    Finally beat Dark Souls...

    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 08:53 PM PDT

...and I can't wait to play it again. It was an absolute roller coaster of a game that took me through so many emotions (anger and pain being the main two). I almost gave up during O&S, but the satisfaction and euphoria from finally beating them was unbelievable. The music, atmosphere, combat, boss designs, and lore were all so great. I loved this game so much. Praise the sun!

Ok, but where IS Lordran? WHAT is Lordran?

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 03:45 AM PDT

After playing the original and remaster for over 200 hours, I've finally decided to take my time and really look around and enjoy the environment, and I've noticed some pretty strange things.

Firstly, we're really really high up in the sky. You can look out into the horizon and see clouds below you. And everything seems to lead to sheer cliffs, and you sometimes even find yourself clambering across the sides of them (like on your way to Darkroot Basin). And things are often built to the very edges of these cliffs, like the walls outside Anor Londo.

But the placement of some things, especially these walls, seems really weird to me. Like, what's the point of these? They're seemingly just built there because there was space for them. In fact, why do you even need huge, towering walls at the edge of a pleteau? The cliff face is a barrier enough from the outside, so it's as if the walls are built to hold things in, if for anything at all.

At first, you could say that it's just the way the world is; layers and layers of huge plateaus stacked up above the clouds. But I noticed that if you look down through the clouds... you see ground. Wayy down there.

Which makes me think that maybe Lordran was built on the ground, but somehow rose up at some point? It is basically the realm of the gods, after all.

There seems to be a general consensus that Lordran is built on an arch tree, but that doesn't explain all the strangely placed walls and stuff. Maybe they're just there to look cool? Or that's just how civilization is built, and people live on/in them? But if Lordran is on an arch tree, what does that make the trees in Ash Lake? What does that make the Great Hollow?

    Dark Souls and Depression

    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 08:37 AM PDT

I'm sure this has been said before, but I've recently been playing through DSR for the first time, having only played DS3 and Bloodborne before, and its been very helpful with the pretty shit time i've been having at the moment.

The way the game is designed is that you are a cursed undead, your curse is the darksign, that endlessly revives you upon death, undead in Lordran are cursed to come back again and again until the insanity finally sets in, that they are in a dying world devoid of any hope. You can die, and probably will, many times in Dark Souls, but the only way you can truly die is if you give up, and 'go hollow'. As long as you continue, no matter how insane the odds, there is a chance you will find a way. The environments of the game are beautiful and breathtaking in their antiquated beauty, that make you appreciate every pixel as you rest at every bonfire to recover your lost strength and brave the next challenge ahead.

This is something that is important to me, but the point is stay strong my fellow kings, don't you dare go hollow <3

How do I finish this game?

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 04:47 AM PDT

So apparently I'm in the second half of the game. After killing Ornstein and Smough (it might be my favorite fight in the series for me so far, harder than Kos ngl), I got the lordvessel as well and the yellow fog opened, and now I'm being told to kill all the people in the opening cinematic. The only yellow fog that I knew of was the one in Anor Londo, so I went to Duke's Archives and promptly spent the next 5-6 hours running around avoiding the enemies while trying to find the boss. This was awful, the least enjoyable time I've spent in this game so far, accompanied by what I hope is the only mandatory death in the series. Eventually, I found the crystal caves and beat Seath the Scaleless.

I'm gonna be honest, I have no idea how to continue. I know one of the bosses is in New Londo Ruins, but I can't attack any of the enemies. I have a consumable that allows me to, but what happens if I run out, am I just screwed? I don't think intentionally getting cursed and running through the area with half health is a viable option.

I haven't done the Catacombs yet, should I make a divine weapon just to clear that area? My two weapons are +7 Halberd and +7 Claymore, so I'd need a new one to be divine. Are the catacombs even necessary? I just thought that Gravelord Nito would be there given the name, but really I have no idea.

I don't have a clue as to where Izalith is.

I really apologize for all these questions, but I don't want to look up a guide for fear of accidently getting spoiled. Pretty much...

    1. How am I supposed to prepare for New Londo Ruins?
    2. Where the hell is Izalith?
    3. Do I have to do the catacombs? If so tips please the spooky scaries keep respawning.
    4. Is my equipment still usable for where I am in the game? I have two +7 weapons (Halberd, Claymore). I never upgraded my shields because I only use the for parrying anyway, and I never upgraded armor because I switch too often (usually medium roll for the levels, fast roll for bosses).
    5. Does the game get better? Duke's archives and the crystal cave were extremely unpleasant for me, and I don't think I'm willing to do more areas as bad or worse than that.
    6. Did I miss any important optional areas? For reference the bosses I've beaten are the Asylum demon, Taurus demon, Moonlight butterfly, Bell gargoyles, Capra demon, Gaping Dragon, Quelaag, Iron Golem, Ornstein and Smough, and most recently Seath the Scaleless.

I really appreciate the help I've gotten from experienced players on this post and on previous ones. I really like this game, but it's much less straightforward than bloodborne and I have no idea what to do.

    Couple questions about Dark Souls

    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 01:50 PM PDT

First of all I love this game very much. Ds2 was my first. Then 3. And now Remastered. It's a close race between Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls Remastered. But there are a few mechanics and such that I don't quite understand.

First off what is the deal with enchanting weapons in this game? There are like 10 different types of titanite and 20 different enchantments and embers.

Secondly, do certain weapons parry better? I use a shield and a parrying dagger and they seem to do about the same but does one actually have a bigger window for parrying?

And third, can you do everyone's quest lines in one playthrough? I honestly hate his function of the game where specific NPC's just do their own thing and die without you knowing what's going on until you search it.

    Any answers are appreciated.

To anyone who's played souls-like games, what aspect of those games do you think they lack that made the dark souls good?

I finally understand the love for ds1

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 04:11 AM PDT

Me and my best friend have played every souls game in ful coop. We started them about 1-2 years ago with ds3, then 2, and just a couple of days ago with ds1. I know that you're all gonna judge us for playing an easier version, but man, it's so much fun. I didn't really enjoy my time with 3 that much, specifecally because i sucked ass, but in time i got better, and now I finally get it. The feeling of going through an area, discovering the enemy locations, secrets and bosses is incredible, and in ds1 it's just amazing. I just got to Anor Londo, and wow, it's awesome, specially after seeing a different take on it from ds3. Gone are the days if walking reeeealy slowly with my shield up, and welcome be the times of parries.

Oh, and Sen's Fortress can go fuck itself.

Did I already screw up my first run?

    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 04:03 PM PDT

So, a friend convinced me to play Dark Souls Remastered. It's my first run ever (i'm playing on a switch) and I gotta say, I'm hooked. I decided to play a pyromancer because, well, who doesn't want to throw huge fireballs at stuff? So I'm around level 60, maybe 40 hours in and found out that I can actually upgrade my pyromancy. After upgrading it to level 15 and ascending it once, I accidentally hit Quelana with some splash damage, she started chasing me and died to poison on the swamp.

After googling around trying to find out if there's any way to ascend my flame further I found out that what seems to be the best pyromancy spell (Great Chaos Fireball) is given by a NPC that I killed (there was a message in front of her saying "try attacking", so I did).

Is there any way left for me to ascend further and get the Great Chaos Fireball or is my pyromancer already doomed to never achieve its full potential? What should I do here?

    O&S NG+7

    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 09:41 PM PDT

I just beat O&S on NG+7. The neat thing about this post is that I had 33 humanity and over 1 Million souls sitting in there waiting to be retrieved. That's the closest I'll get to the intensity of beating them on my very first run.

Currently doing a LobosJr inspired run to clear Lordran and every boss. If I die and fail to retrieve my souls and humanity, I delete my NG+7 save.

The stakes have never been higher.

Streaming on Twitch at the same name that you see on Reddit. Sorry for the promotion. I figured someone should see me delete almost 130 hours of work.

    Couple interesting things

    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 09:21 PM PDT

So I've only been playing Dark Souls Remastered for about a month or so. I've beaten it twice. Amazing game. There are a couple things I figured out that I find pretty interesting. Mostly visual stuff the creators put in that is just neat.

Like if you are wearing the artorias' helmet you can see your face through the blue folds. And it changes depending on if you are hollow or not, but is still a gray-blue face in the helmet. Thought that was cool.

In Anor Londo after you kill O&S there are two elevators you can take. One if small and fast and the other is very large and slow. I realized one was actually for Orny and one was for Smough. Pretty cool.

You can see Manus's eyes from the elevated cliff before you go to his fog door. That was v cinematic.

Just some quick things I noticed that gave me more appreciation for the game.

    Convince me!

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 01:39 AM PDT

So game is on sale for 14 dollars, you're about to see why I came here, so I SUCK at these kinda games yeah typical right another person complaining to suck and that's why they don't play but hear me out... I want to get good at this type of play style I always get mad at myself not the game for sucking because as someone who grew up on gaming and is very good at every game they play I get upset when I find a challenge that I can't overcome I want to tho and I love the art style of the game but I have no clue if the story is worth the effort I already think the game looks beautiful and interesting but is there a real lore? Like one that can get me as hooked as a game like the Witcher? If so is it worth putting in the time and effort when you are absolutely trash to this type of genre... like I said I want to get good but I want to know if I should really go for it this time and stay dedicated.... and off that note if anyone could help me who's experienced drop your gamer tag Xbox I want to give this a shot but I decided maybe come here and see what fans of the game would say before I buy

How does the Leo ring work?

    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 09:46 PM PDT

Just beat Smough and Ornstein, got the leo ring and dragonslayer spear and went to test them on the silver knights, My understanding of counter damage is that you have to hit the enemy while they're attacking or at the same time they hit you. So I walked up to the knight with the sword, hit him while he was walking to me for 108, then I hit him while he wound up a swing, still 108, why did my leo ring not proc on that second hit?

Arlight so Ive been stuck on them for a couple of hours now. before I get to the questions, I know I know I got to git gud. However I do have some questions.

    - I've been playing on keyboard and mouse and to be honest whilst it did feel obsolete at times it never really bothered me until now. is the game much smoother using controller?

    - When fighting them is it better to lock on or not?
