the run to some dlc bosses moreso than the actual bosses themselves which is disappointing. if anyone bothered to read this through, i hope you enjoyed reading about my experience. gg until next time.

And all of without farming a single red phantom NPC. Its not the greatest feat i know, but seeing with my own eyes how some non BoB PVP covenants are fairly active to this day makes me full of joy. Rejoice fellow bell keepers!

    The legend of General Cox

A wonderful bond is established between two weary travelers where through blood, sweat and a nail-biting conclusion, a legend is born. Long live General Cox.
