Just finished my first Dark Souls Bow Only playthrough - Some thoughts / setup Posted: 10 Jan 2021 03:05 PM PST I've just finished DS1 bow only-ish, here's my setup & some thoughts: My goal was to be as OP as possible, as early as possible My build: Gift: master key Weapons: Composite Bow, and the Black Bow of Pharis for long range shots. Shield: Grass Crest shield for stamina. Rings: I've went the full stealth mode with the Slumbering Dragoncrest Ring, and the Fog Ring, RTSR for boss battles and also cleaning some late game areas. Stats: aimed to have 45/45 STR & DEX Before killing gargoyles, I tried to get a +15 bow, so I went to New Londo and got the composite bow. Also, I killed Ingward so I could remove the water from New Londo and get the Very Large Ember early, plus I farmed Darkwraiths for shards. so I could go to +14 early. Near New Londo I also got RTSR from the Valley of Drakes From Blighttown I farmed shards to get to +10. Of course I had to kill Capra Demon so I could get the Large Ember from the Depths. Finally I killed the Stray Demon back at the asylum, and got my +15 bow. Time to start killing some bosses. Taurus Demon dies after three arrows: DARK SOULS™ REMASTERED Taurus Demon Bow Only - YouTube (I've left the other boss fights there on YouTube as well, so you can take a look) About traversing the world, here's the Artorias DLC just to give an example, I think the bow trivializes it: DARK SOULS™ REMASTERED Oolacile Bow Only pt1 - YouTube And finally here's the fight against Gwyn: DARK SOULS™ REMASTERED Gwyn, Lord of Cinder Bow Only - YouTube So, for me this was one of the most fun playthroughs I had with DS1. I've done pyro only runs before, sorcery only, and Warpick only. It's amazing how OP the bow is, which is expected, considering I +15'ed it even before killing Taurus. And here is where I have to praise DS1 world design, as many countless hollows like me have done before. For me it's great that a game let's you explore the world in almost any order you want (provided you have the master key), so if you know how to do it, you can build a super OP character just almost at the start. I know I'm not the first trying this, but just wanted to share my experience. TL;DR bow only is very OP, and very fun challenge to do in DS1 [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Jan 2021 11:27 PM PST I'm new to the game and I frequently look up videos on how to "git gud" and beat certain enemies in ds1 and I saw that most of these youtubers switch between one and two handing the claymore which is my personal choice of weapon. I don't really like using shields or know how to use them so is it ok if I just two hand the claymore the whole game or does that make everything more difficult? Thanks in advance [link] [comments] |
Is there anywhere I shouldn't go before I absolutely have to? Posted: 10 Jan 2021 08:43 AM PST Oki so in my first playthrough I explored the tomb of the giants after about 7 hours in. I was severely under leveled, didn't have a skull lantern and then found out you couldn't come back the way you came without grinding for 3 hours to get past 4 of those big skeleton fuckers. I've also read that you should explore until you hit a wall. Which seems sensible, but is there anywhere else that I should just not go to cuz I'm 17 hours in to this save and don't wanna start again lol [link] [comments] |
Would you like to play the game with a psudo-narrator? Posted: 11 Jan 2021 02:24 AM PST Lately I've been replaying the game and diving a lot in the lore of dark souls. I really enjoy playing the detective game around this stuff, and i also enjoy talking about that with my colleagues. However, and even though a lot of them have played and really liked the games, some have little to no idea about the lore itself (although they seemed very intrigued when i layed some facts). I felt kinda sad for them to miss that side of the game. All of this led me to the idea of making some kind of script for a narrator in the game, so we can all meet, have some fun playing the game, and rotating the script between us so we are reading every part as we progress into the game. Some details (skip this paragraph if not interested): My idea for the script is not to be very extensive, mostly descriptive of the surrounding or the events that just happened inside the playthrough maybe catalizing some feelings**.** Also I would like it not to be very intrusive with the lore. Ideally, it lay hints or presents the player the proper questions rather than chewing the story of the game for him. I like to think of it as a light handholding throughout the lore. ¿What do you think about all of this? ¿Do you think it goes aganist the game's intention/spirit? If some of you guys want I might upload it when it is finished so you can give it a try too. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Jan 2021 01:29 AM PST I'm in Ash Lake cursed, managed to kill the hydra anf have been farming for the purging stone, so far i have 19 twinkling titanite and not a single stone, where am i going wrong? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Jan 2021 01:00 AM PST Aight so, I'll just put it out there, I've recently beaten the Gaping Dragon in my current play through. I was actually really intimidated, knowing that some take the shortcut to Blighttown through New Londo Ruins to avoid this fight. That being said, I found the fight to be not as impossible as I thought it would be. I won't say it's easy, and I won't try to brag. But I figured out the strategy quickly enough to beat it on the second try. Oddly enough, I think it was pure luck that I managed to pull it off. All this to say, I'm wondering if anyone else fought a boss in this game and found it not to be as cripplingly difficult as they initially thought it would be. [link] [comments] |
A little question about exploring... Posted: 11 Jan 2021 02:27 AM PST Hi everyone, I finally started my first playthrough of DS1, going mostly blind. I rang the two bells and I just managed to reach the top of Sen's fortress (god that place is no joke... took me 15-20 tries I think) I don't wanna be spoiled too much but I start to wonder whether I should have explored a bit more previous areas before proceeding forward. I did the boss of Darkroot garden but I didn't explored any of the areas I came across so far (Great Hollow, Darkroot Basin, Valley of Drakes, New Londo, Demon Ruins, the graveyard near Firelink Shrine...) I also read somewhere that once you finished the game you're automatically in NG+ so I don't want to miss all those things, but honnestly I'm not excessively excited to go all the way back right now... :p So, is it clear when you approach the end of the game and will I be able to go back to these places later ? Thanks ;) [link] [comments] |

Starting my no death run in NG Posted: 10 Jan 2021 09:05 AM PST Yesterday I finished my first playthrough as a knight, and started a new character (sorcerer) to try a no death run. I just finished Asylum with no deaths, and my journey has officially started! Wish me luck! UPDATE: Just beat Taurus with no damage taken! Things are looking good so far! UPDATE #2: Rang the first bell with the help of Sunbro! Capra is probably the next one! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Jan 2021 07:09 PM PST Does anyone have a sanctus shield? Leroy fell off the cliff. I'm making a divine build. I can trade for it or help kill gravelord. [link] [comments] |

Who do you think lorewise is stronger? Artorias, Raime or Gundyr, all on their prime. Posted: 10 Jan 2021 09:39 PM PST Really though, all of these are basically legends, Gundyr is the only one who isn't as popular, but he has an important role anyways. All of them got corrupted by something, but before that they were pretty competitive in strength. Artorias was strong enough to fight Oolacile, Raime strong enough to compete with Velsdat, and Gundyr was the one supposed to be the champion... supposed, he lacks feats but you can have an idea. Posted: 10 Jan 2021 12:23 PM PST I feel I've been taking a significant portion of the challenge away from the bosses. For 4 kings, I just put gold pine resin and green blossom and spammed with havels armor. I was done in like 2 mins, even though this is supposed to be a hard boss. Am I cheesing or do a lot of people do this [link] [comments] |
Should I feel bad for using a guide? Posted: 10 Jan 2021 07:36 AM PST I recently bought DS1 and have about 25 hours in it and i am having a blast. I used a lot of guides and some wiki item descriptions because I don't really intend to play it twice and I don't want to miss a lot of stuff. I remembered about that guy that beat sekiro with hacks and felt good about it and now i feel kinda bad about using guides. Shouls I feel bad for using them or is it ok [link] [comments] |
Can I have different save files Posted: 10 Jan 2021 02:50 PM PST So when I first played the game I chose the knight class but people say that the warrior is the best class to pick so I want to try the warrior out but I don't want to get rid of my save just to play a character that I won't probably like so please help [link] [comments] |
Misterious door at the burg big bridge Posted: 10 Jan 2021 09:53 AM PST looking at the bridge from where you fight the boss you can see this door https://postimg.cc/Hjc20pQr But when i go there there is nothing https://postimg.cc/mcmwjkXH/64ab6d0d I tried hitting the wall but nothing happens. Am I missing something? [link] [comments] |
Spoilers(not sure how to do the spoiler lines) Posted: 10 Jan 2021 05:03 PM PST So i recently got into the souls series and right from the start i was on the darksouls reddit. Everyone here is so helpful and definitely not what i expected from a online social community in our current society. Well from the beginning i was constantly seeing posts about how difficult the orstien and smough fight was even with summoning so naturally i was weary. Once i got to anor lando the anxiety struck even harder. Found myself cautiously rounding every corner expecting to find the infamous fog passage to the scene of inevitable death. By this time i am sl 50 with a +10 zwei and silver knight armor so im killing everything except the huge knights in a few hits. I finally get to the fog passage room and i summon the npc (not gonna spoil who is it for the sake of other people) after killing the archer. We took on the 2 huge knights and went in the fog. Npc was at half health now so he died fairly quick in battle with o&s. I followed shortly of coarse. So i decided to kill all mobs in fog room before summoning. And did it pay off. Summoned npc and entered fog and within 5 minutes i had defeated the once so nerve wracking, fearful duo. And on my 2nd try nonetheless. So my advice for any newcomer wanting to take on the lifestyle that is dark souls, read and take in all the advice you can/want to but dont back yourself into a figurative corner and consider yourself doomed untill you try. I gave more than 10 sunlight medals and I'm still not able to get +1 in Warriors of Sunlight, why? Posted: 10 Jan 2021 10:13 PM PST I'm trying to platinum the game by getting Great Lighting Spear and Sunlight Spear. I grinded sunlight maggots for probably more than a hour and I gave more than enough sunlight medals to rank up in the covenant. Heck, I even already did so in my previous playthroughs and this is probably my 5th playthrough. I play offline cause I can't afford PS+ so could it be because I'm offline and I have to be online? If this is a glitch how do I report it? [link] [comments] |
