    Just thanks :)

I was talking to someone just now and it "clicked" for me just how much this game and sub have provided a reprieve from all the shit going on.

Thanks everyone. This game, and talking with you all about it, has absolutely kept me sane the past few months. You're all ruddy bloody legends ❤

After finishing DS2 I can put to rest two myths that people and the media used to spread around Internet.

    Posted: 12 Jan 2021 03:16 PM PST

Myth #1: Dark Souls 2 is the easiest on the saga.

Absolutely bulls#&+. This game is at least harder than the first one, specially on NG+ (those red phantoms everywhere). DS1 was extremely easy on NG+1 for me but DS2 is kicking my ass already. Other than that, the HP penalty when you die, the slower animation when drinking estus and some bosses like the Belfry Luna Gargoyles (specially for offline players) are a pain in the ass.

Myth #2: Dark Souls 2 is a bad game (or at least disappointing compared to the first one)

Again just nonsense. If you enjoyed the first game or Demon's Souls (actually I found DS2 share some similarities with this one), DS2 is a must play. The story, the world, the characters and gameplay are on par with the best Fromsoftware works, even if Miyazaki didn't directed this game is still an excellent sequel.

Edit: Holly cow! I'm new on this subreddit and didn't expect this would be a hot topic. I really appreciate the different opinions and tips regarding this subject, this has been fun and interesting.

As much as lifegems break the healing economy...

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 12:08 PM PST

I sure fricken love their use animation way more than drinking from my sippy cup.

Always been a fan of the humanity/soul pop animations, and having a healing items that shares a similar animation is extremely satisfying. Just crushing shit in your hand is so dramatic, I love it.

Wish lifegems were expanded upon, even replacing estus, like make them bonfire coals, and make it reasonable that they recharged at bonfires with limited amounts, like estus... I dunno, anything to replace my sun piss healing potion.

I really do get the criticism of lifegems, yet its not the item itself, but the way they were implemented in the game that is deserving of the criticism.

Thank you invader kimjongil for the drops! You are a good egg even though you wrecked me (Aeryn)

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 02:44 AM PST

I'm trying to kill darklurker and making my way through the shaded woods area when I get invaded by the above. He wrecks me. I try again and get invaded again. This time I plead with them not to kill me (Prostration) and instead they drop me 11 effigies and help me kill the denizens. This happened a few more times, and Kim Jong Il drops me more effigies and Elizabeth mushrooms and crimson water. The final time he took pity on me and just black crystalled out. Yes I know I'm a crap player and I need to get gud but you made my night last night and I will dedicate my removal of Darklurker to you Cursed One

    What a journey!

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 12:08 PM PST

After completing both DS3 and DSR I reluctantly decided to give DS2 a try, which I had put off after hearing all the slander about it. However, after having just now beaten the final DLC I must say it was by far the most addicting of the souls games! I love the different mechanics (bonfire aesthetics especially) and viability of different builds. I found it far easier than both DS3 and DSR. I can't tell if it actually was easier, or just my build (Dark Rapier +10, 40-40 int-faith) making it seem so. I think I was so overleveled (almost lvl 200...) at the end that some of the more formidable bosses (Fume Knight and Burnt Ivory King) got rolled over first try, Sir Alonne provided a good bit of trouble though. Great game, thoroughly glad I didn't skip past it!

Randomly thinking about Dark Souls 2

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 06:13 AM PST

Sitting here at work, playing Super Mario Odyssey. Next thing I know I get an overwhelming feeling of the lava castle area in Dark Souls 2. And Sir Alonne. God I miss this game it was a blast to play. Felt sorta like a dark tunnel with cool swords but hey. Gimme a switch port soon.

Unpopular opinion, I kinda like Skeleton Lords

    Posted: 12 Jan 2021 08:15 PM PST

Before you say I'm insane, I don't think that a crowd boss fight will ever be better than a more traditional one. I know there's a bit of a stigma against these kinds of fights, but within the limitations of the type of fight, I think this one succeeds where others, such as Royal Rat Vanguard, fail. Here's why:

1: The arena. It's huge, and has a bunch of pillars that you can use to separate the crowd, or hide behind while healing. Compare that to RRV, it's in a tiny room, and although it does have a lot of rat statues, they're too small to effectively hide behind or separate the rats.

2: The enemy composition. The fight starts off with the three big skeleton pyromancers, and a bunch of the basic skeleton enemies. As the fight goes on, bonewheels and eventually tankier armored skeletons appear. At the start, you have to make the choice of either trying to eliminate one of the pyromancers immediately and have to deal with a giant crowd later, or get rid of some of the smaller skeletons and deal with three ranged attackers on full hp. When the bonewheels show up, it's a mad rush to kill them as fast as you can, since they do quite a bit of damage and can close the distance fast. Then, the armored skeletons pressure you to thin the crowd of regular skeletons because you won't be able to kill them quickly. Compare this to RRV. You have rats. The same rats, but one is the boss and has a bigger health pool. Pretty boring. You don't even have to consider who to prioritize, since even if you try to kill all the non-boss rats first, other ones will just take their place. The only thing you can do is focus Mr. Mohawk.

Hi all- need a spicy build reccomend

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 08:11 AM PST

2nd run here. First played DS2 back in 2016 so 5 years later for the 2nd time around and having a blast.

I always went sword+shield or 2 handed in every soulsborne game and want to spice it up as I replay them all. I'm nearing the end of Ds1 Sorcery co-op and really enjoyed a different play style.

In ds2 I have a +3 estoc, killed last giant, pursuer, and now dragonrider and really wanting to diverge my build especially since I have a respec. Edit: level 30, strength and dex both at 14 and high ADP. some END everything else low level but im sitting on lots of souls.

What are your favorite off norm builds or what's this Ive heard about power-stancing?

So I just finished Dark Souls 2 and I'm planning on doing a ng++ run

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 01:28 PM PST

Hello everyone, so I was wondering whether it's recommended to use a full sorcerer class for ng+ and ng++ runs, or it's a better idea to stay with my full strength class. I also saw videos were ppl used a dexterity class and they were melting bosses. Any ideas and what weapons and stats should I level up? Thx for helping

    Beginners question(s)

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 03:39 AM PST

Hello guys, I just got DS 2 SOTFS. I was wandering, does this still have a good player base? Summoning other players was really easy in Dark Souls 3 when you were stuck. I just played Dark Souls 3 for like the seventh time and this is my first other dark souls game. If you want to offer this champion of ash a good tip or trick, feel free to comment.

    Just got the game

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 08:29 AM PST

I played DSR and DS3 in that order and I've always been a bit reluctant on DS2 because I've always heard it was the worst title of the series and that it had a few peculiar mechanics that actually made the game more insufferable and not more challenging. Anyway I was brave enough to buy a key today and I was wondering if there was any tip you guys think I should know of before playing the game.

    Rengoku cosplay suggestions

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 02:21 AM PST

I recently started a run trying to cosplay Kyojuro Rengoku, from Kimetsu no Yaiba. Here is my build:

    Starting class: Swordsman

    SL: 150

    50 VIG

    30 END

    4 VIT

    13 ATT

    15 STR

    40 DEX

    11 ADP

    20 INT

    20 FTH

I'm using Cale top and shoes and Agdayne's cuffs, with Blacksteel Katana. My spells are Flame Weapon and Firestorm. Any ideas on how I could improve it?
