    help with oolacile dragon

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 12:10 PM PDT

So I've finished the main story and almost all bosses in the DLC (got Astorias yesterday and Manus today). Now the only place I have left to go is the path with 3 dogs that leads to a ladder that goes down to where the dragon comes and one shot me with his undodgeable fire everytime.

I don't really like asking for helps or tips I generally figure things out on my own so please no spoilers for the actual fight, just tell me how to not immediately die every time I get there, what am I supposed to do here?

Edit: Okay thanks guys I talked to the nice giant, now I'm off to hunt a dragon!

Advice for noobs from a fellow noob

    Posted: 09 Jun 2020 01:54 AM PDT

For the love of God, don't look too many things up. One quick Google search will send you into a wiki rabbithole, and from there you'll find:

-people equating number of tries it took for them to kill a boss with penis size

-a super cool weapon that you want to go for, but is actually about 20 hours of playtime away from where you are now

-"iF yOU UsE aN AXe yoU'rE a FooL"

    -unintelligible acronyms

-"(boss you've never heard of)? Fucking easy man"

I've decided that for the rest of my playthrough, I'm only looking for help if I genuinely have no idea what to do next - thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

[DSR] I just witnessed a Bell Gargoyle fall out of the arena

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 06:15 PM PDT

As I know it, this is supposed to be impossible, and I have never heard of this happening to anyone else. However, I was sunbroing the gargoyles just now, when I saw the first gargoyle nearly below half health. I walked towards where the second gargoyle would spawn, with my camera facing the first. Number two must have jumped after spawning in because I ran into the fog wall at the other end of the arena before noticing that it was standing on the pedestal behind the wall nearest the roof, on the left hand side if facing the arena entrance.

Sorry if this isn't as interesting to the rest of you but I figured I'd at least let you decide for yourselves!

Here's something I don't see mentioned much: Priscilla's sleeves are wing-like, and not entirely made of fur, as often depicted in art.

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 12:11 PM PDT

This constant bell tolling is getting annoying.

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 06:35 PM PDT

I asked the batwings, and they said that hundreds of people come through the old church every day to ring that stupid bell. It's getting extremely annoying. I'm just trying to meditate and I just hear dong dong dong

Darkwood Grain Ring is semi game breaking. Just one shot Manus on first playthrough, not a good player.

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 10:39 PM PDT

Also took me only 3 tries on Kalameet 1st encounter. This was a pure Dex build, feel like I kind of cheated with DGR but hey it works.

I just arrived in Anor Londo, and was on the banisters when I was invaded by "LoyalTraveler". I panicked and accidentally hit my attack button which sent me off the edge to my death. I'm sorry you didn't get to kill me 1v1.

When an overpowered weapon meets a joke of a boss

    Posted: 09 Jun 2020 03:26 AM PDT

I managed to get a black knight sword early on, and also upgrade it to +3 before i went to lower burg, i went to fight the capra demon, put down the two dogs with ease, then managed to one shot the boss with a plunging attack. I've always heard about how bonkers the black knight weapons are damage wise, but just to witness something like that. Wow.

    Just Play The Game

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 02:25 PM PDT

TL;DR - How you play the game is as respectable as how others do. Its fine to talk about and brag, but stop bashing everyone who doesn't want to play the same way as you.

I have seen countless posts in just the past month of joining this sub saying like "My friend's bashing me for min/maxing my character" or "I got a lot of flack for doing a SL310 PVE build" or "I think the soft caps make the game too easy and if you don't max out at level 27 Strength and 22 Dex then you're not legit". Just like stop it? The developers added all of these features as optional, meaning you can use them or not! Everyone has a different play style and experience as a result. Stop bashing people for how they play the game. There is no "easy mode", there are just people who chose to take advantage of some of the insane weapons and spell accessions, and those who chose to stick to more conservative builds and weapons. It is just unnecessary toxicity and often turns people away from what could be an amazing game experience, but they just don't want to deal with the community. Games are meant to be fun and enjoyed. If you enjoy the challenge of softcaps or PVP level limits and want to restrict your game play to get a different side of the game, that is fantastic and props to you for taking the challenge. If you prefer farming to get your third +5 chaos weapon and all +5 blacknight weapons and armor on you SL600 PVE build, I am in awe of the dedication to those goals as well. Neither is better, and neither makes the game "easier" because you can argue that it takes just as much time and effort to learn the fastest path to run past a bunch of hollows and learn all the right glitches to cheese a boss fight and shave off 3 seconds on your speed run, as it does to work your way up to SL250 and +5 super rare weapons/spells. Have fun with it and talk about all of these different thing! Just stop attacking people for how they want to play.

Thank you for putting up with my rant. Be careful out there, neither of us want to see you go hollow.

    Global restart day

Is it still June 10th and do people still participate?

Why is there no sticky for Global Restart Day? Not meaning any drama, but are mods still active here? Shouldn't it be a sticky?

    Posted: 09 Jun 2020 12:15 AM PDT

I'm really not trying to cause some drama, but are mods still active here? There was a very popular post recently saying Global Restart Day is June 10th, which I believe is a very different date than it usually is and I've also seen several comments and posts that seem unclear whether or not that's the correct date or not.

    Is it?

If so, I could swear big events have always been stickied in the past. Is there a reason this one isn't? Would be nice to get as much exposure as possible and to also even know for sure if that's the right date, which version to play on, basic explanation for newer players, any other pertinent info...

    Kalameet is easy

    Posted: 09 Jun 2020 02:55 AM PDT

I suck at dark souls, i use summons on every boss i can and even then i barely make it. I get conpletly destroyed by most enemies in the game, and often end up simply running past some groups that i just cant get through.

But kalameet was incredebly easy, took him down on my firsr try while listening to a podcast and barely paying attention

Boss respawn for each Age of Fire?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 05:02 PM PDT

Since there are indications that there are a multitude of fire linking cycles with a bunch of CU/BC/AO, are the bosses the same for each of the other cycle protagonists? As in, did the previous chosen undead have to kill O&S? Coz if he didnt, i'd like a chat with the management

    Blighttown is actually good.

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 07:50 PM PDT

It may be an unpopular opinion, but I don't think that Blighttown is a bad area. In fact, Blighttown is one of, if not my favorite area in the game. I started playing the game recently, so I never ran into the infamous frame rate bugs. However, apart from that, the only thing that I can think of that I don't like about it is how easy it is to get toxic. Entering Blighttown through the Depths is one of those iconic parts of the game for me that I look forward to before that point. Blighttown might have the best atmosphere out of any area in the game, and it makes you feel overcome with dread. In my opinion the level design is clever and the traps/ moving floors add variety to the area. At this point in the game, Blighttown is the hardest thing that you've come up against, and it's a boss, itself, in some ways. Once you finally carefully make your way to the bottom of Blighttown, it doesn't reward you, either. What you get is a cruel decision between two bad decisions. (Assuming you don't leave Blighttown through the Valley of Drakes) you can either decide to use the bonfire at the base of Blighttown, and be forced to climb your way back out, or skip the bonfire and risk being sent back up to the top if you die to the boss. Speaking of, Quelaag is a really good boss in my opinion. Even when you're at the base of Blighttown, you're unsafe. Upon reaching the bottom, you are met with a vast poison swamp, which is mostly unavoidable. By the way I've recently been describing it, you may think that I dislike these aspects of Blighttown, but I think these aspects add to the feeling of overwhelming dread that Blighttown attempts to put on the player. What it sets out to do, it does perfectly, and I really enjoy the area for that.

Wife is absolutely furious with me for how much I've been playing, says I have a mental illness

    Posted: 09 Jun 2020 04:10 AM PDT

This is not a lighthearted post. I played for most of the day yesterday and she got incredibly mad that I didn't spend more time with her. She started yelling at me and so I took the ill-advised, defensive route of "well who wants to hang out with someone who just yells at them" and she picked up a bag of laundry and started beating me with it (literally) while screaming. We didn't talk for the rest of the night. I honestly would rather play dark souls than deal with this bullshit. Dark souls may end my marriage guys lol.

She says 1-2 hours of gaming per day is acceptable, but people who stay up all night playing or play more than 5-6 hours in a day have a mental illness I'm like dude you don't understand it's dark souls...you don't just play dark souls for an hour...i don't at least. I told her that 1-2 hours was not something I was willing to capitulate to and she totally lost it. I love my wife but she hates video games (all video games) and I'm not even really interested in compromising she's acting like I'm binging on blow or something..

No, I do not even play video games all the time. I get really into a game, binge on it, and then I go through phases with other activities. If this was an every day all the time thing I would understand, but I just picked up DS3 and DSR on super sale and I'm fired up about both games. Just let a mofo enjoy something for once...

Let me tell you something you already know

    Posted: 09 Jun 2020 03:48 AM PDT

I'll apologise for the ramble in advance.

I recently finished my first ever play through of Dark Souls: Prepare to Die edition and despite coming up to be a decade old – this game is AWESOME!

When you leave the asylum and are dropped off at Firelink shrine with no clear direction on what to do or where to go (at least I was clueless) was refreshing and done very well. Though not knowing what to do can lead to some guffaws, like being told to find Artorias to traverse the abyss then completing (what I now know is) the DLC instead. Made sense to me at the time. I also loved that when you gaze into the distance you see the places that you are heading too or have already been, it's such a great concept and I wish more games did something similar.

Character development wasn't something I delved too deeply on this initial run; Intelligence, Faith, Atonement pfft nah Strength! In my pursuit of using the Dragon King Greataxe – which didn't work out for me – I accidentally created a 'Glass Cannon' character which had its ups and downs. I'm not great at dodging, but you don't need to dodge as much if you can kill everything quickly.
Me in all my (noob) glory: https://imgur.com/93xqdCi

The weapons/armour was a mixed bag for me. I found the Zweihander almost instantly and was still using it when I defeated Gwyn at the end of the game. I like that I was able to keep upgrading my Zweihander to be useful through out the game, but feel that I missed out on a lot of other cool weapons that I picked up that just weren't as good as my Zweihander or the style was to different for me to adopt to after using the Zweihander for so long. Reading this paragraph back reads like I am just complaining for the sake of it, but hey, that's just how I feel about it.

I thought al the boss fights, outside of the bed of chaos which felt a bit meh, were well designed and never felt unfair. I did get frustrated at times, but that would be down to me not dodging when I knew I should or going for a hit when I knew I shouldn't. With so many bosses and them being the cornerstone of the game I think it's impressive that they're done so well.

After gathering the four lord souls and depositing them into the lord vessel my chat told me about some areas that I had missed on my play through. Here I give kudos to both the game designers – for how these areas are found and designed, and to gamers for figuring out how to do this stuff – blows my mind how people find this stuff out sometimes.

The only thing I really didn't like was the jumping. The game doesn't seem designed for jumping and yet there are plenty of times you need to jump for an item or to reach a ledge and the controls are not designed to easily allow me to reach them. I would be shocked to know they were designed this janky on purpose to frustrate the player.

Despite that small detail the game is still awesome and thank you for reading my ramble. If you have never played Dark Souls I cannot recommend it enough.

Looking forward to starting Dark Souls 2 deathless run! Which won't be very long… but I will continue to play after I fail.

P.S I hope the designer for the Kalameet boss fight consistently steps on Lego! Easily the hardest boss for me, took over 2 hours!
