    Sun Bros......

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 11:36 AM PDT

So even if I do not need help with a boss, if I see golden sign, I am summoning them. They are looking for their sunlight medals and need help collecting them.

Help a Sun Bro out when you can and help them get to their 30 Sun Medals. Out of all of the medals it is usually those that are the hardest to receive.

    Good luck Sun Bros!

Linked the flame for the first ever time

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 11:49 PM PDT

I've seen many videos and posts and all that stuff about this game. Stayed away because I knew my hotheaded arse can't get through a punishing game like this.

Then Covid-19 happened, Started the game and ended it after 79 hours. The hoarder I am, I hunted for every item in the game, don't know if I missed any. Stayed away from wikis and walkthroughs as much as I can.

Believe it or not it took me a month to get past Taurus demon. I woke up determined to kill the bullheaded demon only to get killed many times and quit the game and not play it for 2-3 days. Finally when I did beat the boss, oh the satisfaction :D. That was when I realized that charging head on isn't always going to work. So I played slow and steady from then on, learning the move-sets and weaknesses.

I grinded a lot any chance I had, putting all those points to strength and endurance. Got the lucky drop of Man-serpent great-sword, and used it till the end of game.

Sometimes I expected bosses to be hard but turned out easier and vise versa. The game never failed to catch me off guard any chance it got. Artorias fight was one of those, May he rest in peace.. and Sif </3.

I killed all bosses I faced except for the Black Dragon Kalameet, I feel bad for not completing the challenge, but due to fear of burning out skipped the fight.

Towards the end I was level 90+, All the four Lord soul bosses where easier than expected except for the Bed of Chaos, I was lost for a bit then figured it out.

The Final fight with Gwyn took five tries I think, and I CAN PARRY HIM! :o. I clicked the parry on instinct and there he was Gwyn Lord of Cinder parried by a Human. Until I figured out the parry, Got punished by his fast attacks.

Of All the games I played, Dark Souls will always have a special place in my heart. For teaching me to be Patient, to get over it, to Git Gud.

    Thank you for reading :)

Why is dark souls better than dark souls 3?

    Posted: 19 Aug 2020 03:39 AM PDT

So ds3 was my entry into the series, I played dark souls after that. And for a long time I said ds3 was better. My reason for this was that ds3 looked better, had better bosses, better OST, better combat, better difficulty, fairer, smoother and much more, along with the removal of some annoying mechanics such as curses removing half your health.

Yet over time I've grown to like dark souls more, and even more that ds3. I still believe all the things I said before (better bosses, gameplay, etc). But the world design of dark souls just trumps it all for me, no game even comes close to matching it. But I don't know why this one thing trumps everything in ds3 for me, it just does.

Also I feel like I shouldn't have to say this, but this post is completely my opinion and I'm not trying to state anything as a fact.

Does any one else get a really cozy feeling when you see a bonfire?

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 10:16 PM PDT

I just imagine the character huddled up close to the warm, bright light of the bonfire that keeps the creatures in the near dark at bay.

Which bosses would be unbeatable if controlled by a player?

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 05:58 PM PDT

I often wondered about this and I guess essentially none would really be unbeatable but which one would be the hardest and why?

    Have fun! :)

    Should i play DS remastered?

    Posted: 19 Aug 2020 01:05 AM PDT

Sorry if this is a recurring question, but I read the sub rules and hopefully I'm not breaking any.

I have played (and LOVED) bb,ds3 and sekiro in that order, even platinumed bb and would ds3 but don't have the time.

I'm in a ds sub so you probably all love the game, my question is will I still enjoy it after playing through from soft newer creations? Or will it feel old and clunky? Is the pvp community still active? Is it still worth playing in 2020?

    Thanks a bunch!

Is my playthrough nullified for using the Gravelord sword?

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 06:41 AM PDT

My brother and one of my cousins got me into Dark Souls last year and I beat it using the Gravelord sword. I didnt know that this was OP and I found it all on my own.

They said that if my playthrough is to count, I have to beat the game without that or any black knight weapons. I think this is stupid. Am I the only one that thinks a Dark Souls playthrough is just a playthrough? I can kind of get behind the Gravelord sword, but black knight weapons too? They think this is "cheating" by using these high damage weapons but I think they're just being stupid. What do you guys think?

Do you think looking at guides makes the dark souls experience worse?

    Posted: 19 Aug 2020 12:17 AM PDT

If you're stuck on a boss or don't know where to go do you think looking at a guide would diminish the experience? I've been wondering about this because I'm prone to getting lost in games for whatever reason and often turn to guides for help, with Dark Souls I'm trying my best not to look anything up so I'm wondering your opinions

Are invasions still working? No luck in 2+ hours

    Posted: 19 Aug 2020 03:59 AM PDT

Ok so, I finished the game for the first time last January, and I absolutely loved it

Now, after various other playthroughs it occurred to me that i didn't explore the multiplayer aspect of the game since I always played online. No co-op for bosses, and of course no gankers (except O&S, but I love them)

So, after a bit of research, i decided to start NG+ on my first (lv 125) character and entering the Darkmoon Blade Covenant: this Covenant seems fun, has an interesting lore and the Darkmoon Blade Miracle is really sweet on my STR-FTH build

After entering the Covenant o tried various times to invade "sinners" with the Blue Eye Orb, with absolutely no luck. I've tried in Anor Londo, the Burg, the Parish and also the Darkroot Forest (in which I was the one invaded, by a blue phantom. Dunno why but it was a nice guy, so it's fine)

Am I doing something wrong? Should i change areas? Or there aren't enough people that are indicted?

(FYI I play the Remastered version on the Nintendo Switch)

    Where to go next?

    Posted: 19 Aug 2020 03:45 AM PDT

Just beat Smough and Ornstein. Where should I go next? I've been told I should go to new Londo since it is beneficial for a STR build. Is this true?

Defeated the Capra Demon first try.

    Posted: 19 Aug 2020 03:39 AM PDT

I bought the game a few days ago and I had really hard time at Undead Asylum (where I tried to beat Asylum Demon with the broken sword handle) than Taurus Demon was a huge challenge until I watched a tutorial and spent 5 hours stuck on Bell Gargoyles. And after that I kinda caught onto the game mechanics and defeated the Moonlight Butterfly first try then Hydra first try and Capra Demon was pretty easy I think I finally understood the game.

Had my boyfriend beat Orenstein and Smough for me, and now I feel like I cheated.

    Posted: 19 Aug 2020 02:50 AM PDT

Some background about me- I have only played a few video games in my life, only because I recently bought a Nintendo Switch, and that was to play Animal Crossing. When my boyfriend told me about Dark Souls, I felt I was up for the challenge. It's been ridiculously hard, but nothing has discouraged me as much as Orenstein and Smough.

When I first attempted orenstein and Smough, I was excited for the challenge. But after the next few attempts, I grew more and more discouraged. I went from excitement to frustration to misery. My boyfriend was next to me as I set the game down, defeated and miserable. He said something to cheer me up, and I barely registered, still so upset over the fight. He had beaten the game and was reassuring me that this particular fight was especially hard. I was barely able to get a few hits in before I immediately was killed, I thought it was just impossible. I considered the fact that maybe I was just terrible at this game, and that made me feel even worse. I began to cry. I know, sounds ridiculous, but I was just so upset and humiliated from the fight. I asked him to beat them for me, and he did it first try, which made me feel even worse.

Anyway, now I'm getting further and further in the game, and after defeating other difficult bosses, I've started to realize how good it feels to win a frustrating fight. I'm starting to think I cheated my way through one of the hardest in the game and that maybe I don't even deserve to be where I am. I didn't earn it myself after all.

    Solaire Concept for Smash

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 02:29 PM PDT

I already posted this in the Smash Ultimate Subreddit but I wanted to see what you all thought of this. I spent a decent amount of time on this and I hope you like it. I've been trying to imagine what it would look like if my favorite warrior of the sun was in smash. Feel free to give suggestions! The spirit category is a little under developed along with the stages but I think my favorite idea is his final smash. Also apologies for poor formatting (I'm on mobile).

Entrance animation: rising up and praising the sun like he's been summoned

Potential Taunts: praise the sun (non negotiable), well what is it, point down, my thanks, bow

Alts: every other with sunlight maggot, one as golden warrior of sunlight spirit.

Victory screen: praising the sun, placing summon sign down, flashy sword moves

    Dodge: quintessential roll

    Standard Attacks

A: standard sword character attacks with similar animations to the sunlight straight sword move set in dark souls 1.

    Specials

Neutral: lightning spear/ great lightning spear/ sunlight spear - hurls variation of miracle lightning spear straight foreword. If held or charged long enough it will power up (like robins electric attack)

Side: grabs shield with both hands and whacks opponent. Can reflect projectiles and does large shield damage.

Down: Parry with shield. puts enemies in abridged shield break animation. needs follow up with press of A button right after for a riposte and massive damage

    OR

Dark souls 3 sunlight straight sword weapon art buff (Oath of Sunlight)

    OR

Switches between one and two handing sword. Shield on back blocks light projectiles on back when in idle animation (like links Hylian shield except on back). Attacks are slower but do more damage.

Up: teleport with gold summon sign OR some variation of a spinning attack

Get up attack: sunlight straight sword rolling attack

    Aerials

    Up: overhead slash

Neutral: Ike nair clone with sword and shield

    Foreword: triple sword poke

    Back: shield bash

Down: plunging attack (the most reliable move in the game) - can spike

Final smash: jolly cooperation - initiation hitbox is sunlight spear. White Phantoms of random smash characters will join solaire in pummeling the opponent

    Possible Spirits

Ornstein and smough: Golden large Dedede with slow super armor and pikachu

Siegmeyer: metal ganondorf who prefers to use smash attacks

Artorias and Sif: wolf and ike

    Patches: captain falcon?

    Gwyn: Roy

Kalameet: large charizard or Ridley. Player will take double damage for short intervals (calamity effect)

The Four knights of Gwyn: pikachu, Ike, large link, marth

Gwynavere and Gwyndolin: palutena and Zelda. Teleports frequently (lordvessle reference). Once palutena dies Zelda (gwyndolin) appears.

Invaders: various mii fighters dressed in red appear at regular intervals throughout the fight.

Possible Stages kiln of the first flame (Gwyns bass room)

Ornstein and smough boss room (can be day or night Anor Londo)

Sens fortress (morphing stage with hazards such as swinging blades and arrow traps)

    Firelink shrine

Bridge with the hellkite drake (occasionally swoops In to wash some of the stage with fire)

The abyss (completely black screen. Walk-off stage. Single bonfire and kaathe in the background)

    Possible Music

    Ornstein and smough

    Gwyns theme in final battle

    Taurus demon

    Bell gargoyles

    Sif

    Fire link shrine

I know that there are a million other characters that are more likely to be in smash but I can't help but imagine if this icon of a game so monumental it made its own genre was given the honor of joining the roster. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

I could just be an idiot, but I just realized something.

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 10:41 AM PDT

All the more powerful enemies who don't leave bodies behind (Bosses, Silver Knights, etc) explode into ash. They white-grey stuff is a mixture of souls and ash.

Again, I just realized this, but I got my first dark souls game in early 2019.

Never appreciated the Artorias fight until today in NG+

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 03:19 PM PDT

I come from Bloodborne and DS3 as my first souls titles and was very excited to go back and play DS1 for the first time last year and I was smitten with the level design in the first half of the game (Izalith/demons ruins...) but I was extra excited for the Artorias DLC since I loved the Abyss Watchers so much and loved his lore.

Santurary Guardian was a pushover and I was a little worried but decided whatever and pushed through to Artorias and upon fighting the Knight I beat him first try and felt really bummed. The fight seemed way too easy and he didnt hit that hard and felt so squishy. I was so sad. I ended up beating Gwyn by accident and not even getting to fight Kalmeet or Manus.

Fast forward to a couple days ago where after beating the game a couple times for invasion buds I decided to revisit my old first time save and do the DLC for the first time and finish, just in NG+ now. With +2 Black Iron set (plus swag pig helmet) and a +15 Zwei I headed out to fast track towards the DLC and holy hot cannoli. Santurary Guardian was suddenly a scary beast that took me about an hour or so to beat, the basic enemies were dabbing on me, and by the time I got to the Artorias fight and the shortcut unlocked, I had gotten excited again.

Artorias wiped the floor with me and it was great! This time around it's been the epic fight I thought it would be and it is AMAZING! Probably my favourite fight so far in this game. After about 13 hours I finally beat him (without upgrading gear past what it was and staying at lvl 100) and damn was it satisfying.

Cant wait to fight NG+ Manus blind now.
