The Unappreciated Beauty of the Travelling Merchant Chest Piece.

    Posted: 08 May 2020 02:29 AM PDT

Alright, so as we all know, armor in these games is pointless in terms of stats, and the main reason we wear or even farm to get specific pieces is PURELY for fashion. And Dark Souls 2 gives us probably the most diverse wardrobe of any Souls game, and some really amazing looking armor to boot. If you want to be a Prince in Shining Armor, you can do that with ease. Wanna be a Dark Knight from Hell, you can do that too. Warrior princess, sure; arch mage, you bet! The limitations are pretty small, and though not all armors are made equally, Dark Souls 2 probably gives us some of the flashiest armor in the Souls series.

However, there is one piece of armor in this game that I do like a lot, but at the same, wish it went even further with its design to make it truly stand out. Or maybe you could even find a more "advanced" version of this set in late game so that the stats are actually not scary to look at verses your late game set.

That my fellow Curse Bearers, is the Travelling Merchant's set.
To some people, this set is probably very dull, and completely inferior to all the flashy armor in the game.
Others, you may really like this armor and might even wear it even in late game.

Me personally, I've always appreciated it, but felt that it just wasn't flashy enough. I'm the kind of guy who loves the "over-geared" look or the very ornate but still practical look (Throne Defender Chest Piece being my prime example in this game, or Sir Alone's Armor).
However I started a new character today, and instead of starting as a Wander like I usually do, I instead chose the explorer, which starts with the Travelling Merchant armor. And it gave me the chance to really examine and admire it.

This isn't some might plate armor set, or even the most flashy design for someone to wear, however it is a set worn by an individual wandering around in the most harshest of conditions, in one of the most hostile worlds, scrounging and collecting anything of value that they can to try and make a profit. And the chest piece especially tells this story.
    On it you will find
    - A pauldron with a bird emerging from it, wings open
    - A lineup of badges or medallions on the back
    - A bandoleer carrying several pouches
    - Dozens of pouches ranging from large to small on the chest, back and waist
    - A pair of scrolls
    - A collection of bottles and jars
    - A single dagger
    - A MUG
    - And a spoon and fork.
Never mind that the coat itself looks pretty ornate in quality with all its little embellishments and the back is even strung together almost like a Corset.

I personally love this as I said before, I'm a sucker for the "over-geared" look, but also because this sort of design makes a lot of sense to me. If you were wandering in a world like Drangleic, wouldn't you be scrounging together everything of value that you could either to sell or use or even make something out of/have the blacksmiths make something?
It's why we collect all that Titanite, all those weapons, scrolls, armor, rings, etc. But all that stuff needs somewhere to be stored, some for quick access. And one little baggie on the side isn't going to store all those firebombs, moss, knives, etc. But with the Merchant's top, you can visualize that your Curse Bearer is carrying their supplies with them as needed.

That's why I like this set... but, I do feel that I would have loved it even more if it went even further with its design, or had a later variant that was even more flashy.

I think it should have been longer, like an overcoat- something similar to the coat worn by the Merchant in Resident Evil 4- possess maybe a satchel, larger pouches, more scrolls and stored daggers, even more medallions and details lining the coat tails, the sleeves, give it some fur or another pauldron. Heck, maybe since it could be a later variant, maybe they have metal pauldrons and a breast plate under the coat? And since this is supposed to be a travelling merchant, give them a backpack! In the entire series, we only see the Bellkeepers get backpacks, so why not a travelling merchant? If old lady Melentia can carry that big cart on her back, we can carry a travel pack, surely.

And while that's happening, maybe the rest of the garb can get an upgrade? Give the trousers a kilt with more pouches and decorations, a bunch of trinkets to show where they've been, medallions on the boots, daggers holstered on the legs, or maybe even shin guards to give a bit of armor. The gauntlets/gloves- could be either or- could have more medallions or small knives tucked on it. As for the hat, personally I'd like a larger hat like a Witch Hunters had, complete with decorated brim, medallions, the head scarf, maybe even give it a Plague Doctors mask (it'll keep you safe from Corona- I mean toxic!) just to show how much more experienced this merchant was as they went to poisonous lands like Harvest Valley.

Or alternatively, you could just take all the beginning armor sets and mash them into one.

Many armors in this game tell a story, and I think the Merchants garb tells one too, a very cool one at that. But, most people pass it up because it is of course- not cool enough compared to other sets. Which I feel is a real shame, because I do like what it's got going for it.

So to the one person who's read this far, thanks for hearing my ramblings. Personally, I'm probably only thinking about this because I LOVE character designing, and I love making clothing/armor that's really unique and loaded with details.

And after typing this, I'm probably going to draw my idea out for the internet to see... and hopefully I can figure out how to have the image show up on the post so people will actually see it.

Thus concludes my little fashion ramblings. Thanks for reading this far. Am I overthinking this, or do you think the Merchant's set deserves more love?

    Greetings, Bearers of the Curse!

For the last months I've been practicing once in a while on digital painting with my note 8 and I've finished just today a picture of my favourite psycho from the Soulsborne series, Creighton the Wanderer: https://imgur.com/gallery/qKe7j7O

I'm still learning, thus far from making perfect artworks but I'm quite happy with what I got and will appreciate any sincere critique you can offer about my work!

I think the game feels sorry for me in some way

    Posted: 08 May 2020 12:47 PM PDT

Well, I still haven't died. Somhow. I guess hand axes were the way to go. Haven't made much progress, but I'm a quarter of the way to dragleic castle.

Friends don't let friends invade alone in the Belfry.

    Posted: 08 May 2020 04:21 AM PDT

What a sad end for my first playthrough.

    Posted: 08 May 2020 02:31 PM PDT

So, I was taking my first playthrough of DS2 now trying to sunbro as much as I can and having fun. I got to Drancleic castle and get invaded. I hear the invader die, get dozens of millions of souls and then I die too.

Now my soul memory is so high that I cannot sunbro anymore, neither can I pvp.

I'm sure the invader was a hacker, which means the game mat flag me as a hacker too... Is it even possible to finish the game if that happens? Is it possible to avoid being flagged?

I don't know how to feel about this. I should be pissed off, but feel just sad. Nothing I could've done to avoid this, except play offline.

Is anybody playing on Xbox 360?

    Posted: 08 May 2020 12:28 PM PDT

It seems pretty active, I see ghosts all the time, and if I ever start NG I see summon signs and get summoned pretty often, but my main character is a SL147, and I'm not seeing a whole lot of action, I've made a few friends that I play with regularly, but most of the people I meet are playing from Brazil and don't speak English. I'm looking for friends that are playing this game on Xbox 360 that are around my soul memory level, I'm trying to get sunlight medals and would be more than willing to help anybody out that needs any. I don't remember my soul memory right now but I will edit this post later with the current soul memory. My current bosses are the ancient dragon and vendrick.

Ivory King is such a cool boss fight

    Posted: 08 May 2020 11:58 AM PDT

I just beat him for the first time ever, and wow. Just fucking wow. Ivory King > Every other boss in the game. His quality is on par with the bosses of DS3, and he's the best fight in DS2 thus far, alongside Looking Glass Knight and Fume Knight. It's still a shame to see that the vast majority of the bosses in the game don't get anywhere near his quality, and are rather boring.

Even better is the lore. His lore makes the fight even better, and the same can be said with Fume Knight. It's also very unique, with the Loyce Knights being a welcome feature. I did summon Lucatiel and another player but that was mainly for the Charred Loyce Knights in the fight that comes before Ivory King, and Lucatiel died in the very beginning of the fight with the king. I really enjoyed the Crown of the Ivory King DLC, and I'd honestly run through it again. I'd put it up there with the Ringed City and Artorias of the Abyss DLCs.

I'm now tackling the Sunken City DLC, and I hope the quality is similar.

    Any tips for a Newcomer?

    Posted: 08 May 2020 11:52 AM PDT

Greetings! Last year Sekiro was my first modern FS title. Became obsessed with it, played through NG+7 w/demon bell and no charm, yadayada. Since then, I've been on a mission to conquer similar challenges. I started with DSR, and just finished the platinum. Have just started SotFS, around the second bonfire in Forest of Fallen Giants. Just wondering if there are any basic things I should know? For example, I just read that adaptability can improve roles, which was not even remotely intuitive for me. So, are there any important things like that that I should know?

Dark Souls 1-3 Complete Item Collection

    Posted: 08 May 2020 10:21 AM PDT

So I've made it my quest for the last year to collect every item in Dark Souls. 1 2 and 3. I believe I have achieved this feat after obtaining the Illusory Rings in DS2 but I cannot find a cumulative list of every item for these games??? Yes I've checked the wiki's and I have everything I could find on them but there were some sneaky items like alternate pieces for a couple armor sets in DS2 that weren't listed under the armor tabs.

TLDR: Is there a comprehensive guide for someone looking to collect EVERY item in all three souls games?? And also, anyone on here have accomplished the same thing and want to post comments on their journeys??? Love to hear it!

Today I have to return the game to my friend (He never played it) but in the future maybe I will buy it to level up to SL 838 (I left it in 503). Thanks for reading and Praise the sun my bros

I'm playing dark souls 2 for the first time I'm 26 hours in someone invaded me called Hitler I never saw him suddenly I gained one million souls and got back stabbed and died instantly never seeing the other player. Now when I re spawned I have no weapon in hand I can move around normally but the second I open the menu my game instantly crashes.

    Why i do no dmg?

    Posted: 08 May 2020 11:58 AM PDT

I've came back to ds2 after a really really long time, after reaching sl 150 I decided I was in for some pvp in the arena, which is surprisingly well populated, but i found myself in a kinda bad spot:

I currently play a dex build (50 dex), flamberge as a main hand weapon and i switch between rapier and partizan on the offhand, but I've noticed I seem to do very little dmg compared to what most of my opponents do with similar weapons, the rapier and partizan tickles a bit, but are kinda a decent poke, the problem comes with every single main hand weapon I've tried (except DCGS, which is still ridicolous) I feel like i do close to 0 dmg, I'm still winning a ton, but IDK i felt like the dmg in pvp used to be a bit higher.....

The problem may be due to the fact that I'm still playing on SL 150 when the only thing that matters is soul memory, but cmon, what does it mean that a R2 with leo ring doesn't take at least a quarter of someone's hp while when i get hit by a gs I get downed to a third of my health(I have 1700 hp and my armour is medium class) .

I have to mention, i pve my dmg feels right, in pvp doesn't.

    Regarding guard break

    Posted: 08 May 2020 10:46 AM PDT

I can't seem to find the answer to this when searching online but does poise or shield stability or ??? affect the success of a guard break or is it solely affected by the stats of the attacker trying to break my guard? I am trying to prevent having my guard broken.
