Elemental defences for all bosses in DS2

    Posted: 14 Jan 2021 11:05 AM PST

IMPORTANT NOTE: The crazy numbers in the DLCs are ONLY FOR SPELL AND CONSUMABLE DAMAGE.

That's why the color coding is important. For weapons with innate elemental damage, infused weapons and buffed weapons, the resistances are in the same range as in the base game. So, if in the base game grey represents 30.0% defence, in the DLCs grey colored defences will represent 30.0% defence, when, again, using buffed or infused weapons

I'm sorry if the sheet isn't too clean, but this is the only way I found to upload spreadsheets, so I had to give up aesthetic for it to be useful

Just beat the game! 5 things I loved

    Posted: 14 Jan 2021 09:58 AM PST

We all know this game has been critically evaluated to death, so I wanted to share my experience without hopefully going over the same old talking points.

Some context: I'm playing through the souls games in order, and I just finished DS2. I haven't done the DLC's yet, I'm planning on starting a new run for that. I played probably 90% blind. Without wasting any more of your time, here are 5 things I loved in this game, in no particular order.

    1. Giant memories - This is fresh on my mind, since I just finished them, but this was a very different experience from the rest of the game. Running through these battles just trying not to get smashed is really interesting. And I don't get deep into the lore, but it's fun to see the world before it was completely decayed.
    2. Bosses - Sure, some bosses are pushovers, but in general I thought the quality was really high. There's no bed of chaos equivalent at least. I think "guy in armor" fights are really fun, and outside of those there's a good variety.
    3. Torches/Dark areas - I never came close to running out of torch time, but I still thought this was a cool concept. You can trade your defense for better lighting, and make permanent progress by lighting sconces along the way. Also, the lighting effects just look really good. Darkdwellers are my favorite creepy creature in the game, and the torch casting a huge shadow of them really amplifies it.
    4. Non-linear structure - The ability to choose different paths in the beginning and easily go back if it turns out to be too hard is an interesting change from the first game. I discovered this a little late, and went from the last giant straight to pursuer -> gargoyles -> ruin sentinels -> lost sinner, skipping the tower of flame and no mans wharf. This was the hardest stretch of the game. It was a big surprise to go through those areas later and realize I'd made things way harder for myself. Oh well, the joys of playing blind!
    5. Fashion - There are tons of cool outfits and weapons, and they just look better than the first game. I finished with the Forlorn set, dark mask, and butchers knife. Really awesome IMO.

Bonus: Aldia exploding out of bonfires is scary, funny, and weird all at once.

    I hope you enjoyed!

    Brightstone Cove

    Posted: 14 Jan 2021 02:07 PM PST

I'm playing the SotFS version, and currently in Brightstone Cove. I happen to notice an area directly under Mild-Mannered Pate's house where he and the other guy fight. Is there a way to get to that area?

    My pc crash actually helped

    Posted: 14 Jan 2021 01:50 PM PST

So lets go from the start. I bought dark souls 2 sotfs on pc like 4 days ago. I already played it on x box 360 but i really wanted to play multiplayer and also DLCs. I bought the game, and as i tested it it worked fine. On the other day i launched the game and after i tried to go throght first fog gate my pc just shut down and immediately turned on. This is happening always, but sometimes it reboots after 4 minutes of playing, sometimes 2 hours. I cant find a way how to solve this problem. But, today as i was trying to play it worked fine, so i decided to go kill last giant. I went into the boss room and smacked his ass. After killing him i wanted to go back to bonfire. When i was returning to a bonfire next to the doors with fire lizards my pc turned off. When i finally turned the game on i was very suprised. I was standing in front of a boss room, but the fog was there ! And most strange thing was that souls, key and also boss soul, everything stayed in my inventory. I didnt had time to try but i am pretty sure that i will have a chance to fight that boss again, suprising without bonfire ascethic. Finally bug that gives help hand xD. Has this ever happened to you ?

    Best weapon for sorcery build

    Posted: 14 Jan 2021 03:47 AM PST

I'm currently SL145 in my first playthrough and have 50 INT, 40 ATT and 20 FTH and around 16-18 STR and DEX.

I'm currently in the Crown of the Sunken King (first DLC and just after I gave up trying to kill Vendrick cos I kept dying) and my magic staff of wisdom +5 is barely doing enough damage. Takes 4-5 great heavy soul arrows to kill enemies at the first bonfire. I have the magic mace +10 and it's slightly better but still a slog to kill one enemy. I know most enemies in the DLC are resistant to elemental damage so I need to find another melee weapon.

What's the best weapon that you think will go with my current stats?

    Fred

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 06:06 PM PST

This post is for Fred, the absolute legend playing scholar of the first sin on Xbox 1 in the iron keep. I'm playing this game for the first time and had already lost 80 thousand souls to this area, but you put a summon sign down at the bonfire and helped me kill the smelter demon and it just made this whole experience that much better.

    Thank you ❤️

Help me decide if i should revisit Ds2 softs or not

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 06:34 PM PST

My wife was one of the lucky ones to get a ps5 and surprised me by getting demons souls remake straight away. She got gud enough to solo the game on a no magic character. Then we played through dark souls remastered ps4 side by side with some coop here and there and all she has left now is Gwyn...

But now that I've replayed dark souls 1... i think you see where this is going now. Ive got an itch.

I had co-oped blind through softs with my brother around 4 years ago and I personally remember ultimately having a great time. Except fume knight. Just screw that guy. I remember loving some of the levels, especially the earlier ones. Bonfire ascetics are cool. Dark magic. Some really good aesthetic zones for my taste.

But i also remember the bad parts. ADP doesn't feel fun to level for me. I still have terror flashbacks to shrine of amana. Branches and pharros keys were frustrating. The movement and combat has just the wrong amount of jank that it calls attention to itself far too often.

So convince me either way. Should i play again, why, and if so what build (heavy lightning tank last time)? Or should i just skip to 3 or mess around on 1 again?

PS: Recently platted both Demons and Sekiro, and have no intention of playing Bloodborne until 60 fps patch or release so please lets focus on the merits of ds2.

    2nd vs 3rd dragon ring

    Posted: 14 Jan 2021 04:10 AM PST

Is the third dragon ring worth it? The stamina and equip load increase is tiny (only 25%) in comparison to the 1st->2nd upgrade where it gets freakin' doubled! The health increase is also a little bit smaller. Yet, the durability loss is the same with every upgrade.

I'm mostly talking about PvP here, so durability doesn't matter THAT much, but I still had my 2nd ring get at risk before. So what do you think? Should I just stay at the 2nd ring or take the slight improvement but lower durability of the 3rd?

How to do the Poke attack with Halberd? (K&M)

    Posted: 14 Jan 2021 03:29 AM PST

I am on PC. I know all move-sets of the halberd except the Poking attack. i have set my controls to JUST like Dark Souls 1. I never knew the poking attack of DS1 either. I would be glad to know DS1 poke attack key as well.

    Reminder - Keyboard and Mouse

    I came back for you...

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 07:26 PM PST

I made a post here back in November about how DS2 forced me to realize that it was okay to decide not to do something if I wasn't having fun. The game had overstayed its welcome for me, to the point that instead of being happy that the DLC was more of a challenge, I was just frustrated that it would now take me that much longer to put the game down.

After a few wipes on the grave robber trio I was so fed up with REACHING the boss that I decided I wanted no part of it. I was done. I went on to beat all of Old Iron King, beat Ivory King but completely ignored the Frigid Outskirts, and beat the game with only Darklurker left alive (I was done with the game, I died once in one of the dark caverns and just decided it wasn't worth it.

I was okay with the decision and still am. Since then I went on to fully clear Dark Souls 3, DLC and all... and now all that was left of the series were those last 3 bosses in DS2.

Today I finally decided to go back and give them a try. After taking some time to get used to coming back to DS2 from 3, I managed to take out the grave robber trio that caused me to give up in the first place.

It felt good, I had now beaten every boss I had challenged in the series... maybe I would go on to clear the final 2 after all...

Then I spent an hour in the Frigid Outskirts and Uninstalled the game.

(Okay I was always intending to uninstall it when I was finished, and I'll still pick it up again one day, but frigid outskirts really did make me decide that I didn't want to try and continue)

ds2 what tank build is better?

    Posted: 14 Jan 2021 01:42 AM PST

I'm the endgame of ds2 with a friend and we're around the insane level of 200. He's powerstancing ultra greatswords but that makes him very squishy. To make up for that I thought of becoming a tank with the redeye ring.

One is a pure strenght build with the chariot's greatlance and havels greatshield.

Armor is mostly cyan armor at lvl 10

    hp 2171

    stam 168

    ar 403

    str 50

    -------------------------------------------------------

The other one is a lighting build with lighting heide greatlance, the tower shield and 3 spellslots for miracles.

Armor is cyan around level 7

    hp 1984

    stam 157

    ar 516

    fth 50

The pure strenght build has higher hp and endurance by 10 points but a 100 lower ar.

The lightning build also has support and offensive miracles but with only 16 attunement I have a casting speed of 77 and not to many uses.

The strenght build also has havels greatshield which is quite a lot better in elemental resistances than the tower shield, but the investment in faith does give me around 100 more fire and lightning defence with the lightning build but around 30 less physical defence due to lesser upgraded armor.

So do you think the higher ar and utility is worth the lesser tanking ability?
