Hurrah for victory!! and then visions of sadness...

    Posted: 18 Jan 2021 06:36 AM PST

I finally did it. Got all the achievements and it felt damn good.

This game is my favourite in the series. I believe i've seen all this game has to offer and that kinda makes me sad. Because i wont get to experience it all over again like before. I remember when first set foot on Majula, discovering new paths, new areas, encountering the bosses for the first time. I was fascinated by the game.

Now that i am done with the game. I need to tell the people who haven't played Dark Souls 2 or any other Soulsborne game that they are so lucky to not have experienced it yet. I hope you guys give it a shot. You probably won't regret it.

Whoever put down the message behind the ballistas in the Purseur boss battle

    Posted: 18 Jan 2021 12:14 PM PST

There's a special place in hell for you. Do you know how many times that screwed me over? Having to close the message before firing the ballista? All of my excellently executed parries only to miss my shot by a nano-second. When I went offline I beat him on my first try. But not before dying 5+ times.

I will never forgive... and I will never forget.

    Shout out to Twiggy (DLC)

    Posted: 18 Jan 2021 06:12 AM PST

NPC summon for Burnt Ivory King. I was moments away from being impaled by King's stab attack when Twiggy staggered him with great arrow headshot. After my shock wore off, we took him down.

I don't usually like to summon for bosses, but it seemed fitting for this brawl of a boss fight. So worth it. Bless you Twiggy: NPC MVP.

Bone fist is in a tier of its own

    Posted: 18 Jan 2021 08:31 AM PST

I can't think of any other weapon in the souls series that feels this right. I put the caestus in the offhand, slapped on Havel's legs/gauntlets, lion cape, and Catarina helm. Now I have a super-Siegmeyer build that is crushing late game. I like to imagine Siegmeyer was a brawler at heart and only used the Zweihander to hide his true potential.

Advice for first time going into NG+?

    Posted: 18 Jan 2021 01:05 PM PST

Looking for some general advice for my first time heading into NG+ (looking to get Plat trophy on Playstation. Only need the NG+ Boss soul items, and NG++ items from Wellager)

This is the second time i've beaten NG. First was as Quality build with Longsword

My current build i'll be moving into NG+ with is a melee / hexer (Dark Silverblack Spear +10 & Dark Black Witch's Staff; overall level ~220)

    • Just looking for some general advice on what to keep my eyes open for and some rings, etc i should be aware of.
    • I've read there are a lot more red invaders?

    • Any advice how to most quickly run through NG+? Optimal path/boss order?

    Question

    Posted: 18 Jan 2021 08:59 AM PST

I was looking at picking up ds2 on ps4, is it worth it at 18 bucks? I greatly enjoyed ds3, is it as good?

    Inaccessible area in FotFG?

    Posted: 18 Jan 2021 12:29 PM PST

It's beside the area near Cale. When you enter that large courtyard area, on the far side at ground level there's a gate that I can't seem to get on the other side of. There's a few items I can see on the far side and one of those turtle-looking enemies with a hammer. I'm stumped!

    Challenge runs for stream?

    Challenge Runs for streams?

As the title says, I'm trying to think of some interesting challenge runs for a future stream. This can be for Dark Souls 1,2 or 3 as I've 100% all of them and know them pretty well. The two that prominently pop in my mind are soul level 1 runs and depraved runs but that seems to simple. Any suggestions from the lovely community? I await your torture suggestions!

    But why?

    Posted: 18 Jan 2021 08:06 AM PST

Whats the point in summoning someone, just to banish them once they help you clear all the enemies that YOU went out of your way to fight? Or just before a boss? Like I'm just tryna get sunlight medals and this guy banishes me after he goes out of his way to kill everything in Harvest Valley, AND I clear the path to the boss. I dont get it. All you did was screw me over. I hope he suffers 😒

A humble list of the things i Liked and Disliked about this game.

    Posted: 18 Jan 2021 10:24 AM PST

This will be a bit long, but i think i am very much happy to put this here. I have possibly finished most of the game. i know the throne of want is the final location, therefore, i have basically finished the game. So here are a few rankings and reasons of the aspects/things of the game.

    Loved -->

    9) Some cool call backs to DS1, like discount Ornstein.

    8) NPCs move a lot. i like the more alive nature if them.

    7) Flask Shards and bone dusts. cool new concept, encourages searching.

    6) Infusions and upgrade system is much more simple and convenient.

    5) A lot of souls are available.

    4) Sir Allone & Fume Knight : do i even have to describe?

    3) The Pursuer: Man this guy is so fun. just a good design overall. your nemesis in the first half of the game basically. and even defeated the hardest enemy gravity.

    2) Lucatiel of Mirrah: I LOVE HER. helped me in so many battles. plus, she's beautiful

    1) Lifegems. I really like the introduction of slowly healing things in ds2. acts as an insurance for survival.

    Disliked/Hated -->

    9) Petrified statues. who thought introducing Fragrant branches was a good idea?

    8) Lack of Intertwining world design. it just feels straightforwards. the mystery and amaze of looping back is gone.

    7) Torch Mechanic: bruh useless as f. used it only twice in the game.

    6) Frigid Outskirts, Black Gulch, Gutter, Royal rat vanguard, Shrine of Amana. No explanation needed.

    5) The cheese aspect of the game: i have cheesed through literally 70 percent of the bosses. especially that ancient dragon and blue smelter demon. every enemy placement as well is cheese worthy.

    4) The Ganking oh god. Belfry gargoyles, Gang squad, FOREST OF FALLEN GIANTS INTRO, IRON PASSAGE & iron keep ( keep is fun but the run to the smelter is BAD), stupid LUD AND ZALLEN re-skins.

    3) ADP. i found out later wtf this stat does. why do i have to spend on something DS1 offered me as a base?

    2) The controls, the mother effing controls. the game is just broken. Double clicking being required to disable everytime i load is just horrible. i had to spend an hour trying to fix the original controls.

    1) broken game: hitboxes, backstabs, lock on, etc. everything is a shame.

Overall, i just wish to finish the game. i may not play it again, unlike DS1. i played DS1 3 times, one with warrior, one with pyro and warrior NG+.

    (Spoiler) Pure Caster On DLC

    Posted: 18 Jan 2021 02:08 PM PST

I'm so conflicted as to whether or not running Caster builds on the DLC is as hard or easier than some make it out to be. Played through some of it blindly (first time playing the DLC of DS2) and found myself doing next to no damage to enemies, but it wasn't that bad if you kept yourself stocked with herbs. Brume so far wasn't that bad, managed to beat that one room with the lava armour giant and it wasn't that bad, same as Shulva. But goddamn, Eleum Loyce knights seem to take absolutely no damage, my Soul Spear at INT 60 with a +5 M.S.o.W looks like it only takes off 1/3 of their health.

Any tips to get through this doing next to no damage? Haven't fought any of the DLC bosses yet and haven't been struggling too much, but heard fume knight and B.I.K are pretty tough.

Got the Plat for DS2- and with it I 100% the Dark Souls trilogy

    Posted: 18 Jan 2021 01:21 PM PST

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/1RpI3FRTU4vb9q3fOcoJUOxA0EPeNrHP9/view?usp=sharing

A couple days ago I requested some tips in order to get through the final sprint of the task. My many Many Thanks to everyone who replied with sound advice.

Just the usual anecdote: I left Vendrick for last. Had never beaten him, of course, but more importantly never really tried to. I had died like 20 times, all my characters combined. I admit that for a long while i made the stupid assumption that he could be "regularly" beaten with 3 souls in the inventory, even if those tries surely proved me wrong. I messed the math/din't look for details and just said "one other day". The one character that finished all DLCs stupidly wasted Giant souls for weapon upgrades, so i also never had the blessing and all that- currently working on it, obviously :P.

So i started a new character, thrusting swords, adp and dex at caps. As i went through all the 4 big ones, I also farmed the rotten for soul levels and brightbugs from Melentia, packed all mushrooms i could find along with a ton of magic ooze and after a quick muscle memory/confidence workout with Aava, I went for the big guy with the shins i must poke to death.

For a moment "i'm gonna be at this for a while" crossed my mind. You know the feeling. After I rolled throught the Velstadt's gate mob, i pumped myself up and just decided to (re)learn his moves, one by one. No brightbugs for now, i am gonna die fast while learning.

    Then I first tried him.

4 souls, dex 42, adp 32 (gosh, i can never go back to less, it feels), espada ropera +10 with magic ooze and thirdrob+1flynnleo ring setup. Took me about 3 or 4 minutes.

The King was peaceful at last, and so was the guy that spent hundreds of hours in Drangleic (and Lordran. And Lothric.) The double pling i heard from the console assured me that it was done, at last.

I admit there's a bit of nerd pride for having endured all of the stuff that's just plain boring (farming in PvE is not a fun activity but to each its own), but facing Raime and Alonne again in a couple hours will surely bring me to my humble self again.

Would it be wise to use magic with a quality build?

    Posted: 18 Jan 2021 12:33 PM PST

So I had a build in mind where I may either use the sun sword or the loyce greatsword. I was wondering if it's a good idea to use magic with this build? It does require a ton of stat investment in a lot of places

Best Bosses to Summon for Soul Memory Tier 36

    Posted: 18 Jan 2021 08:43 AM PST

Help at the second bonfire in Shrine of Amana

    Posted: 18 Jan 2021 11:59 AM PST

I hate this place, the first half was super easy but I just can't reach the boss without dying and there's no summons anywhere. I've tried so many times that the first 4 or five enemies stopped respawning

    Heides Scholar change

    Posted: 18 Jan 2021 11:43 AM PST

So I recently finished Heides Tower of flames for the first time in Scholar and heard that the Heide Knights patrol after the Dragonrider so had killed them all to limit beforehand. Unfortunately it seems Scholar hates me just as much as the original and refused to drop the Old Knight Gloves so I joined CoC and oh my god do the knights patrolling make this area suck. Visually it's probably one of my favorite areas but this change has made it so difficult to get through with how far away the Heide Knights agro from.
