Dark Souls helps my depression Posted: 03 Jun 2020 06:14 PM PDT All this shit going on lately with everything is havoc on my mental health. On my best days even it's just an overwhelming sense of unease and dread. Playing Dark Souls at least helps me suspend those feelings for a time. On my second playthrough because I got stuck in Anor Londo Ruins outside Ornstein and Smaugh with an unkindled bonfire. Second playthrough is going significantly better now that I know what I'm doing. Currently in Blighttown. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 03 Jun 2020 11:59 PM PDT Did my first playthrough on Dark Souls blind and it's been awesome ! The level design is fantastic and the story becomes great and greater because game doesn't tell you but you have to find it. Man it's been helluva ride. [link] [comments] |
Finally beat the game for the first time! Posted: 03 Jun 2020 02:02 PM PDT I must say this is one of the best games I've ever played. No other games challenged me to the degree Dark Souls does. The only issue I had was the final boss fight. Gwyn was so easy... I had so much more trouble with Manus and Kalameet lol Anyways, here I come NG+ ! [link] [comments] |
Dark souls vs bloodborne advice needed Posted: 04 Jun 2020 02:52 AM PDT I have depression and borderline personality disorder. I have trouble coming to my own conclusions and making decisions. I love dark souls 1/remastered. I've completed it before and I understand and click with its gameplay. I want to like bloodborne but I find it impossible to play. It's too fast. I cant get out of yarnham. So my question is... is it socially acceptable to like and prefer playing dark souls instead of bloodborne because its slower paced and allows you to think more, or is that not acceptable, and I cant call myself a soulsborne gamer if I cant play bloodborne? I have trouble with bloodborne, deciding whether I iust suck at it or if I just dont like it. Tbh none of the games in the series except dark souls 1 managed to get me hooked. I tried playing ds1 for a month, quitting, coming back 2 years later and became one of my favourite games ever. I've tried the same multiple times with bloodborne. I've tried and tried countless times to play it and I just cant. I still cant decide or figure out if it's just a game so hard it's out of my league of skills and reflexes to actually play it, or if I just dont actually like it and that's why it's not working for me. Posted: 03 Jun 2020 05:34 PM PDT I have finally beat this game and it was 100% worth it. Thanks for the experience From software. [link] [comments] |

Question about early game "paths" to take for people who play blind. Posted: 04 Jun 2020 02:20 AM PDT Mix of anecdotes from a stream I watched today, but just wondering peoples' experience with early game when they played this game absolutely blind with no spoilers. Ok so I've personally played the shit out of this game, have watched tons of speedruns and no-hit runs. This question pertains more to when I'm watching people play blind runs. So when you first get to Firelink, you can access New Londo, Catacombs or Undead Burg (the intended route). I've seen SO MANY people think that the "bell below" is either New Londo, or Catacombs. They want a spoiler-free experience, but it's really clear when they're getting frustrated after making it past a few skeletons only to find reassembling ones. What I usually do as a viewer, is I never give hints/spoilers unless asked, but I'll generally just tell them to maybe check Firelink again and talk to the people again (in case they only got a bit of the dialogue). So today, I was watching someone else play. He was super amped, because he wrecked the Taurus Demon, started getting some good tempo going. But for whatever reason, when he found the Basement key, he got a bit tunnel vision, went that route before even going to Andre. He ended up killing Capra Demon, Gaping Dragon, Quelaag, Ceaseless Discharge (all without any hints whatsoever) and going ALL THE WAY to the orange fog gate at the bottom of the demon ruins. The salt was pretty apparent when he went "ok now seriously what the fuck am I supposed to do" and someone in chat threw a few emotes down and said "time to head all the way back now, you're not supposed to be here". This same thing happened to me when I first played this game, and I remember my weapon breaking when I had activated the Blighttown lowest bonfire, and not knowing at all about the waterwheel exit. I wasn't streaming or anything, so you bet your ass I quickly googled a few things just to keep the game rolling. I'm just wondering, when people genuinely played this game completely blind, how absolutely fucked up was it? I totally understood where the guy was coming from when he said "ya I get it, I have to ring two bells... but I went up the Aqueducts and it led me back down below" it was just one of those moments where he had three ways to go and he picked the most difficult, least obvious route lol. I feel like for the people who end up in Blighttown before killing the Gargoyles, they don't get the Sens Fortress cut scene, and have nothing reminding them to head back and not get completely sidetracked in the demon ruins without any quick way of getting back. Again, yes, it's very fast getting back via New Londo from Blighttown when you know the path... but the dude was just like "ok... it took me hours to get down here, how the fuck do I just get back up". I think he still thought everything led back to the Depths, and he'd have to run back through Undead Burg and everything. I'm having a good time watching the stream, and it kind of pained me to see him agitated about backtracking and having nothing indicating he shouldn't have gone that far :P [link] [comments] |
Accidentally beating Ornstein and Smough Posted: 04 Jun 2020 04:26 AM PDT It's my first time playing through Dark Souls (beat Bloodborne) and my girlfriend was really enjoying watching. I knew O&S were coming up and told her all about their notoriety. "Don't beat them without me," she said. So I got through Anor Londo, (countering the Silver Knights is really satisfying) and spent a bit of time grinding to improve my weapons with the Giant - making Quelaag's Fury Sword. I then thought to have a go at O&S to see what the fuss was about. They kicked my ass straight away. "Not a problem," I thought. "I was expecting that. I'll wait for the GF to get back from work and summon Solaire for help." So I had another go at them for practise and another and another, learn the movesets etc. Nearly took Smough out, then another go and got to Mega Ornstein who one shotted me. "Well, I've got to see more of his moves," I thought, so I know what's coming. I went charging in again, ran around the arena like a headless chicken, taking potshots at Smough as I went, took him down and got to Mega Ornstein again. He missed skewering me like a pig by milimeteres and I rolled under him and swang like a lunatic, only rolling back when I saw him do the butt drop. It wasn't pretty, I couldn't even see what I was hitting, but it was working... Suddenly, he was down to under a quarter of his health and I knew that I was going to win (as much as you can in SoulsBorne that is). The GF would be so pissed with me if I beat them, so I genuinely considered letting myself die. "You've got one of the most infamous bosses in video game history down to his last morsel of health and you're going to sacrifice yourself? What the hell is wrong with you? This could take all night to get there again!" I'll deal with the gf consequences later, totally worth it though... [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Jun 2020 04:24 AM PDT Hi, so I'm gonna have to fight the gaping dragon, and I am wondering what will happen if Solaire dies during the fight, will I not be able to spawn him again, or not? [link] [comments] |

My foray into the darkness for the first time Posted: 04 Jun 2020 01:47 AM PDT I have been waiting to get into the Souls series for years now, but due to a variety of reasons, never could until now. Ever since the first game came out, I was watching enviously hoping I can play it one day. I have been sating my thirst with videos in YouTube and I almost went hollow waiting for when I can finally play. So the situation became better a few months back and I was finally ready to buy the series. But then, I got a weird urge to enter with a bang. I wanted to get the Dark Souls Trilogy rather than the seperate versions. So another few months of slow-hollowing started. This time, self-imposed. Now today I finally found it on Amazon and it was an awesome deal too. I'm gonna get into Dark Souls Remastered first, then platinum it before moving on to the next one. Incredibly hyped about this and can't wait till it gets delivered. End goal is to plat all soulsborne games. Incredibly lofty goal but one I have been aiming for literally years. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Jun 2020 02:35 PM PDT Hey, I was trying to do an SL1 run and messed up a jump in the Great Hollow. I am now stuck between two branches. Quitout puts me back there; I cannot use items or move. After loading I can turn around and click light attack, which triggers a plunging animation but locks me in place without the ability to turn. Does anyone know if I can get out of this position or is the savefile lost? [link] [comments] |
Dark Souls level design is revolutionary Posted: 03 Jun 2020 08:53 AM PDT Last night I ventured off into the catacombs and tomb of the giants without realizing I needed a key item to pass the golden fog gate. I thought I was trapped and stuck down there. Can barely see a thing and thin ledges everywhere. No matter how much I backtracked, I couldn't find my way out. I always thought once you drop down to the path of the catacombs from firelink shrine, your fate is sealed. I was so nervous and scared that I might have to restart a new journey. But what I thought was a dead end wall, was a secret ladder hidden and I was home free. This is my first time actually sitting down and playing the first dark souls (as I was introduced to the series by trading in games at GameStop and got dark souls 3 without having to pay a cent) I'm venturing all around and seeing how connected the world is. Going to darkoot basing from the burg and dark root garden from the parish and right above the garden is another area. And then finding short cuts and secret paths that lead you back to firelink. DS3 will always have a place in my heart as one of my favorite games, but the way it is laid out felt like it was missing something. I have played and replayed DS3 many times, I wanted something new but felt too discouraged to finish 1 and 2 (I also have DS2 but never finished it) something in me wanted to see it through and now I have found a new appreciation for the series. TL;DR I love this series [link] [comments] |
Which single enemy have you killed the most in Dark Souls? Posted: 03 Jun 2020 10:38 PM PDT I sunbro a lot with my base at the Altar of Sunlight Bonfire and that poor hollow soldier at the top of those stairs... Genuinely felt sorry for him this morning as I rammed my spear up his arse for the billionth time. How about you fine folks? Which of Lordran's finest have you clubbed mercilessly about the vitals most often on your travels? [link] [comments] |
Ornstein and Smough aren’t that hard (unless you’re on NG+) Posted: 04 Jun 2020 01:47 AM PDT When i first played dark souls, i was really hyped up for the ornstein and smough fight, since many people on the internet said it was extremely difficult and that it was near impossible. I decided to go into the fight, kinda scared but i have prepared for this. My dad recommended i use the quelaag furysword to beat them, and i decided to take his advice (since he's an epic gamer that has beaten all the souls games except for 3). I upgraded the sword to +5, got my grass crest shield (objectively the best shield in the game) and got into the fog gate. It took me 4 attempts to kill them, and it wasn't as hard as it was hyped up to be. I managed to beat them by just running around in circles around the pillars and whenever ornstein would lunge at me i would just whack him with the sword twice and then back away. Smough was a threat, but i could just avoid him. Going solo against smough was even easier. Yes the boss does do a lot of damage, and yes, it's a challenge but i honestly don't think it's as challenging as many people say. What do you think? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Jun 2020 08:25 PM PDT Ive started reolaying DS1 recently on my old 360 that was gathering dust in a closet, and when looking at the weapon ascensions avaiable at the giant smith ib Anor Londo, i saw that the Manus Catalyst was an option... Does this mean I have the DLC? I certainly don't remember buying it, but it was also years ago that i got my copy, so who knows [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Jun 2020 01:17 AM PDT So I got the shortcut between demon ruins and lost izalith, I have not killed fire sage demon or centipede demon. I killed all the bugs, got the sunlight maggot and made sure only 8/9 had respawned. I have just killed the bed of chaos but Solaire is not in the shortcut hallway. Does this mean he won't appear for Gwyn until I go back and do the firesage and centipede or can I just carry on with the other Lord souls as I can't get past firesage at all. [link] [comments] |
I just found my first vagrant ever since ps3!! Posted: 03 Jun 2020 05:32 PM PDT I couldnt believe it. Kind of a letdown as I only netted 1 humanity from it but hey Im happy. Never seen one while playing before. I guess it makes sense to find one here if someone died while farming humanity. Also shoutout to dude named Hoarder(pretty sure that was you) in Oolicile! Had fun dueling you back to back for two hours outside of township. [link] [comments] |
Is a claymore+10 good enough to beat the Four Kings without more than 1 spawning in. Posted: 04 Jun 2020 01:03 AM PDT Im in New Londo ruins and know that the 4 kings is a dps race,so I was wondering if the 200 damage plus about 98 extra is adequate for a cheese fight. [link] [comments] |
Why do people gank!? How can that be fun. Posted: 03 Jun 2020 10:31 PM PDT First time playing a dark souls game to the end and i just started to get into pvp in the DLC township area, and half the time I get slowness casted on me and then 4 dudes just wail on me till I die. It's not like they're doing anything, they literally are just sitting there waiting! No 1v1 action, just me getting dumped on. What's the point? I just wanna understand why people do that. Posted: 03 Jun 2020 05:51 PM PDT The 2D side scrollers are my main focus right now. I picked up Hollow Knight and looking to also snag a copy of Salt and Sanctuary. Have you guys tried SandS? Is it worth the 20 bucks? (Feeling wise and amount of content are my two main factors) thanks for any advice/input! [link] [comments] |
