Over three years ago I set out to rate every enemy in Dark Souls. It's been a while, but here's my rating of the last couple of enemies in Undead Parish.

It's been a wild year (and a half) but I figured I'd start up my old series where I rate every enemy in Dark Souls. The old series was fairly well received here, so I hope this latest installment brings you some joy here in the final days of 2020. Happy New Year!

P.S. The old videos can be found in this playlist.

    This community is wild

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 06:36 PM PST

Had a sunlight phantom help me from the beginning of township all the way to Manus. Then the next guy invades me killing me in 5 hits with a tracer build and spams point down, going so far as to msg me afterwards to brag about his easy kill.

This community is an absolute rollercoaster.

SL1 NG+6 no rolling, no blocking, no parrying, no RTSR All bosses done

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 07:12 PM PST

This playthrough is finally done. RTSR isn't used in the run because using RTSR on NG+6 is basically the same as base NG without RTSR, showing how broken ds1 RTSR really is. NG+6 is the highest new game cycle for ds1 unlike ds2 and ds3 where it is NG+7. All kills are flawless.

    The easy fights:

Asylum Demon - Dies in 10 seconds

Taurus Demon - Easy fight, the most annoying bit is the archers

Gargoyles - Very little challenge as they stagger in 2 hits

Quelaag - Nothing too special, jump is annoying

    Ceaseless Discharge - Cheese

Capra Demon - The dogs and tiny arena make this one of the most annoying fights for no roll, especially with no concealment rings

    Gaping Dragon - Easy fight

    Stray Demon - Silly Reskin

    Pinwheel - Still a joke

Iron Golem - The back jump is slightly annoying, but again nothing special

Gwyndolin - Chasing a trap down a hallway simulator

Crossbreed Priscilla - 2 hit stagger, then just rotate

Firesage Demon - Silly reskin number 2

Seath - Not much to say

Centipede Demon - The screen shaking and lag is a bigger boss than the boss

Sif - This took some time, the hops are annoying but avoidable

Bed of Chaos - Mild pain

Nito - Another fight really annoying with no concealment rings

Moonlight Butterfly - Theres a strategy that uses a gesture to dodge everything, but it makes the fight a joke so it isnt used, stamina regen equipment is a blessing

Sanctuary Guardian - Easiest DLC boss by far

Gwyn - BONK BONK BONK BONK BONK BONK BONK BONK BONK BONK BONK BONK

    The hard fights

Orestein and Smough - This took me 3 days, 3 times i killed orestein then smough killed me before p2 started and i had one fail to p2 itself. The fight is a janky mess but consistent. Never want to do this again

Artorias - A moderately fun no roll fight. Its very annoying when he just wanders off in a random direction the insta flips. Multiple flips in a row can be dodged with good positioning.

Manus - This is RNG. He can run up to you at any point and staff slam and you die (which happened about 3 times when i was close). If you are VERY lucky he will sometimes miss. The only skill based dodged is the shotgun in p2 as no silver pendant is used.

Kalameet - Another somewhat RNG fight. The double spin attack can be dodged if you get VERY lucky with the terrain or you are on his side, most of the time u are on the front though so most of the time it is death. The terrain really messes with this fight and the walls are a pain to deal with. Otherwise a good fight.

Four Kings - This one was annoying. I had to buy re master to do this one boss as the horizontal dodge on PTDE is heavily inconsistent. I practiced for 12 hours on PTDE and didnt get the horizontal dodge once, i played re master for literally 5 mins on stream and got the dodge.

Something i didnt even realize i was taking for granted until now (spoilers)

    Posted: 31 Dec 2020 12:14 AM PST

So this is my first playthrough and i never really thought about how comforting the bonfires really feel until after the firekeeper was killed and i couldnt light the bonfire in the shrine anymore. After that event i was shocked and the entire place felt immediately less homey and i honestly just didnt wanna be there much after that. even tho i knew it was safe it was just...uncomfortable without the bonfire there somehow. its hard to explain.

then i got revenge on lautrec, gave the firekeeper her soul back, heard the familiar sound of the fire reigniting above me, and felt myself relax again. all was right once more. idk before that moment i was always relieved to find bonfires in the game of course, but i never really stopped to think about how safe and homey they really make you feel. especially at firelink. just something i thought about to myself that i thought id share

Believe it or not but Bell Gargoyles knocked me off the cathedral way more times than any other boss in the game killed me

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 09:22 PM PST

I swear it's TRUE! They knocked me off the building way more times than I died to O&S and Manus whom are considered some of the hardest bosses in the game. Still a good and underrated boss.

Why do i randomly catch fire?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2020 02:46 AM PST

Sometimes when I'm running around killing stuff just playing normally, it'll make the bonfire noise and then I'll see something that looks like embers come to me and I will gain an extra Estus. Does anybody know what causes this?

    Got my platinum in DSR!

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 07:13 AM PST

I've done it! After Bloodborne my second From game I got my platinum for.

Started 5 weeks ago playing DSR for the first time as a Warrior. After finishing the game I wanted to do a playthrough as a Scorcerer. After finishing that I looked into the trophylist and decided to go for it.

Was easier then I thougt to be honest. I think Bloodborne was much harder to achieve. Probably because being a Scorcerer feels so OP.

What's next? I still have Dark Souls 2 and 3 loaded on my playstation. But I'm so addicted to this game I decided to start a new playthrough focused on Faith.

Dark Souls is amazing. Definitely in my top 10 of best games I've ever played. Being someone gaming for almost 30 years, that means something.

How NOT to activate RTSR in Demon Centipede room.

    Posted: 31 Dec 2020 02:38 AM PST

Roll a new character. Choose the Sorcerer class. Never level up VIT. Equip RTSR. Equip Dusk Crown Ring. Have the bright idea of walking on lava to activate RTSR. Instantly die from lava damage.

I'm sorry Mr. Lava I shouldn't have underestimated your damage :(

    Why does everyone hate Blighttown?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 10:33 PM PST

Im playing through DsR for the first time and I was pleasently surprised at how simple Blighttown was. I heard so much hate about it from all over the community, but I found the enemies and traps simple to deal with and the swamp not that bad. Didnt die once on the elevator, enemies were easy to juke, mosquitos died in one shot, only real problem was the toxic dart blowers but they stayed dead after dyeing. I kinda had fun with it, so I guess I just dont get why everyone hates the place?

    Tips and tricks

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 08:59 PM PST

I'm just now getting into the dark souls games starting with dark souls remastered on my switch I would like some tips on my pyromancer build and have some advice on how to make it more powerful. Should I do dex or strength? Atunement or not and some combat tips on how to find the parry windows easier bc I'm having a difficult time with the spear hallow soldiers in the undead burg.

Why Are Giants Hated Throughout The Series?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2020 04:07 AM PST

Why do humans hate giants in Dark Souls 2, and Dark Souls 3? I don't know if I'm missing something in lore, but in Yhorms lore humans hated him because he was a giant. Was there something giants did in the Dark Soul lore that messed humans up really badly or something to deserve this distaste towards giants? I know in Dark Souls 2 the giants invaded because Vendrick attacked their land. But why does everyone hate giants?

Can You Beat Dark Souls with only Fist Weapons? (video)

    Posted: 31 Dec 2020 04:05 AM PST

    Hello, fellow undead.

Sorry if this is considered spammy, but I'm a challenge runner who usually plays Salt and Sanctuary and who gave Dark Souls a try (it's been a few years). If you have any interest in ending the year watching someone strugglebus through the game with their fists, I'd really appreciate it if you stopped by. Thank you!

What to do before killing Gwyn

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 08:32 PM PST

I have worked my way to Gwyn and am currently farming the black knights for their weapons and chunks. I have read once I kill Gwyn the game restarts. Anything I should do before killing him if I am planning to move in to NG+? I have my estus at +6. Thanks.

A bit of my Dark Souls Experience

    Posted: 31 Dec 2020 03:55 AM PST

I know I'm a little late to the party here, but during 2020, I've played Dark Souls 1, 2, and 3. I've reached NG+3 on Dark Souls (Remastered), I'm completing the second to last DLC for DS2 before I NG+, and I'm very new to DS3.

I've had a friend with me along the way, almost entirely. In dark souls 1, he taught me everything from how to get the ring of favor and protection by throwing Lautrec off a cliff, to telling me how badass the skeleton key burial gift is just so he could send me blindly into Havel's lair. We beat every boss together, he taught me where to grind for specific materials, and where to get embers for blacksmiths. How to get a Zweihander and that making it Chaos infused was meta, everything. We had an amazing time and bonded over the game.

Then, we both played Dark Souls 2 for the first time. We were both fresh off the boat, so to speak, and we've adventured the entire game together, learning to POWERSTANCE sometime while exploring Eleum Loyce completely on accident, and learning that the best strategy to kill Sir Alonne really WAS to summon as many phantoms as possible.

And on Dark Souls three that bastard invaded me as a mad spirit and slaughtered me. Other than that, it's been fun. It's been over a month since we played Dark Souls together, and tonight I picked up Dark Souls 3 once more.

After a solid three attempts, and easily over 10 minutes just REACHING the boss thanks to being rusty and relearning controls, for the first time in dark souls, and dark souls 3, I beat a boss without ANY outside help. That first boss, was the Curse-Rotted Greatwood. My friend even helped me with Pinwheel, though admittedly Pinwheel IS the notoriously hardest boss in the souls series. Regardless, despite the fact that it too me nearly an hour to kill what is probably going to be the easiest boss in DSIII, I felt absolute pure joy, the kind of which only a souls game can bring. I let out a real, genuine laugh for almost a minute because I was so happy to have finally beaten the boss, after taking so long not only to learn where to hit him, but how to avoid the powerful second stage hand attacks he has.

I felt genuine pride at my accomplishment, which is something I haven't felt in a long time. Overall, while this story is very barebones and not that entertaining to read, I'm sure... THIS is why I play Dark Souls. Despite the fact this game will kick your dick into the dirt time and time again, when you finally overcome that obstacle that's holding you back, it's something you can genuinely be proud of. And that's fucking special, more so than it gets credit for.

Is there a way to move faster with heavier weapons?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 11:30 PM PST

I finally got enough strength and dexterity to wield the Black Knight Greatsword. I figured the swing itself would take longer than the weapons I've been wielding till now but I underestimated how much slower my general movements would be, even outside of combat. I really love this sword as an homage to Berserk but if someone has any tips on how to move faster with it I'd be really grateful.

I find it extremely difficult to beat the first boss.

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 11:19 PM PST

I find it extremely difficult to defeat the first boss of this game. I am playing as a pyromancer. I have both axe and shield. I am hitting heavy attacks and still am unable to beat them boss. Is it because I am playing using keyboard and not joystick? I am not really sure how I am gonna fair with other bosses when I am struggling with first boss.

Hidden Body + Slumbering Dragoncrest Ring

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 07:51 AM PST

Discovering this sneaky combo has got to be the single biggest quality-of-life change in the game. As much as people post about struggling with the Anor Lando archers, I'm shocked I haven't seen this recommended. The left archer will never even see you, and the right one won't aggro til you're upon him.

It is also crazy helpful for reaching certain bosses quickly and safely, namely O&S and Pinwheel.

I'm sure some ppl consider this an easy mode strat but idgaf, just wanted to take a moment to appreciate this generous inclusion.
