TIL that killing the red phantoms in undead crypt also turns off the lit statues (one phantom per statue) (SOTFS)

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 09:19 AM PDT

You know how lighting the small statue in undead crypt illuminates the entire area? Well apparently each of the illuminated large statues has its own corresponding red Phantom and at once you kill it the large statue "turns off"

Kill all of them and the crypt is dark again, but the small statue is still lit (and the torch if you lit it)

3 in the main room with the lit statues

2 in the room with the spellcasters (near agdayne)

1 in the room with the Syan knights

1 in the upper room with the caster (near second bonfire)

1 in the room below that (the second room full of tombstones

1 in the hidden room with great lighting spear

1 in the hall before Veldstadt

Possibly missing some other obvious ones....but at least 10 of them spawn

I might be biased because ds2 was my first, but majula is by far the best starting area as far as aesthetics and music go. I miss the simpler days

Drangleic Castle is easily my favorite “castle area” out of the entire series.

    Posted: 21 Aug 2020 05:17 PM PDT

The aesthetic is so amazing, I'm a huge sucker for rain and thunder and the entire castle looks so gothic and almost "haunted". I love it! The architecture looks so interesting too and different from other castles.

I’m finally about to finish dark souls 2

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 07:18 AM PDT

Over the quarantine I started playing the dark souls game for the first time starting with DS1, then DS3, and now I'm finishing DS2. I would of gone in order but after reading a lot of negative things about DS2 I played it last. I want to start off by saying it's a great game. I do however understand now a lot of the criticism it gets. I am very much what people would call a "casual". So I understand that people who are better at the game or like more challenge might have a better experience, but there were parts of this game that made me hate my life more then any other DS game. That's mostly from the DLC, I just about had a brain aneurism trying to kill the blue smelter daemon. I have no idea why they thought that bull shit route to the boss would be a good idea but that really made my view of the game dwindle. I burnt through half my effigies before deciding to give up on the dlc. Now this area definitely was my least favorite but there were a lot of these annoying areas in the base game as well. Tons of archers and casters from a far and multiple tank enemies to kill at a time. This was my first DS game playing as a caster (I've only done strength builds prior) and honestly I don't think I could of gotten through the game any other way. With all that being said there were times I really enjoyed the game, although it didn't have as much intertwining levels as the first there were still a lot of interesting shortcuts and secret bonfires/passages. I don't think this game deserves the hate it gets but I really don't think I'll be revisiting it again. In my opinion as a scrub I would say that DSR: 10/10 DS2: 7.5/10 and DS3: 8.5/10. I can't wait to try blood borne and I hope it has the elements of the first game that made me fall in love with this series.

    Anyone wanna dump some effigies?

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 08:49 AM PDT

Getting real tired of farming dogs every time I slip off and edge or roll the wrong way. Up to Old Iron King, not much game time with 2 kids so really hate to spend hours farming.

I prefer Fume Knight Raime over Sir Alonne

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 12:19 PM PDT

Both bosses are cool and all... but at least the fume knight didn't have a gauntlet of bullshit to go through before the actually fucking boss. I know several bosses have the same thing, but for Sir Alonne to have one is criminal.. I couldn't give a shit about Blue Smelter Demon, so I don't care about the gauntlet, but for Alonne? Really?

Whilst fighting and dying to Fume I could experiment, try new strategies and builds because the fight was near the bonfire, whilst for Alonne, dying felt worse due to the fact that I knew I had to go through over a dozen of those bastards, which also hampered any thought of trying a different fighting style.

Really sucks, I was super hyped up for Alonne, and while he was fun to fight, it was more frustrating to die to him, really disappointed me.

P.S. Fighting Fume with Velstadt's Helm is a lot more fun than I thought it would be lol

Mimic grab hitboxes encompass their whole body

    Posted: 21 Aug 2020 04:52 PM PDT

Let me clarify. I went to kill the mimic in bright stone cove steldora, I was attacking it from behind. It did it's grab attack and then suddenly I was infront of the mimic getting grabbed.

    Dex weapon stuff stones

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 02:08 PM PDT

Is there like a stone that makes my dex weapon damage higher? Like in ds3? Where you can use a sharp stone to make it go up?

    DS2 to me

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 05:16 AM PDT

First off, I just wanna say that I love all 3 games and Bloodborne and Demon Souls too. Now I simply love DS2. Its areas, somewhat ganky but sometimes its just good to look at. In DS1 the only place that achieved this is, of course, Anor Londo. In DS3, The Ringed City was beautiful. All the other areas felt good to look at but there was often too much gray.

Now the combat. DS1 helped me realize something. I'm a huge masochist when it comes the Souls games. The more unfriendly a weapon, the more I liked it. In a way, I guess I'm similar to Benett Foddy the creator of Getting Over It. Great game(you should check it out if you haven't already). Now in an area of the game, Bennet Foddy says that he loves the difficulty of a game. "It's coffee, it's grapefruit, it's licorice". I beat Dark Souls 1 with a Lightning Greataxe +5. I asked the DS1 reddit about it and they asked me if I was insane. It was one of the most unusable weapons in the game, they said. However when I tried a different weapon, I sucked with it. I actually sucked with the Black Knight Halberd and the Zweihander and worst of all, the Claymore.

Anyways my point is that I'm an extreme masochist when it comes to this. DS2 worked perfectly for me. The odds were stacked agaimst me, so beating an area gave me a huge sense of accomplishment. The DLCs were insane but i absolutely loved them. Now I'm using a Magic Pursuer's Greatsword +5. It dealt great damage but I loved its lackluster moveset. Anyways I'm finishing up here. Comment if you have any weird quirks when it comes to the Souls series.

    Spoiler free help pls

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 05:40 AM PDT

Ok I just beat dsr and that my my first ever souls experience so I decided to play 2 the first place I find myself in after the tutorial is tower of flame with giant metal dudes and I've already lost like 5,000 souls here not at the same time but It seems doable but at the same time like maybe it's not quite the first place I should be is there somewhere else to go from Majula that I'm missing the blue guy mentioned. Few places but maybe I just didn't see where the entrance is. I'm sure once someone enlightens me I'll feel dumb. Or should I just keep pushing through the tower in the hopes I'll git Gud enough to beat it

    Killed Ornifex

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 11:31 AM PDT

So I accidentally killed Ornifex in Shaded Woods (actually, I think the Basilisk did but w/e). I Googled it and saw a bunch of stuff about how I'm screwed. However can't I just Bonfire Ascetic the Shaded Woods fire and get the Fang Key again? I mean it just resets the area and bumps it into NG+ so it should work right?. I have a Fragrant Branch and the Lion dude won't be too tough.

Edit: oh well I guess I'm screwed til NG+. On a side note, any one have any suggestions of a decent weapon for a primarily Hex caster build that I can obtain elsewhere?

    Iron Keep man

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 12:46 AM PDT

I don't even know what it is about it that makes it so difficult, the alonne knights are fairly straightforward, the area design has a good mix of narrow and open spaces, there's no water or poison to take into account but no matter what, on every playthrough i always get stuck on it. It's one of my favourite areas because of the lore and the ~ a e s t h e t i c ~ but i always feel like I suck at the game whilst dying a million times trying to even get to smelter. I'm level 70 with the big bonk blacksmith hammer but regardless of whether i run through or take my time something always screws me over. I probably do suck at the game tbh.

7/10 overall iron men mean >:(

    M stats are: VGR:31, END:30, VIT:29, STR:50, DEX:10, AGI:100.

Is there a way to increase the damage, or did i already got to the max?

I would love to hit more

Edit: Greatsword+10 have S in STR and D in DEX, in terms of scaling

Dark Souls 3 PVP made me miss the ADP stat.

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 10:18 AM PDT

    The title says it all.
This game PvP is more about spamming rather than clever gameplay. If you ask me, ADP would be really good mechanic if was done right. Or at least, if they removed it and brought back DS1 roll with the ring for more iframes.
I played some PVP (as Church Bro) and my god, the ammount of times the enemy rolled away and iframed most of my attacks and insta healed was insane. I, by no means, believe ADP in DS2 was done right, but a mechanic for iframe management would be really good in DS3. Catching enemy off guard with delayed attacks would be something without the latency/bad connections. And the insta healing made invading/PvPing outside the arena (which again i hated cause most builds are pvp made with my build being more PvE) horrible. Insta healing with insane ammounts of iframes + the non stamina management actually ruined this game's pvp for me.
Don't know, but i think the main reason ADP was so hated was mostly because it was never explained, rather than being a garbage stat.

I've gotten pretty handy at it due to the abhorrence of Amana (really love the look of the place though, one of my favorites)

Can spell deflection be used on bosses with magic attacks? Veld's dark hail/pursuers orbs of hatred/lightning bolts/etc?
