I love powerstancing. What weapons have unique movements when powerstanced with other weapons?

I was hoping for Fume UGS and Fume sword to have a unique moveset when holding both with the UGS in the left hand, but sadly, no.

The Definitive Guide to Farming Twinkling Titanite

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 06:37 AM PDT

or, How I Learned to Stop Waiting and Love the Poison Statue Clusters

    Greetings, skeletons!

Your friendly neighborhood number collector here. After weeks of testing, I've finally finished a comprehensive breakdown of every worthwhile method for farming Twinkling Titanite. We'll look at each method: when they become available, best ways to run them, and most importantly, how they stack up.

Before we jump in, a quick thank-you to the people in our sub that helped make this happen: shout out to the ever-helpful u/TheHittite and many others for answers and advice as I went, to everybody who gave such lovely encouragement in my previous posts, and to u/TheSphinxGuyOfAladin for their help testing!

    Let's do this thing!

Spreadsheet here containing step-by-step guides, comparisons, analysis, and all that sweet, sweet data.

I've split the methods up into two groups:

    Farming Methods

These methods are defined by being entirely self-sustaining, and consist largely of enemies that can be farmed while in Covenant of Champions. In order of availability:

    1. Poison Statue Clusters
    2. Frozen Golems
    3. Archdrake Pilgrims/Priestesses
    4. Dragon Aerie Runs

    Ascetic Methods

These methods consume 1 Bonfire Ascetic per run, in return for very high efficiency. Also included here is the Aldia's Keep run, which allows you to farm Ascetics sustainably. In order of availability:

    1. Brume Tower (Foyer bonfire)
    2. Dragon Sanctum (Hidden Sanctum bonfire)
    3. Aldia's Keep (Foregarden bonfire)
    4. Dragon Shrine

    Overview

Before we get our hands dirty in the hard numbers, I'll point out a few of the methods which stand out.

    Earliest Method Possible:

Far and away, this is the Poison Statue Clusters. These little guys can be farmed after beating only a single boss - the Rotten - and the DLC key can be grabbed even earlier, allowing you to stock up on Twinkling Titanite (and Human Effigies) before ever setting foot in the Forest of Fallen Giants.

    Best No-Ascetics Method:

Likely a suprise to noone, this is the Archdrake Pilgrims and Priestesses, probably the single best known method of them all. If you are dead-set on never using an Ascetic, then you will see the best results with this method.

    Best Self-Sustained Method:

A bit less commonplace, the Dragon Aerie Run is far and away the best method to not require any resources to run, although you will need to raise the bonfire Intensity every run.

    Most Ascetic-Efficient Method:

For the low price of 1 Ascetic per run, using the Dragon Sanctum Ascetic method you can loot 3 Twinkling Titanite and 3 Petrified Dragon Bones. The closest competitor is the Dragon Shrine run, which offers 1 Slab along with 3 Twinkling.

    Highest Twinkling-per-Minute:

This is actually a toss-up; if you have Ascetics to burn, then the Brume Tower Ascetic run has the highest output by nearly 20%. If you don't, then this spot lands solidly in the lap of the Dragon Aerie Run.

    Worst Method

Somehow, even with low expectations, I'm still disappointed by the Frozen Golems. The run is inconsistent, the enemies do too much damage, the drop rates are bad, and I lost 2.5m souls while farming them by going afk while wearing the Symbol of Avarice.

That's nothing to do with the Golems really. I just needed to get that out there.

    Breakdowns

With the best-of's out of the way, let's dive into the numbers!

    Farming Methods

    Poison Statue Clusters

    • Total Killed: 900
    • Average Run Time: 1:08.33
    • Twinkling Titanite Drop Rate: 8%
    • Effigy Drop Rate: 7.78%
    • Twinkling-per-Minute: 0.2107

While it pales in comparison to methods that become available later in the game, this method has the distinction of being your single option for self-sustainable farming of Twinkling Titanite in the early-game. It is also one of two methods listed here which give Human Effigies, for what thats worth.

    Frozen Golems

    • Total Killed: 250
    • Average Run Time: 3:02.09
    • Twinkling Titanite Drop Rate: 10.8%
    • Effigy Drop Rate: 11.6%
    • Twinkling-per-Minute: 0.1779

This is easily the worst of the methods - not only does it have the lowest TpM of any method I tested, it also doesn't unlock until Drangleic Castle, by which point it is nearly useless. Don't bother with this one.

    2.5 million souls!

    Archdrake Pilgrims/Priestesses

    • Average Run Time: 0:44.62
    • Twinkling-per-Minute: 0.8607

    Pilgrims

    • Total Killed: 900
    • Twinkling Titanite Drop Rate: 21.33%

    Priestesses

    • Total Killed: 900
    • Twinkling Titanite Drop Rate: 7.89%

Standing funny-helmet-and-shoulders above the other enemy-based methods is this old mainstay. If you plan to abstain from using Ascetics entirely, this will be your sole method of sustainable farming - hope you brought your galoshes!

    Dragon Aerie Runs

    • Average Run Time: 3:07
    • Twinkling-per-Run: 7
    • PDB-per-Run: 1
    • Twinkling-per-Minute: 2.2500

Far and away the best self-sustaining method, this is also the only Ascetic run where you don't have to even see the powered-up enemies after you're done - you can skip right over the Aerie on future NG cycles, so pumping the Intensity up has no practical downside. This run in particular really prioritizes Twinkling Titanite: you kill only the Crystal Lizards which drop Twinkling, the Drake which drops it, and grab the lootable 1x.

    Ascetic Methods

A quick note on these runs: each will have "Adjusted" info listed. This factors in the time it takes to do one Aldia's Keep run, effectively closing the resource loop. This "Adjusted" number is the one to look for if you intend to sustain these methods, while the standard listings apply if you are simply spending Ascetics.

    Brume Tower (Foyer bonfire)

    • Twinkling-per-Run: 3
    • Average Run Time: 1:03.34
    • Twinkling-per-Minute: 2.8420
    • Adjusted Run Time: 2:32.51
    • Adjusted Twinkling-per-Minute: 1.1802

This method is the absolute ceiling for Twinkling Titanite farming. If you find yourself with Ascetics to spend, then this is the fastest way to exchange them for Twinkling Titanite, though not the most overall cost-effective. Even factoring in farming Ascetics from Aldia's Keep, this method still tops any other besides the Dragon Aerie Run.

    Dragon Sanctum (Hidden Sanctum bonfire)

    • Twinkling-per-Run: 3
    • PDB-per-Run: 3
    • Average Run Time: 1:27.57
    • Twinkling-per-Minute: 2.0555
    • Adjusted Run Time: 2:56.76
    • Adjusted Twinkling-per-Minute: 1.0184

This is the most bang for your buck, in terms of Ascetics. It's worth noting that the Twinkling-per-Minute numbers here are the same for Petrified Dragon Bones, making this a strong method if you are in need of both. Shout-out to u/TheSphinxGuyOfAladin for helping test this one!

    Dragon's Shrine

    • Twinkling-per-Run: 3
    • Average Run Time: 1:27.11
    • Twinkling-per-Minute: 2.0663
    • Adjusted Run Time: 2:56.29
    • Adjusted Twinkling-per-Minute: 1.0210

This is the most difficult of the Ascetic runs; it's the only one where you are forced to fight, and not just any enemy. You have to fight the Greathammer Drakekeeper each and every run. It's also worth noting that by adding ~25 sec to the run you can grab the respawning Slab as well, although they are pretty common by the late-game. This method doesn't have much anything to set it apart from the other Ascetic runs, and is further damned by being a non-optional area.

    Aldia's Keep

    • Ascetic-per-Run: 1
    • Average Run Time: 1:29.18
    • Ascetics-per-Minute: 0.6728

You may also choose to grab the two PDB x1 lootables, giving these results:

    • Average Run Time: 1:41.63
    • Ascetics-per-Minute: 0.5904
    • PDB-per-Minute: 1.1808

This run is the crux upon which all the other Ascetic methods function. While you can farm Ascetics in the Chasms of the Abyss, it rapidly becomes inefficient - CoC doesn't work there, and you will have to kill an increasingly powerful Darklurker each time you refresh the enemies.

While this is a non-optional area, there's nothing thats too hard to handle on future passes.

    BONUS: Giant Lord

This method only works in base DS2, not SotFS edition (where the Twinkling x2 no longer respawns), and as such I didn't intend to mention it. I'm doing so now because u/TheSphinxGuyOfAladin stepped in and ran the tests, so thanks to them once again!

    • Average Run Time: 2:17.40
    • Twinkling-per-Minute: 0.7951

If you have the ability to do this run, then it is a solid option, especially given the 500k+ souls you will get in the bargain for completing each run.

    Conclusion

Here's a quick recap in the form of rankings, by Twinkling-per-Minute:

    NO ALDIA RUNS

    1. Brume Tower: 2.8420
    2. Dragon Aerie: 2.2500
    3. Dragon Shrine: 2.0663
    4. Dragon Sanctum: 2.0555
    5. Archdrake Pilgrims/Priestesses: 0.8607
    6. Poison Statue Cluster: 0.2107
    7. Frozen Golem: 0.1779

    WITH ALDIA RUNS

    1. Dragon Aerie: 2.2500
    2. Brume Tower: 1.1802
    3. Dragon Shrine: 1.0210
    4. Dragon Sanctum: 1.0184
    5. Archdrake Pilgrims/Priestesses: 0.8607
    6. Poison Statue Cluster: 0.2107
    7. Frozen Golem: 0.1779

    And that's all, folks!

800+ runs later, and I'm ready to put a bow on this one. Here's hoping it's of use or interest to somebody out there!

If you're interested in my testing methodology, step-by-step guides for each method, my run notes, or a shit-load of data (including full drop table info for some additional enemies, tracking of drop rate changes over time, and more), check out the spreadsheet!

I'm gonna take a break for a couple days, then it's head-first into Petrified Dragon Bones. In the meantime, I'm sure I'll be around with niche questions about enemies no one else wants to fight and runs no else one wants to do :D

    Thanks for reading!

Updated checklists & farewell to Drangleic!

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 10:10 AM PDT

At long last, I have truly finished (to the extent one ever can) this wonderful game. I have not only unlocked every achievement but also managed to acquire every single item in the game. Admittedly, a few of the more painstaking items came by way of friendly drops from my fellow undead. But I certainly put in all the hours needed to get everything out of this game as I possibly could.

Just as I did after finishing DSR, my parting gift to myself will be to grab a drink and finally look through my English edition of "Dark Souls II: Design Works". I will then take a bit of a break from this franchise and probably start DS3 in a couple of months.

As my parting gift to this community, and to Soulsborne fandom in general, I am providing the link below to a Google Drive folder containing both of my "completionist" checklists for DS2 (SotFS). One checklist is essentially the item/inventory checklist that I shared previously on this sub, but which has now been updated with some tweaks and additions. The other checklist is a modified spreadsheet version of an online walkthrough checklist that many of you are perhaps already familiar with. For both checklists, I recommend consulting the "Document Notes" tab at the end for what I hope will be some helpful advice on how to use these tools most effectively. That said, please feel free to download, share, and/or re-purpose these tools however you see fit for your own gameplay experience!

Cheers and, as always, don't go hollow. May the dark shine your way.

    Sl1

I just beat the rotten at SL1 without getting hit. I'm probably not as excited as I should be, but I still feel that's an accomplishment.

Bone fist is not only about the power stanced or 2 handed moves and hadoukens, try off handing it.

    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 11:50 PM PDT

No one sees that drop kick coming from a backstep.

And sprint into drop kick is huge gap closer and cliff thrower. It can interrupt heals and casts too.

It can still parry like a caestus.

Now to compare to a caestus, keeping a caestus off hand with large slow weapon is good, not only to parry, but when someone is reactively avoiding the big weapon's swings, the fast good damage punches can catch them good and throw them off, while the sight of the caestus deters swinging carelessly even if you rarely parry.

The bone fist, while it has lower damage than a caestus, has higher poise break and counter damage, also it's second light attack is a combination of a kick and punch that count as 2 hits, have a knock back to give space and are fun to do.

My personal addition: lost sinners shirt with vangarl pants, forlorn hood and havel's gauntlets look dope together, fit this idea thematically (bonefist and drakekeeper's great hammer/gargoyle bident, a backup battle axe or craftsman's hammer) are well balanced, and havel's gauntlets conceal the bonefist, it would even appear you're smacking people with those stone-chain sleeves.

    Have fun.

    Shrine of Amana Walkthrough

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 08:40 AM PDT

What's there to say about the Shrine of Amana that hasn't already been covered a thousand times by r/FuckShrineOfAmana? Well how about that it's incredibly easy if you go in prepared and are patient in your approach. Enemy placement and layout in this guide is based on the Scholar of the First Sin edition, but it shouldn't be a whole lot different on vanilla. As before, it comes with a low quality and poorly edited video walkthrough.

    Shrine of Amana Easy Mode

    What to Bring

    1. A Bow. - And it doesn't have to be a good one either. The best option is a Hunter's Blackbow due to very long range and fast draw speed, but not every build will have 25 Dex. If you have at least 16 Dex, you can use the Sea Bow, assuming you can get one to drop. At 12 Dex you can use a Short Bow which isn't great, but is a perfectly adequate delivery system for poison arrows. At 10 Str/6 Dex you've got a Heavy Crossbow, which works decently assuming you upgrade it but will force you to duck behind cover more than a normal bow. If you don't have even that much, it's time to seriously reassess your build priorities.
    2. Poison and/or Lightning Arrows (or Bolts). - Which one depends on whether you want to upgrade your bow. Poison doesn't matter if the bow is upgraded, so if you'd rather save your titanite buy those. You'll want about 200-300.
    3. A Long Weapon (Optional: Lightning Infused). - Which specific one is up to personal taste, but the enemies in the Shrine are difficult to fight with short weapons. Spears and Lances are the best for this, but Halberds, Ultra Greatswords and Great Hammers can work very well, assuming you practice with them. A good option is the Heide Lance. It has low requirements (9 Str/12 Dex to 2H), built in Lightning damage and is reasonably viable at +0 if you don't want to spend titanite on a weapon you might not use again.
    4. (Optional) Hawk Ring and/or Durgo's Hat - Not strictly necessary, but combined with a Sea Bow or Hunter's Blackbow they increase your effective range out to the draw limit. If you see it, you can kill it. They also help shorter range bows in some of the areas where there are longer sight lines.
    5. (Optional) Magic Quartz Ring and/or Magic Resistant Shield - Ideally, you'll be able to use cover to avoid the mages, but it never hurts to plan for the worst.
    6. (Optional) Cast Light Spell - Many underwater ledges and drops are hard to see without a light source, and the spell doesn't go out when you roll through water like a torch does.

    Forcing the Forlorn

You can skip this section if you want, but the Forlorn can invade at pretty much any point in the level and there's few more frustration ways to lose a half hour's progress than getting 3/4 of the way to the next bonfire when a scythe-y boi invades you while you're waist-deep in water. Luckily, there's an invasion point that's on dry land and it's right downstairs from the first bonfire. I'm reasonably certain that once you kill him in an area, he can't invade again.

First thing to do is put a Homeward Bone in your hotbar as an early warning. When it greys out, you're about to be invaded. Start at the Tower of Prayer bonfire and go down the stairs and through the doorway. Directly in front of you on the ridge is an Archdrake that won't notice you until you're right on top of him. This is a good place to practice fighting these guys for later, so go ahead and use him as a punching bag. At the end of the ridge is a pile of crates, a basilisk and a chest. At any point along this path, the Forlorn can invade. If he doesn't invade the first time, go back to the bonfire and try again. This is pretty boring, and I won't blame you if you quit after a few runs. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I prefer boredom to frustration.

Now since Amana is after Drangleic Castle, that means that you'll be invaded by a Scythe Forlorn. I wish I could tell you a surefire strategy to beat it, but I don't have one. The most reliable way I've found to date is Dark Orb spam with the Witchtree Branch and Stone Ring, and even that isn't 100% guaranteed. The damn AI cheats, I swear.

Tower of Prayer to Crumbled Ruins

Starting at the Tower of Prayer bonfire again, go down the stairs to the bottom. There'll be a very obvious lizardman in the water. They're easy to spot from a distance as long as there's singing because of the cloud of brightbugs over them. When they're like this they also won't aggro until you get right up next to them. Without music they're harder to spot and more aggressive, but you'll see them coming because they'll make an obvious wake as they crawl. They're really easy to take care of alone and assuming you can get the first hit (hence using spears or halberds or the like) but if they can get a hit in you could be in trouble.

Once you've beaten the lizard, take a peek out of the tower. There'll be a few more brightbug pacified lizards and a single patrolling Archdrake. I generally recommend pulling Archdrakes to your position with arrows rather than going to meet them. You never know when you'll stumble over some lizards on your way. Just like with the lizards it's important to get the first hit. They don't have much poise, but they hit hard and can stagger you easily so whoever gets the first hit in will usually get a couple more for free. Once he's dead you can clean up any of the lizards along the path that you want and look for some hidden loot, but there's also some instant death drops that are hard to see under the water. So unless you have a light source or you want to mess with your light settings, it's safer to just stick to the central path.

Approaching the hut causes the Milfanito inside to stop singing which may make some lizardmen you haven't killed yet to aggro. Be wary of that. Talk to her for a Smooth & Silky Stone and move on. On the other side of the hut you'll be able to see three more Archdrakes and a bunch more lizardmen (you'll only be able to see a little of their backs sticking out of the water). Running straight into the middle of them is a great way to get killed to death, so instead what you want to do is draw them one by one with arrows. The best spot to do this from I've found is right by the lit torch. Once you get a little further than that, the Milfanito starts singing again so once the Archdrakes are dead you can just follow the path to the cave.

Inside the cave is a mushroom bug like the ones from Harvest Valley, but this one has corrosive gas instead of poison so watch out. There's also a small side room with some lizards and loot. Once you cross the fog wall you're in the next section. Head to the ruined building to get the next bonfire and do it quickly because this is where the mage snipers start.

Crumbled Ruins to Rhoy's Resting Place

Go out the back way from the building. There's no singing in this section so lizards are both more aggressive and harder to spot ahead of time. Keep an eye out for the wake they cause when they're coming for you. If you have enough range (Hunter's Blackbow + Hawk Ring is just barely enough) you can shoot across the lake to hit the mages in the pillars there. It's a lot safer to get them here than later when you get over there and they're guarding the last Estus shard and Sunlight Blade. Lightning Arrows are really useful for long range sniping because they fly completely straight with no arc. Also try and get the big ogre across the way. You're standing outside his leash distance and he gets stuck on lizards in the water so you're completely safe.

Walk through the pillars by the building and keep an eye out for mages. It can be a little hard to distinguish them from the glowing flowers at first, but there's plenty of cover to duck behind if they spot you first. There'll be one among the pillars and one off to the left on some dry land. Once those two are dead, head over to that strip of dry land. Following the path the land makes is the best way to guarantee you won't fall off an underwater ledge. Keep on the lookout for more mages and lizards, but you've still got plenty of cover and safe places to retreat if you have to.

From where the mage was standing, there'll be some fallen rubble making a ramp. It can be a little finicky to jump up on it, but if you can it's definitely worth it. Melee enemies can't reach you up there and the lip of the ramp means you can duck down and avoid any spells that get shot at you. In other words, you can snipe absolutely everything you can see from up there from complete safety. Prioritize the three mages directly in front since they're the only things that can threaten your lordly position. Ignore the Dragonrider off to the left, you can't get to what he's guarding yet anyway. The Old Knight off to your right might be a bit of a tough nut, especially if you're relying on poison arrows because he's immune. The various lizards are a low priority, but you can snipe them if you want.

Once you're done there, drop down and follow the path over to the lit area in the wall. There's a mage inside, but they're pretty much helpless once you're in melee range so it shouldn't be an issue. make sure you pick up the Fire Seed. From that doorway area, you should be able to snipe a few more mages (remember to use cover) and have a pretty safe shot to the hut. Now's probably a good time to go out and get that Estus shard. Only attempt it if you have a light source. There are some very narrow walkways leading to it. There's also Fire Tempest in a chest way off to the side, but you can get that in the Dragon Aerie so it's not a big deal.

Inside the hut is not much other than a summon sign for Lone Hunter Shmidt, who usually draws aggro from everything in sight and then immediately falls to his death, so don't bother. Outside, there's a lone Archdrake patrolling who shouldn't be too much of a bother. Step up onto the walkway that's there but don't go to the end. There's a mage who'll start shooting if you do and since there's not much cover it's important to get the first shot off. Once that mage is dead, survey your surroundings.

Off to your left is a cave and some enemies that can be safely ignored unless you want a kinda crappy dress. Directly ahead are some Archdrakes (one of them pretending to be a flower) and a couple mages that you can ignore. By the time they aggro you'll be past them. Shoot the leftmost Archdrake to single him out. The good thing about being on the walkway is that it forces enemies to go all the way around to get to you, but you don't have much room to maneuver. With that Archdrake dead, shoot either one of the others to aggro them both. This can be pretty dicey, and if you're not sure you can survive two of these guys at once, maybe try retreating back into the hut to use the doorway as a choke point.

With those guys dead, just follow the dry land path to the fog, kill a conga line of acid mushrooms and you're at Rhoy's Resting Place. Take a break. You're past the worst part.

    The Home Stretch

There's a giant mushroom (NOT friendly) between you and the next part. Either strip naked (including rings) before getting close, use ranged attacks or summon Felicia the Brave and let her handle it. With them dead, be careful leaving the cave. There's a mage who'll start shooting as soon as she can see you. Use the wall for cover and you shouldn't have too much trouble. Before going any further, survey the scene. The mage in the center spams Great Heal and while she can be killed at range, it's not easy. The one one the far side is your standard snipy mage and can be sniped back easily. There's a third one off to the left hiding among the pillars that you should take out too. Don't worry, the Archdrakes don't leave the circle.

With the ranged enemies dealt with, go summon Felicia (if you didn't already) and go in for some melee. Let Felicia Leeroy Jenkins on the Archdrakes to draw aggro so you can target the healer. Then stab them in the back. There's some lizards around the edge, but there's singing in this area so you should be fine as long as you don't trip over them. Take a little time to loot the area. Red Iron Twinblades and Homing Crystal Soul Mass are worth fighting some lizards for. Then and only then go down the hallway. You'll be invaded by Peculiar Kindalur, but as long as you don't leave any lizards to surprise you, he's a pushover. He's a pure spellcaster so as long as you're up in his face he's kinda helpless.

Enter the hut and talk to the Milfanito there. Felicia is useless against the boss so black crystal her before you go through the fog.

    Demon of Song

Not a really hard boss, but in stark contrast to pretty much the entire rest of the game, it's a lot harder at range. It has projectile attacks that aren't exactly easy to dodge and you have pretty tight windows to get shots off. Get up in its face and it has a very slow, telegraphed and predictable moveset. It's weak to Dark and Lightning and only its obvious weak spot can take damage. Shouldn't be too tough.

Make sure you shoot the butterfly on the roof of the arena and move on. From the arena, you can either go straight to the Undead Crypt after you deal with the Syan Knight guarding the door, or head over to the tower, unpetrify the statue and light the last bonfire. Be careful of Basilisks if you do the latter. It's a nice bonfire to have for later because you can get free Humanity at the altar inside. Just be careful of the pyromancers that live there.

And that's the entire Shrine of Amana. Really not that hard or that time consuming with the right approach, now was it?

What makes this game so special?

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 05:20 AM PDT

I'm curious to hear your opinion.

After a very long time, I'm back on Dark Souls 2 SOTFS. This was my first Souls game, on the Xbox One. It was an extremely harsh experience because it was my first "hard" game, but I kind of enjoyed it. But I thought to myself "never again", because it felt like a hard journey that you only enjoy in your memory and not by living it again, in a way... but the game opened me the gates of From Software, I now I can say Dark Souls 3 is my favourite game, and Bloodborne that I did recently too, should be my second favourite. But I was in need of a break so I told myself, why not try DS2 on PS4? And I did it.

It has been few days and I'm back in Drangleic, but there's something very special about DS2 and I can't really explain. Even if the mechanics are a bit clunky (I'm thinking about how slow we are, etc), the games seems "fresher" in some aspects, and it's full of nice ideas that have been dropped by DS3 and BB (and I don't always know why).

For example, when I'm in Majula and there's this music, and this calm landscape with the sea, I could literaly sit here for hours and just watch and listen. The NPCs seems extremely alive, and I really rely on what they say, they give a sort of impression of sadness, all of them being lost here with a bit of their memory being lost (I'm thinking for example about the Blacksmith and his daughter, that is a bit amnesic). Also, the phantoms or the NPCs doing gestures (something missing in DS3), these little details. I'm also thinking about Shrine of Amana that is literally hell, but at the same time one of the most charming places in the whole series thanks to these colours and the Milfanitoes singing.

I can't put precise words on it, but Dark Souls 2 has something special (so do the other games too, but differently). And even though I'm not super familiar with all the secrets of Drangleic (it was my first Souls game I remind you), I'm happy to be back in this game and ready to explore what I left unexplored in my first playthrough... so... what makes this game so special to you?

    Are shields viable weapons?

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 10:27 AM PDT

Well, it's more of a "do you think shields are viable weapons" but regardless.

Each shield has the ability to be used for strike (and some thrust, I think?) damage. They're rather slow and low damage compared to alternatives but they can work. Aside from some obvious awnsers like some of the casting shields and a poison infused moon butterfly shield, how do you think a shield/greatshield build would work? (I've been testing this myself and I kinda like it ngl)

    Strange Sunbro happenings

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 10:50 AM PDT

Yesterday I thought I'd be a sunbro and help out people trying to beat Fume Knight and Sir Alonne. My character is meta level, but I was still getting summoned regularly to my surprise.

I got summoned for the Fume Knight fight. Outside of the little bonfire room, I see the host. He's being attacked mercilessly by the large enemies near Fume Knight, but it's not doing any damage to him. He's stuck on one of those whispering statues that you have to put smelter wedges in. Sensing that the game was glitched, I let the enemies kill me. But the 'You Died' words never appeared on my screen, so I'm still in the host's world, watching him be endlessly attacked while frozen on a statue. I wasn't able to pull up my menu, or do anything. I had to turn it off. I signed back in and this time I see a sunbro sign, and summon a sunbro into my game. The sunbro spawned, and followed me to the fog door. I went through, but he could not. He just stayed out there attacking the fog door, unable to enter. I killed Fume, and the sunbro was gone. I rested at the bonfire, and saw the same sunbro sign appear so I summoned him again to see what would happen. He appeared, but he couldn't move. He just kept doing the prostration gesture, but couldn't take a step. I tried to black crystal him out, but I couldn't.

    Metal chest mimic

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 08:25 AM PDT

Found out they exist, well at least one in Euleum Loyce.

Did not get killed by initial chew, but soon after.

Although I died, was glad it was by the until-then-unknown-me metal chest mimic.

Question: how do I get special moves while dual wielding and which stats should I level up for such a build?

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 10:55 AM PDT

I know some weapons get different moves when used with another weapon, how do I use those? I want to make a playthrough around that, so which stats are best?

How do I make bosses focus strictly on me and not on my summon?

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 01:42 PM PDT

TIL Being naked with powerstanced caestus isn't that bad of a set-up

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 01:39 PM PDT

Combined with how little stamina 2 caestuses drain and the stamina recovery of being naked you can pretty much dodge most weapons.(Bonus you could use the Chloranthy ring +1 to essentially become Neo)

    Elemental Weapons

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 07:17 AM PDT

Hello! I was a huge fan of dark souls 1 and am just now getting into the sequel. I just arrived in The Lost Bastille and found McDuff. I'm doing a strength build and wielding a club+6. Should I infuse it or keep it standard? If I do infuse it, which elemental path should I choose? Thank you!

Starting an OP sorc build. What weapon should to use from beginning/middle/end???

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 12:57 PM PDT

So I just beat the game and absolutely loved it. I'm now on a mission to get as OP early on as possible. Going to shoot for early staff of Wisdom +50 int.

I found a Heides sword, should I upgrade that?

Should I go the typical Rapier path?

Any good suggestions for fun low req early weapons? There doesn't seem to be a whole bunch from what I've seen

    Thanks!!

    turned out ds2 was pog

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 05:00 AM PDT

i played almost all fromsoftware games even i tried king's Field but seriously i never touched ds2 cause i back off after seeing that copy pasta about bosses and enemies being ganky and bad and recently i didn't had any games to play so i said to myself fine im gonna play it and turned out i enjoyed it. the look the lore the animations they are all unique from other souls game. in my opinion ds2 is better then ds3. as ds3 tried to be like ds1 (which fans liked i dont know why) ds2 was unique the lore was better then ds3. the characters were cool and are the most i enjoyed hearing their dialogue. the dlcs were a nice conclusion to the story. ds3 did only one job done which is the bosses cause thats what fans only likes. the bosses yes there were reskins but didnt every souls game have some of those. the lore was great cause it allowed you to create a story from your own perspective. unlike dark souls 3 which like lets just throw them informations about what happened in ds1 so they will not give their perspectives about it. while ds2 is still my least favorite fromsoftware game after ds3. it's a game that i recommend everyone to play it. and sorry if i was a little harsh on ds3. while this game was great for me i recommend fromsoftware to not make sequel games to any of their titles and its time to throw and bury the dodge and hit mechanics.

Popped My Fume Knight Solo Cherry!!

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 11:52 AM PDT

This is only the second time I've beaten this monument of a boss, and first time solo! I went the pure naked route since I was getting two-shotted regardless of armor.

    SL 105 , +10 Large Club, Simpleton's Ring/ROB+1/Chloranthy/Life Ring

Took about 12 tries - for some reason his second phase just wrecks me. I can't get the timing down for his superfast slash attacks, so I waited until he did his slow sweep and snuck in for a smack.

Thanks to this sub for numerous hints and different strategies!

Is Leo Ring worth using over these?

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 11:26 AM PDT

Started another ds2 play through again since its been years since ive played and im on ng+ ATM, and might do a ng+2 play through as well (not sure yet). I am using red twinblade but just realized in the ivory king dlc area, those spear/lances that they drop have insane counter damage and a high AR too. So i +10'd it to play around with and it'll be a good thrust weapon swap for me for certain places/bosses (for PvP i switch to sacred chime hammer).

But my ring setup is Flynn's/ring of blades +2/3rd dragon/chloranthy +2. I dont know which one to switch. I have +50 dmg from Flynn's (optimal best output) and +50 from blades, so I dont know which one to drop if it would be worth doing for Leo's?

Why is the DLC so tough? (Or is it?)

    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 06:24 PM PDT

I consider myself to be a veteran of the Soulsborne genre. After first playing Bloodborne (platinum trophy), I worked my way through the entire series.

DS2 was the last game for me to try. I beat it, and stopped playing, never completing the DLC. I got back into it recently, and just took a punch to the gut. Just getting to bosses was tough as shit. But I soldiered on, doing a lot of long range battles to avoid dying. I even beat the Fund Knight, but only after 20-30 tries.

Some bosses, because of their lead up, and because they just seemed like tanks, I skipped. !Blue Smelter, Sing, Gank Robbers).

So I'm fighting Aava, and I think, why don't I ever see someone signs? Why can't I leave a summon? I finally figured out that I had joined the Company of Champions.

I went back immediately to Blue Smelt and Sing, beat them on my first try. Now to Alonne!
