Welcome to the weekly Dark Souls mod announcement and discussion thread!

Beware! Use of mods whilst connected to the internet can cause you to get banned from online play!

For more information, or to continue the discussion visit /r/ModSouls

Using mods (PC only!) to enhance or add new content to the Souls games is great fun! It is important, however, to understand that mods are against From's EULA/ToS, so there is a great risk of being banned when using them due to From's anti-cheat--which is deployed in most versions of the Souls games.

Versions of the games where modding is safe due to no anti-cheat:

Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition

Versions of the games where modding carries a very high risk of being banned:

    Dark Souls: Remastered

    Dark Souls II

Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin

    Dark Souls III

    Our recommendations for safe modding

*This advice is intended for first-time or relatively inexperienced modders who want to get into modding without risking a ban on their main Steam account.

    Basic Steps:

    Make a separate Steam account

Use Steam's Family Sharing feature to provide your new account with access to your main Steam account's game library.

Install games to be used with the new account in a separate directory.

Once you've found your mods be sure to read (and follow) the mod author's instructions carefully prior to installation.

Set Steam to "off line" mode.

Install the mods and perform any necessary setup.

Enjoy the fun and interesting experiences offered by mods!

Be sure to remove all file components of the mod before going back online!

I’m new to the souls game and need tips

    Posted: 28 Sep 2020 04:19 AM PDT

I recently bought sotfs thinking that people were just exaggerating about how hard dark souls is. I made to builds, one being a knight and the other being a sorcerer. I gave up on the knight because I had attacked just about every npc thinking that they would forget. Right now I'm playing sorcerer but I don't know what to do. I'm in the forest of fallen giants but I keep dying because I keep getting overwhelmed by hollows. I just need tips on what I should do and where I should go. Sorry if that was just a bunch of random stuff that doesn't make sense, this is my first time posting to reddit. Any help goes a long way!

Edit: I don't wanna be one of those people who make a edit for every upvote they get but 40 upvotes! That's insane! Thank you guys!

Edit: I said I wouldn't be that guy but cmon, 100 upvotes?! The dark souls community is so kind and wholesome. Thank y'all

    I absolutely love Fume Knight

    Posted: 28 Sep 2020 10:24 AM PDT

So as the title would suggest you would think I would just mention about how Fume Knight is the "git gud" boss of the series, while that is true. I have a different story to share along with the traditional praise of "git gud" being given to Fume Knight. So in my 1st playthrough i had just defeated Fume Knight(I had a dexterity build with blacksteel katana and uchigatana) and my save data had got deleted. At first I thought of just leaving the game cause i am already pretty critical of dark souls especially with the kind of bullshit this game does with you( I am talking about 1500m aggro ranges and absolutely godly hit boxes). But then for completion's sake and my sanity(kinda contradictory but I just couldn't move on to DS 3 without completing the last DLC here) I made another run with sorcerer and till Fume Knight i cheesed everything, like for example DarkLurker died in literally 10 seconds for me with unleash and souls spear, It was an absolute joke. But then cam Fume knight my most liked boss and i was barey damaging him with sorceries. I tried different stat allignments, but in the end i ended up using my build from the first playthrough with beefy boy stats( 35 vig, 25 end, vit 10, dex 55, str 21, adp 35 and the rest of the stats were the ones u get for starting as sorcerer) and i defeated him first try after that. It is lovely I-framing that bastard and rolling through his attacks cause if you time things right you will always have enough time to get 1-2 hits in with the katana or use that opening you created after dodging to heal with an estus or life gem. Also shoutout to the Knight's second phase glowey sword attack where he charges it and then swipes it horizontally it was the best attack to roll under and then attack, I loved this fight and is ptobably the only good thing I will remember from DS 2 except for maybe my darklurker cheese, that fight was an absolute massacre and for once in a souls game I can say that I wasn't the victim. Anyway thanks for reading through the whole post kind stranger. Praise The Sun

Just finished DS2 Sotfs. What a journey.

    Posted: 28 Sep 2020 01:16 PM PDT

Reeaally really enjoyed this game. I am glad I didn't listen to the haters and went for it.

That completes my From journey. I left ds2 for last after bloodborne, sekiro, ds1 and ds3 and I have to say, ds2 holds a special place. Awesome DLCs, especially Ivory King.

One of my favourite fights though was with Sir Alonne. Here is my last try against him!

Lingering Dragoncrest Ring +2 and Ring of Thorns +2

    Posted: 28 Sep 2020 06:49 AM PDT

I am baffled at the requirements for these rings. 1000 invasions and 1000 banishments? Insane in the membrane. Not that the +2 versions are significantly better (or perhaps I'm rationalizing?) but it's silly that they didn't eventually make these attainable in like NG+3 from Welleger.

So I think I just got invaded by a person for the first time?

    Posted: 28 Sep 2020 01:51 PM PDT

I can't remember his name but he had a bunch of numbers at the end.

He definitely almost killed me but I healed and killed him with a jump attack.

My question: was it a dick move to heal? He didn't, and I'm not even sure if he could. I felt bad afterwards and thought I might've breached some etiquette.

Yes, actually, I WOULD like to drop that smooth and silky stone, just like I wanted to the other ONE HUNDRED TIMES YOU STUPID MENU.

Chameleon is amazing at creating long lasting grudges

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 03:28 PM PDT

So I've decided to return to the Bell Keepers covenant after seeing that there's some activity in Belfry Sol. That and I was kinda hurting for chunks. So I decided to go with a trusty spell combo of Dark Orbs, Great Heal and, you guessed it, Chameleon.

Now since I know that being a BK member doesn't exclude you from being invaded by fellow BK's, I've done what I'd like to call a pro gamer move and immediately spam Chameleon until I either become an iron water pot or a ballista.

Got lucky with the latter and so I've waited near the bell and lo-and-behold a gray spirit invaded. Got a closer look - dude had Jester's Robes and a Smelter Hammer buffed with Dark Weapon. Just giving you a heads-up if you start feeling bad for my victim.

I kid you not the dude ran past me three times and ran around for 10 minutes like a headless fly until he realized that there isn't supposed to be a ballista in the spot I was. Naturally I spammed gestures at him while the dude tried to stunlock me with the Smelter Hammer. Alas, a big iron chicken drum simply cannot compare to a barrage of Dark Orbs, so I killed him and got meself a free chunk.

I wait again for a trespasser but I end up getting invaded by the SAME GUY. This time I camouflaged meself as an iron pot on the roof. What happened next tho was just too funny to not tell you:

He started smacking the hammer on EVERY SINGLE BALLISTA in the area. It was HILARIOUS.

In the heat of the moment I completely forgot that the dude was, effectively, a PVP tryhard and was actually rooting for him to find me - ended up breaking the camouflage instead because he just started wasting time hitting on walls instead. And like the previous encounter, he ended up dead by my hand.

After that I finally get a trespasser - unfortunately I didn't invade in the right spot for camoing but it didn't really matter, the trespasser was an unfortunate sorcerer who didn't realize it was a bad idea to fight with slow-casting sorceries against a fast casting hexer.

Second time I invade, same trespasser only he starts running around in circles and begins fulfilling his destiny by becoming the ultimate Estus chugger. After a couple of minutes an another grey spirit arrives, and - you guessed it - it was the same one that invaded me.

Then he tried to hit me.

The dude, in his rage, forgot that gray spirits can't harm each other. Still, the moment I saw his swing go right through me I couldn't help but burst in laughter.

So yeah, decided to share this little PVP experience. And if, by any chance, the invader recognizes me from this post, I just wanna say...

    Git gud.

    Just Starting Out after DS1

    Posted: 28 Sep 2020 09:49 AM PDT

    Hi group,
I am just starting out in DS2 and so far I am enjoying the fact that the game is still Dark Souls though different enough that it could almost be a different game. From what I am experiencing so far, I would say that this game may be a little under-rated because it is rife with good frustrating challenge! Cheers :)

Planning on getting Scholar of the first Sin. What sort of build should I go for in my first Run?

    Posted: 28 Sep 2020 01:23 PM PDT

In both Ds1 and Ds3 I like to often do one run, then eventually another as a cosplay build, so I wanna know what is a good build for my first run

    I did it!

    Posted: 28 Sep 2020 02:34 AM PDT

I just finished my NDNB run. Jesus christ was this difficult. I believe it is even more difficult than a SL1 because of the fact that your equipment is always going to be at risk or break. The scarcity of repair powder makes it even worse until you reach Chancellor Wellager.

Aldia experimented on a Capra Demon

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 06:32 PM PDT

"The peculiar figure known as Lord Aldia attempted to
uncover the secrets of life itself"

    https://ibb.co/n3zMNZX

Location: Aldia's Keep, acid pool accessed via the alchemist lab or a drop down in a sinister research room. Possibly, a Capra Demon skull can be found here with twisted horns, and there's even two malformed dogs keeping him company.

"In the far eastern outskirts of Drangleic lies an old manor that is now long forgotten."

Aldia was condemned here by his brother Vendrick when they disagreed on how to find "the truth" about the secrets of life in an attempt to overcome the curse. Aldia viewed the Undead as a key to this mystery. In the manor, Aldia continued his experiments in seclusion, creating monstrous creatures from his guests, and he even tried to recreate a dragon. A number of the experiments were literally dumped into The Gutter to live out their wretched existence out of sight.

Unspeakable magic was performed here, and the cruel fate of the residents gave way to powerful artifacts and dangerous spells. Some of the greatest minds converged here to perform strange rituals behind closed doors. Their actions may not have been their own though; an unknown force may have been manipulating them."

Is there much difference in 100% achievement runs between DKS2 Vanilla and SotFS?

    Posted: 28 Sep 2020 12:57 AM PDT

I'm currently returning to many of my favorite Fromsoft games to try and grab all of the achievements. I've started playing DKS2 (vanilla) normally, seeing how a lot of 100% achievement guides only cover SotFS, but now I'm wondering if there's even much of a difference between the two?

I know SotFS requires all of the DLC content, which is why I opted for DKS2 vanilla.

Does anybody knowledgeable know if spell locations or NPC quest rewards vary enough to mix and match guides between the two different versions of the game? Any information at all could be helpful. Also, I'm not worried about spoilers, I've already beaten the game before.

    Thanks!

    I cant take this...

    Posted: 28 Sep 2020 10:11 AM PDT

I am at Iron keep (or something like that, lava stuff...) and theres more knights there than stars in the universe, and usually 3 runs at you, and you die instantly... I thought that I cleared the most and new guys appear and kill me. I gotta take a break from this game... I played through dark souls 1 three times and I platinumed it and I never had this feeling. I just dont enjoy the gank fest everywhere approach in ds2. Im sorry if it sounds like a rant but I want to finish this game, but I cant do it rn.

    Manscorpion Tark's weapon Unidentifiable?

    Posted: 28 Sep 2020 08:52 AM PDT

So I was going through a video showing all the NPCs being killed to catalog what weapons they use when provoked. I noticed something puzzling, a weapon I could not identify. When Manscorpion Tark is either provoked through attacks or is summoned as a white phantom to fight Najka he uses a halberd with a profile that doesn't appear to match any player weapon from Dark Souls 2 (or 1). It is slightly difficult to see it in the NPC death compilation video so I found another one that shows the weapon when the NPC is summoned.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3_a8OLOrLw

It has a blade on the tip, a blade sticking out perpendicular from the top of the shaft, and a blade running parallel below the shaft. It is similar to the Blue Knight's Halberd. but it is not the Blue Knight's Halberd. Was this a weapon that was cut from the game or something?
