    Love this community, man.

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 12:32 AM PDT

I recently have been on here going for the Platinum. I posted a story about getting it but I wanted to highlight the absolute best part of the journey!

I got one playthrough in as part of a campaign through the trilogy. Then I played around. I got the Plat for DS3, then 1R. 2:SotFS was my last to go in the trilogy.

Honestly every trophy looked easy besides Sunbros' spell being locked behind thirty co-ops. I worried immeasurably that the community on PS4 might have dried up after 5 years.

I was wrong. You guys are still going strong. But anyway, I started fresh, I went the whole game with maybe one or two co-ops. A few random drops and by NG+ in the Iron Keep I only had 12 medals of the required thirty. I honestly thought all hope was lost when out of the blue I get invaded for the first time in days.

I want to preface this by saying Msheedy99 is the GOAT. He has the Moonlight Blade and I have the Aged Smelter Sword. We have this epic duel I'm just barely able to win after switching to my bone fists.

Now, I'm desperate at this point so I put out a hail mary. I message him through "players you've just met." I ask him if he'll join the sunbros and aid me through one or two bosses. Msheedy agrees. He's at the end of his NG+ so he has access to all fires.

Thus began an epic partnership as we fought through boss after boss, asceticing a few, and bam... I have 29 medals.

The last medal I get, my thirtieth, it's helping him kill Nashandra in his world. And there we left it, we parted ways...

That was until I returned to Iron Keep hours later to hand in some dragon scales. I see a fog wall go up by the entrance. I was being invaded. The words flash on screen... I can't believe it.

Msheedy99 was the final boss in my NG+ run. It was the perfect betrayal, like Anakin versus Obi-wan level "fuck you, you were my brother." As we fought, there was a single tear in my eye. I remembered all the battles, all the losses... The Shrine of Ar-fuck you!

    Ahem...

But then, when I finally won our duel, I suddenly understood... This is Dark Souls.

Is it worth it to play the original after already playing SotFS?

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 08:51 AM PDT

I was just getting to the end of my first Sekiro play through and thinking about Miyazaki's games when I realised that I've only ever played the SotFS edition of DS2. Is it worth it to go back and play it, or are the changes not as drastic as I've heard?

Quick tip on farming Sunlight Medals offline

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 12:31 PM PDT

I just completed the farm for 30 medals. I did this on a strength character, so it should work on any build.

This is NG+, farming the falconer spawn closest to the Royal army campsite bonfire.

Get your drop rate increase gear on, join covenant of champions for infinite respawns, upgrade your pyromancy flame to +10 if you haven't already, and attune Flame Swathe.

At the Royal army campsite bonfire, break the cart blocking the path to the closest falconer spawn so you can get free line of sight to the enemy, and toss Flame Swathe twice on him, it should kill him. Rinse and repeat, you can be at the bonfire ready to rest as the second Flame swathe detonates.

This is the most efficient way I found to farm it. I also tried the Things Betwixt farm strategy without lighting any bonfires and just warp back each time you've killed the three falconers at the start, but it felt slower and way more stressful since it's quite easy to die.

Took on average somewhere around 25 kills per medal, which is not bad at the speed you can farm with this strategy.

Just had a jolly and wholesome Smelter Demon Round 2 (thanks to Catrapoints and Azazel!)

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 09:02 PM PDT

And by round two, I mean the blue guy in the Iron Passage.

I summoned a sunsis named Catrapoints for my third or fourth attempt to take down the blue demon. She was the first player phantom I had been able to summon for the fight. She probably did more damage to it than I did, since the best weapon I had for the beast was a +5 electric Thorned Greatsword and no lightning enchantment. We won, with only one estus left in my possession.

Delighted by my victory, I decided to make my way back to the staging room and pass the aid along, tossing my own sign down. Not long thereafter, I was summoned by Azazel--who happened to also have summoned Catrapoints! So now we were sun-sisters fighting side-by-side.

Furthermore, Azazel was rocking full Looking Glass Knight. I decided, since my humanity wasn't on the line, to switch from my Ivory King Crown to my semi-serious-business LGK helm (worn with Desert Pyromancer top & bottom and Lion Warrior bracelets, of course). And I don't know at what point this happened, but Catrapoints also threw on the LGK helmet by the time we waved and bowed our goodbyes.

If you're reading this, Azazel, sorry for not understanding the lever strategy you wanted me to do. I hadn't read that part of the area guide yet when you summoned me!

Praise the sun, brothers and sisters!

[PC SotFS] Is there a point to the blue arena at low soul level/soul memory?

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 12:41 PM PDT

I've a 209k agaped character that I use to coop Lost Bastille, who is also a blue sentinel mostly for the off-chance that I'm summoned to defend an apostle of blue while I'm waiting with my white soapstone down. Because I'd like to practice pvp a bit more I decided to try the arena. It instantly found an opponent, who had crystal soul spear, affinity, and (I think) the curved nil greatsword - with that he was clearly far higher soul level and soul memory than I could fight against at my soul memory. Before I try again, is there any point in doing the blue arena at my soul memory or will it just keep matching me against far stronger opponents that the invaders I'd fight in bastille?

I was trapped in the room with him and a Bunch of basilisks, but the end of my sword hit and killed him in one hit ( why such low HP) . Can he come back? I've progressed way to far to restart, and saved all my yore branches for this. Please

Hey guys, I’m new to the series!

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 01:47 PM PDT

I've wanted to play the series for a very long time and a couple weeks ago I broke down and bought ds1. I absolutely LOVED it. Wasn't near as hard as I thought it was going to be but regardless I loved it (beat it twice, once with dex and another with str)

Bought SOTFS last night and played for a couple hours. I'm 2 bosses in (killed last giant, and some fat boss with a halberd in the flame tower - also killed that bitch dark mage who was harder than last giant). It doesn't feel anything like ds1 but I don't hate it. The areas seem super small? Even smaller than ds1? I'm not enjoying it as much as I did ds1. Don't worry I'm gonna push through and keep giving it a chance. (Gonna beat it even if I hate it) but I don't want to hate it. I want to like it at least.

I'm looking for some tips and just general info (blow this post up) because there's a ton of changes: like started with 1 estus, burning stuff at bonfire, what are soul levels, many more attributes( I hate adp, fucking stupid that I have to put points into it to make my dodge roll better) anyways I don't hate the game but I don't necessarily like it yet. Anything y'all can think of I'd love to read! I really do love this series so far. So much so I'm even planning on playing bloodborne

Def want to play with a dex build. I severely enjoyed my dex play through more in ds1. (Unless str is just extremely better in ds2) I like to light roll

Thanks for reading guys I know it's a lot! I look forward to your responses.

That's all. Have a nice day folks.

After over 1200 hours across three platforms, I finally got off my lazy arse and platinumed the game

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 08:06 AM PDT

going to NG++ on separate characters was probably a dumb move achievement wise, but likely would've been bored with a jack of all trades character quicker, dumped souls in stats towards the end bc would've felt nervous about losing millions even though it doesn't matter lmao

putting a pic of my last character in as well for fashion souls

will end up going for 3's achievements next, probs gonna do a mixed magic character because I'm really not a fan of replaying DS3 in rapid succession and then after that I'll return here and try and gather all rings/weapons/armour on some sorta mega-monstrosity build, that won't be for a long while though, might end up documenting/streaming my efforts? not sure, only would be if anybody was interested in it at all

    Tips for the Platnium Trophy

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 11:12 AM PDT

Hey I'm quite new to Ds and just finished my first Play trough. I want to get all Trophies now. Including ''Gesture Maestro'' and for that I need to help a player kill a boss, get an Item, and learn the last gesture. The problem is, i don't find any players. My internet is good and I've put down my symbols at many bosses and waited for about 30 minutes — 1 hour at each location. Yet nothing happens. Any advice on how to get this Trophy ?

Can I cast hexes with either a staff or a chime or is it restricted?

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 10:40 AM PDT

    Hey there!

Just started playing Dark Souls 2 in Saturday and what should I say, I love it. It reminds me a lot of Dark Souls (1) and yet I don't understand the problems all the people tend to have. I think I already put 30 hours into it and am right now at Sinner's Fall / Ruin Sentries.

I wanted to reset my spent points and try out hexes as I've just recently learned about them.

I want to try Dark Orb, but it says Catalyst: Staff. Does this mean I have to equip a staff to use it? I thought hexes could be used by either a Staff or a Chime. If not, what makes them different from usual Sorceries or Miracles then?

TL;DR: when it says Catalyst: Staff at a Hex spell, can I only cast it with a Staff or can I use a Chime to cast it and a Staff just adds additional bonuses?

What level and soul memory do people usually have when they start NG+?

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 01:54 AM PDT

I just started the NG+, Im level 352 and got a souls memory of 53193966.
I spent a lot of time farming souls on my first game thats why i got so much souls memory already and people cannot summon me, I havent been summoned at all after i started farming and now on NG+ people are not summoning me.
My question is if someone will be able to summon me to help them with boss fights at some further moment on NG+ or will I have to wait for NG++?

Need advice for leveling and pvp

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 06:12 AM PDT

I'm currently playing the game the first time, my furthest bonfire I currently have unlocked is called "Rise of the Dead" at Shrine of Amana. Currently level 143 with a soul memory of almost 2 million.

To my question: should I stop leveling up at 150?

I've read that pvp is usually held at level 150 to balance things out, but personally I haven't pvped much yet, to be exact, I only got invaded once by surprise. I am currently using a Heide knight sword and shield, and my armor is focused on fashion basically.

By the way, does anyone have a good build focused on the Heide knight sword? I'm currently getting my str and fth to 40, but would like to know what to do with the other stats.

How to manage minmax at sl150?

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 02:18 AM PDT

Every time I go to the arena my opponents deal better damage than me and take less. It's clear I'm doing something wrong. I'm in the 2.5M SM bracket, so I should be finding people around my level.
For the record here's what I'm rolling with: dex build with 40 Dex, 26 agility, RoB+2, Leo Ring, Royal Soldier's Ring, Chloranthy/Agape depending on Bridge/Arena. Weapons are usually Winged Spear or Eleum Loyce GS. I usually go with Lighting/Dark resin. Armor is a medium set (infantry Helm, Eleum Loyce chest, Aalva gauntlets, Elite Knights leggins) mostly for the metallic fashion, but the defense stats aren't bad, even so I find myself often dealing 300 or less with a 2h GS R2 while taking more from a scimitar or a longsword, especially with a 2H R2. I know that the Eleum Loyce GS isn't great damage-wise, but I feel I should outdamage a Curved Sword R1. How do these guys take such low damage while dealing so much?
