    Absolute Chad Spartanus

    Posted: 19 Sep 2020 08:35 AM PDT

Hey Fellow Undead,I have been trying to kill Kalameet for the past few hours to little avail. Some bloke named Spartanus made himself available for summoning before the boss and judging by how he played he was definitely a lot better than me, but he died about 2/3 of the way. I did manage to beat Kalameet somehow though, and I'd just like to thank this absolute unit who helped me out! If you're out there, you have my eternal thanks!PS, my name was Tarick IV

Edit: I just passed on the favor and helped defeat Kalameet in someone else's world. Jolly cooperation!

    Kind invader :)

    Posted: 19 Sep 2020 07:22 PM PDT

This literally happened like five minutes ago but I was trying to fight kalameet when I got invaded right before his fog door. This kinda blue invader wearing Mask of the Father (If you are on this sub sorry about forgetting your name) he just emoted for a bit and I'm pretty sure he realized I was trying to head to the boss because he didn't attack me or anything. After a bit of emoting I went towards the fog door, waved, he waved back, and I entered the boss and proceeded to get my ass kicked again. I just wanted to share this because I usually get really toxic invaders who send rude messages after killing me, it was my first time getting a kind invader.

Experiencing the game for the 1000 time and... omg it's still awesome

    Posted: 19 Sep 2020 05:39 PM PDT

I played the 3 dark souls a countless number of time and i just finished a ds2 run and decided to play DS remastered... but I played it so many times... so I decided to try to reexperience it like if it were the first time (my knowledge of the gameplay apart). Took a useless gift at the beginning, no shortcut, trying to take a game progress route that a new player playing blind would take... I'm trying to feel again the emotions I felt when I first played this game (it was my first souls), trying to forget all that I know and look around, all the little things I wasn't been noticing anymore.

And I feel great!! I haven't been through blight town for so long, with a + 4 axe as a bandit. It's so powerful what this game make you feel oh man I'm overwhelmed. I know that the first souls you play may be your favorite but OMG the connection between every area is so impressive. The art is gorgeous... I must confess that no other souls game feels that perfect to me. The loneliness... is real. I didn't feel that way in ds2 or 3.

    What a fuckin' great game!!

    Adorable vagrants...

    Posted: 19 Sep 2020 08:50 PM PDT

Is it me or are vagrants not the cutest thing ever? The white ones that shoot the projectiles especially Everytime I stumble onto one, I get giddy and start laughing. They try so hard to get ya! And the little hop they do before shooting the projectiles... just adorable.

First playthrough and I have a few questions.

    Posted: 19 Sep 2020 08:56 PM PDT

So as the title would lead you to believe, I am currently on my first playthrough of the game. I personally love challenging games and this is my first run in with any of the soulsbourne franchise. All of my friends have said these games are incredibly hard and that they have lost many a controller to them.

I just got through blight town and I am having one hell of a time, I am in love with this game completely. But I just feel like the difficulty was a little overhyped. I wanted to see what long time fans of the series had to say.

How did your first playthrough go? Did you find it is challenging as it was made out to be? Has Dark souls become less difficult when they remastered it?

These are just a few questions that I had currently in the game. Thank you guys for taking the time to read this far into the post. This community has been so welcoming already, I cannot express how refreshing that is lol.

    Having Problems With Moonlight Butterfly

    Posted: 19 Sep 2020 08:49 PM PDT

I'm doing no damage whatsoever in this area, and not even sure if i'm supposed to be here. Im level 12, and have killed the first boss and met Solaire, and Onion Knight so far.

I can't summon the Beatrice, even though I consumed a 'Humanity' so i'm not sure what to do here. Did I come here too early? Do I take a different path?

How does the World work in DS?

    Posted: 20 Sep 2020 12:19 AM PDT

I'll make it clear here. All the three titles are set in a specific continent (Lordran, Drangleic..), the one where the first flame rests and can be kindle. At a certain point I started wondering what happens in the whole world, as it is never mentioned. Do other countries and continents exist? Do they depend on that same flame, and suffer the same curse? Even though this is never mentioned, I think that the answer should be yes, as the games give some hints about this. A very recurrent theme in I and II is that persons, when cursed, all move instinctively toward the first flame (to preserve it, even though they don't really know why they should). In the third title, are lands themselves that converge toward the first flame. In all the cases, it looks like the whole world is looking toward the first flame, so that it is natural to assume that, if the fire subsides, the whole world will become dark.

But at this point, will this happen at the same time everywhere? Or slowly, with the dark enveloping land after land? For example, killing Gwyndolin shows that the light in Anor Londo is fake, but in other parts of Lordran we still have the sun.

Lastly, it would be also interesting to know the international relations in this world. I mean, the destiny of the whole world lays in a single kingdom, where the first flame burns. Are all the other continents aware of that? Do they pay tributes or something? Do they fight against each others to conquest the first flame?

Tell me what you think. I'm sure I overlooked important aspects in my thought.

    Artorias Bossfight

    Posted: 19 Sep 2020 09:44 AM PDT

I just beated Artorias on my 4th try. What can i say. It is the best boss i've ever fought in all the games i've ever Played. I thought that Gehrman (Bloodborne) was the best, but when i fought Artorias it was a whole another level. Amazing, my favorite boss.

Thank You Solaire (The Joys of Summoning)

    Posted: 20 Sep 2020 12:07 AM PDT

So earlier this year I started my journey through the Dark Souls trilogy. I just finished DS2 SotFS, and since I'm waiting for a sale on DS3 I decided to start a second playthrough of the first one.

My first time through both games, I never summoned, not NPCs or other players. For some reason it just felt a bit like cheating to me; I'd always imagined Dark Souls as the pinnacle of solo gaming challenge, and it was something I wanted to take on without any kind of assistance, whether it be from other players or in-game characters. So I beat 1 and 2 with no summoning, and boy was it tough but I'm proud that I did it. And since I hadn't played either before, it's not like I knew if it was much harder this way.

So having just finished 2 and waiting for a sale on 3, I started another playthrough of 1 to go back and compare it to 2. And I didn't really think about whether or not I'd do any summoning this time, but I got to the Gaping Dragon fight and happened to be human at the time. I saw Solaire's sign, and figured it'd be fun to summon him for a change.

As much as I'm glad I went without summoning the first time through for the challenge, I realize now that I really did miss out on a wonderful part of the game. When you're in a world as dark and dangerous as that of Dark Souls, having someone else join you to face the challenge (even if it's just an AI) gives you a wonderful feeling of comfort and companionship. I'm sure it's even better when it's a friend or even a friendly stranger, and not just an NPC. Not only that, but the actual fight was so much easier. Solaire kept the dragon's focus while I dealt damage, and we got it down to about a quarter of its health before Solaire died. I felt a little bad that he didn't make it all the way through, but he was a huge help for as long as he managed to stay.

I just wanted to share how I discovered the joy of summoning, and my newfound love for these games in general. I'm sure it's nothing new to most of you, but like I said I only started playing these earlier this year, and they've already become some of my favorite experiences in gaming. Can't wait until I can get my hands on 3, and then probably gobbling up every Souls-like I can find after that.

    Praise the sun!

Which Dark Souls edition should I buy? (New Player)

    Posted: 19 Sep 2020 11:25 PM PDT

Hey! I've never played Dark Souls before, but with the Demon's Souls trailer I got really interested. I browsed Steam looking for the three Dark Souls games because I heard it's better to play them all and in order, but there are different editions of the first two games, which ones should I get? Thanks!

    In Regards To “Dragon Form”

    Posted: 19 Sep 2020 11:08 PM PDT

Ok, I'm unsure if anyone else has extensively covered this specific aspect of the game's series. But, I cannot help but think of how the dragon form ability gradually progressed into what it is by Dark Souls 3. In Dark Souls 1, the player looks genuinely healthy and very dragon like once they transform themselves, however by DS3 they look extraordinary malnourished, skinny and look nothing like the Archdragons of Lordran. Perhaps this may be because of the continuing cycles, maybe it may be because the art of "becoming dragon" is much like that of casting miracles, where it's simply the case that the proper method was lost? Please comment below what you guys think, oh and of course feel free to correct me if I have made any mistakes.

    Fuck Gwyn

    Posted: 19 Sep 2020 01:02 PM PDT

This is my first playthrough of DS1. I finished DS3 thrice (NG, NG+ & one run of the Cinders mod) and I played DS2 up until the Shrine of Amana, where I hurriedly uninstalled the game and never looked back. It took me four attempts to beat Ornstein and Smough; three attempts to put Seath to sleep; three to provide Artorias his much-deserved rest. I tried at least 6 times to kill this Gwyn motherfucker and he blows me to smithereens within minutes. I hate him more than I hate the Soul of Cinder. Thanks for listening to my TedTalk.

    A Novice's Appreciation Post

    Posted: 19 Sep 2020 05:01 PM PDT

I just started DS:R two weeks ago. I finished my first play session after arriving at Firelink Shrine two weeks ago. Since then, I had not played until today. Life has been frustrating and difficult, and I wanted a relaxing game to play: so I tried to play Minecraft.

It crashed several times, and I decided to give DS some time. That was the best thing that's happened to me recently! I loved just slowly grinding the Undead Burg, exploring all of the books, getting my butt kicked by the Black Knight, and then figuring out how to beat it. That catharsis was what I needed during this rough stretch.

Thank you Dark Souls, I needed that today
