I just beat Ornstein and Smough!!!!

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 09:01 PM PDT

This is my first playthrough of Dark Souls, and I was able to beat Ornstein and Smough on my third try! I actually stopped trying to beat them after my a few tries and grinded a few levels and practiced dodging for a while, but I decided to attempt them again tonight, and on my second try I succeeded! I feel like I was able to keep going and attempting them because, even though they were super tough, it was just so fun fighting them. Know I feel super good about myself, like I'm closer to gitting gud

I beat Ornstein and Smough solo for the first time!!

    Posted: 17 Sep 2020 12:43 AM PDT

As far as I could remember, I've always relied on our incandescent sunbro Solaire for help against Thicc Boy and Pikachu.

But today, I decided to Solaire a day off and went at them by myself, and after many MANY tries, I eventually came out on top!

It's been 20 minutes and my hearts still pounding!

So, yay for me I guess, it only took me nine years 😂

Overall, I'd give it a solid 9/10. Folks weren't kidding calling this an essential gaming experience. You really have to try it out at least once. It may not be my favourite soulsborne game as I fell for Bloodborne first but I can see why so many people love the original dark souls even to this day. It is one of the most influential games to ever exist, and for a game that's almost a decade old, i'd say it has aged incredibly well. Looking forward to playing Dark Souls 2 SOTFS, I've heard it's not as good but ill check it out w/ an open mind and maybe do another stat check for that one. Thanks for checking this post out [Y]/

Edit: Since there have been a lot of doubts in the comments I just wanna clarify that none of the stats here are embellished in any way. Ever since Bloodborne, I keep a notebook while playing to keep track of certain things like pathways and locked doors but i did check out some guides on how to reach certain bosses such as Gwyndolin because I didn't want to miss any. Also, I got most of my tips for some areas from this sub so thanks guys!

    An Embarrassing Death

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 09:16 PM PDT

Alright so... you know Pinwheel? Possibly the biggest waste of a boss fight ever?

Well.... I easily defeated him in like 2-3 swings BUT the second he died I got blasted by an entire room full of fireballs that just popped up out of nowhere! I believe they came from the clones that I didn't kill because why waste the time going after the clones when I can just kill Pinwheel? I ended up losing whatever item I could've gotten from Pinwheel, all the souls I got from Pinwheel (skeleton wheels killed me on the way to retrieve them), but I got the rite of kindling...

Moral of the story: Even when the boss is dead, don't expect bullshit attacks to not happen.

If you were involved in the remaster dev team, what are some "small" changes you would have made?

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 01:12 PM PDT

I say "small" because otherwise half the suggestions are gonna be "completely redesign demon ruins/izalith". I'm talking about changes that don't seem like they would have been that difficult to implement

-Make every bonfire you visited warpable (after you get lordvessel of course)

-Add a bonfire in front of BoC

-Change the standard weapon upgrade system to DS3's infusion system (no multiple types of titanite or branching upgrade paths) this would probably be the hardest change to make

-Add an endgame chunk/dragon scale/demon titanite vendor....maybe just add them to gough's inventory after killing Kalameet or Gwyn. Speaking of which....

-Allow for continued gameplay after killing gwyn

    Dog chewed my game!

    Posted: 17 Sep 2020 04:45 AM PDT

So i have no idea how they got hold of it, but one of my dogs chewed my Nintendo Switch Dark Souls cartridge and suffice to say it no longer works. They managed to get into my switch case on the side and pull that ONE game out. I suppose I should be thankful but I am gutted and just had to rant.

    Thank you for your time.

    Posted: 17 Sep 2020 04:39 AM PDT

Honestly really fun and I'm excited to go back through in NG+ but my roommates told me I should complete the DLC before fighting Gwyn, and in doing so I feel like the difficulty of Artorias and Manus made Gwyn feel very easy(I don't parry or backstab) am I alone in this?

    I'm fast as fuck boi.

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 11:26 PM PDT

Child mask, grass crest shield, chloianthy ring. My stamina regen is as fast as with a green herb. Maybe faster.

All that combined with 40 dex 40 endurance, FaP ring and a +5 golden tracer? Its crazy I'm swinging for days. I'm down in New Londo fucking these Dark Wraiths up in 3 hits!

Whats crazy is that the game is still hard. Not infuriatingly difficult anymore, just hard. I feel like the enemy placement and environment is just so that it still keeps me on my toes. Not sure how I'll do against the 4 kings but we're gonna find out.

My First Invader, So Grossly Iridescent!

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 12:06 PM PDT

I was running through the Undead Burg when I got invaded by a friendly invader. He was stuck behind the large gate and was gesturing so I opened it for him. He dropped me so many items, more than I could ever use despite the fact I shot him by accident. He then just left. No violence. If you're out there reading this, thankyou, You made my day and I hope to pass on your generosity to others slowly. :)

    Fuck Sen's fortress

    Posted: 17 Sep 2020 04:44 AM PDT

So I was running through, finally making some progress. Talked to the onion knight, got some rings, killed the fire bomber, etc. I got the cage key and on the way back up to the fog gate, I go by these 2 cages again. I unlock one and am like "I wonder what this does?" I get in, go all the way back down, man serpent on a ledge. I roll out of the cage to circle around him and get back in to go up again. Boom! Knocked off the edge into the tar pit between two Titanite demons. Throw on the rusted iron ring and run around like a mad man trying to figure out how tf I'm supposed to get out. 10 estus later, still in the tar pit and dead. Fuck Sen's fortress...

Can we all take a moment to appreciate how nice the DS community is?

    Posted: 17 Sep 2020 04:09 AM PDT

Hey Guys. To be honest, I have never seen any community of a game or well... anything that is so friendly. There are soo many people telling about their achievements and struggles with the game and this would never be even recognised in any other Subreddit. Here all they get is encouraging words or praise. That's so nice to see and kinda odd considering how elite the games are. It's such a nice and special thing to see and I'm glad to be part of this... Well we could call it a big family.

Praise the sun guys and girls. :) \></

    Dark souls remastered build questions

    Posted: 17 Sep 2020 03:32 AM PDT

Hey guys so I just started playing dark souls remastered so I have a few questions regarding builds. I haven't played any other dark souls games.

Right now I'm just playing with a sword and shield. Putting points into vitality mostly, and a little endurance. I'll probably keep a sword and shield as my play style. Do I need to focus on specific attributes ?

I've just beaten the boss on the bridge. I think it's the first one so I'm only at the start.

Which FromSoft game has the best final boss? Poll.

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 01:39 PM PDT

    https://www.strawpoll.me/20952806

    Another poll!

What do I mean by 'Final Boss'? My definition will be a boss that unlocks your ability to go into the next New Game cycle. So this doesn't include optional bosses or DLC bosses. I am cheating a little bit here, in two ways. Firstly, for Demon's Souls, I'm putting False King Allant instead of True King as I don't think putting a slug in the poll is quite fair. Demon's Souls is by far the least popular FromSoft game anyways. Furthermore, I won't be putting The Moon Presence on this list as I think that FromSoft intended most players to have Gherman as their final boss.

    My list:

    1. Sword Saint Isshin - Isshin is, simply put, in the top two best bosses I have ever had the pleasure of playing. The music, the arena, the story, everything is so epic! Isshin FromSoft's most nuanced boss by far, he has so many moves and variations. I have beaten Sekiro twelve times and I still see moves from Isshin that I haven't seen before. He is 100% a fair boss that tests everything you learned in the game and pushes you to the limit. Furthermore, you can't over level for this fight. The fight is accompanied with one of the most badass introductions in video game history. Isshin as a character is one of my favourite characters in any FromSoft game. The rush I had when I beat him for the first time is unparalleled. A fitting end to one of the best games I have ever played.
    2. Gherman, The First Hunter - One of my complaints about Bloodborne is that it doesn't have enough hunter boss fights. The fight against Gherman is so fun, frenetic and fast paced. He is also 100% fair. The music and atmosphere is fantastic and the arena is great. There are a lot of similarities between Gherman and Isshin. But the reason why I picked Isshin over Gherman is because Isshin is by far the harder boss whilst being just as fair, and I spent a lot of time talking to Isshin on the first playthrough whilst I didn't talk to Gherman that much. Honestly, I did find Gherman quite creepy when he talked about how I could use anything (even the doll) which did kinda ruined the mood of the fight. I ain't feeling sad for killing a sex fiend.
    3. Soul of Cinder - I immediately put Soul of Cinder below Isshin and Gherman as he isn't a character you can grow to love. However, SoC does have the spectacle with him. You are in the Kiln of The First Flame, with three games of momentum behind you, you want to end a fruitless cycle. The arena is absolutely beautiful, the music is one of the best in the series hands down. The fight itself is epic! In terms of difficulty, he is fairly difficult, but not as hard as the DLC bosses and the Nameless King. He is up there with Pontiff, Dancer and Lorian. He is mostly fair besides the BS charge attack. His delayed attacks are way too forgiving as you can simply panic roll and he still won't get you. He can also stagger frequently. The first phase does feel like you are fighting four generic bosses instead of one actual boss. His second phase is too similar to Gwyn. SoC doesn't have his own identity. He is also grossly overshadowed by the DLC bosses which can't be said for Gherman.
    4. Gwyn - First of all, I really like how this boss fight isn't accompanied by epic music. Instead it is sad. This fits the mood of the game perfectly. Besides that. This boss has one big problem. If you can parry, then this boss becomes your bitch. If you can't, then this boss becomes way too aggressive and fast. People say Manus is aggressive, Gwyn is aggresive to an almost unfair degree.
    5. Nashandra - Its an okay battle.

Question to for PVE character optimization

    Posted: 17 Sep 2020 02:55 AM PDT

    In short:
I want to to use most abilities to their full potential and have a character that is able to do anything. That is pretty much "min-maxing", but I am not that good at the game and additional options can help me at getting creative (also I want the 100% achievement run and New Game ++ will kill me, if I do not preper).

So if I understood everything right:
Every stat has more or less a soft/hardcap that takes any reason from actually leveling that stat any further.
Like Strength maxing at 40 and after that only increasing damage by miniscule numbers for 59 additional levels.
Endurance also should only be leveled till 40, just like Vitality. Both of them have a "softcap". Faith and Intelligence are useful for miracles and pyromancies. Both of them cap around 40. And Dexterity should be leveled to 45 for maximum casting speed.
For Attunement: Hardcap is at 50, but stopping before seems smart, as I probably do not need so many slots.

So a character for almost anything in PvE would look like this:
    Vitality 40+
Endurance 40(+depending on Weight as one still gradually increase capacity)
    Strength 40+
Attunement at 19 should be more than enough. Resistence should be minimal.
    Dexterity at 45
Faith and Intelligence should be 40 too.

    Are my observations correct?

    Gwyn help

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 05:26 AM PDT

Alright, 6 years from the time I first picked up DS on 360, I'm finally taking on Gwyn on remastered for PS4. I've attempted the fight no less than 30 times and and I've gotten him below 25% health a few times but can't seal the deal. I've decided to go the parrying route and have a mace +15 and divine claymore +10 using the cleric knight build recommended on this sub. One of the YouTube videos I watched shows him being staggered after every riposte and he definitely doesn't do that for me. I could use that extra time from the stagger to heal. Any recommendations on weapons/stats to stagger? Before any judgement, I'm 40 and have an 11 mo old daughter so my gaming is limited these days and want to move on to the next game in my back catalogue.

Edit: Praise the sun! Gwyn is no more. Thanks for all the help.

    Questions about progress route

    Posted: 17 Sep 2020 01:21 AM PDT

Been playing the game progression like this most of the time,

Undead Burg & Parish, Depths, Blighttown, Sens, Anor, Darkroot, New Londo, Crystal Cave, Izalith, Tombs, DLC, Kiln.

I wanted to ask if there is other routes to progress in terms of difficulty, because some areas seemed over levelled with the progression I followed. Also, some npc questline are altered or skipped without me knowing with this progression. Any guide or thoughts are appreciated.

Also, other challenge progression routes are also welcomed, as I can try them out as well.

Why the fuck is Blighttown so hard to navigate? I came here from the Depths and have the master key, i have also been here very early through Valley Of Drakes. I am trying to go from the Depths side, over to the Valley side. So i can get to firelink. Does anyone have tips for making your way around this literal shit hole?
