I looked at where people stopped playing Dark Souls

    Posted: 11 Jun 2020 10:06 PM PDT

I recently had a project where we could present on any data set we chose. I used the global achievement data for Dark Souls Remastered. This is what I made:

Why am I doing almost no damage to Artorias?

    Posted: 12 Jun 2020 03:50 AM PDT

I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. This is my first run. I use a +14 uchigatana with 40 dex. Every time I hit him, it only does 60 damage, barely doing anything. I only managed to get him to a quarter of his health before getting two shotted because I was careless. Please help I've fought him over 30 times.

    woah look at dis!

    Balder's Knights failed.

    Berenike's Knights failed.

    Knight King Rendall failed.

    Prince Ricard failed.

    Black Iron Tarkus fell.

    Witch Beatrice failed.

Paladin Leeroy's sole victory was a fleeting one.

    Knight Lautrec failed.

    Big Hat Logan went mad.

    Griggs lost his master.

Laurentis never found the flame he sought.

Pinwheel failed them, then he failed them again.

Crestfallen never got the chance to fail.

    Oscar died without a name.

Hawkeye Gough without sight could see the inevitable better than anyone.

Lord's Blade Ciaran never moved on.

    Dragonslayer Ornstein abandoned his post.

Artorias the Abysswalker never even knew what happened.

Sif died failing to protect his saviour.

    Quelana couldn't face them.

The Fair Lady couldn't save them.

    Quelaag couldn't protect her.

    Kirk couldn't ease her suffering.

    The Silver Knights burned.

    The Black Knights rusted away.

Executioner Smough died guarding a lie.

Gwynevere couldn't face the end and ran.

    The Gods followed.

The Darkmoon Knightess accepted the lie and protected it.

Gwyndolin hid away but even that couldn't save him.

Priscilla was a recluse, never wanted to leave and never wanted anyone to come to her.

Seath went mad. Andre kept working.

    Petrus lost his faith.

Rhea lost her faith, only to lose everything in the end.

Patches was nothing more than a hyena, and died a dog's death.

    New Londo drowned.

The Kings faded into the abyss that they so coveted.

The Sealers vanished, unable to live with what they'd done.

The Ceaseless Discharge couldn't guard her grave.

The Witch's daughter wanted to protect her mother.

The Witch of Izalith lost herself trying to prevent the inevitable.

Gravelord Nito ignored the end but those in denial could not.

    Oolacile killed itself.

    Manus just wanted his pendant.

Dusk died trying to keep her kingdom alive.

Solaire's own sun snuffed him out.

Frampt tried to stop that which will always happen.

Kaathe tried to stop that which will always happen.

Gwyn faded like his flame, and took his place with the dragons.

    The Chosen Undead mattered not.

Their choice simply determined when the world died, not if.

Edit: So a lot of people were commenting stating I copied off of a kid on Gwyn's OST thingy, but originally it came from a reddit post, I think he took it down, but if he didn't please tell me!

Edit 2: Hoooly shit! This got 3rd on r/darksouls I thank you all for your kindness, and 262 upvotes, man, this is much much much more than I thought it was, like man! It was a repost but this simple repost got so many upvotes lets get this to 690 upvotes, shall we? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

As much as I also live DS3, I kinda dread going through most areas on a replay, but I feel the exact opposite on a DS1 replay.

    Posted: 11 Jun 2020 09:24 PM PDT

I just noticed this since starting a new character for global restart day after just starting a new one on DS3 maybe a week ago.

In DS3, the world is cool and creative and it's a great game too, but honestly I just have this "god I can't wait til I'm done with this part" feelng in so many areas(I still obviously enjoy it enough to play, but not the same way). With DS1, even the "bad" areas like Blighttown, even if I jokingly go "oh god, now I gotta do this", I'm still looking forward to it... unless we're talking about that goddamn overgrown tree. Fuck that tree whether I'm going up or down, either way.

Anyone else who loves both games feel the same way?

Anybody else loves Dark Souls but doesn't really follow the story closely?

    Posted: 12 Jun 2020 12:43 AM PDT

I'll be honest, I don't really try to learn a lot of the lore. I look up some minor things but mostly don't get what's actually going on. I just love it for the gameplay and the atmosphere. Anybody else that doesn't pay attention to the lore much? Just wondering. I'm thinking about learning the lore through youtube videos though. Are any YouTubers worth it?

I did the most challenging thing.

    Posted: 12 Jun 2020 12:29 AM PDT

I did the most challenging thing to do in this game. Was it a naked run? A no death run? A no hit run blindfolded using a guitar hero guitar? No.

I GOT THE BALDER SIDE SWORD.

In all seriousness though it took way too long and idk why they would make the drop rate for it so low. Maybe to make some people give up on getting the weapon so that only dedicated ppl who really really want it can get it and when they do they devastate the PVP scene? I'm not sure but I'm still debating whether or not it was worth it. I know that now someone will tell me that a better sword exists and that I wasted my time...

painted a hollow after playing ds1 and ds3 for the past month

    Posted: 11 Jun 2020 08:59 PM PDT

came up with the simple concept to have a drawing with hollow in front of the darksign about two nights ago. rushed to get a shit sketch of it down on a file and after a number of different sketches settled on a good looking one and got right to painting! not very much good at it but I'm still learning.

    cheers <3

    Finally beat O&S.

    Posted: 12 Jun 2020 01:07 AM PDT

It took me three hours, 25 attempts, multiple requests for Solaire's help and one soul-crushingly close call, but I defeated Ornstein and Smough. Finally I have the second half of the game available.

I have a lot of issues with the fight itself, primarily that their attacks don't have audio cues and they can attack you from where you can't see: off-camera, behind walls, behind each other... not to mention all the frame traps that both of them have in both phases that require absolutely perfect timing to avoid huge damage. Still, the one good thing about making the fight that difficult is that it feels so good to finally beat it, even with help from a summoned NPC.

I got the Soul of Ornstein out of it because I don't have any hammers, and Smough was easier to kill in the first phase when I still had to worry about off-camera attacks. By the time I started calling in Solaire, I'd managed to learn a couple of Super Ornstein's attacks and didn't feel like relearning the second phase.

I admit this post is pretty much meaningless, but I feel too good right now to not share the love. Hopefully the second half is as good as the first.

How should I invest my level ups in DS1R for the most enjoyable experience?

    Posted: 12 Jun 2020 04:33 AM PDT

After the PS5 Demon Souls reveal yesterday I decided that I was going to play these games so I popped the discs back into my ps4 and did the starting stuff so now I sit in firelink wondering what would be the most fun way to level up my bandit class character without just going for the "more health" and "more strong" stats.

Basically what stats can I invest in for a more enjoyable experience than just doing 2-3 stats exclusively? (of course those stats will still be my main ones)

    Demon souls and dark souls

    Posted: 12 Jun 2020 06:27 AM PDT

Hi guys, so I'm new to the dark souls franchise and am currently playing DS1 remastered on switch, but I heard about demon souls and its remastered for ps5 and was wondering which one of the 2 is better in the story telling aspect, as so far I'm loving how for dark souls the story telling only really unfolds if u rly dive into the world and get lost in it and read description and notice the enviroent youre in. Is demon souls also like this and which is better?

I defeated Lord Gwyn as one of his own

    Posted: 11 Jun 2020 05:15 PM PDT

In my first play-through, I decided to end by dawning the black knight armor, Halberd and shield to match, and sacrificing myself to link the flame for my Lord Gwyn. I have read quite a bit of the Lore and I believe that linking the flame and continuing the great age of fire that Gwyn fought so hard to get started. I'm proud to succeed my Lord of Cinder.

P.S. Holy fuck I love this game, NG+ is a blast

    Which dark souls to play?

    Posted: 12 Jun 2020 06:15 AM PDT

Hey guys, I'm feeling the itch to play a souls-like game. I tried Dark Souls 1 a while back but didn't like it due to how clunky it felt (I need fluid combat, I dropped the Witcher because of how clunky it was).

Is Dark Souls 2 or 3 going to appeal for me?

For reference I loved Sekiro, MHW, Code vein kinda
