I co-oped for the first time and I feel like I cheated

    Posted: 21 Aug 2020 09:26 PM PDT

So I'm in Anor Londo palace, and I really haven't paid much attention so far to summon signs, because I'm rarely human anyway due to dying a lot. Anyway, I hit a white summon sign just for fun, and this dude shows up and carries me through the entire area, just fucking up every enemy before I can get a swing in and waiting for me to pick up treasure and loot. We get to the Ornstein and Smaug fight and we beat them in like 3 minutes, because clearly this guy has done this before.

I mean, it's cool that I didn't have to die like 25 times going through a new area like usual, and I have lots of fun treasure and souls, but boy do I feel dirty being carried through that entire area. No more co-op for me

[Spoiler Alert] Sad times at Lost Izalith

    Posted: 21 Aug 2020 07:00 AM PDT

A friend of mine borrowed his Steam account for me in the advent of the lockdown, and I decided to venture at Dark Souls. It was actually the very first time I really sat down and played the game as it should be. Through my adventure I've become extremely fond of Solaire. Being a "main paladin" for the most D&D games I've ever played through my entire life, I immediately related to him, more even as my favored deity is Pelor. Solaire appears in the most desecrated and ravinous dungeons I had the chance to pass around, and whenever I talked to him he would always go, optimistically, about finding his very own sun. So one day I reach at Demon Ruins. After being rekt multiple times, I manage to kill the Demon Centipede and move on. And sure enough, Solaire was there to greet me again, but this time he seemed desolate. When exploring Lost Izalith, going through an absolute dark tunnel... my heart dropped when I saw him, utterly corrupted and completely insane, claiming that at last he found his sun. I still feel, until this moment (3 weeks later) that I killed a very close friend of mine. All I did after killing him was finding the shortcut behind him, reached the bonfire, saved, quit, and went to sleep with a lump in the throat. I felt very bad for what happened that night, but at the same time, I didn't know I could feel such emotional pain over a game. This game truly is something else.

This post is a republication as the original title gave too much light about the situation.

    I beat dsr today!

    Posted: 21 Aug 2020 07:17 PM PDT

After getting all the achievements for ds3 and sekiro I decided to get the first game, and damn was it good. The atmosphere, bosses, and level design was some of the best I've ever experienced. My favorite part of the game was probably the bosses. I've listed the number of attempts as well as my opinion on them.

Asylum demon- 1 try. Your basic tutorial boss

Taurus demon- 1 try. Plunging attacks ftw

Bell gargoyles- 6 tries. First real challenge I came across but overall a good boss imo

Capra demon- 2 tries. I killed the dogs quickly but that arena is garbage

Gaping dragon- 2 tries. Stick to the side and punish.

Quelaag- 8 tries. That damn aoe kept one-shotting me and based on number of attempts this is the hardest boss for me

Ceaseless discharge- 1 try. Bait the arm swings and hit. Kinda boring waiting for them and dodging the blasts tho.

Iron golem- 1 try. Ah, gravity.

O&S- 2 tries- Great boss and I went for super smough in my play through.

Seath- 4 tries. I kept trying to cut the tail but when I stopped doing that he was easy.

Moonlight butterfly- 1 try. Second worst boss in the game. Just boring and annoying.

Gwyndolin- 4 tries. I didn't really like this boss. Hiding behind pillars to dodge magic and strafing arrows isn't that fun imo.

Stray demon- 1 try. Basically an asylum demon with aoe attacks and more health and damage.

Sif- 2 tries. Really fun boss that I enjoyed. I didn't get the sad cutscene but I'll go for it in ng+

Priscilla- 1 try. She's pretty easy but The invisibility is cool.

Demon firesage- 1 try. Exact same thing as stray demon.

Centipede demon-1 try. A cool boss that I think got ruined bully the arena.

Bed of chaos- 6 tries. Worst boss, wtf fromsoft

Pinwheel- 1 try. I don't have an opinion on him. He died in 2 hits.

Nito - 2 tries. An okay boss in an annoying area.

Four Kings- 1 try. Cool boss if u have the damage to avoid getting ganked.

Sanctuary guardian- 2 tries. He has no hp and idek how I died to him.

Artorias- 2 tries. Probably my favorite boss in the game.

Manus- 4 tries. Another great boss that has a decent challenge.

Kalameet- 1 try. my second favorite boss after artorias. Just exhilarating to fight with the combination of fire breathing, swipes, and dives.

Gwyn- 1 try. Yeah I parried him to death but a win is a win.

I will work on getting all the achievements for this game and then I plan on starting ds2. For now, Praise the Sun!

So what is the most number of attempts on a boss?

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 12:35 AM PDT

I took 40 tries to beat kalameet (that bastard is tricky), and i thought that was insane it took so long. But I am seeing some people took +100 tries on various bosses. So i am curious, what is the most number of times you took to defeat an enemy???

My Dark Souls Remastered Experience So Far

    Posted: 21 Aug 2020 07:25 PM PDT

So I started off on Dark Souls 2 wayyyy back on PS3. It always seemed like a game series I'd not be interested in so I gave it a shot, unfortunately I found the game too hard and it wasn't a genre I was used too. Tbh looking back Dark Souls 2 is the WORST game to ever start on in the series lol.

Fast forward and Dark Souls 3 is releasing, I bought it on release for PS4. I enjoyed it, got used to the mechanics and got up until The Abyss Watchers, then gave up because they consistently smashed me to pieces. Then my friend helped me through it, up until Pointiff and there on after I did it alone and man it was one of the best experiences of my life. I then played a new game by myself with a new character and that is where my love for Dark Souls started.

Obviously due to this I ended up eventually getting the trilogy boxset when it came out. I've played Dark Souls 3 over 20 times and beat all the bosses multiple times, it's a very rewarding game.

Now Dark Souls Remastered, oh boy. Currently I'm playing Dark Souls Remastered on Xbox One as my PS4 account was banned (but that's a story for another day. I'd gotten as far as The Twin Gargoyles on PS4 they always smashed me because I approached Dark Souls like Dark Souls 3 which is not the way at all. I'm currently in Blightown on the Xbox, I frustratingly worked my way through The Tomb Of Giants early in game which was a curse!

Dark Souls is extremely hard, not because of the enemies or the mechanics but because of the numerous tight areas you are forced to fight through, enemy placements and not to mention the god damn bonfires. Dark Souls 3 had way too many bonfires and also the option in game from the beginning to fast travel, Dark Souls doesn't do this at all and as frustrating as it is I love it. It makes each encounter more intense and also provides as a sense of strategy and forward thinking. I've fallen in love with Dark Souls 1 and it took time. The reason being I started off on Dark Souls 3 and even though they are the same series, Dark Souls 3 is more accessible.

Honestly I can't name a more enjoyable and rewarding game series with amazing lore, world design and art style. I'm glad I ever took the time to try these games out.

Losing my progress in the chaos servant covenant

    Posted: 21 Aug 2020 11:52 PM PDT

I had just beat Orstein and Smough and needed only one more humanity to unlock the secret passage, then when I saw the amazing chest a power took over me and I had abandon my covenant to serve her, only later did I realize that I'd just halved my progress for the servants covenant.

Did the DLCs for the first time and I think I might have overprepared for Artorias...

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 03:17 AM PDT

I'm on my 2nd playthrough of DSR on NG after rushing through my first playthrough just 2 weeks ago and missing out on Ash Lake and DLCs. I finished the game at around SL90 and had a blast! Truly a masterpiece.

Fast forward to my current playthrough where I decided to really take it slow and allow myself to farm, maximize my build, and try to get every Steam achievement. After getting the Lordvessel, I farmed a good amount of time in Ariamis to get 18 INT and FTH for Artorias GS as well as get my main stats to 30 to prepare for the DLC and at around SL100 and wielding a +15 Man-Serpent GS, I decided to finally give it a go. Died to Sanctuary Guardian on my first try because I wanted to cut the tail off and ended up overcommitting to some hits lol. He's sufficiently difficult and gave me quite a challenge, giving me an exciting taste of what's to come in this DLC.

I finally got to Artorias' arena. I was super hyped for this fight because I'm a sucker for humanoid bosses. DS2 was my first Souls game and despite the hate for them, I totally dig the dudes-in-armor bosses there! I was also prepared to die a lot as he's usually in the top spots in a lot of "Hardest DS Bosses" lists that I see. I went in, 20 estus, Havel armor + Mask of the Mother, all ready to be or get rekt.

The Artorias fight is now up there with Gwyn and O&S as one of my favorite bosses in DSR. It -was- a tough fight but I can't help but think that I might have went overboard with the farming and ended up preparing way too much. Now I am a *bad* Dark Souls player. Even on this playthrough, I died like 3 times to Taurus Demon lmao. However, the Artorias fight did not even reach the 2 minute mark. Each hit from my GS took a good chunk of hus HP and I tanked most of his attacks reliably with the Havel set. Took only one try and I never wanted DSR to have Bonfire Ascetic more than that moment. I feel that it should have been way harder and that I took away some of the fun by coming in as an endgame character with maxed out gear. Can't wait to try this fight again as soon as it's doable on my NG+ run!

TL;DR: Artorias is one of the greatest bosses of DSR. The challenge is part of the fun. Don't overprepare!

    Posted: 21 Aug 2020 07:05 PM PDT

Just head to the Sunlight Altar bonfire and look for the summon sign of Mordren (under network settings have your "name display" option set to "Character name" and "Region matchmaking" set to "Global"). Use the matchmaking password DSWPN

I'll be hanging out there for the next hour or so, Cheers!

Knight Artorias, known to vanquish countless knights and players alike. Clapped his ass with a 15+ Zweihander.

Tbh It didnt feel too good because I felt it was too easy chipping away at his health. Anyways its my first playthrough so Ill make sure to do another build next time, see you again in the Colosseum

    Just curious

    Posted: 21 Aug 2020 08:32 PM PDT

This is probably stupid, but having played ds remastered extensively on switch and doing two playthroughs of ds3 on ps4, I'm genuinely surprised at how bad ds2 feels. Don't get me wrong its still a great game, but it feels really clunky in combat and graphically poor.

So my question is: is the remastered ds1 that improved that it legitimately plays and looks better than 2? Or is my perception just skewed because of the odd play order?

Decided to play the three dark souls in order. Part 1.

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 02:17 AM PDT

    I just finished Dark souls.

Gosh I wish this game let me fight more and made me platform less.
It was fun when I was fighting bosses and not trying to deal with the environment. Witch of Izalith. Catacombs....... Sen's fortress...........................................

Still was mostly enjoyable. Onto dark souls 2.

What would a “True Servant of The Gods” run look like?

    Posted: 21 Aug 2020 06:05 AM PDT

Obviously link the fire ending. And obviously making a faith-based build. But what covenant do you join? Way of White? Blades of the Darkmoon? Warriors of Sunlight? Sunlight Princess Covenant?

Do you make it all the way to Kaathe just to attack him (for his heresy) and then commune with Frampt instead?

Do you attack Oswald the Pardoner for representing Velka?

How do you handle dealing with Nito? You have to kill him to beat the game. How would you justify this?

Do you try to avoid killing any sentinels or knights in Anor Londo?

Based on what you know about the lore, what are the specifics you envision about actions you should or shouldn't take if you wanted to be a true servant of the Gods?
