/r/DarkSouls2 - Modding Monday. Posted: 20 Sep 2020 11:13 PM PDT Welcome to the weekly Dark Souls mod announcement and discussion thread! Beware! Use of mods whilst connected to the internet can cause you to get banned from online play! For more information, or to continue the discussion visit /r/ModSouls Using mods (PC only!) to enhance or add new content to the Souls games is great fun! It is important, however, to understand that mods are against From's EULA/ToS, so there is a great risk of being banned when using them due to From's anti-cheat--which is deployed in most versions of the Souls games. Versions of the games where modding is safe due to no anti-cheat: Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition Versions of the games where modding carries a very high risk of being banned: Dark Souls: Remastered Dark Souls II Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin Dark Souls III Our recommendations for safe modding *This advice is intended for first-time or relatively inexperienced modders who want to get into modding without risking a ban on their main Steam account. Basic Steps: Make a separate Steam account Use Steam's Family Sharing feature to provide your new account with access to your main Steam account's game library. Install games to be used with the new account in a separate directory. Once you've found your mods be sure to read (and follow) the mod author's instructions carefully prior to installation. Set Steam to "off line" mode. Install the mods and perform any necessary setup. Enjoy the fun and interesting experiences offered by mods! Be sure to remove all file components of the mod before going back online!Helpful Information for New Users Be sure to check the /r/DarkSouls2/wiki page, where you can find community-created tips and research threads. Something I don't see discussed enough Posted: 21 Sep 2020 12:32 PM PDT So just plugged back into ds2 after beating ds3 and bloodborne again, and the raw power of the fashion souls in DS2 is so underrated! Loaded up a lv 148 character and had an inventory full of the sickest gear, far superior to ds3 [link] [comments] |
Don't forget about the kinky tree if someone breaks all your shit Posted: 21 Sep 2020 09:55 AM PDT If someone (hacker or otherwise) breaks your stuff you can whip the tree in Sunken King dlc to repair all fully broken equipped gear without raising SM. Hit it with a guard break to make sure it doesn't die. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 20 Sep 2020 05:17 PM PDT I was doing some thinking today and I came upon a realization that I dont think is very widely addressed in the souls franchise. Fair Warning: Some Spoilers ahead, not to mention some theories as well Now we all know that Vendrick ends up hollow and aimlessly wandering in the undead crypt when we come across him, but if you had the misfortune of trying to kill him upon first meeting him you will have very quickly found out that he wouldnt be so easy. I for one wacked him once and thought "What?! Its impossible to beat a boss when I do like 5 damage a hit." Basically Vendrick has a gargantuan pool of health and an astronomical level of defense. This got me thinking, because there is no other boss in the series like this. To even do remote damage on him you need to have at least two to three giant souls. Without these souls hes virtually unbeatable, even a hollowed version of himself. If he werent hollowed and his attacks matched his defenses, there would be literally nothing that could stand up to him. I believe that Vendrick was the most powerful being in the entire souls series/the cycle of fire. Now some more thoughts and questions about this:
For the first question - I believe that Vendrick was the next in the cycle of the chosen undead. He went out and defeated the reincarnations of the 4 great ones long ago and became powerful enough to link the first flame, but it is my belief that he chose the path to abandon the first flame and take the mantle of dark lord. This meant that the fire faded and darkness reigned, but with darkness the abyss grew stronger. It had eventually dissipated with the defeat of Manus, but the remaining fragments grew and searched for hosts in the four queens, the weakest shard being Nashandra. Nashandra covets the first flame and covers the power she could gain from it, but Vendrick let it die. She urges Vendrick to cross the Sea and defeat the giants, I believe because they have another way to link the fire, the Throne of Want. Vendrick goes and defeats the giants, bringing back the throne of want as his prize. Now not only does he have the power from the four great souls and the giants he defeated, but he also had the power from the throne of want. He used this power to "make magnificent findings on souls" by doing things such as creating the soul powered golems he used to build Drangleic Castle. I believe at this point he was at the height of his power, the point where no one in existence, past, present, or future could have challenged him. As for the second question - Vendrick was at the height of his power but all was not well. The curse of the undead only raged rampant because of the lack of the linking of the fire since Vendrick let the flame die out. Being a good king, he wanted to end the suffering of his subjects, and perhaps even tried sitting upon the Throne of Want himself, as evidenced by the smaller throne cut into the big throne. Unfortunately for him, he could not link the fire without the giant's kinship, so that wasn't an option for him. He most likely searched for another way to end the curse with the help of his brother, Aldia. At some point he became perturbed by Aldia's methods and banished him to his manor where he continued his practices alone. At some point he must have realized there wasn't any real way to stop the curse without the linking of the fire and began to loose cause, the accursed fate of any undead. He retreated to the undead crypt in shame and slowly lost hope until he was completely hollow. He then proceeded to remain there for a long long time. Finally, the third question - It really stumped me why this great powerful king, who had all he could ever want would stash his soul in some hole and go become a gross green rasin. This was most likely due to Nashandra. While he was loosing faith in finding a cure for the curse, I think he was still worried about what would become of his subjects under Nashandra. I believe he started to suspect of her true intentions after recovering the throne of want. Nashandra seeks power, being the smallest and most lustful fragment of Manus. I think she saw Vendrick as a source of power and intended to take his power once he was weakened in the undead crypt. That is why I believe Velstadt is corrupted with the dark even though he was never in or near the abyss, he fended off Nashandra from Vendrick but became corrupted in the process. She was after his soul, but Vendrick was prepared even if she were to get to him. He stashed his soul away from where Nashandra could get it, a hidden book in the shrine of Amana behind a door only accessible by a human to keep Nashandra out. Now I had one final question after considering all of this, how does out character emerge in all of this and defeat this impossibility strong character? I believe that after a long while of the curse perpetuating in the world, those burdened by the curse were lured to Drangliec, the land rumored to hold the cure for the curse. This is where we become known as "Bearer of the Curse" rather than "Chosen Undead," who is Vendrick. When vendrick separated his soul from his body it lost much of its power, allowing the four great ones to be reincarnated and defeated by the bearer of the curse. The bearer of the curse proceeds to be able to reach Vendrick after becoming very powerful themselves. They find that if they try to kill Vendrick his defense is insurmountable, but giant souls degrade his defences. I believe that in splitting his soul from his body he still retained much of his power but became vulnerable to the scathing wrath of the giants, whose power he used to possess himself. The thing that blows my mind about Vendrick is that there was no one more powerful, and he was an undead just like us. If it werent for him separating his soul, going hollow, and the giants wrath, there wouldnt be any killing him as he would be quite invincible. This means that each of us undead also possesses that possibility. Anyhow thanks for sticking through if you made it down here, you're a true scholar of Dark Souls lore! [link] [comments] |
Just parried a player for the first time. Posted: 21 Sep 2020 05:36 AM PDT I parried a player in the BoB on accident, had the bone fist on my left hand and forgot that L2 was parry instead of the strong attack and parried his spear. Edit: Forgot to mention I still lost anyway :/ [link] [comments] |

Posted: 21 Sep 2020 09:58 AM PDT I just started playing ds2 and playing pretty heavily, I gotta say I love it. I've clocked 500 hrs into ds1 remaster and besides the detail being in my opinion better and combat style smoother, ds2 gives you an unbelievable amount options for weapons, shields, so much armor! Spells, items, etc. Lots of bosses! I also love the leveling style more to think about. And so many bonfires! [link] [comments] |
An invader invaded me when i was idol and when i came back i got a bunch of stuff. Posted: 21 Sep 2020 11:31 AM PDT Did he just give it to me because he wanted to free his inventory space or not? [link] [comments] |
Arsenal of the Awful: Reinforced Club and Bows Posted: 20 Sep 2020 07:25 PM PDT THAT'S RIGHT, today's a double doozie because the Reinforced Club has way too damn little to shit on or praise, so i'm also going to be teaching you all how to make a SM efficient, PvP efficient Bow build that works surprisingly well to the point where you can kind of melee fight with it (not even meming, and you'll soon see. First the reinforced club, tho). The Reinforced Club is...honestly a bit of a tragedy since it's objectively worse than the standard Club. "But it has higher damage!" you say, but also remember that all hammers have high base damage but no one uses them outside of early-mid PvE because they're ass past Iron Keep. The Reinforced Club in this manner has the absolute GARBAGE underhand sweep 1-handed moveset as well as the obligatory useless garbage 2-handed hammer moveset, with its awful long-windup obligatory hammer running R1. This means that only the rolling R1 with its quick slam and the R2s are useful...making this and all other underhand sweep hammers somehow less efficient than slam jamming with a greatshield. And the rotten cherry on top? It has shit durability so in the long haul, literally any other hammer does more overall work by virtue of being able to hit things longer and better. It's baffling that the not-shit hammer weapons are crafting tools (Craftsman Hammer and Blacksmith Hammer are surprisingly legit good, as well as the Homonculus Mace) and the hammers designed for actual combat are ass. This is because the weapon making hammers and the tumor mace have the straight sword-esc quick sweep R1 with better reach and speed, making them so, SO much better than the underhand sweep hammers. Hell, the regular Club has the quick, slashing sweep moveset too and A strength scaling, making it legit much better than its nail-ridden counterpart in every way. Really, the Reinforced Club's reliance on 1-handed R2s and rolling R1s make it predictable, but also surprisingly decent vs backstab fishers since the R2 chains have a greathammer-style spinning smack that tracks 360 degrees around you...and that's it. If your opponent can out-reach you, which they probably will since hammers have ass reach, then you're screwed. That is how little i have to say about the Reinforced Club, which is a shame because it has a surprisingly incredible DkS1 legacy as the go-to SL1 challenge run weapon of choice, carrying many speedrunners and Lobos Jr with its low requirements and respectable damage output. This ain't DkS3 when it EVENTUALLY made hammers decent by slapping on poise to the 2-handed moveset (woooow...the easiest, laziest way to automatically make a light weapon viable made it viable, who would have thought?): DkS2 hammers are mostly complete trash and thoroughly uninteresting to the point where shitting on them is difficult because there's so little to talk about. Also, they don't break shield guard stamina any better than any other weapon so that's a item description lie. So now i'm going to shut up about it and go to bows, since very few people seem to realize that bows in DkS2 are actually OP asf. Why? How? Because there's a piss easy setup that certain arena tryhards actually have as an emergency last resort that's quite baffling in how much cheese it is. Bows in DkS2 when properly upgraded, infused, and used in conjunction with elemental arrows actually hit really damn hard with little risk at melee combat. Yes, you are not going insane, i said melee combat. This is because bows in DkS2 are functionally even more bullshit than DkS3's Lightning Arrow miracle because they have almost no post-shot recovery, so you can just knock an arrow, wait, and when your opponent is beginning to or is about to swing, shoot them and roll away. The difference with DkS1 and DkS3 though? Your shots when properly built do a lot of damage instead of tickle. Poor Shield Crossbow got shafted in the role of ranged hit trading, but not bows. Well, it's still not as bad as DkS3 bows, am i right? (ahahahaha...why are bows even in DkS3 when they're so gimped that they're clearly not meant to be used in any way there?) This is also because arrows in DkS2 seem to have a much larger hitbox for whatever reason, combined with the inability to spam rolls mindlessly like in DkS3 makes them actually quite difficult to dodge vs someone with a good sense of shot timing. A bit of a fun fact, several years ago during vanilla launch DkS2, i actually for shits and giggles did "melee" with a greatbow with this tactic and found that i could just wait and unleash my arrow when my opponent is about to attack, clearing out entire fight clubs like this by sheer accident. Bows don't have the knockback, but they also let you move with a quick roll right after the shot thanks to much quicker recovery animation too so they can emulate the process but in a less funny manner and with overall better DPS. For SM efficiency, you want to get a high base damage bow with low scaling unless you want to farm Iron Arrows off No Man's Wharf, which i would not recommend. I personally chose the Sea Bow with Dark infusion and Dragonrider Bow with Magic infusion. The reason why you want a Dark and Magic bow is because Dark and Magic arrows are incredibly easy to farm, as the Rise Of The Dead bonfire right at the end of Shrine of Amana, right next to the Undead Crypt entrance with that one petrified dude and a few basilisks has a chest that is crucial to this. Pretty much 10 feet from the bonfire is a chest that, with every Bonfire Ascetic you burn, gives 50 magic and dark arrows (only 20 of each in the initial NG chest), and you can farm ascetics in Aldia's crib to then use your net gained ascetics to burn at Rise of the Dead for loads of quick, easy, free arrows. You can stock up on hundreds of Dark and Magic arrows in just a few minutes this way, and then just use them to pew pew people and things. Want to be a sniper? Put on Durgo's fashion statement hat and the Hawk Ring to snipe people for 300 damage shots since no PvEer has good element resist, the heal-blocked phantoms panicking. Another tip is that all bows do benefit from Ring of Blades, but not Flynn's despite what the attack stat numbers state (Flynn's Ring seems to only add damage to the jump attack "smack" move of the bow that only Ymfah has ever used), which can also be combined with Clutch Rings for safe, long distance harassment assholery that the defense loss doesn't apply to. It's also quite cheeky because a lot of hosts and phantoms do in fact have and use bows, but almost none of them have said bows upgraded so they'll be tickling you while you skewer them with shots that hurt like a mofo. And with Hawk Ring + Durgo's Hat, depending on where you are their shots can despawn from lacking range while yours hit, which is also why i like the Sea Bow with its long ass range. Depending on where you invade, you can turn some scrub squad's co-op cheese run into an impossible nightmare that they lack the skill and healing to go through. Nothing quite like sniping in No Man's Wharf, Iron Keep, Tseldora, Amana, Dragon Shrine, and the DLC areas for maximum trolling. I might have felt bad if i didn't almost always see a 3-man squad trying to cheese their way through the game and they'll probably brag about beating a Souls title this way which is about as impressive as pouring a bowl of cereal. This bow build is also rather hilariously efficient vs PvE too, as nothing will touch you and you can actually deal all of your damage to DLC enemies who don't resist your corresponding arrow element since they only have high Spell resist, not projectile resist (Otzdarva 2-shotted most DLC mobs with a damn short bow on his no-hit runs, that glorious meme god). It's also a very unique, if not game breaking way to play as a lot of mobs straight up can't deal with you, since Aldia is feeding you infinite free arrows from his front lawn's endless ascetic loop farming. Kind of sucks that you can't do any equivalent with crossbows without spending souls since no ascetic spots spawn more than pitiful 10-20 stacks of crossbow bolts in an easily accessed, safe area to warrant ascetic farming bolts with. But still, if you want a truly unique and downright mean way to invade while you wait for Demon's Souls Remastered, then try out a bow sniper and bow "point blank shooter". Also, when Demon's Souls Remastered ultimately pisses you off from the massive wave of Scraping Spear + Adjudicator Shield + Soul Sucker trolls with 300 instant heal grasses to munch on, you'll come right back to DkS2. Back to papa Aldia, because i highly doubt the remake devs are aware of just how horrendously broken and needing of rebalancing Demon Souls' PvP is. And you know what's almost as broken as Demon Souls' PvP? A weapon so confused regarding wtf it is that it can't decide. The Archdrake Mace, one of the 3 identity crisis weapons of this game and the last of the 2 relevant for this stuff since Santier's Guide Reader Spear is OP bullshit...unless it isn't broken. Huh, i guess unbroken Santier's might come after the Archdrake "Mace". [link] [comments] |

I am holding 4 crowns at my Inventory Posted: 21 Sep 2020 07:42 AM PDT ... finally beaten the final bosses of all DLC and the maingame. Posted: 21 Sep 2020 07:29 AM PDT My latest. Royal Rat Vanguard. Plan is simply Soul Appease until the boss is dead. But I cast Resplendent Life before entering the arena, forgot to change to Soul Appease and tried to cast it again in the fight. And was stupid enough not to notice what was happening. Not even looking at my character, just waiting for the next lot to drop down so I can Soul Appease again. By the time I actually looked I was being stunlocked into oblivion. Ah well. The rematch went as planned. Soul Appease even damages the boss so if you have 5 casts of Soul Appease and a suitably upgraded chime (+10 Lightning Priest's Chime in my case + Saint's Hood for the extra cast) the fight is as simple as "Press R1 5 times". And I managed to mess it up. [link] [comments] |
Eleum Loyce, Path to first Knight (PC) Posted: 21 Sep 2020 01:07 PM PDT can i please just get a hand from a summon to get through here? the little spiked rat shitheads are too annoying at this point. i've ran through like 5 times and each time one just comes out of nowhere and wipes out half my health bar then another comes and finishes me off before i can heal. When is it okay to use Souls of a Giant? Posted: 21 Sep 2020 12:53 PM PDT I have all five Souls of a Giant, I've already beaten Vendrick, and I don't plan on fighting Vendrick again in NG+. Is it okay for me to "pop" my Souls of a Giant in order to get the 10,000 souls apiece they provide? Will I be able to get them back in NG+ if I change my mind later? [link] [comments] |

(since the other summon R E F U S E S to enter the boss arena, reproducible bug with a 100% non-entry rate) or am i boned for good? is this boss skippable or do i have to start completely over too? any advice is greatly appreciated :) [link] [comments] |
Tips for beating the ivory king? Posted: 21 Sep 2020 12:17 PM PDT I've beat every other boss fairly easy aside from his pet aava or whatever.anyway Im using the tower shield and a lightning longsword +10, I have every available loyce knight but I struggle to survive with decent estus before i even get to the king himself :/ the summons here are absolutely no help with the king stage because his health gets so beefy with lucatiel and the bow boy. I can't find any players to assist me so please someone give me a tip or something! Also the loyce knights on the players side SUCK. [link] [comments] |
What is "Man's True Shape" that Vendrick mentions? Posted: 21 Sep 2020 05:38 AM PDT Surely it can't just be the hollowed form right? Since that's the side effect of the Dark Sign which is something that deprived man of its true nature. Can't be what the abyss is offering since the abyss is the cancerous dark that has gone wild and rampantly spreading itself. And when does man achieve its true shape? [link] [comments] |

I hate the Peculiar Kindular Invasion Posted: 21 Sep 2020 10:52 AM PDT I've been going through my first NG+ journey to Drangleic in Dark Souls 2 and I've gotten through with relative ease. I'm almost to the Demon of Song and guess what? I'm invaded by Peculiar Kindular. This invader has always given me a run for my money, but this time it seems like I just can't get past them. His magic and dark attacks do so much damage, and as soon as I land a hit, they seem to have enough time to shoot out a spell and kill me before my second hit can register. I'll probably find a way to kill them eventually, but it made me more frustrated so far than anything else on the NG+ journey. (I used bonfire esthetics on most of the spaces, so a majority of the areas are actually NG+2). [link] [comments] |
