TIL that there exists an upscaled texture pack for Dark Souls 2

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 03:20 AM PDT

I just learned about a texture pack for Scholar on PC which improves the textures via upscaling. Here is the link to the mod itself.

There are versions that change the original look of the game, but also one that is just upscaled vanilla textures (the Vanilla ESRGAN 1x or 2x file in Downloads).

The 1x version has 2K textures and the 2x version 4K textures. Texture resolution has nothing to do with the resolution you play at, so even at 1080p the difference in texture quality is obvious.

It uses IGP111 which can be found on the Dks3 Nexus.

Bashful Ray is the best NPC Summon

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 12:44 PM PDT

Have you ever wondered what the best ds2 summon is? It's simple when you think about it. Bashful Ray. What does everyone want in an NPC summon? RELIABILITY, high health, good stamina, jack of all trades, deals damage but also tanks good damage and a real distraction for the enemies and bosses dark souls 2 has to offer. This guy has it all. He is agile and has high health making him a perfect summon for a long fight. He is reliable because you can summon him the most times out of any NPC and helps with a total of 9 bosses the most out of the soul series. He runs fast, has good stamina and if you run he follows instead of fighting every single enemy. He has your back 24/7 when you have him summoned of course and he doesn't have a storyline so you can't fuck up the rest of his summon signs if he dies and there's not such a stress to treat him like a VIP and a maximum priority. I recently did a pacifist run and credit to 2 people with help on the run: ymfah for giving me useful and entertaining advice and our boi bashful Ray. And did I forget to mention: HE HAS PYROMANCIES!!!!

    Ummmm I broke the game...

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 06:12 PM PDT

So I was going through the game as normal and wanted to fight Aldia at the end as I haven't yet. But here's were everything went wrong. I killed Vendrick with all but one giant soul cuz fuck fighting ancient dragon and then went to fight Nashandra. Because I'm doing Benhart of Jugo's questline I had already fought throne duo before to ensure he gets to Nashrandra. So I just beat Nashrandra then and nothing is happening, no proceed the throne no Aldia just nothing. Bradley of the Old Guard is just sitting there standing still doing nothing. I don't know what's happening pls help. TL;DR I beat Nashrandra and nothing is happening no Aldia no proceeding the throne, nothing

EDIT: jumped Into the pit as the feather and such wouldn't work. Went back in and nothing happened so I did it again. I ended up using a bonfire astectic so I could fight everyone again, IT WORKED. And holy moly Aldia in NG+ has one girthy health bar

    I find DS2 really hard

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 06:40 AM PDT

I went from DS1 to DS3 back to DS2 (Sotfs). I have beaten DS1 and DS3 dozens of times and have a level 200+ character on DS3. But for DS2 I am still stuck right near the start (Lost Bastille). I have died to the sentinels over 20 times (I only died to Nameless in DS3 around 10 times). This game seems really slow compared to the others and I'm more of a fast-paced RB spammer. Also rolling is extremely hard on this game, I'm getting hit from almost every attack I try to dodge which I wouldn't in the other games. Any tips?

    I broke the game?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 01:02 PM PDT

I'm playing the vanilla game on Xbox 360, and I'm trying to get into one of the giants memories and every time it loads it sends me back to the Cardinal tower bonfire.

I'm so confused why I just want to meet with Jugo to get his equipment but it won't let me now.

Did I really just break the game?

Playing through again on xbox one seeing a decent amount of players is PvP still active at all?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 09:28 AM PDT

I would like to do the PvP covenants but I am worried I will make a build and PvP will be dead. Is it any better on PC? I do have a gaming PC and I could get the game there.

    Frigid outskirts

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 05:20 AM PDT

The worst area in any souls game ever? Not even in terms of diffficulty but there's almost no fighting, you spend the entire time blindly running between buildings and all u get at the end is a shitty reskin boss

My faith in PVP restored! Love this community! Thank you mystery invader!

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 01:03 PM PDT

I simply wanted to get a shout out there for all the nice and friendly invaders! You have restored my humanity! :) After all the backstabbing and trolling in DS3 I am not amused when invaded while playing through yet unknown areas. So yesterday I was exploring Dragon Aerie and the Shrine and got an invader, my first reaction was ''oh sh**, gruesome death ahead'' Invader was acting friendly and that got me even more suspicious! lol Thank you DS3! I am not a fan of PVP since I am not into killing fellow sunbros. The guy kept showing me around and I just went with it awaiting a trap somewhere in the middle but to my surprise he actually waited while I fought enemies and cheered for every defeated foe till we were up to the shrine and only when I had cleared the area he started to duel me! Good honorable man I wish I would remember your username! He bested me but we had such a nice fight! He had a fun dex build with two of those claws on his hands, reminded me of Bloodborne build. Only after I re explored the area I found he left me a human effigy! Seriously I was so touched! Later he happened to invade me again near the Throne of Want and let me tell you I enjoyed it and got another effigy which I managed to actually show appreciation for this time! Good player thank you for the fun if you happen to be around here! <3 \[T]/

Long time PS4 player switching to XB1 seeking help

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 12:56 PM PDT

Hey guys, big fan of the series and have played the hell out of all games included in it, but my old PS4 crapped out and I lost all of my save data :/ Have an XB1 now and I really dread the thought of starting completely fresh and I'm asking the community if anyone would be so kind as to drop a few goodies for a new Strength/Sorcery build I'm going to run. I have a pretty stacked DS1 and DS3 file, so I am willing to reciprocate! Message me if interested, and thank you in advance!

I’m getting darksouls 2 soon and I’ve never play darksouls 2 before and I don’t know what class I want?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 12:10 PM PDT

I want to be a cleric because I want to make him use magic and still have some good stats. Or I want to be knight because I play a knight in darksouls and they have a lot of vit and good armour and weapons at first.

    Farming Sunlight Medals on NG?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 11:38 AM PDT

Hey, do I have to go to NG+ to get them to drop frequently? Because it seemed very low despite Symbol of Avarice, Prisoners Tatters and Gold Serpent Ring.

What are your experienced? Did you get 30 Medals on NG under 10 hours?:P

    Preferred Great Souls weapons

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 09:37 AM PDT

I've got 2 profiles, a hexer with a Dex build and a full Str/HP/Vit build. For the former, I haven't really found any old souls weapons useful outside of the Twinblade one because the attack animations are freaking sweet. The latter, my new love of the game is the Old Iron King Hammer.

What are your preferences, Reddit? Are there some you think may be OP or some that are newb traps? Help a newb out lol

    Trouble with Bell Keepers

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 09:33 AM PDT

I've been achievement hunting for a while now and I'm only one sorcery away from having them all but the sorcery is hidden weapon. Bell Keeper Covenant is really slow because sometimes it takes hours for a single invasion even with the ring for invading. I have to kill 35 grey invader to get hidden weapon but it's taking forever does anyone know a faster way to get those kills?

I fucked up and need help

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 09:25 AM PDT

As i was booting up Dark Souls 2 i accidentally did what all gamers fear. I deleted my SL156 save file that had not beat the game yet. I was at Blueberry (Smelter demon) and now i have to start over. I am determined but i would really appreciate some tips in getting through the game fast and effectively. Basically im asking for skips and glitches that can help me get trough the game fast. It can be dupe glitches or speedrun tricks as long as they are possible on PS4. Thanks in advance

What is the timeline of the kings?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 08:34 AM PDT

I had this thought for a while and I want to ask for what are your thoughts.

The Ivory, Sunken, Iron kings and Vendrick are the kings of these lands and we know that Vendrick is the one who lasted longer because his name is still remembered.

The Iron king is a great one when he fused with gwyn soul and Vendrick defeated the great ones. So he had to come later than Vendrick but fell before him, also the undead curse affected them both.

The Sunken king was attacked by the drakeblood knights who have a connection with drangleic and also has connections with Velstadt.

The Ivory king has golems that are like those of Vendrick.

That is what I have right now.

So what do you think, do they ruled on different times or they all ruled at the same time but on different places?

Help with power stance spear build

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 08:29 AM PDT

So I wanted to replay this game for the second time (PVE only) and wanted to do a build with 2 spears, but I have no idea how to build, which spears I should use or their infusion. I don't like using magic, so no spells would be nice.

Why do some enemies stop respawning

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 08:02 AM PDT

I've noticed some random enemies will respawn many times but after a while they just never show up again, and I was wondering if it was a weird game mechanic or a bug or something, anyone know what's going on?

    Good 100% physical shield?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 07:58 AM PDT

Second playthrough attempt, had to abandon first midway because of a save/computer issue. That playthrough, I go to the Black Gulch.

I'm playing as a Knight again, very tank-y sword and board build. My first time through, I felt like I was using a great 100% physical shield that was decent on most other stats. Now, the only one I have has really crummy defense stats for everything but physical, so I'm using a 95% instead. I think I might have missed an option or two, but I don't know what and where.

I know it's a minor issue, but any recommendations on what 100% physicals to look for that I might have missed before?

About to start farming the ancient dragon

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 04:03 AM PDT

Stupidity consumed my souls of giants before getting Vendrick's blessing so here we go.

Lightning Ricard's Rapier+10, Lightning Clutch Ring, Sunlight Blade, Repair Powder.

Dispelling Ring +1, Flame Quartz Ring +3, Chaos set and Pharros Mask. It would take more than 3 fire shots to kill me.

    Denial, and Twilight Herb.

    He's gonna be mad lol.

Im not sure how to feel...

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 06:45 AM PDT

Just to preface this, Ive played through DS1 and 3 multiple times - beaten every boss. I platinumed, SL1'd and deathlessed DS1. I like to think Im pretty proficient at these games. Being stuck in quarantine with a spare 30 quid, I decided to try my hand at DS2

I bought and began playing dark souls 2 earlier today - Ive just beaten the lost giant (he hit me a total of twice) and Ive pretty much only gone theough forest of giants. The first things I did were kill the big ogre-thing at the start with the old ladies and get the stone ring - wasnt too hard but I started to feel like the hitboxes/I frames were a little off. I then went to Majula and fought of all the poisony bois by the guy with the MLGS. They werent too bad, I started trying to parry them and it went fairly well. (Although I dont like having to wait for them to fall over before I can riposte). Since finding it in the forest of dead large people, Ive been using the fire longsword which seems pretty good. I died to this large man from an eagle and then when I returned he dissapeared. Thats my story so far.

Up to this point... the game feels nowhere near as robust as DS1 or even DS3 in a combat sense - everything feels floaty and sometimes Ill roll through something, it wont seem to register as a hit bit then Ill still take the damage. The enemy layouts feel just kinda... tossed in there - I felt this a little with DS3 but to a significantly lesser extent (plus the faster pace of ds3 I think made it feel less dumb). It feels like Im constantly being swarmed and have to spend most of my time running away and then just poking an enemy and so and and so forth. In DS1 however, I felt like I could get the layout of a set of enemies, decide how I wanted to tackle it and then push through. I think it may be to do with enemies having greater aggro range?

Anyway, I just wanted to see if other players felt similarly/how other people felt on there first playthrough.
