A new way to play Dark Souls for all skill levels! (plz read)

    Posted: 23 Nov 2020 08:21 PM PST

As many of you know, Dark Souls can sometimes become a little bland. Luckily for you, I've created a system where players of all skill levels can come together to overcome challenges made by YOU - the community!!! I REALLY wanted to simply bring everyone together with a fresh new experience. So if you're interested in making your own challenges for others to try, or you simply want to try challenges made by others, consider joining this discord I made: https://discord.gg/jrYYvUrQn5

The best part? You guys can compete on leaderboards, gain ranks for completing challenges, and much more. Full archives are put in place for challenges, who completes them, and the videos that people submit.

It should be a ton of fun, and I'm really looking forwards to seeing everyone play the game in a new way for the first time since 2011. I've put together an introduction video so that things hopefully make sense after you watch it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIABMGuFOfE

Now let's hope this doesn't get lost in new. That would be a shame. I actually think a lot of people might like this.

Edit: Thank you guys so much. This community never fails to impress me. For those planning on joining, I'm going to get a good night's sleep before verifying any challenges. Feel free to wait until then!

    Artorias.. shit man..

    Posted: 23 Nov 2020 06:11 AM PST

My lord.. this is the most epic character for me even after all these years and after playing tons and tons of games (I suffer from a disability that prevents me from working, so I occupy myself doing what I love.. Gaming); anyhow.

The lore surrounding Sir Artorias makes me respect a fictional charcter moreso than actual human beings.. The battle, is storytelling in itself.. seeing his good arm fractured and imagining the pain of a broken arm makes me shudder since I'm no stranger to physical pain.. and the fact that he could kick your ass easily with his other arm and a broken limb, which he broke saving a friend's life, after having lost his sanity.. man.. and his music theme, just listen to it carefully and you will hear subtle whispers that may represent his struggle with his sanity.

I cannot recall any fictional character in recent entertainment that touched me so deeply, and his scream at the end of the fight signifies to me that he is experiencing more than just the pain of the wound you inflicted to kill him. It's heartbreaking.

    Hat's off to miyazaki..

Breath of the Wild Player Interested in Dark Souls- Get It?

    Posted: 23 Nov 2020 08:37 PM PST

I'm interested in getting dark souls for $20 on the switch. I've never played dark souls before. One of my favs is breath of the wild. I loved that game for its open world exploration and light role playing elements. I also loved the game for its chill scenary.

Should I get dark souls? I'm interested in the game because of its harder difficulty and open world. I'm not sure if I'll like the game though because of its vibe. The screen seems dark all the time. The monsters' appearances seem more ambiguous and generic than the ones in breath of the wild. I also feel like the game feels very intense all the time and wouldn't be as much of an open world exploration like breath of the wild.

These Giant Skeletons on all fours in the Tomb of the Giants are absolute hell

    Posted: 23 Nov 2020 02:07 PM PST

Why the hell are they so fast and strong? I literally cant progress because these giant dog like skeletons are somehow fast as hell. Is there any way to easily dispatch them? Cause they're too fast for my stamina to recover, and end up mauling me to death

The Crystal Cave is basically a huge trust exercise with an abusive partner.

    Posted: 24 Nov 2020 04:49 AM PST

Dark Souls spends a good chunk of the game messing with the player. From enemy placements that are often put in place to ambush you to scenarios like the silver knight archers in Anor Londo. Then comes the crystal cave and suddenly the game wants you to trust it. It wants you to take a leap of faith and just believe its totally guiding you in the right direction over invisible walkways and not kill you for shits and giggles like its done so many times before. To forget about moments like in blight town where the rickety bridge swayed just to mess with you. Its some messed up stuff.

What is the height of the map?

    Posted: 24 Nov 2020 04:27 AM PST

Obviously the map is very stretched vertically but is there any information about how tall it actually is? I found a map viewer but that only displays the models without a scale. Lower blighttown and the lake next to it is seen next to some walls and appears to be the lowest point that is not underground so we could say thats ground zero. How much taller is the tip of dukes archives and how much lower are lost izalith and bottom of the great hollow?

If possible use meters and give the source

    Dark Souls franchise sales

    Posted: 24 Nov 2020 04:25 AM PST

Hey I'm planning to buy dark souls remastered, 2 and 3 and naturally I want to buy them on autumn sales. The problem is there weren't any sales of remastered and 2 in Summer Sales( this is not the case with ds3).I wonder why? So it means there won't be any sales either in autumn sales. If that happens should I buy ds3 and start playing the series with it or should I wait months or years (thinking they've stopped discounting) for another sale?

    My experience with Dark Souls

    Posted: 24 Nov 2020 04:02 AM PST

So I've recently finished the first dark souls and I was pretty dissapointed with the whole experience tbh. I just want to say for the record it's not bad, but I was left heavily dissapointed by the time the credits rolled. For abit of backstory, I played dark souls 1 first since I heard it was such a loved game by lots of people. I was Initially turned off from the whole thing because i heard it was hard, after actually going through with it I had an alright time actually and the "difficulty" isn't the reason i don't like the game, it was everything else I would say.

I didn't find the combat that interesting and it was pretty bland by the end of my run. I thought doing things like back stabs or parrying was kinda cool but the combat itself felt pretty boring to say the least.

I didn't find the lore all that interesting at least after reading a bunch of items in the game or spending some time watching a few YouTube videos. This structure of how the story telling is done is also abit weird. Maybe I just prefer traditional story telling but I wasn't as connected to the world or the characters because of it even though I tried for awhile to get into it but It didnt click unfortunately.

I thought some locations were pretty bland and uninteresting, there were a few cool locations like the painted world of ariamis and anor londo, but I didnt find the vast majority all that interesting or good to look at.

After I was done with dark souls 1 i went and played dark souls 2 and my feeling of dissapointment was pretty much the same... I just didn't really understand why I couldnt get into these games, it was annoying me considering I had heard they had been given lots of praise over the years but it didnt do it for me.

Instead of playing dark souls 3 I figured I would play bloodborne instead, change it up abit. And honestly I love bloodborne, seriously I think it's better in every way. The level design is cooler along with the enemies, not a single area I thought was bad. The combat was so much fun to mess around with, there was less weapons but each had transformations and varied move sets that were so cool to play around with it was awesome. This time you had a gun for parrying which was alot of fun and even stealth was involved where you could slowly walk up to an enemy from behind and viceral them it was great. And despite my opinion on the way the story is told I actually found it pretty interesting this time around. I honestly couldn't believe it but I seriously think bloodborne was great, the more faster paced agressive approach to combat was what I needed.

It's because of this i feel like playing dark souls might of been a mistake and I should of skipped it altogether. I'm still debating if I should even play dark souls 3 so I don't end up being dissapointed with it all again but I heard it's alot more similar to bloodborne.

I probably made alot of enemies by making this post, at least those who read it, that wasn't my intention but I'm just really annoyed with my dark souls experience, if you think I should play dark souls 3 maybe then I'm open to suggestions because trust me I don't want to hate these games, I held on for so long because I hoped it would reel me in but sadly only bloodborne has done it.

I just killed Ornstein and Smough and it was awesome!

    Posted: 23 Nov 2020 07:52 PM PST

I won't lie, I took a hell of a beating, and took me three tries, but the fight was fucking amazing! I was really dreading fighting these two because I've heard from practically everyone how infamous the fight, but goddamn I loved every second of it! Like, this genuinely might be my favorite fight in the entire game!

    Why is everyone so big?

    Posted: 23 Nov 2020 11:52 AM PST

What's up with enemies in dark souls? I understand a lot of bosses even humanoid ones make me feel like I'm an ant, and I'm not complaining since the 'little guy vs super big mofo' is something I like in videogames.

Poise: where have you been all my life!?

    Posted: 23 Nov 2020 09:26 AM PST

I started the mainline series with Dark Souls 3. I loved it, but whenever I listened to critiques of the game or discussed it with people, the same criticisms would keep popping up: shields are useless, poise doesn't exist, armor doesn't matter, etc. It being my first Souls game, I had nothing to compare it to, so I couldn't relate.

Anyway now I've finally got my hands on DS1 and done a couple playthroughs. This time around I decided to go for a heavy armor/Greatshield tank. And, well... now I know what everyone's been on about. I feel invincible. I can block everything with little to no stamina, and when I do get hit I don't even react. I feel like I myself am a Dark Souls boss, rather than some weak undead. O&S just got their teeth kicked in.

    This shit is tight.

Gwyn’s theme got me into this game before I knew he was part of it

    Posted: 23 Nov 2020 01:26 PM PST

Last year I was very stressed out and was looking for calming music on SoundCloud and I came across his theme. I fell asleep to it every night and after about a month I finally decided that I had to find out who this theme belonged to and saw it was from dark souls. I then saw it was on the switch and the idea of playing DS on the go or in my bed was cool so I got it. And today I'm now level 250 on Dark souls 3 on ng+6 and an avid consumer of lore from Vaati

    I regret using a guide

    Posted: 23 Nov 2020 02:38 PM PST

I recently finished my first playthrough and used a guide for a good half of the game. I definitely enjoyed the game a lot more when I was in areas with no guide used like Sens Fortress and Izalith. I kept trying to kill all the skeletons in the graveyard outside firelink when I first started, and spent a good hour stuck there, until I watched a walkthrough that pushed me in the right direction. I am pretty bad at exploration in video games, so the temptation of using one dragged me in. I am thinking about getting DS3 and Sekiro, and I was wondering if the "no guide" rule still applies there. Is the blind playthrough as good for those games as I hear it being for this one?

    Constantly disconnecting!

    Posted: 24 Nov 2020 02:25 AM PST

So I just got dark souls 1 remastered and well... IT KEEPS DISCONNECTING! I'll be 3/4 through a really hard enemy and BOOM! Disconnected, then when I return, the enemy is back where it was with full health and I'm left with barely any estus flasks... this is making the game unplayable and I just got it! And FYI, my internet to my Xbox is wired and works fine... does anyone have any suggestions or is this just something I am going to have to deal with?
