Reminds me of Edge of Tomorrow Posted: 14 Jan 2021 10:58 PM PST You start out just a total loser and you keep dying and going back and doing it over and over and you get better and start making progress and eventually you just become one of those no death/no hit marathon speed runners that just blow through every area and boss fight like they know what the bad guys will do before they do. To the Guy who kept invading me while trying to do O & S Posted: 14 Jan 2021 03:00 PM PST You were honorable. When you noticed a Knight was attacking me and decided to wait until it was dead before we continued our fight. It was a good fight and I enjoyed it, your demon spear taught me that you can back stab with a spear... something I did not know. I lost my humanity to you but you did earn it, we had a good fight. However, I feel you got the rough end of the stick with the next 2 invasions. I had summoned help for the O&S fight, Nook killed you and I was able to reclaim my Humanity that was stolen..Sadly, we wiped on the O&S fight, so you got a second chance to get some payback. You invaded again, this time you didn't wait for me to kill the knight and started the fight right away..I learned my lesson and summoned help the moment I seen the soapsign in the bon fire room, you invaded as I touched it. Thanks for that second glorious chunk of humanity, we beat O & S and I was no longer around :) From the guy with the Halberd and Havals armour. You made my night :D EDIT: Thanks so much for the reward!! [link] [comments] |
Siegmeyer... What have I done!? My tale of woe and regret Posted: 14 Jan 2021 03:08 PM PST Before starting Dark Souls, I remember seeing a post that included some vague tips for beginners. Things with no other context like, "kill the dogs first." Well, in this fateful list was a tip to "kick him off the ledge". Grand! So, I kept an ever-watching eye on any characters that happened to be near a drop. There was one in particular, a gold-clad lad who gave off some serious Yurt energy. He also sat near a ledge at one point, but he seemed too far away from the dropoff to the unknown. "Surely if I kick him, he will end me," I thought. So I let him be. Then I found my way to Sen's fortress, and after navigating through many a perilous trap, I found him. A rather rotund knight, sitting on a ledge with his legs dangling carelessly. When I spoke to him, he just spat back a lifeless "....hmmm?" Here he was, the ledge-stalker I had been warned about. With a powerful push with my dusty, bloody boot, I sent the onion-shaped knight tumbling to his grisly demise. Siegmeyer of Catarina . . . I was a fool! 10/10 game. I will right my wrongs in NG+ [link] [comments] |

Posted: 14 Jan 2021 04:01 AM PST What in Gods good name is up with this game? Last night I lost 25k souls in Blight Town, after slaying the Gaping Dragon. I then uninstalled the game, and swore never to play it again (3rd or 4th ragequit, lol). Now I'm installing it again... just to try a new approach. Wtf is this black magic?! /endrant Edit: Thanks for all the great comments. This community really lives up to its name! P.S. Blighttown is a silly place. Green and silly. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Jan 2021 05:42 PM PST So I'm sure you've seen this same post about 500 times per day, but I thought I'd risk angering everyone and posting anyway... Apologies in advance! I first tried Dark Souls back when DS3 was released and I wasn't great at it (some might say ghastly). I somehow got as far as The Abyss Watchers and just couldn't do it. I uninstalled it and moved on to something else (probably played The Witcher 3 again). I even dabbled in Bloodborne a bit before that and was also dreadful. However I always felt like I had unfinished business with DS3 / DS as a whole and whenever this series cropped up in conversation or something I just felt bad and that I needed to go back, but the thought of it stressed me out. Fast forward 4 years and I decided to buy it again for PC and have one last crack at it... I decided this time I needed to take everything in and fully understand the gear and how it all fits together and ended up fully addicted to it over the holiday period. I can happily say that as of tonight I've finished the main questline, defeated all the optional bosses and have also bought the Season Pass! I have officially fell in love with this franchise. I was also so worried about The Nameless King and it was definitely a big challenge, but after 2 hours I finally did it. Apologies again for this long ass post, but all my mates are playing Destiny 2 and my oldest brother is still bitter about his experience with the original Demon Souls. Anyway, if you've gotten this far - thanks for reading! I'll be definitely going back to play DS1 & 2 [link] [comments] |
I just finished Dark Souls for the first time. Posted: 14 Jan 2021 10:42 PM PST And now I'm on the hunt for the platinum. 11 trophies away, mostly gathering covenants. My first souls game was DS3, which I didn't finish (ADHD is a bitch). But something kept calling me back to Lordran. I'm so in love with this game. The combat, the lore, the aesthetics, and especially going from a complete novice, to someone my friends want to summon in to help with bosses. Sometimes I'll fire the game up and not even really do anything, just go exploring to see if I missed anything fun. So once I'm done with the platinum, I've got 2, 3, and BB waiting on me. Made it to Blighttown for the first time... Posted: 14 Jan 2021 07:30 PM PST Saw this guy, then calmly walked back to my bonfire and turned the fucking game off. [link] [comments] |
Who are all the bosses you look forward to every playthrough? Posted: 14 Jan 2021 07:56 PM PST Y'know, we all have certain bosses that are just minor roadblocks to get to the parts we wanna get to, and others that we actually enjoy fighting again, and are basically the reason we replay the game. For me it's probably Bell Gargoyles, Quelaag, Iron Golem, O&S, Gwyn, and all the DLC bosses. If it weren't for DLC I'd probably stop every run after Lordvessel, I don't really care for the Lord Soul bosses. And yeah I know Iron Golem isn't all that great but it's just fun to see if I can make him fall off sometimes. Edit: forgot to add, I think Gwyndolin is also an enjoyable fight, though quite different to the others. [link] [comments] |
I finally beat O & S! - a story about a first-timer's alternative path Posted: 14 Jan 2021 01:44 PM PST A little story about my first souls game experience. I'm not too good at video games, but I really liked Hollow Knight, and many ppl compared it to Dark Souls. I bought DaS remaster about a year ago for the switch because it was on sale at my local store, but I just put it on the shelf; I played other games because I knew it requires a lot of dedication. Then finally I decided to start it. I read some spoiler-free beginner guides. I rang the first bell, and I was not sure exactly where to go. I wandered around and accidentally opened the shortcut through The Valley of the Drakes. I didn't know it was a shortcut. It seemed weird, but there is a lot of weird stuff happening in this game, so I let it go :D. I was in Blighttown and I knew that's the place where the other bell is. After a lot of struggling, I managed to get to Anor Londo at level 40 with a +5 Battle Axe. It was really hard, but I enjoyed the challenge, and I played pacifist a lot of times. I get to Ornstein and Smough, and they were really, really, really hard. The best thing that I could do was to half hp-ing one of them in the first phase. It was tough, so I checked for tips in this sub, and I tried everything, but nothing worked. So I felt that I'm either terrible at Dark Souls or I'm really underpowered, so I decided to watch a walkthrough video of how others reach Anor Londo. When the guy on the video went to the Depths, I was surprised that I've never seen that area before. I went back to Anor Londo, I got and upgraded Quelaag's furysword, leveled up to 50 mostly on silver knights, and after 30 or so tries... I could finally beat those bastards! It was the hardest boss fight in my life, and it feels so good that I could beat them! The thing about "this game does not hold your hand" is so real and so good! TLDR; Do not use the master key on your first playthrough; O & S are tough; Don't you dare go hollow :D [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Jan 2021 06:14 PM PST I finished the fight with Artorias today, and I can honestly say, that was the most incredible boss fight I've had in a long time. There have been bosses that impressed me more, (mostly from loving lore in game, or the boss being so truly evil it felt good to beat them, etc.) But this was almost undoubtedly one of the hardest, most satisfying, down to earth boss fights I've ever had. It wasn't overdone, it was perfect. It was a all powerful knight at his weakest, versus a normal man at his strongest. And even then he can take you and mop the arena with your pitiful body, if you don't dodge every single attack. Knowing that this insanely powerful man, at his weakest, is still even stronger than you, is incredible. It's so thrilling, knowing a single hit can almost kill you, and that you must dodge all of them, perfectly, and follow up every attack. His insane roars bellowing as you drink your last sip from your flask, hoping you can get a few more hits in. And it's not like you are fighting some huge monster, or dragon, or stone golem, no you are fighting a man. A man clad in armor and bearing a sword, just as you are yourself. It was the closest thing to perfection I've ever felt in a boss fight. Everything was synchronized, everything was harmonious, every swing of the sword was perfect. I've fought him maybe 15 times, and you want to know what's really crazy? I enjoyed every one. Usually if I try that many times I get bored or frustrated. But on this boss, it was a joy. I think I would play the game over just to fight him again, to engage in glorious battle with him. Farewell Artorias, may you hear every praise the sun, and may you finally have peace, I hope you and Sif are together wherever you may be. [link] [comments] |
Question about summons/invading on PC Posted: 15 Jan 2021 02:27 AM PST I'd like to get more into the PvP side of things now that I've only got Gwyn to fight to finish the game, and I have a few questions. I'm on PC, playing the Prepare to Die edition.

For whatever reason, I can’t bring myself to do any sort of magic build in these games Posted: 14 Jan 2021 07:54 AM PST I know there's a lot of cool shit in those builds, but I just haven't been able to stick with one. I've tried a sorcerer both in DS1 and DS3 and stopped a quarter into the game. My monkey brain just wants to hit everything rather than use ranged options, I prefer consistent damage over temporary buffs and exploiting elemental weaknesses, and I've never found a need for any of the utility spells (healing included). I keep hearing shit about how broken sorcery is, or how cleric knight is the most fun build in a Souls game, or about all the cool explody pyro spells. It feels better for me just to get a simple weapon with a moveset I like, be like "alright A in strength so I'll level strength" and that's all I need to keep in mind. Rather than "ah yes the Galactic Starspear a tier 2 covenant reward, scales with 3 different stats and has a high requirement in the one it doesn't scale with for no reason, and even though it's mostly a faith weapon you buff it with crystal magic, and its R2 shoots out heat seeking missiles but also drains your health, and it's super op the entire game except this one entire area and like all of the DLC, and if you build everything juuust right, it'll do 7 more damage than this early game tree branch." I know that's just a dumb exaggeration lol, but that's how it feels sometimes. I'm like, really closed minded when it comes to magic. [link] [comments] |
To be honest I kinda enjoy tomb of the giants Posted: 14 Jan 2021 06:28 PM PST I kinda like how it keeps you on your toes constantly especially if you have a high soul count. It's just fun going around the corner and having to hope you won't get fucked by a dog or a big dude [link] [comments] |
yesyesyesnono in Darkroot Basin Posted: 14 Jan 2021 03:02 PM PST I decided to go past the stone guy after killing the gargoyles, and found myself in Darkroot Basin. I went to the bottom, and found the Black Halberd Knight there. I was using a +5 Zweihander, and I fucking pummeled him twice with the pancake overhand. I was gearing up to do it again, and he fell off the cliff. I got his halberd, a blue titanite... and then fell off the cliff. I also can't use the Halberd. Oh well. [link] [comments] |
I’m currently stuck in some sewer with a crap ton of rat crap....and rats Posted: 14 Jan 2021 09:37 PM PST Is there a bonfire in this awful place? I was feeling pretty good after finally being able to wield my black knight sword that I've had forever but couldn't use. I went on a boss killing spree and wiped out both gargoyles and the Capra demon without going hollow but then I decided to use the key to the depths and see what there is to see down there. I made a stupid mistake and got killed by the butcher guy after just killing several bosses (thought I was invincible 😣). Anyway I thought that I wouldn't have anything to lose so I decided to try to reclaim the little bit of souls I lost (I upgraded after Capra and didn't have much left over) but I forgot to get additional flowers to cure poison and I totally wasn't expecting the rats and poison frogs.... I would like to escape with my souls (about 25k now) but I'm hopelessly lost and down to three estus flasks. TLDR: I'm wandering around in this sewer currently sitting on like 25,000 souls and I can't find an escape after I fell down some kind of water hole thing. Is there anything I should look for? Is there a bonfire down here? Is there a way I can get back without messing with that giant rat? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Jan 2021 02:45 PM PST The crusade continues, as our claymore wielding holy man strolls into Sen's. And my god, was it punishing. Since I'm lucky, both snake bastards aggro'd at once, forcing me to circle like a madman to not get swiped to pieces in my Elite Knight Armour. This was not my biggest trouble though. That honour goes to the first bridge. Yep, you read that right. The first bridge. You see, I don't know how many of you have fallen onto that area with three of the lightning throwing Gwyn wannabes, but never again. Only after chugging all my estus did I live through that, only to have to trek over past the demons to the ladders. I found the illusory wall. I did not like the result. Nobody told me about that FUCKING GIANT. Sure, he died eventually but he ate my health like it was a bag of shredded cheese at 2am on a Saturday morning. Most of Sen's from there onwards was as you'd expect. Short, sharp and WOULD THAT FUCKING BALDER KNIGHT ON THAT USELESS PATH PLEASE DIE?? Aside from these small hitches however, the iron golem was smooth sailing. I like to think that as the last lightning bolt hit his face he converted to my ungodly religion of fire, lightning, sorcery and Siegmeyer. (Backstory, last playthrough I accidentally killed Sieg in Anor Londo and almost cried and promised I'd do better. His death and Sif's are the only ones I regret.) I touched the ring of light, and those gargoyle batwing dodging fucks who hit through your shield carried me to Anor Londo, ready to absolutely fucking die. But since I'm still stuck at the archers, thank you to the archer who isn't meant to be able to hit me but still does, that will have to wait for another episode. Thank you for reading and don't you dare go hollow. [link] [comments] |
Just finished a Crossbow only run Posted: 14 Jan 2021 02:43 PM PST This time I tried a crossbow only-ish run. I say -ish because until you get the light-crossbow you need to use a weapon, and also in case I died in an area, mostly early game, I just went with my weapon to grab my souls. Same while I was doing the initial setup, like killing the black knights in Undeadburg, or Darkroot Garden to get the titanite. Once I got my +15 crossbow, then I went crossbow only I think most of the time, not sure I used a weapon once I got that... anyway, some observations: The Light Crossbow was pretty much my preferred crossbow for most of the run. As I said earlier, I did the New Londo dance to get the Very Large Ember early, and also killed Capra to get the Large Ember, then I farmed until I got +15 (by killing Stray Demon, etc). The Sniper crossbow even when I brought it to lightning +14, it was mostly useless, and even too slow. I tried to cheese the Hydra from above the ladder... yeah good luck. Aiming with a crossbow is almost impossible. The +14 Avelyn though... that did some serious damage with RTSR on, it one shots the Darkwraiths in New Londo if you wanna farm Titanites to name an example. About playing with the crossbow in general, it's just too slow between shot & reloading. The rafters in Anor Londo are really hard to do no-hit. Of course if you wanna tank some attacks with your shield, they are kinda trivial. The rest of the areas, like Sen's Fortress, if you know the speedrun path, they are simple, if you have to kill enemies with a crossbow and no RTSR, you probably need more patience than I have. About bosses, a +15 crossbow of course melts Taurus Demon and Gargoyles. DARK SOULS™ REMASTERED Taurus Demon Crossbow Only - YouTube Capra even with a +5 is rather easy, because the crossbow is super effective against dogs! So next time you fight Capra, bring a crossbow, run to the door arch above the stairs, roll Capra attacks, and just one shot the dogs. Rather easy. The hardest boss was Four Kings, because even with the +14 Avelyn, your damage is quite low, so you'll end up fighting multiple kings at a time: DARK SOULS™ REMASTERED Four Kings Crossbow Only - YouTube Gwyn was much easier than with Bow only, because you have more damage per shot: DARK SOULS™ REMASTERED Gwyn Crossbow Only - YouTube If you wanna see how clearing an area works with the crossbow, here's Demon Ruins: DARK SOULS™ REMASTERED Demon Ruins Crossbow Only - YouTube About bolts: they are so damn expensive early game, at 100 souls each for the heavy ones. The good side is that since you almost don't need levels for the crossbow, you'll spend most of your souls on ammo, so that's fine. Also whenever you have extra souls, invest in stamina, you'll need it to run away from Four Kings' magic attack. So overall, I enjoyed the playthrough, but not as much as playing bow only. Posted: 14 Jan 2021 06:34 PM PST Man does anyone else love this song? I played Dark Souls Remastered twice, I even got the platinum during that time. I plan on playing this game again because I enjoy it so much but this song is so great. Especially when he sings "If only I could be so grossly incandescent." Really gives me chills. Can I use the occult club to permanently kill the skeletons in the Catacombs? Posted: 15 Jan 2021 02:04 AM PST I read that occult is an ascension path of a Divine weapon. Does it keep the property of permanently killing the revivable skeletons? EDIT: Thanks for the help! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 15 Jan 2021 02:03 AM PST Hello there. Just began playing yesterday (remastered version, kbd+mouse) and i need some help with my damage. Started playing as a warrior and am using a katana like sword. (found a talking skeleton early and i tought i can skip his dialogue with a mouse click but i accidentally attacked him and he becamse hostile but he dropped a sword and now i'm using that). Reached the bell, killed the two gargoyles, everything fine. Then i went through the tunnel near the blacksmith finding a headless, legless thing blocking my way out. I think i was doing decent enough damage till now since the minotaur and the gargoyles went down pretty fast but on this thing i was doing ~25 damage with every hit. Made me very frustrated i died at least 15 times but got him down eventually. Then I continued my path through a forest when i found these statue warrios and now i am doing 10! damage with each hit on them. I have no idea wheter i am somewhere i am not supposed to be or did i missed some weapons on the way or it is intended to do less damage as you progress to prolong the fights or did i leveled up my character in the wrong way. On lups i put points into dex/str to match the sword req the rest went into vitality and endurance evenly. Currently at level 22. Please help without too much spoilers. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Four Things I Noticed Returning to Lordran Posted: 14 Jan 2021 04:09 PM PST I'm playing through again, trying out a faith build for the first time, and I just wanted to share four things that were new to me this run.
Man, I just really enjoy how this game keeps on giving. This is at least my seventh time through Dark Souls it's crazy how just switching builds gives you a whole new perspective on the game. What have you seen going back through which you hadn't noticed before? [link] [comments] |
