Dark Souls 2 The Burnt Ivory King.

The way he emerges from the flames like motherfucking Sauron, then the music kicks in...so good.

By far my favourite boss in DS2, wasn't the toughest but the setting and entrance makes it for me.

Finished Dark Souls 2, so review time! Spoilers, Obviously

    Posted: 09 Jan 2021 11:55 PM PST

I've never played a souls game before this one, so I figured I give DS2 a review, while my perception isn't tainted by the other games, which I am definitely going to buy.

    Overall, 9/10

Combat: 10/10 I really liked the overall feel of combat. It is slow and methodical, and moving too quickly was usually what got me killed. It basically forced me to plan my attack walking into areas and to ALWAYS check my corners.

Bosses: 9/10 I liked most the bosses, especially the Looking Glass Knight, Nashandra, and The Duke's Dear Freja. However, I found the royal rat authority to be really cheap, and several of the bosses felt very similar.

World design: 8/10 Overall I found the world to be fascinating, but some parts were very empty, and I would sometimes be left wondering "why does this room exist?" However, I found Dragon Aerie to be the most stunning location I have ever seen in a video game.

Multiplayer: 10/10 I was only invaded by a real person once and the pvp was satisfying. I only was able to summon one person for a boss fight, the Looking Glass Knight, which was a really fun experience.

Story: 10/10 I found the story to be fascinating. The idea of becoming the true monarch really stuck with me, and I found Aldia, the Emerald Herald, and Lucatiel to all be very interesting characters. The memories portion was also a very cool look into the word building, and the kingdom itself.

9/10, had a few very minor flaws, but I found it to be a great game, and look forward to the DLCs as well as the other souls games.

    Curse Jars dialogue?

    Posted: 10 Jan 2021 12:12 PM PST

Hello my brethren accursed. I'm on my FIRST playthrough of this game, having beaten DSR and Sekiro only so far out of these games. I'm loving DS2 so far. I've embraced two primal souls so far (The Lost Sinner and The Rotten). Level 92 and running a STR build with Greatsword +5 as my best weapon currently.

Last night, I encountered the Curse Jars in the Shaded Woods. Those jars with faces on them that begin inflicting the ! CURSE ! on you. The laughing in the area genuinely freaked me out, and I realized it was coming from the jars. I think we all know that, but there is another audio clip that disturbs me in this area. I am not 100% certain, but I am fairly sure it is coming from the curse jars as well.

It's a very deep, low voice that is clearly speaking to you. I cannot make out what is being said though. I also can't seem to find anyone else online talking about this.

Does anyone know what I'm referring to? If so, do you know what things are being said? It's driving me crazy right now. Help a fellow hollow out if you have any insight on this. ✌️

How good is fire infusion + flame weapon if you dont hit the faith and int soft caps?

    Posted: 10 Jan 2021 02:40 PM PST

Hello, I want to build a pyro warrior character with a focus on strength weapons (though I also want to use the Murakumo).

Is it viable to infuse a weapon with fire and buff it with flame weapon even if you only have around 20-30 faith + int?

Is the ending of Dark Souls 2 worth all of the time and pain? (No Spoilers)

    Posted: 10 Jan 2021 09:51 AM PST

Heya everyone, hope you're all well.

So I've never really played a Dark Souls game, or really seen too much of one beyond memes and such. I know that they're extremely notorious for being very very difficult, which is not necessarily where my hesitation stems from.

I've played a little bit of the beginning of Dark Souls 2; it's the only one in the series I own. What I would like to know is that when I get to the end, when I'm at the other side of all that time and energy spent on countless deaths, will I consider it well spent? When my character is standing at the ending of the game, is it satisfying? Is the ending of the game satisfying?

I'm not too worried if the game is really hard and takes me days or weeks to beat. But if I get all the way to the end and just end up thinking "wtf? That was crap, that wasn't worth it", I'm just going to be extremely depressed at all the time I spent playing it. :/

So before I consider diving into it, I'd just like to honestly know (without spoilers), whether the ending of the game is satisfying and it'll feel like I achieved something?

    Chameleon/casting iframes?

    Posted: 10 Jan 2021 12:31 PM PST

So the other day I was goofing around and cast chameleon just as a turtle was gonna overhead smash me.

The attack went right through me as my cast animation finished, and I successfully became a box as he withdrew his mace. I had taken no damage.

    Was this a glitch?

    Ancient dragon Boss is bs.

    Posted: 10 Jan 2021 12:31 PM PST

Just everything about it sucks. The footstomp which is glitchy as hell, weird hitboxes, tons of hp and you litterally go from one toe to the other and thats the entire fight. Rant over.

    the duke’s dear freja?

    Posted: 10 Jan 2021 11:48 AM PST

so when you kill the duke's dear freja you obtain its soul but to obtain the great soul you must approach the red orb — behind the red orb there is a thin web that leads to the ceiling where the corpse of a dragon is mummified in spider web...so is it safe to assume the great soul belonged to the dragon and not freja?

I just beat Dark Souls 2 SOTFS and I'm sure many of you will think I'm crazy but for me dark souls 2 is better than 1 and 3. I love the DLCs even when Elana summoned Velstadt three times in one fight...

Hexer equipment questions: Santier's Spear & Witchtree Branch

    Posted: 10 Jan 2021 11:01 AM PST

I have a some questions on equipment and infusions. I have just fought the Rotten, and looted the Pit.

I currently have Dark bonus 153, and barely the stats to wield the broken Santier's Spear. The question is, should I use the Raw infusion or the Dark Infusion? (or any other type, open to suggestions).

Another question is on Sunset Staff vs. Witchtree Branch, would Dark infusion give me better mileage on the Witchtree? This affects the Santiier's spear utility as both Sunset and Santier's use twinkling, switchnig to witchtree can deconflict resources.

BTW it is ok to give me spoilers and fully "gamed" answers including late game utility in fighting DLC bosses.

    Ps4 community still active?

    Posted: 10 Jan 2021 11:00 AM PST

I've started this game from scratch 3 times and I've always lost interest or gotten frustrated before completing the game. However this time I'm going with a mostly strength heavy weapons heavy armor attempt which I've lever done in a souls like before (always sneaky stabby guy or a noob mage) and to be honest I'm finding a strength build very enjoyable in this game. My available weapons arent breaking after 3 or 4 fights and most enemies can be R1 spammers from behind or the side easily enough. But to the question.... is the ps4 community still active? I realize this game is far from new but I was hoping for some jolly cooperation on bosses and such

Minimum Soul Memory, or, the 30k Challenge

    Posted: 09 Jan 2021 11:58 PM PST

Inspired by IllusoryWall on twitter (Host of Dark Souls Dissected) I routed, attempted, and completed a run of ds2 with just 30,000 soul memory. It was tough but a lot of fun! Similar to a SL1 run but with some big difference in the playstyle of the late game. I highly recommend it! If people are interested I can provide my route.

    Infusing

    Posted: 10 Jan 2021 08:36 AM PST

So I reinforced the Sunset staff to +5. I wanted to infuse it with dark to amplify my hexes. If I read fextralife it seems it becomes less powerfull initially.

At the current state it gives 160 magic and 290 dark. After infusing it seems it only gives 95 magic and 66 dark.

    Is this true?

If it is, did I make a mistake using as much twinkling titanite to upgrade it?
