    Community Screenshot Challenge

    Posted: 03 Jun 2020 10:15 AM PDT

    Hello everyone,

I've been thinking about this idea to start something engaging for the members of this community to do. I don't know if something like this has been done before, here or elsewhere, but a quick internet search did not yield anything identical. If the following game sounds interesting to you, and you have a few minutes to invest every now and then (in-game mostly, not here), and you find this to be a fun little challenge, let's keep it rolling!

So here's the game plan: You know how leaving messages in hard-to-reach places is a thing in Souls game, yes? We'll bring that aspect over to this subreddit by posting a screenshot of the player character standing in a hard to reach place and asking everyone else to replicate that and post their own screenshot with whatever fun or humorous little additions you care to make. By replication I mean only with reference to the location and maybe the camera angles, not the gear, the equips or the ongoing events in-game (although those could form the premise of some other challenge later). If you can't get a native screenshot, a photo of your monitor or TV with everything in place would suffice. The motivation is to see if you, the solver, can make it to the location in the screenshot or you, the poster, can come up with a location that can confound potential solvers.

To kick things off, I'm posting three locations in the Forest of varying difficulty below:

    1. Not hard at all
    2. A little frustrating
    3. Come back with more effigies

    Get cracking!

    Dex weapons

    Posted: 03 Jun 2020 09:11 AM PDT

So after beating the game and the dlc I decided to start a new journey with a new build. I previously did a pure strength build and finding strength weapons very early game was pretty easy. I'm now going to do a dex build but I have no idea what weapons are good early game. Anyone have any good recommendations?

    Am I being an asshole?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2020 08:37 AM PDT

Hey guys. Long time souls player dabbling in PvP for the first time. Messing around in Brotherhood of Blood and having a lot of fun even with my 10% win rate. I have one question:

Is it frowned about to wear stuff like the jesters robe to negate backstab damage? And if so...

    How severely frowned upon? Lol.

    Faith strength build

    Posted: 03 Jun 2020 10:59 AM PDT

What weapons are popular to use in a faith strength build? I like using unique weapons instead of the "straight sword buffed out the ass approach" and so far I've seen not many. Thanks for any input guys

Just upgraded my Mastadon Halberd to +10, what should I infuse it with?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2020 11:08 AM PDT

I'm playing a pyromancer build, but I don't know what fire scales off of, but lightning infusion would have the same damage as fire, and lightning scales off of just faith, so it might be cheaper to use lightning?

    Infinite invasions?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2020 02:05 PM PDT

Where would I be able to find a "non-cracked" red eye orb? I love invading and just started DS2, but the limit on invasions is kinda ruining it :(

Discussion: What is your favorite soundtrack of Dark Souls 2?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2020 01:44 PM PDT

I feel like no one really recognizes the quality of tracks for Dark Souls 2. There were some real bangers that I could NOT stop listening to once I finished my first playthrough recently. Yes DaS and DaS3 are good too, but man DaS2 definitely has IMO the best boss tracks in the series overall. Anyways, for me personally it comes down to either the Ancient Dragon, Majula, Sir Alonne, The Pursuer, and The Old Dragonslayer. Let me know what your favorite(s) are!

    Curved Nil Greatsword

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 07:30 PM PDT

So, found out infusions have great scaling on curved nil. S scaling for lightning infusion, ends up doing more lightning than physical damage.

    Advice for the platinum?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2020 10:55 AM PDT

Hey guys, I just platinumed dark souls remastered and dark souls 3 so it only seems right I should attempt this. Few questions: How many playthroughs does it take? Can it be done in one playthrough? Is there anything that can be done to speed up the process (ie in ds3 someone dropped me a load of souls so I could steamroll ng+, is there anything similar to this that makes it easier to run through ng+)? What are the potential road blocks along the way that might put me off getting all the trophies?

Ps I have finished the game before but on Xbox so I am not bothered about spoilers.

    Welp, There Goes My Playthrough

    Posted: 03 Jun 2020 10:26 AM PDT

A little background, I was gifted SoTFS from a friend and have been playing it non-stop. I have beaten the first Dark Souls many times on my old PS3, and I've beaten Dark Souls 3 many other times on the console I currently play on.

Let me be frank, I love all the Dark Souls games equally and for different reasons. This is in no way me being a butt and complaining about SoTFS. So with that out of the way, let me tell you something that made me a little miffed.

My character was a strength/dexterity build with a focus on weapon stances (minus the Pursuer's UG because it looks very pretty). I had farmed for HOURS to try and obtain the Forlorn set from notframpt in the Lost Bastille (It's my favorite set in the game besides the combos you can make with the Heide Knight Torso). So needless, to say, after over 60 hours of this character, I finally navigated my way through the shaded woods (I take my time don't judge me). There, I found my next milestone, weapon smith Ornifex and unlocked her door. My goal was to get her out and into Brightstone Cove Tseldora and obtain the lost Sinner's GS, BUT my carelessness got the better of me as I watched bug-eyed frogs discus-kick her in the beak and she died.

I love this game because it is so unforgiving in comparison to the other titles. My favorite moment while playing the first Dark Souls was spending hours stuck in the tomb of the giants because I didn't have the lord vessel to teleport and thus had to actually find my way through the darkness until I finally made it back to Firelink Shrine. Dark Souls 2 feels like that with every single level in it, sometimes to a fault (I'm looking at you Black Gulch). Regardless, the challenge is what keeps me coming back and it is so very rewarding sometimes. But somehow, losing Ornifex for good on this play through was a real kick in the crotch, and realistically locks all the better boss-weapons throughout the rest of the game (in my opinion, although I'd love to hear yours).

I just wanted to make a mini-rant. I still love this game and its community (who have helped me to no end, shout out to the Sunbro I summoned yesterday for no reason but for jolly cooperation, because I don't need a summon to kill the prowling magus lmao but I enjoy the company of others). Anyway, TLDR; weapon smith ornifex is dead for good and I'm sad but its okay.

May the flames guide your way, and don't you dare go hollow.
