[Spoilers] How is rejecting the throne a different ending from letting the first flame fade?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 03:54 PM PDT

Okay so super ultra short recap of the endings in DS1 and the original ending in DS2: you either link the First Flame, continuing the age of fire, or you reject the First Flame and usher in a new age of man and of the Dark. Upon DS2's release you only have 1 ending to the game: take the Throne of Want, meant to represent that both of DS1's endings lead here and that, regardless of which choice you or any other particular undead take, the timeline will continue the same (on into what will eventually be DS3). Edit: what the DS2 ending deems important is not which of those two options you choose, but rather being in the position to make that choice, i.e. sit atop the Throne of Want.

When Scholar of the First Sin comes out, you can unlock a second ending where the Bearer of the Curse rejects the Throne of Want. This has caused some confusion about how DS1 and DS2 endings line up, with taking the Throne seen as the choice to ignite the First Flame, and rejecting the throne seen as letting the First Flame die. But of course we know that taking the Throne represents both linking the flame and becoming the Dark Lord of Man. And we know that whether you take the Throne and ignite, take the Throne and snuff out, or reject the Throne, all paths lead to Dark Souls 3.

Which begs the question: what is the Bearer of the Curse actually doing when they reject the throne? Since there is no one at the First Flame, this guarantees the flame will die out, but of course the Bearer is not accepting the title of Dark Lord of Man, just creating an age of dark. But they're not breaking the cycle, they're not actually changing the course of time, simply rejecting the power that would come with the First Flame, reject or accept. Is that the only change the two endings represent?

Have you guys watched the DS2 Announcement Trailer?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 08:20 AM PDT

I've been a DS2-nerd for years, but I never really delved into the development until recently.

Its amazing how beautiful the announcement trailer looks, while also being so different from the actual game. It's interesting that they created a beautiful trailer based on their ideas, and then had to renegotiate the ideas late into development.

The trailer still looks amazing, 7-years later. Totally unrelated to the game, but amazing nonetheless.

Just beat this game for the first time!

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 11:34 AM PDT

    Hey everyone!

I've been trying to complete the DS series recently, and have just finished the second one in the series.

I've been loving the series so far, but felt that the 2nd game was a little too easy compared to the first one, Especially the final boss.

The lvl system was a bit weird too, hope they reverted it back in the 3rd game (I know nothing about DS3)

There were also too many bonfires imo. I felt like I was being rewarded far too easily in this game.

Overall, a good game and I'd play it again. The first one will still have to be my favorite thus far though. Excited to play/finish the 3rd one :) Just gotta wait for it to go on sale haha

why do they call them alone knight when they always are together with like 30 other knight?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 01:56 AM PDT

After six years I finally got all achievements.

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 12:18 PM PDT

My first achievements on the game dates back to 7 Jun 2014 and today I got the last one https://imgur.com/a/2TgHhgj

Also, I first finished the game way back in 2016. Just now I got to play with magic and my take is that MIRACLES ARE FUN!

I even had a semi Gwyn Lord of Cinder moment when I started blasting lightning bolts towards the Guardian Dragon!

    Question for bow users

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 07:35 AM PDT

So i'm thinking about trying out bows, and was wondering.

Is there any equipment other than rings that can be useful for running a bow?

I know some pieces of equipment have stat buffs for various things like Sanctum Warrior Gauntlets increase poison buildup, or a prisoner piece increases luck.

Is there anything like this i can equip to buff my Bow of Want? Even if it's just buffing the lightning damage from the heavy attack. (Rings excluded)

My personal No Death Run Curse

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 08:00 AM PDT

I just wanne know if iam the only one.

But pretty much 90% of my deaths happen in the first 20-30 Minutes when i pick up my Session from yesterday or the last couple Days.

Its always the same like this time. I played for several Hours yesterday doing a Sorcery only Run, already got my infused Staff of Wisdom +3, had my 50 INT rolling ect.

So i started the Game 20 Minutes ago in Majula and thought i get the Branch of Yore from the Wharf to get access to more Twinkling Titanite.

So i cleared the Area with the 3 Dogs got the Item right next to the Pharros Symbol, drop down, run up again, somehow trigger the sleeping Hollow and the Dog this time. Both follow me, i shoot 2 times right over the head of the Dog because sorcery, get hit from behind by fire arrows, roll around to get some space, end up in a Corner and get clubbed to death by a Dog and a Hollow.

Its so fucking typical that i die to such bullshit, but it never happen in a longer playing session, always the next Day or after a break.

I realy wonder why this happens. Iam 100% sure that something in my Brain havent switched to serious mode and needs close to an hours to be ready.

Does such stuff happens to anyone else? Or is this my personal super power? ^

Crown of the Old King first impression

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 10:56 AM PDT

I finished DS2 main story, beat almost every boss on first try and enjoyed every second of this game. I also enjoyed the 1st dlc and it's dragon boss. I finished them all with 42 human effegies in my inventory.

But Crown of Old King sucked bug time! The areas were okay, I had no trouble with brume tower but the bosses...Fume Knight and Sir Aloone fight were unfair and I'm saying it as a DS3 veteran. I never summoned npcs for fight but I had no choice for these cunts and still they were a pain in the ass! I finished the dlc with 9 human effegies.

I had to go through all those ninjas to face Aloone who is a ninja demigod and 1 hit took 90% of my hp and I'm wearing improved Drakeblood armor and dodge most of his moves.

DS2 is my favorite souls game so far.

Should I play Ivory King? I fear itll disappoint me.

What are some good additional weapons for a quality build besides the claymore? I am also willing to accept suggestions of a boss weapon or a twinkling titanite weapon

    5th Giant Soul?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 09:19 AM PDT

I'm pretty sure I did the 3 memories in the normal game. I killed the dragon for the 4th. I killed the 2 giants in the cave in the gulch, but never got a 5th. Is there something I'm missing?

Or maybe I did get the soul from the 2 giants and missed a memory?

Do you think they'll release Dark Souls 2 for the Nintendo Switch?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 10:31 PM PDT

When I first saw the release date of Dark Souls: Remastered for the Switch, I was super hyped. After all these years, I'm still playing it. Wherever I go to, I can bring my Nintendo Switch and play Dark Souls: Remastered.

So, in any case, will there be a Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin for the Nintendo Switch? If so, when?
