Quarantine has given me some time to focus on this challenge, and I finally got it.Here's a YouTube playlist of the individual boss kills if you want to check them out.

I also have some fun data on how many attempts each boss took:(number of deaths / fails / intentional resets combined)
0- Asylum, Taurus, Gaping, Quelaag, Golem, Stray, Pinwheel, Nito, BoC, Seath, Priscilla, Gwyndolin, Guardian
    1- Butterfly, Centipede
    2- Gargoyles
    4- Firesage
    15- Sif
    22- Gwyn, Ceaseless
    30- Capra
    61- Kalameet
    69- Artorias
    85- Manus
117- O&S (both versions of the fight combined)
    310- Four Kings lol

    EDIT 1
-Bed of Chaos was cheesed with Tokhi Bombs, so that first try is unfortunately not as impressive as it might look.

-The dogs in the Capra Demon fight aren't aggroing becuase I'm wearing the Ring of Fog.

-The main reason for the 310 fails on Four Kings is the horizontal swing. I kept resetting until I got a fight without any, but as u/Evoryn has pointed out, it's possible to strafe that attack.

EDIT 2I don't want to make this sound like I was the first one to do it, so I want to shoutout some people that had completed similar (or even harder!) challenges.

Am I the only one who thinks DS1 is miles ahead of DS3?

    Posted: 06 May 2020 08:03 PM PDT

Firstly I'm really not trying to stir the pot, just want to see if anyone else out there who feels this way.

I know the gameplay in DS3 is better but the world feels so... artificial? Video gamey? Stitched together? DS1 feels like a real place. Like I'm actually getting to exist in some other world. The little stuff brings it together. The textures seem actually worn down and tangiable. Everything is in a place for a reason.

DS3 feels so soulless in comparison. I don't feel like I'm existing in another place. I feel like I'm just going through video gamey levels that don't come together to form anything coherent.

BTW I really want to like it more and there is a ton to like.. but I always feel this way overwhelmingly when I get about 3 quarters of the way through the game. I feel deflated and like froms typical artistic magic is lacking.

Edit: just as an example (and this might sound weird) but the stonework towards the end of the undead parish.. it seems like someone actually built it and put it together. Like you could almost reach out and touch it. It has a sense of place and history and spirit. DS3 totally and utterly lacks that sensation for me.

    I did it!

    Posted: 06 May 2020 11:30 PM PDT

I finally finished my first ever playthrough of this game and wow. Jumping from DS3 to DSR is such a big difference. No teleportation on bonfires, having to stay still to take a estus, can't even let your guard down around some apparently weak hollows with broken swords. This game made me a better player, or so I feel. Fights like Ornstein/Smough and Four Kings developed awareness of my surroundings and my capacity to strategize in the middle of the battle, Sif made me work on my dodge and attack timing. There were times when I almost gave up and started hating the game, but now I know it is one of the best games I have ever played since I remember me as a gamer. Now, onto DS2

    OMG Parrying.

    Posted: 06 May 2020 11:33 AM PDT

I've never been good at parrying in any game. I gave it a go when I first started DS and just decided no. I could not get the timing right and always ended up dead or near to it. I'm in Anor Londo now. Those stupid Silver Knights were making my life miserable (more than DS normal). I finally spent 5 mins practicing parrying and riposte on the knight near the stairs by the bonfire. Practice till I killed him, bonfire, repeat. Now I can kill them with 2 hits and minimal damage. I can't believe how easy it is now. I can't stop thinking about it. Very little work is getting done now as I keep thinking about playing after work. The emotions this game makes me feel is crazy.

Edit: I just upgraded my weapon and now can I'll them with one riposte hit. I'm so happy. Now I just need to make it past Lautrec and his minions.

    Can’t fight the Taurus Demon

    Posted: 06 May 2020 11:49 PM PDT

It's not that I can't beat him, I literally can't touch him. Every time I walk up to him and swing my sword the game kicks me to the title screen and freezes. I'm able to fight everything leading up to him fine. I've tried verifying the game files, letting the game run on admin mode and seeing if it was a weird network error by turning on offline mode. I've not tried restarting as I don't want to and I've not tried reinstalling the game.

I finished my first blind playthrough

    Posted: 07 May 2020 01:22 AM PDT

I cannot comprehend why my younger self dropped this at the start, I absolutely love this game and the community.

Well, I just wanted to share my experience with you before I go back for NG+

So after a long journey where I was lucky enough to get the Black Knight Sword on the first BK I encountered I defeated the Taurus Demon easily (1HKO), then everything went smoothly.

I killed Pinwheel, before I got cocky and ended up lost for 2 days in the Tomb of Giants.

I asked in this subreddit for help and thanks to all of you I was finally able to continue my journey.

It was hard at the start to kill Quelaag, but I managed first try, then accidentally killed Ceaseless Discharge in one hit.

After that I went to fight Ornstein & Smough (I hate the archers in Anor Londo), with help from best bro Solaire, whom I've really loved during this game.

Along the way I became a little bit tired, and was about to leave it for some time, until I found Solaire with the sunlight maggot, and the journey became personal when they took away sun bro from my side.

So basically I went after the lords for revenge, I couldn't accept the fact that sun bro was dead.

The first one to fall was Seath, who cursed me the first try and fell easily the second try.

The second to fall was Nito, who couldn't even touch me.

The third one I struggled the most with, Bed of Chaos who fell in the most underwhelming way after making my life impossible.

Finally I fell the Four Kings, who I killed with the shame of the fact I had to kill Sif to reach them.

And then I accidentally found Capra Demon, whom I was Overpowered to confront, easiest fight I had in the game.

I then placed the souls of the Lords in the Lordvessel and went to confront Gwyn.

Who proceeded to kick my ass for half a day.

I finally beat him with spells and a blow for blow final swordfight, I couldn't believe I won.

Finally, I linked the fire and finished my first playthrough.

Now, I'm going to start a NG+ focusing on the dlc, finding secrets and to fight the bosses I missed.

    Wish me luck!

    Undead Parish bonfire is great

    Posted: 06 May 2020 01:49 PM PDT

Of all the locations in the game, the bonfire area above Andre is one of the few where I actually feel safe. There's a nice cosy feeling as you hear the continuous clank clank of Andre downstairs.

Where are you favourite places to 'rest' in the game?

[DS:R] I did it or Quarantine Souls (story)

    Posted: 06 May 2020 09:14 AM PDT

    tl;dr I did it

    Hello,

I wanted to share my Dark Souls story (minor spoilers ahead).

A year ago I saw a friend, who's really into the Souls series, playing Dark Souls. We talked for a bit on that topic. I joked about how I would beat the game if he gifted me the game.

    And he actually did.

All I knew about Dark Souls at the time was that you die a lot and that you praise the sun.

Now, I don't really remember the start, but I remember that playing Dark Souls for the first time was like learning how to ride a bike. You figure out the controls, but your brain isn't wired to act quickly enough.

Everything is hard at the beginning. Fighting those first zombies, trying not to get hit, trying to parry and failing. Moving carefully, getting used what's around you, being scared of an imminent attack around the corner.

Atleast I wasn't alone - my friend was my guide.

You get to Firelink Shrine and after a while you realise it's a place that you don't want to leave. It's safe there. I tried going down to the skeletons and got my ass kicked. It was probably the wrong time for that. So you venture to Undead Burg. Getting to the bonfire is a real challenge. You try to kill everything you see, because hey, they're enemies, that's what you should do. Moving up the stairs you see a big red dragon land and you think "I'm screwed", but it flies away. Then you finally reach it - the safe haven that is the bonfire. You can finally rest.

After resting you notice that the enemies respawned. Then you realise - this is how it works.

Taurus Demon wasn't very hard, but it took me quite a few tries to kill him. At first you just try to block/roll away from the attacks, but you die, over and over. The harder part was getting to him, killing those zombies again and again, getting some runs perfectly, others - disastrously.

See, at this point in the game, it doesn't click that you should figure out how the enemy attacks and act accordingly.

Skip to Undead Parish. The blacksmith is a familiar friend at this point. The sound of him hammering away soothes you, because again - you know it's safe.

And here we come to the first real challenge - the Gargoyles.

I can honestly say that I have tried atleast 30, if not 40 or 50, times to kill them, but with no luck. The game got to me and I quit. I went hollow.

Fast forward a year later, to last month.

For some reason I booted up the game again. I don't know why, but it was calling to me.

I load up, get familiar with it and go for the Gargoyles... again...

And I die, and I die, and I die.

See, I knew what I had to do: focus one at a time, circle him, cut off his tail, watch out for the second one breathing fire and that's it. But I had two problems - my damage was low and I was slow.

I asked my friend for advice and that's when I found out about fast/medium/slow or fat rolls. So I switched my gear around and went for it again.

On April 14, 2020, I rang the Bell of Awakening at Undead Church.

I had finally done it. The first plateau reached. The feeling was unreal.

What came next was a journey into Lower Undead Burg for the Capra Demon, and then into the Depths. I think I got cursed the for the first time.

Four days later I beat Quelaag and rang the Bell of Awakening in Quelaag's Domain.

Fast forward to Anor Londo. Seeing that place for the first time was... something else. It gave off a very evil aura. It wasn't Dark Souls to me... it was something different.

At this point in the game I was still doing shitty damage and that didn't settle with me. So I started doing something that led me into a rabbit hole.

    I started researching.

You don't know just HOW MUCH the game does not tell you (God bless the internet and the people who collect and share info). My browser history shows atleast a couple of hundred entries for this game (one of them was "i am scared to play dark souls", lmao).

Humanity, upgrade guide, how to use magic, weapon attack speeds (slow and fast), different stat scaling percentages, weapon attack rating calculations.

Not to mention other things that you could never figure out yourself (like how to get to Painted World of Ariamis or that NPCs can invade you (correct me if I'm wrong)). When Maneater Mildred invaded me and I fucked her up, I thought that I just killed another player and took his loot, lol.

So, as a result after this I farmed up a Man-serpent Greatsword and upgraded it to +10, which, according to calculations, made it's attack power 357 (due to my stats). This weapon is not too slow and hits pretty hard. Perfect.

Fast forward to the next plateau, Ornstein and Smough. I had heard about how this is the culmination of Dark Souls difficulty. If you beat this, then everything else is a breeze.

So, it took me a couple of days, but I did it. I beat them.

At one point a Black Knight Greataxe dropped, which I upgraded to +5 and have been rocking ever since.

On April 29, 2020, I beat Dark Souls by beating Gwyn and linking the fire. I actually did it.

The next day I broke down. I was really invested in this game, addicted, even. That and coupled with two months of sleep/work/game/repeat (12-15 hours of screen time/day) really takes its toll on the nerves.

So, after beating the game I went on to get all of the achievements. Why? I don't know, like I said, I was really invested.

I beat the game once more. Now I'm in NG+2. I beat Ornstein and Smough in an hour from starting the game again. My SL is 140+.

The gameplay feel really changes after you've beaten it and are just going for the achievements. You're not that immersed. You just need to go to point A, B, get this and that, do that. So that's what you do.

I did push myself at times. I broke my chair's armrest, so that was one moment when I knew I had to quit for the day, or a few, even. I did take breaks. My keyboard suffered a bit, too. I'm not generally an angry person, maybe I have some underlying issues, but I think it's just a little bit of everything. So that's my reality. Sometimes I don't think I've enjoyed beating a boss, because it took a lot of tries and you're just so, so exhausted. Tho a game hasn't made me feel like that in a long, long time.

Sometimes I wondered where the other characters went from Firelink Shrine. My friend told me, and I quote, "you can't expect them to sit around in shitty places all day, can you". That made me laugh quite a bit.

And then I started watching vaatividya videos, because hooray, I finally could, without spoiling myself.

I tried to save Solaire and I failed. Siegmeyer didn't have to kill all those squidwards, because I did it for him. He gave me a ring. I just hope that I didn't crush his spirit too much...

Once I went back to Firelink Shrine and saw that the flame was out. Apparently fire lady got stolen. So I went to get her back. I kicked shiny boy's shiny metal ass and brought back the fire lady. Once again she warmed us with her fiery embrace.

Next time I kicked shiny boy off the ledge. Your armor didn't help against that, did it?

    Patches can suck it.

The Abyss was probably the most disorienting thing I've experienced, but the location that brought me that most awe has to be Ash Lake. Once you see it you can hardly comprehend the size of the Dark Souls world. This is what's hidden below us?

At times this game made me laugh so hard. Ledges in this game are OP. Enemies charge you and fall off. Not to mention kicking some of them off. The ragdoll system is also funny. You can kill a 200+ kg, 3 meter dude and just drag his body around with ease.

I lost a lot of souls, at times duo to because I was being too brave. I'd estimate about a million souls lost in total.

I farmed the gladiator slimes for a few hours (Painted World of Artemis). I did the math and a run from the bonfire and back takes around a minute and you get 6-7k souls. That's a lot of souls. I level up quite a bit there.

The hardest fight was probably Black Dragon Kalameet (funny, considering that it's optional). The hardest fight in NG+ was the Four Kings.

The level design is amazing, because there are so many times when you go through a place and loop back to where you were. It's all connected really well.

After beating the game a few times you think you're kind of good. And you are, but only kind of.

I still screw up trying to run through trash mobs, I get hit and die. Other times I beat/cheese bosses from the first time.

The game is really inconsistent at times. You can try to run through a mob the same way 100 times and some of those times everything will end differently. Sometimes the mob attacks you with a charged attack, sometimes he does a jumping attack. It's annoying in a way.

The game also has it's fair share of issues, mainly the camera. I can't tell how many times I've died duo to camera position changes while locking on/off on an enemy.

The action queue really put me off sometimes. I spam attack, because... I'm used to it like that? But no, in this game it's different, it queues several attacks and then you get screwed, because you didn't want to attack few times, you wanted to attack only once and then roll away into the sunset.

The fight with Gwyn was emotional. Going through the fog door and hearing that music was something else... here you come after a long journey to fight the last lord keeping the fire alive, only to re-lit it and do it all over again. And for what?

    I cried during the credits.

What I learned from all of this is to know when to take a damn break. Because there's a fine line between being immersed and playing just to play. Pushing yourself too much is damaging. The game is not going anywhere.

I can honestly say that this game touched me in a special way. I don't know what it means to me, but it might be the best game I've ever played. As for Dark Souls 2, I think I'm going to take a break for now. I'd really like a break from everything, but quarantine's been extended to the end of this month.

I probably missed something that I wanted to say. I didn't finish writing this the first time.

If you made it to the end, I just want to say

    Thank you

    and

    PRAISE THE SUN!

Fell into the rabbit hole today.

    Posted: 06 May 2020 09:18 PM PDT

It's been awhile since I've played a Souls game. I've mostly been playing Fire Emblem lately, but figured today I'd start a new character. I wasn't sure what build to go for, but i got lucky and got the Balder Side Sword without farming. So i went with a dex build obviously. I placed the lord vessel, got the sword to +14, got the black bow of pharis to +10, and joined the dragon covenant. It's good to be back.

Holy sun is Anor Londo beautiful!

    Posted: 06 May 2020 02:08 PM PDT

I´ve played DS2 first and then DS3. I found a Prepare to die Edition (PS3) in a gamestop a few months ago and now reached Anor Londo. Wow. In DS3 Anor Londo is just a speedbump before Aldrich, a nice building glued to Irithyll. Irithyll had it´s one little wow-moment but Anor Londo itself was quite forgettable for me. I was a bit spoilered on how Anor Londo looks like but the feeling when I saw the city in the golden light was insane. The giant enemys at the start that didn´t attack until you get too close so that I could look for a bonfire, the gargoyles ambushing me at the elevator, the tricky fight against the guardians, the silver knights waiting in the corners, etc are so exciting! The small riddles where you try to figure out what´s the best way to progress or where the next shortcut could be are so well implemented. I took a closer look to every new statue or painting trying to find a new detail that could tell me something about the world. The excitement when I found an illusory wall and a dark room with Havels gear behind it. And of course seeing my bros onion knight and Solaire again!

I haven´t reached Ornstein and Smough yet. I watched a Let´s play some years ago so I know a bit about the bosses and the game in general but I´m blind enough to get excited over every new level. I just reached Anor Londo today and wanted to share my excitement :)

PS: I don´t know how but I somehow beat the Silver Archers so many complain about first try

    Should I continue playing?

    Posted: 06 May 2020 06:51 PM PDT

I bought this game 3 months ago, I was really excited but unsure if I will be able to enjoy this game because I heard many that this was the hardest game in the series. I already completed ds3, bloodborne, and most recently sekiro so I had at least a bit of faith in myself that I won't quit the game because of a challenging boss.

Once I started playing I was completely invested and had the most fun I ever had in any game. The level design was just completely amazing, the atmosphere, the soundtrack, the bosses. All of it was what I expected to be and much more. I got to the dlc a few days ago and it's hands down the best dlc I have ever played of any game. The bosses in this dlc were so challenging but so much fun to beat.

Unfortunately though once I beat the dlc I went to the tomb of the giants and that area sucks so much. I hated every single minute of it. So I planned on doing that later and continued to the crystal cave before seath. I didn't hate it as much as tomb of the giants but still wasn't a fan of the invisible bridge. I went down to the lost of izlath and now I'm fighting the bed of chaos. I seriously don't think I can beat this game. And even if I end up beating chaos I have to still finish the tomb of the giants.

I really don't want to quit the game but does it get any better?

I was looking through the list of NPC summons in Dark Souls 1 and I found Pharis wasn't there but I had summoned them in Undead Parish before so it's likely that it may have been a cosplayer. If it was then they certainly tricked me and did their job well!
