/r/DarkSouls - Modding Monday. Posted: 16 Aug 2020 11:11 PM PDT Welcome to the weekly Dark Souls mod announcement and discussion thread! Beware! Use of mods whilst connected to the internet can cause you to get banned from online play! For more information, or to continue the discussion visit /r/ModSouls Using mods (PC only!) to enhance or add new content to the Souls games is great fun! It is important, however, to understand that mods are against From's EULA/ToS, so there is a great risk of being banned when using them due to From's anti-cheat--which is deployed in most versions of the Souls games. Versions of the games where modding is safe due to no anti-cheat: Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition Versions of the games where modding carries a very high risk of being banned: Dark Souls: Remastered Dark Souls II Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin Dark Souls III Our recommendations for safe modding *This advice is intended for first-time or relatively inexperienced modders who want to get into modding without risking a ban on their main Steam account. Basic Steps: Make a separate Steam account Use Steam's Family Sharing feature to provide your new account with access to your main Steam account's game library. Install games to be used with the new account in a separate directory. Once you've found your mods be sure to read (and follow) the mod author's instructions carefully prior to installation. Set Steam to "off line" mode. Install the mods and perform any necessary setup. Enjoy the fun and interesting experiences offered by mods! Posted: 16 Aug 2020 02:51 PM PDT Just finished Dark Souls, it isn't a game, it's art. I started my second run as soon as i finished, can not wait to explore this world again in a different order. This game has proved that replay value equals freedom. [link] [comments] |
Dark Souls Remastered, 100% Walkthrough. No commentary Posted: 17 Aug 2020 12:33 AM PDT Hi! I recently went for the platinum trophy on PS4, and had a hard time finding a "new game playthrough" that was satisfying to watch or easy to follow. So I've made my own, commentary free, walkthrough! In this walkthrough I will show how to get every item. Find all the covenants. Complete every NPC questline. Stories play out during gameplay, no standing around while they talk! All this done without wasting your precious viewing time I've spent some time finding the best route for everything in one playthrough, from New game to the end. Edited out all loading screens, bonfire resting, confused running around, unnecessary backtracking etc! I hope this will help you get through the game with your bottomless box packed, and a better understanding of Dark Souls 1 Be careful out there, neither of us want to see you go hollow! Thank you Dark Souls (and you random citizens!) Posted: 16 Aug 2020 11:42 PM PDT There's really not much to say, Dark Souls is the best game I have ever played as of yet. I love this game, down to its dark and sad storyline, to the astounding art design and small details. I am only four bosses away (Stray Demon, Manus, Kalameet, & Gwyn), and I just wanted to thank Dark Souls and this community! I doubt I will ever stop checking on this subreddit. Love you guys! Don't you dare go hollow, TheBeanRocks <3 [link] [comments] |
Help please! What am I doing wrong. Posted: 16 Aug 2020 05:01 PM PDT I'm playing a pyromancer right now and I just cannot take down ornstein and smough. Does any one have advice for my build. My stats are as follows
I'm using a +9 fire reinforced club, and my rings are lightning Stone plate ring and dark wood grain ring. My pyromancy flame is leveled to +13 and I'm using the best pyromancy spells I have. Ive been trying to maximize damage by using power within but Im not dealing enough damage before I get tanked. Do I need to level up resistance more? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 16 Aug 2020 08:11 AM PDT This subreddit apparently only allows for text posts, but, well, I spent four months on this thing and it's pretty well-connected to Dark Souls 1, so, I thought it'd be worth sharing. Would love to hear folks' thoughts. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 16 Aug 2020 06:41 PM PDT I've been nervous for O&S the entire game, I was very shocked that I was able the beat them in 3 tries. This isn't me trying to brag, I'm curious if the the Zweihander is just an op weapon? I'm not very good at video games so I've been proud that I was able to keep up. But now I'm thinking that the zweihander is just an op weapon and I've been playing on easy mode this whole time 😅 [link] [comments] |
Does dark souls have a story line? Posted: 17 Aug 2020 01:51 AM PDT |
Posted: 17 Aug 2020 01:00 AM PDT I was attempting a Guts cosplay, and upgraded the greatsword to +15. It's R2 attacks one shots darkwraiths, which is damn useful for farming, And it's reach is ok. I never really used ultra greatswords because they had the same old R1 moveset, but the greatsword feels different to use. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 16 Aug 2020 08:15 PM PDT Sorry for the weird formatting. I wish you could access stats the level of depth you find on Grand Theft Auto. Distance traveled by foot/car/bike or shots fired. They have times wasted/busted and favorite car/weapon. I'd live to see stats on my now NG+7 save file. Here are some of my ideas. Time fighting each boss, Times died (of course), Total enemies killed, Highest souls cache lost, Total souls lost, Players hardest boss (deaths per boss ranked), ... Times died to the Anor Londo archers Just an idea. I'd love to see the numbers is all. [link] [comments] |
Guys, is anyone on dark souls remastered ps4? Thinking abt doing a run-through Posted: 16 Aug 2020 11:50 PM PDT |
Posted: 17 Aug 2020 04:36 AM PDT So, for a long time ive been wanting to do this and finally got almost everything planned, but i still need help. The Build is simple, mostly faith (dark moon blade for blue light saber effect and WoTG or force to simulate force push, and finally undead rapport for mind tricking enemies) then dex or str to wield a long katana or straight sword (be able to enchant it dummy). The weapons and leveling its pretty simple and flexible, but i have a problem with the armor, which one i choose? [link] [comments] |
Darkmoon blade is op but im worried for ng7 Posted: 16 Aug 2020 11:03 PM PDT Im on ng4 or 5 So my build: Painting guardian sword for dps 40 dex So pgs does 408 damage alone But with power within and darkmoon blade +3 and darkmoon talisman (226 magic adjust) because of 53 faith I can deal up to 1k+ dmg. But in ng7 bosses like gwyn have 8k health. So im pretty worried. Should I keep leveling dex or faith but it wouldnt scale very well anymore, what do I do? Anybody got ideas? Edit: pls dont mention sorcery im not changing builds I already have an op sorcerer. [link] [comments] |
What's the best weapon enchantment for a SL1 run? Posted: 17 Aug 2020 03:22 AM PDT What the title says! I can't decide between Lightning, magic, or fire. [link] [comments] |
What encounter do you think is the most well designed in Ds1? Posted: 17 Aug 2020 02:49 AM PDT For me, it has to be the first huge armored Boar you encounter. Seriously, this one small area with a boar and a few hollows is amazingly well designed, and really shows how much thought and effort went into this game. There are so many different ways to deal with the Boar: You can run up on the bridge and do a special plunging attack on it, throw the alluring skulls treasure into one of the fires, run around and stop the hollow from closing the gate, parry the charge and then backstab it, lure it out and fight it one-on-one, close the gate on it to kill it; the list goes on. How I recovered from my awful experience with the Curse Frogs Posted: 16 Aug 2020 08:48 AM PDT My first playthrough of Dark Souls was this summer, and while there was a lot of trial and error, I think the best example of my "low point" in the game was the depths. Sure, there were some tough fights before, the Balder Knights really slowed my progress to Andre, and the Capra Demon was a horrific experience, but the curse frogs made me want to quit. The first time I got cursed, I remembered the undead merchant sold purging stones outside the depths. I had to farm for a while with my poor skills and misunderstanding of some basic mechanics like dodging, shields and equip load (I didn't realise having two weapons in my inventory would end any hope to fast roll) and thus enemies like the dogs were a PAIN to deal with. However, once out, I managed to use up just enough souls to uncurse myself. With renewed confidence, I reentered the depths, and was soon cursed again. Filled with frustration I crawled back to Firelink, and noticing the crestfallen warrior, thought he'd be a great opportunity for some souls. Little did I know that while cursed he virtually one-shot me. Thankfully I had rested at Firelink, so I ran for the safety of the church, remembering the guy there sold something to make NPCs forgive you. When I arrived I nearly cried at the sight of it costing 11k souls; I'd used all my consumable soul items just to get uncursed, I felt like the game had beaten me. Then I saw the guy sold purging stones at 3k, and my heart soared. I took two, uncursed myself, then returned to Firelink to put my Zeihander up the crestfallen warrior's arse. This feeling motivated me to thoroughly research equip load and shields, making my path to the gaping dragon ten times easier, and after defeating the dragon (after a couple of attempts) I felt good. Good enough that I felt numb to the pain of Blighttown; it was a struggle, sure, but after what the curse frogs had put me through, it felt far more reasonable. It was claustrophic, exhausting, painful, but I genuinely love Blighttown's design, the enemies (yes even the toxic archers) and aesthetic, it absolutely nails the hopeless atmophere the game aims for, it might be my favourite area, and I consider this to be that, after what I'd been through, this area's torture felt trivial, almost enjoyable. The journey down to Quelag felt almost fair, and after first timing her (with the help of Maneater Mildred) I felt invincible. This game is tough, don't get me wrong, but after the torment of the first ten hours of my playthrough I do not consider this a ridiculously hard game anymore. It has its difficulty spikes for sure, O&S, I am yet to play the DLC, I still haven't mastered the centipede demon and Sen's Fortress is tough as nails, but I feel like after what the early game put me through I readily enjoy what I'm presented with. Just bought the remaster.... HELP Posted: 16 Aug 2020 01:16 PM PDT I knew this game is considered to be hard but wow was I unprepared. I was hoping some of you dark souls veterans could give me some tips at how to hold my own against even some of the most basic enemies. I've played Jedi fallen order which was much smoother and much easier. I'm not even sure where I am at the moment but I'm stuck at essentially the third bonfire. After getting taken by the raven (I think) out of the tutorial section I went up toward the castle to the right and have been slowly making my way through enemies but just keep dying. I'm determined to press on however and any help would be appreciated. Edit: realized the location is called undead burg [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Aug 2020 02:30 AM PDT Hi guys! I'm doing my first SL 1 run on Dark souls. So far its going great, already defeated Bed of Chaos and am doing Nito next. Any tips or weapons for him at Lv1? I got a +5 lightning hand axe, a +8 fire reinforced club, and an ascended pyromancy glove. [link] [comments] |
Just beat the game for the first time Posted: 16 Aug 2020 12:01 PM PDT Well, my journey has come to an end. This afternoon, I parried Gwyn to death, and accidentally became the dark lord. What a great game. I was entertained from start to finish. The combat and bosses were awesome, the areas were cool and diverse, and the soundtrack was magnificent. Highlights include: Taurus Demon jumping off the bridge. Meeting Solaire and Siegmeyer Killing Havel and finally being able to medium roll Beating Quelaag my second try All of Sen's Fortress Seeing Anor Londo for the first time Beating O and S after ten or so tries and seeing Gwynevere's amazing chest Going into Lost Izalith and getting cheapshotted by bed of bullshit Finding Solaire and the sunlight maggot Getting tricked by Patches Going into the cave before Nito with all the pinwheels and getting killed in three seconds Going into Ash Lake for the first time Cutting off Seath's tail Killing Four Kings first try Seeing the Kiln of the First Flame the first time Going into Gwyn's room and hearing that piano music for the first time, and then subsequently dying to him twenty times Finally parrying him to death and the credits It's been a hell of a time, and so much fun. So rewarding to master the combat and beat that boss that's taken you forever. Thank you to everyone who helped me along the way. Goodbye, Skeleton [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Aug 2020 01:17 AM PDT ive beat every boss except bed of chaos is that the last boss before gwyn or have i missed some? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Aug 2020 04:26 AM PDT (Kind of a dumb question) So this thing happened to me when I was about to enter the abyss. I haven't even know before that if you dequip ring of fap it will be gone forever. So I replaced ring of fap with that ring that can enter the abyss. Because of my stupidity I spammed the confirm button(cuz my PC is potato and the game runs slow) that my ring of fap is forever broken. And I cried for minutes then I just forgot about it. When I jumped through the abyss I died and it seems to be the ring wasn't working. I was like WTF!? Did I miss something!? I have the fucking ring!! I tried it again and I was so upset about it. Is this a glitch or what plss tell me I can't progress the game [link] [comments] |
Yet Another Hollow Ranting About His Experiences With DS1 Posted: 16 Aug 2020 05:53 AM PDT Bloodborne was my first taste of the classic Souls formula, but I always knew that it wasn't the 'authentic' experience. Watching "This Is How You DON'T Play Dark Souls" many years prior gave me a vague understanding of the game. Of course, I didn't have a PC or a console that could play DS1 at the time, so Bloodborne was my only option. This was back in December of 2015. A few months later, I got a PC that could handle DS1 properly at 60fps with DSFix and all that nice stuff. My first run through the game wasn't blind; this was around the time that EpicNameBro was making his "From the Dark" playthrough and I wanted to see what competent gameplay was like. I didn't follow that playthrough verbatim; I went with a quality build and I did some events in the same sequence that Marcus did, but that was about it. My friends who actively played DS1 at the time watched me stream it and they gave me some pointers that helped tremendously. Even with all of that help, with all of the insight into the lore of the game, and all that other good stuff, I couldn't really say I "appreciated" the game like Marcus or my friends did. The core gameplay experience up to and including Anor Londo was fucking fantastic, don't get me wrong. However, I always felt like there was stuff missing that I just couldn't excuse. ENB's playthrough of DS1 did explain why areas like New Londo, the Demon Ruins, Lost Izalith, and the Tomb of the Giants were lacking in comparison to the previous areas beforehand. At the same time, I just couldn't find myself really "loving" it in the same capacity. By the time I finished DS1, I was of the opinion that it was a damn good game that fell apart quite horribly by the end. As such, I couldn't reconcile all the praise I hear about this game with the experience that I ultimately received. Mind you, these were my thoughts on the game back in 2016. Back then, Bloodborne and DS1 were the only Souls games I actually played from start to finish. In the years since, I've played DS2, DS3, and all of their DLCs respectively. I've also played other games that took the Souls formula and tried to put their own spin on it (my favourites being Nioh and Hollow Knight by far). However, DS1 always just sat on the back-burner for me because I never quite felt the impetus to come back. That is... until Hurricane Isaias left me without internet for a few days and I decided to pick up my copy of DS1R on a whim because it was the only game I could play offline on my PS4. Going through DS1 for the first time since 2016, and functionally "blind" to boot was quite an odd experience. I decided to start as a Bandit for the sake of "efficiency" because 90% of my opening levels would've been dumped into END anyway. I was tempted to farm for a longsword because I've grown so accustomed to straight swords due to my attempts at challenge runs in DS3. Instead, I opted for the Zweihander and spent my opening levels from the Undead Asylum on the minimum levels necessary to wield it. The rest of my early game went along the lines of a "typical" veteran playthrough: dash through Valley of Drakes, nab the proud knight soul shard and the RTSR, light the bonfire near Darkroot Garden, grab the Grass Crest Shield, make a mad dash for the Undead Parish, light the bonfire there and kindle it, buy 9 titanite shards with the souls I picked up along the way, upgrade my weapon to +5, all that good stuff. That's when I found myself actually contemplating what to do next, and finally the praise that DS1 got "clicked" with me. DS1 provides you with so much versatility in how you want your early game to go and it was that versatility that I never managed to experience because I did things in the "intended" route. Sure, I started with the Master Key in my original playthrough of the game but I never used it to the same extent that I have recently. I knew you could avoid Hellkite entirely but I've never actually done it until last week. That's when I decided to go directly to the Lower Undead Burg and free Griggs so that I could make use of spells like Fall Control. Again: I was aware of all the shenanigans that Fall Control enables, but I never did a Fall Control quit-out until I decided to skip the Catacombs entirely and make the run straight to Pinwheel. It took me quite a few tries to nail the timing, but finally performing a successful Fall Control quit-out was gratifying (especially after avoiding the Bonewheels and killing Pinwheel early without needing the help of Paladin Leeroy). After that, I decided to purposely trigger Patches so that I could grab the Skull Lantern and bone back to Firelink. Why? Because I wanted to trade the lantern for a Ring of Fog from Snuggly before grabbing the Rusted Iron Ring. After boning back to Firelink, that's when I decided to make the trip into Blighttown so that I could farm the bloated leeches for both Large and Green titanite shards. I decided not to mimic GiantDAD and opted to make a divine reinforced club while saving the large shards for my Zweihander. Next stop was the Moonlight Butterfly followed by the Capra Demon. At the time of writing this, I have:
This was all before I even rang a single bell of awakening. I know this isn't necessarily the most impressive list of feats to accomplish in the game, but honestly? I'm slowly starting to appreciate the game in ways that I was never able to previously. I haven't figured out the direction I want to take this character in, but I'm still eager to see what I can do if I put my mind to it. I think I might kill Quelaag first so that I can unlock the Daughters of Chaos bonfire and perhaps kill Ceaseless early, but that's yet to be seen. Moral of the story? DS3, Bloodborne, and even DS2 might have their moments of mechanical superiority but DS1 takes the cake in terms of what direction you want to go along with the tools that FromSoft provides so that you can accomplish whatever you want. Hell, my gameplay's actually pretty atrocious but I managed to get this far. DS1R might not be the remaster we all hoped it would've been but I still got plenty of mileage out of it. I never would've imagined that I'd have fun with DS1 in the same way that I had fun on Bloodborne, DS3, or even DS2. I always just dismissed DS1 as too clunky for its own good. Hell, I still think it's too clunky for its own good. Even so, that doesn't change the fact that it's probably the most amount of fun I've had with a Souls game in recent memory. [link] [comments] |
"Easy" Fights you found difficult? Posted: 16 Aug 2020 10:29 AM PDT Interested in this because I seem to have a different challenge with some bosses compared to the community. My example is Gwyn. I just cannot parry in DS! So he kicks my ass all over the arena. [link] [comments] |
Edited the standard cover for Dark Souls with the PS4 logo Posted: 17 Aug 2020 03:34 AM PDT It's not a great edit, but i've aways liked this cover for how simple it is. Also i dislike the remaster's title in the middle of the cover box, but the art for that one is fantastic as well. Edit: Also just noticed it says only on Playstation lol my bad. [link] [comments] |
