Posted: 09 Jan 2021 08:19 PM PST It took about an hour and many deaths (fuck that goddamn hammer to oblivion and back) but I finally got it by basically circling around him with target lock on and chain backstabbing him, which is something I'm still learning. I know I'm not super far in the game, but I really feel like I'm beginning to make progress. Being a casual gamer who grew up with Tiger Woods PGA Tour, Mario, and Lego games, I've never really understood why people played a game that's so merciless, but I underestimated just how good it does feel when you win for once [link] [comments] |
Worlds First DS3 SL1 bare fists only, all bosses + DLC complete Posted: 09 Jan 2021 07:43 PM PST Edit: In my excitement to get this post up i accidentally put this in the wrong subreddit, my apologies. A playthrough nearly 5 years in the making. A number of players have worked on this run such as g-s0ul and Gathrik. This playthrough was a massive community effort with a number of bosses once thought impossible. First of all massive shoutout to the company of champions discord, without a number of people in there this run would never be possible. First off a couple of rules: no damaging consumables, no armour of thorns, just fists damage. Iudex Gundyr - A very uneventful boss for this playthrough, nothing interesting to talk about except i did it on NG+7 just because. Vordt - Basically the same as gundyr, boring boss done on NG+7 Abyss Watchers - Basically the exact same as the previous 2 bosses. One thing of interest to note is that g-s0ul and xerieh both did this boss under these same restrictions except with rolling or parrying. Wolnir - Just a bit off luck is needed for the summons. Still nothing special to talk about. Crystal Sage - Another boring boss (i promise the interesting stuff starts soon) Deacons - This is the first boss in what i call the trash trio (the other 2 are halflight and gravetender). This fight was once thought impossible because of the curse buildup and the length of the fight, until a player called DSK did the kill (his kill can be seen here). The biggest advantage that is used is the pontiff left eye ring, which can be abused for infinite heals. Also a small glitch where if you hit enough deacons fast enough it will fully heal you instantly. Also Gathrik did the kill without alluring skulls (his kill here) Pontiff - Just alot of parrying Aldrich - A manipulation is used in this fight in order for him to not teleport, use magic or do arrows in phase 2. Basically after every melee attack if you stay at mid range he will do another melee attack. If you are too close he will teleport. If you are too far away he will do magic or p2 arrows. Yhorm - I managed to come up with a strat to optimise this fight. The other 2 kills done by g-s0ul and Gathrik are both around 1 hour 50 mins and i managed to get it down to 1 hour 20. The main optimisation is hitting the head with an R1 after a slam then doing an L1 to hit his hand making staggers alot more common. Also in p2 rolling close to him after the attack that's after a stomp will stop a follow up allowing for 2 hits instead of 1. Dancer - Smack that booty Dragonslayer Armour - I managed a flawless P2 in this kill. Nothing worthy noting except smack till dead. I find Gathriks kill very impressive as he used no defense stacking macking 1 hit from DSA himself would kill. (His kill here) Twinces - I somehow also managed a flawless p2 in this kill and only took 2 hits overall. I honestly am very bad at this fight. Greatwood - Very boring fight Old Demon King - Another boring one. G-s0ul did this kill on NG+7. Oceiros - Learning to pre roll the insta charge is key to this fight. Basically punish when behind him and when he turns, roll. Champion gundyr - Did this with parrying unlike xerieh and g-s0ul. Xeriehs kill is really efficient (seen here) Ancient Wyvern - Meme of a fight Nameless King - A really simple fight, but 99% of his attacks will oneshot with no defense stacking (which i didnt use). A kill that g-s0ul did segmented on NG+7, a really famous dark souls kill. Gravetender - Ok everything from here onwards is interesting. This was a kill that was left alone for a while because nobody could be bothered doing it because this fight sucks. The wolves at the start are honestly the worst part. The kill was first done by DSK (here). I altered his strat for dealing with both the wolf and tender by adding parries as well as backstabs, taking nearly 30 mins off the kill time. Sister Friede - 90 min long kill, one of the longest ones. If she gets a heal off in p2 its alot longer. P2 is the worst part as it is so boring and repetitive waiting for punish oportunites. Demon Prince - Another 90 min long kill. I managed to severly optimise p1 over g-s0uls kill which is close to 2 hours. P1 is still boring though as it is similar to friede p2. Also i has 2 deaths to P2. Midir - When g-s0ul originally did his kill of midir it blew up. Honestly this is probably the easiest DLC fight for this run. The fight is very simple and 42 damage per charge R2 is actually very good. Everything one hits you except a couple p2 pursuers. Halflight - This is the kill with the most history behind it. This is the kill we thought we would never crack and be able to do. The guardians passive heal out heals any damage you do, even with cheat engine turned on, max damage setup and spamming R1 in their faces. So killing the gurdians is literally impossible. Then a player called mouseinatutu send me this video. This shows a small playable area in the corner where halflight can be aggroed and the guardians could not. So all we had to do was come up with a strat to fight halflight in this small area. Alot of the work was done by a player called LeCarbonator and he was the first to pull off the kill (his kill here). The strat was based around guard breaking HL with the dragonstone to get many ripostes in and these guard breaks could semi consistently be looped. He then repeated the kill without dragonstone (cant include the link for some reason it just breaks). To get the kill for myself it took over 50 hours of mastering this strat. I came 1 parry away from this kill twice and had so many close attempts. Gael - The longest kill of the run clocking in at 1 hour 38 mins. This is 1 hour faster than g-s0uls original kill which was around 2 hours 40 mins. However Gathrik managed to do this kill in 1 hour 4 mins 1:04:44 kill Which is insane. He claims under 1 hour is possible. Soul of Cinder - Another kill thought impossible for a long time because of the heal. That was until Gathrik manged to down p1 gathriks p1 kill. This proved the full kill was possible. Then mouseinatutu grinded the kill and managed this. The worlds first unsegmented kill clocking in 2 hours in length. He also used no duel charms which is the item that partly stops the heal. The main strategy is to count hits and stagger him out of the heal to completely negate it. This strategy is very hard to do with how weird cinders stagger works. In my kill i managed to negate 2 heals with proper stagger timing and only used 1 duel charm. This is the kill that relies the most on skill. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Jan 2021 12:02 AM PST I got my refund for Cyberpunk and used the money to grab digital copies of DS1: Remaster and DS2 Definitive. I turned garbage into gold. [link] [comments] |
Is it common knowledge that you can parry the armored boar? Posted: 09 Jan 2021 10:54 AM PST Wasn't sure if I was just late to the party on this. I found out recently, and I just tested it and confirmed it's true. If you parry his charge attack, it doesn't stop him, but it changes the trajectory so he misses you. You can even run up behind and backstab him if you're fast. I love that I'm still learning new things about the game. [link] [comments] |

Who are all these people after I touched the gravelord servant sign and what am I supposed to do? Posted: 10 Jan 2021 02:22 AM PST I'm new to the game. I touched a gravelord servant sign twice but I still can't figure out who are those people in that world and who I should fight. The first time I saw a chaotic battlefield. There was a silver phantom, some red phantoms, some blue phantoms, and one normal looking player who I assumed was the gravelord servant. The gravelord servant was just standing there watching everyone fight? I was eventually killed by the silver phantom before I figured out what was happening. The second time the blue phantoms were dueling the gravelord one by one while the red phantoms just stood by and watched? One of the red phantoms kept making gestures at me and another one punched me when I was just standing there? I'm confused. I assume the other blue phantoms are in a position like me and I shouldn't fight them but what about the silver and red? Is it against the etiquette to attack the gravelord servant when another player is fighting him? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Jan 2021 09:45 PM PST The scale of power is pretty weird in DS trilogy specially with Ds3 where we have a dude who theorically ate the Dark Soul and another "dude" who is a fusion of all Lords of Cinder. In Ds1 we have Gwyn in the cinematic being extremely powerful, another dude who is made of literal abyss, and we have Kaamleeth who is said to be the strongest dragon, although there is Midir right there too. My personal top three are: 1- Soul of Cinder, all the Lords of Cinder...... 2- Gael, consumed the dried Dark Soul, the soul even changes climate and expulses chunks of it in form of skulls (because he can't control it), Gael even retains some of his ashen one abilities, like teleporting using summon signs. He has the strongest soul ever fetched, making him arguably the most powerful character individually. (I'm referring to his total power, not the little power he can liberate). 3- Gwyn on it's prime, he was the first Lord of a Cinder and he one shot the primordial dragons. The dude even was a threat to the chosen undead in his hollowed state and started the cycle of the world. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Jan 2021 09:09 PM PST I intend to get the Platinum for Dark Souls Remastered. One of the things I am missing is joining the Warrior of the Sunlight Covenant. To do that I know I need to help 3 people to beat any boss. I have just started my NG+. My question is: As I am in NG+, will I only be able to help other people who are in NG+, or Can I help folks who are in NG too? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Jan 2021 02:01 AM PST So I'm playing Dark Souls online this time despite my internet, and discovered my newest pet peeve. When someone summons you, and then makes you do all the work on the boss. Had someone someone me and another guy, and then they went allllll the way across Quelaags arena, and left me and the other dude to fight her alone. Didn't help. At all. Whatsoever. Gotta love that double health and only two people smacking the lady spider. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Jan 2021 01:43 AM PST I probably should've git gud instead of discovering firebombs exploit early on... but the arena just feels so broken! I will return to gitting gud later at O&S, I promise. For now I just utterly enjoy sunbroing him out of existence time after time after time for other folks! \\[T]/ [link] [comments] |
Should I grind souls then switch to the Black Knight Sword? Posted: 09 Jan 2021 10:39 PM PST Hi guys this is my first time playing a souls game, so I don't really know which are the "best" weapons. I am currently rocking a Claymore+9 (which I absolutely love), but I finally got a black knight sword. The problem is that I don't have the required dexterity yet. I started as a pyro and my stats are Vit - 20, Att - 16, End - 22, Str - 29, Dex - 14 (ones I did not mention were not leveled). I'm farming souls rn before I get started on Sen's Fortress and idk whether to invest in end or dex so I can use the BKS. Thanks in advance for the responses and I'm really enjoying this game so far!! [link] [comments] |
Games don't need to be live service to last a decade Posted: 09 Jan 2021 07:05 AM PST Dark Souls is a perfect example. The game is almost 10 years old and people are still playing it constantly, there's even people who played it since release that still play, it just doesn't get old. The key to making a game last for years is make it absolutely amazing and something with lots of replayability. But most devs aren't talented enough to do that. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Jan 2021 10:11 PM PST So I am still on my first playthrough on DSR, and I decided after beating Pikachu and Snorlax that I would venture down into the depths and try my best at that monstrosity waiting for me. Walked into that fight thinking it was going to be hard asf because my spouse had been going on about her first playthrough on DS (not DSR) years ago and how and how hard he was. Well that was a cool intro! This thing looks difficult....Couple minutes into the fight Sevre his tail and a few minutes later end up defeating him on my first attempt.... well than.... Finished Dark Souls 2, so review time! Spoilers, Obviously Posted: 09 Jan 2021 11:57 PM PST I've never played a souls game before this one, so I figured I give DS2 a review, while my perception isn't tainted by the other games, which I am definitely going to buy. Overall, 9/10 Combat: 10/10 I really liked the overall feel of combat. It is slow and methodical, and moving too quickly was usually what got me killed. It basically forced me to plan my attack walking into areas and to ALWAYS check my corners. Bosses: 9/10 I liked most the bosses, especially the Looking Glass Knight, Nashandra, and The Duke's Dear Freja. However, I found the royal rat authority to be really cheap, and several of the bosses felt very similar. World design: 8/10 Overall I found the world to be fascinating, but some parts were very empty, and I would sometimes be left wondering "why does this room exist?" However, I found Dragon Aerie to be the most stunning location I have ever seen in a video game. Multiplayer: 10/10 I was only invaded by a real person once and the pvp was satisfying. I only was able to summon one person for a boss fight, the Looking Glass Knight, which was a really fun experience. Story: 10/10 I found the story to be fascinating. The idea of becoming the true monarch really stuck with me, and I found Aldia, the Emerald Herald, and Lucatiel to all be very interesting characters. The memories portion was also a very cool look into the word building, and the kingdom itself. 9/10, had a few very minor flaws, but I found it to be a great game, and look forward to the DLCs as well as the other souls games. How do I get Dark Souls PTD Edition on Steam? Posted: 10 Jan 2021 02:33 AM PST I want to play the original experience but it isn't available on Steam but people in the reviews seem to have activated the game via Steam Key to which I don't know how to obtain. The Remastered is stupidly overpriced and I tried contacting Bandai Namco to bring PTD back on Steam to no avail. If anyone knows how I can obtain the game, please tell me [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Jan 2021 02:28 AM PST Anyone else noticed the amount of dark wraith signs during the beginning of play through. Specifically outside the bonfire underneath the bridge with the drake. Hellkite dragon [link] [comments] |
Artorias, first try ever - no humble brag Posted: 09 Jan 2021 05:36 PM PST First of all I am not very good at this game. Died to grave lord multiple times, and a slew of other bosses multiple times. I've never won an invasion, for whatever reason aka shite at PvP. Here's why I won: Two hand Great Scythe +15 (though, only 24 dex on an SL82 cuz I don't know self control - accidentally leveled stupid skills that have nothing to do with my play style due to indecision). 15 Estus +4 Darkwraith armor with head swapped for mask of child Grass crest shield +3 (lol I know) Rolls, lots of rolls, also, lots of lucky heals. I actually hit him reasonably hard. Probably killed him in less than 12 R2's. Didn't knock him out of power up, so his stabs and spams knocked me within 50hp of my remaining health. Roll, get caught, eat massive hit, R2 once, roll and chug. ????? Victory. Only reason I am saying anything is because a lot of people say he's insane, and more specifically my coworker told me that it took him over 6 hours of attempts to slay him. Anyway, humblebrag over. This hollow got lucky. Side note: upon entering township after killing Art, I got invaded and quad Great Combusted into oblivion just to be reminded that the chosen undead is garbage. Sif, or Moonlight Butterfly; Which boss do I keep alive to allow summoning for Hydra? Posted: 09 Jan 2021 10:05 PM PST |
Finally defeated dark souls (yesterday) Posted: 09 Jan 2021 01:12 PM PST After playing BB, DS3 and Sekiro I decided to do dark souls. Finally finished it yesterday! (Now doing my first non-balanced build in DS3). The game holds up amazingly well given its age. Did it fully with no summons along with AoTA. Artorias was the hardest boss for me and took around 4 hours. O&S second, took around 1.5 hours. Coincidentally, O&S are also my favorite boss! The fight offers a challenge which I would call fair, and is in contrast to the rest of the game which I thought was slightly easier than DS3. yay! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Jan 2021 12:57 AM PST I have put a grand total of 88 hours into dark souls, have beaten the game and pretty much got every item after I beat it blind. I got spat and shat on by many enemies and overall had a good time, but what do I do now? NG+ is getting very stale, pvp is Garbo because I have been playing on my switch (literally no one is playing on the switch platform) and I have no where to go. If anyone has any suggestions on what to do I would really like it. Challenge runs I have no clue. Yes I have beat the DLC. Yes I got what on. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Jan 2021 09:05 PM PST Running through the game and will be looking to get a few invasions or duel at least a bit, people still dueling in the dlc area at all? Im on steam, i played a bunch at launch on ps4 and im not expecting it to be jam packed like it was but hoping theres a some activity still [link] [comments] |
