/r/DarkSouls2 - Modding Monday. Posted: 06 Sep 2020 11:14 PM PDT Welcome to the weekly Dark Souls mod announcement and discussion thread! Beware! Use of mods whilst connected to the internet can cause you to get banned from online play! For more information, or to continue the discussion visit /r/ModSouls Using mods (PC only!) to enhance or add new content to the Souls games is great fun! It is important, however, to understand that mods are against From's EULA/ToS, so there is a great risk of being banned when using them due to From's anti-cheat--which is deployed in most versions of the Souls games. Versions of the games where modding is safe due to no anti-cheat: Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition Versions of the games where modding carries a very high risk of being banned: Dark Souls: Remastered Dark Souls II Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin Dark Souls III Our recommendations for safe modding *This advice is intended for first-time or relatively inexperienced modders who want to get into modding without risking a ban on their main Steam account. Basic Steps: Make a separate Steam account Use Steam's Family Sharing feature to provide your new account with access to your main Steam account's game library. Install games to be used with the new account in a separate directory. Once you've found your mods be sure to read (and follow) the mod author's instructions carefully prior to installation. Set Steam to "off line" mode. Install the mods and perform any necessary setup. Enjoy the fun and interesting experiences offered by mods! How is it that the community is so active after all this time? Posted: 07 Sep 2020 12:16 PM PDT I have recently bought this game for the third (fourth?) time, and I wanted to know what keeps everyone coming back. Are you coming back? or are you new? How many characters do you have? Are you still finding out new things? I've been playing since 2014 and still am. My story with this game is rather funny. I wanted to play Dark Souls, but heard that Dark Souls II had released a week ago (at that time), so I just bought it. It was my first Souls game. My first playthrough was a disaster, went head first into Heide's, thought to myself: "Huh, they really weren't joking about the hard part". I killed every single enemy until they stopped spawning, got to the dragonrider and quit the game for 3 months because of how buttblasted I was. Then I picked it up again, loved it and finished it. Then SoTFS came for PS3, so I bought it. Then SoTFS for PS4. And just recently fucking SoTFS for PC. I'm just so glad that I get to invade you all :) If you've been invaded by Bosphor Kalen, that's me! [link] [comments] |

CoC ring or powerstanced Caestus? Posted: 07 Sep 2020 12:44 PM PDT I have this urge to punch anyone who stands in my way. To fullfil that, should I use good n' old Caestus or the CoC ring should do? What my stats should look like? [link] [comments] |
Arsenal of the "Awful?": Iron King Hammer Posted: 06 Sep 2020 08:58 PM PDT Ah the Iron King Hammer...a weapon unlike the other Old One weapons in that its stat requirement to wield is so absurd that every single one of you never bothered with it. And those who wanted to see what it looks like found that it wasn't some giant ass ultra mace, but just a moderately big mace at the size of a weapon that should only require 30 Strength top, especially considering how fuck-all huge the other 50 strength greathammers are. So what do you get if you actually dump 15 pain-in-the-ass-to-get Petrified Dragon Bones and a ridiculous Strength stat too boot? Well, to tell you this, i first have to explain how greathammer tech works, as its the only genuinely semi-skillful tech that i'm actually good at since i can't parry, backstep, or predict for shit. Greathammer tech in DkS2 is absolutely insane; the 1-handed R1s consist of an overhead slam, followed by a spin to another overhead slam that can be manually aimed in any direction, thanks to said spin. This is completely unlike any other weapon class which just moves you forwards or slightly to the side, aside from axe R2s which i'm pretty sure none of you knew either courtesy of never trying. What this means is that greathammers in DkS2 fight unlocked, and thus bitch smack punish any and all backstab attempts by 180 spinning behind you to slam a bitch trying to fish. The 2-handed moveset is unfortunately much clunkier and slower, but does have huge sweeps to also do some roll catching albeit with much funkier timing on the wielder's part. The rolling 1-handed R1 is also hilariously fast, and is an uppercut sweep with great reach. And keep in mind, this is most greathammers. And most greathammers aren't split damage and also usually have higher Strength scaling with much better reach. So what does this mean for the Iron King Hammer? Absolutely nothing because it styles all over other greathammers by virtue of being the only greathammer in the game with useful 1-handed R2s, and having a 2-handed R2 combo that while is stupidly difficult to land against players, kicks ass when it lands and also eviscerates PvE. This mofo is the proto-type Boomhammer from Bloodborne, and DAMN does it style all over people. This is because, while the R2s are technically the same moves motion-wise as other greathammers, they come with a crazy hard hitting fire explosion effect with really nice splash, usually hitting people if you whiff the free-aim so you still punish even if you otherwise wouldn't have, and both the slam and explosion splash hitting is some huge, hilarious damage. Oh, and it's also similarly aimed unlocked 360 degrees around you, so unlocked play is much more lenient. Another thing to realize is that, while the Iron King Hammer does have lower reach than most greathammers, the actual motion of greathammers give it deceptive reach. Greathammer 1-handed R1s have you take a step forwards and reach out during the swing, out-reaching quite decently and surprisingly, oftentimes even surprising opponents. As a result, while its use of greathammer tech doesn't clip people at distances often, it still reaches longer than one would assume at first glance. Though what's probably the biggest benefit of the Iron King Hammer is its split damage. Fire infusing it results in negligible base damage loss (literally 10 damage), but a hefty scaling loss meaning that your big boi 50 Strength is only going to give about 100 dmg of physical scaling. However, in exchange the Fire scaling and base damage is pretty absurd, gaining 50 base fire damage and rather shocking scaling numbers. Because you see, even at a pitiful 5 int/faith, the Fire infused Iron King Hammer still gets 50 Fire damage from scaling (most magic and lightning infused weapons get +50 scaling damage at 50 Int/Faith, and most other fire and dark infused weapons get those numbers at 30 int/faith), which added to its infused fire stats give it a MINIMUM of 300 Fire damage. It's basically a Fire variant of the Crypt Blacksword, but with much better backstab punish tech at the cost of an even worse and equally useless Strength requirement. If you're crazy enough to get a high enough SL and SM to reach havelmonster territory (which i certainly am not), this thing can easily reach absurd Fire damage numbers which is much deadlier than you think. To elaborate on why i'm gushing over elemental damage on an oonga boonga Strength bludgeon, you have to know how elemental defense, or lack thereoff, works in DkS2. Because unlike DkS1 and DkS3, you actually have to put in effort to negate any elemental damage because most armors don't give shit for element defense while giving massive physical defense, meaning that elemental damage weapons will always hit harder without Rob+Flynn shenanigans unless your opponent bothers to wear good element resist gear (which they won't), use GMB (which they won't), wear the +3 Quartz Rings and/or Dispelling Ring +1 (which they definitely wont). As a result, all those havelfags chasing after high poise cheesing can shrug off physical attacks but melt against elemental damage, and hoo boy does the Iron King Hammer have some elemental damage. Because it can also be buffed with Flame Weapon, which when stacked with Fire infusion gives you a good 400-ish Fire damage at a mere 5 int/faith, and this also powers up the kaboom slams. I traded blows with buff stacking arena tryhards and smashed their cheese-reliant asses, even pissing off several tryhards into switching to even more cancerous weapons just to deal with me which mostly tended to fail since...well...they suck for relying on those so much and because the Iron King Hammer just humiliated their asses (also because i swap to a +3 Quartz Ring with Dispelling Ring every time i see a weapon buff lol). Only the truly, genuinely good players were able to beat me effortlessly, and none of them used the cheese gear too so maximum respect to them who destroyed my ass. If anything, the Iron King Hammer might be the genuinely best greathammer because of how much more lenient its quotas for backstab fish punishing is thanks to the explosive R2 splash attack chaining so smoothly from its R1. It's 1-handed R2s actually mean something, and a good something. But, of course, this weapon has its downsides. Because certain other greathammers by being so much bigger are actually much easier to hit with (Demon's Greathammer in particular with its giant ass head), and also have much longer reaching 2-handed R2 for the signature pancake maker slam...which the Iron King Hammer requires you to be right in something's face to do. As such, the Iron King Hammer requires a lot of poise, on top of that ludicrous 50 Strength requirement so you're likely not doing to invest in int/faith for the fire scaling benefits. However, the Iron King Hammer has a shockingly fast followup R2 after its pancake slam (which has an explosion and thus hits much harder i exchange for being riskier to pull off), and a lot of people don't know this so they think they can punish after a whiff, only to then get quickly pancaked with the fast followup pancake slam. This is kind of a 1-time-only but powerful surprise move vs players as they'll never fall for it again, but it's also ridiculously good for PvE as a 2-hit quick, damage nuke combo. And you know why this thing is so damn good? Because it used to be a weak piece of shit, but it actually got buffed in a similar manner to the Roaring Halberd, which also used to be a weak piece of shit at launch before the glory of patching. It's a complete reverse Puzzling Stone Sword in this regard, which is kind of hilarious because despite the Iron King Hammer getting similarly roided out like the Roaring Halberd, it's wielding requirement is still so absurd that seeing that 50 strength requirement is a huge turn-off. And that 50 strength requirement is unfortunately needed because this weapon does not function well at all 2-handed, losing out on its spin-to-smash unlocked tech potential while also having terribly slow 2-handed R1 windups that are so bad that you can't land 2 hits in a row, with its great 2-handed R2 combo having no reach and costing durability to use (still devastatingly strong though) The lack of reach also means that if you match against another greathammer, they'll outreach and probably screw you over if they're well versed in unlocked tech (which they probably are if they're ballsy enough to use a greathammer in a game where buffed stacked, fast counter-hit weapons cheese everything). If anything, the huge state requirements of strength and probably vitality to wear high poise gear with Ring of Giants, the heaviest ring, means that you really can't capitalize on maximizing the Fire damage scaling without an uncomfortably high SM, but then again the base Fire damage and scaling are strong enough to mostly compensate and still be perfectly good even when not at its full possible potential. And speaking of old, shitty launch weapons, the next weapon coming up is something so bad that its own item description shits on it. The Great Machete...oh dear i remember an old Otzdarva video where he did only 70 damage with this thing at +10 vs a havelmonster and i am not looking forwards to sharing in his pain. Posted: 07 Sep 2020 09:18 AM PDT So I was farming the Giant Lord, like one does, and after 2ish hours something happened thats never happened before that scared me to death. I ran to the boss, and normally all enemies die by the fire or the head, but somehow one of the large giants got past it all and surprised me as I got on to the ledge, so I spammed away, somehow managing not to die, and finishing that run as well. I just wanna know if anyone else has had something similar happen to them and if so how was it? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Sep 2020 02:37 PM PDT I never thought I'd get this far, but I did it. I managed to get to velstadt and battled against him, an really good fight, epic, beautiful, sad, his music is awesome, he might be my new favorite boss. He was really difficult because of his damage and the speed he attacked, he just wouldn't stop chasing me around, I beat with with one hit away from death and it was intense. My god I love the feeling of knowing you've progressed. Thank you from software, for making such an amazing boss. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Sep 2020 04:08 PM PDT I just wanted to say that this is the most interesting of the Soulsborne subreddits. While memes and such aren't allowed still, there's actually posts that are interesting. It isn't a steady stream of plat, I beat X, or asking for help. There's discussion on meta weapons, what's good and bad about this game, and deep dives into joke weapons. To you who keep this subreddit interesting, I salute you [link] [comments] |
So, the pvp for sm 1,5 - 2M is all about mostly not upgraded gear ? Posted: 07 Sep 2020 03:02 PM PDT I guess, people here just stick to few builds or are creating another character in case they wanted to do something else ? Because I'm not sure if anyone uses not upgraded stuff. Like, sure it still deals ok damage but, everyone wants to pull the best out of gear they're using, staying below 2M souls, doesn't kinda allow it for every gear there is. [link] [comments] |

Tips on a champion covenant play through? Posted: 07 Sep 2020 12:28 PM PDT Im getting my ass kicked, stuck on the first giant of all places. Need some help, not sure what build to go with either, going with quality at the moment? Chose warrior class. Any advice? [link] [comments] |

My cracked red eye orb isn't working Posted: 07 Sep 2020 02:54 PM PDT So when I used the cracked red eye orb it works (keep in mind I'm human) and so if I lose or win the invasion doesn't matter in the end because when I try to invade again I can't does anyone else have this problem [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Sep 2020 05:45 PM PDT Hello ! So it's my first time as a Cleric in DS2 and I need to know what is the best Chime I need to get ? Is it possible to play in full caster ? How to deal real damage in early game... I'm in the Champion Covenant and I didn't kill any primal bosses yet. What should I do ? Thank you in advance ^^' [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Sep 2020 05:38 PM PDT What would be the perfect poise for pve or pvp? It seems like my character is made out of paper, and I always get blown away by literally anything, and since I'm a light build user, I usually don't bother with poise, therefore don't have any idea of how it actually changes. Any tips? [link] [comments] |
Even at the end of the game, I'm still discovering new mechanics Posted: 06 Sep 2020 11:11 PM PDT I've only just discovered, completely by accident, that I can cycle through the arrow slots with R1 and R2... Only after defeating the Giant Lord. I encountered an Elite Giant in a different memory and started panic shooting poison arrows only to find myself shooting lightning ones instead. I scratched my head after being turned into red mist then it hit me. Before now Ive been manually moving different types of arrows into the R1 slot as they are needed. Sorry for the bad grammar, sleep deprivation has set in. TL;DR: I'm an idiot but I love this game! [link] [comments] |
Ds2sotfs Question about Bonfire Ascetic Effect and the Rotten Posted: 07 Sep 2020 05:07 PM PDT So I am trying to do Lucatiel's quest but I forgot at first that you have to summon her for the Rotten fight or at least so I thought. I ran through the Gulch and just talked to her in that area below the poison statue but then just ran to the boss fight completely forgetting the other bonfire or the need to summon her for the boss. I beat the Rotten but then read about how you had to summon her and you could use bonfire ascetics. I used it and now I cannot kill the Rotten because he has too much health is one shotting me. Turns out too that I can just fight the smelter demon with her and that should progress her quest since I fought Flexile and Lost Sinner with her and kept her alive there. My question is this: can I now go on and finish her questline and the MQ even if I can't kill the Rotten again? Will I still get the King's ring and will she still move onto the fire keep even though I haven't killed the Rotten a second time? [link] [comments] |
Fastest way for sunlight medals? Posted: 07 Sep 2020 08:20 AM PDT I still need 20 sunlight medals for my platinum trophy and I was wondering if it's faster to try to farm them from the falconers or just placing my sign in the highlighted areas? Or perhaps finding a partner who I could farm these with. [link] [comments] |
Need Help with the Rotten XB1 DS2 SOTFS SM 373852 Posted: 07 Sep 2020 04:17 PM PDT I burned a bonfire ascetic at the rotten to try to complete Lucatiel's quest but bit off more than I can chew apparently. He is pretty much one-shotting me now and I can't keep Lucatiel alive long enough to even get him to 50% health. Can someone help? Am at the hidden bonfire now. [link] [comments] |
Oh my jesus how do you even shrine of Amana Posted: 07 Sep 2020 03:54 PM PDT I found ways to get around most of the Gankier areas in this game (Iron keep, Freja's everything) bit this is insane. Not only are those homing missiles crazy, but I'm getting jumpscared by those lizard things every five seconds. I see a fog wall in the distance but theres 2 mahes and 2 priests which is a perfect storm and everytime I get that far they all gang up on me and obliterate me. Anyone got any tips?
