The mystery, the way you play with caution and fear, the universe and lore with beings that mess with your imagination, the feeling of discovering a new location completely different from the another like is another world, the quietness, no game will make me feel that immersive ever again, first time i get to duke's archives i will never forget

I beat Dark Souls for the first time

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 06:19 AM PDT

I got it for free years ago when it was on Games with Gold on Xbox 360, and I only got past Taurus Demon, then I got lost and just gave up. I bought the remastered version on PS4 a week ago, and as of a few hours ago, have defeated Gwyn, as well as the dlc bosses and linked the flame. When the credits rolled I just sat there and watched and listened to the beautiful music for a good 5 minutes, before getting ready to do it all again.

I'd obviously heard of a few bosses and areas that had alot of notoriety, like O&S and Blighttown, but I didn't have too much of a problem with them. I beat O&S on my 2nd try and I actually enjoyed making making my way to Quelaag's Domain through the dark. Most of the areas felt really good and I enjoyed going through them (except lost Izalith and Tomb of the Giants, they can fuck off). I have played Bloodborne, so I feel I was spoiled slightly by bosses in that game. In DS, there were only a handful of bosses that I was really challenged by in a good way. Gwyn, Artorias and Manus come to mind. Capra Demon was very hard, but was no fun at all (those dogs man). Most other bosses I beat with relative ease, or just weren't that memorable to be honest. Still, I felt that the atmosphere and setting was so good, and I wish I had played and completed it years ago.

I'm going to head into new game plus, maybe switch up my playstyle a bit, get some cool new weapons and hopefully I'll enjoy some of these bosses more at this harder difficulty. Praise the sun!

Black Knight didn't drop the Halberd

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 02:21 AM PDT

I don't think there is, but does anyone know a way to get a Black Knight Halberd besides the Black Knight in the Darkroot Basin? He didn't drop it and I don't want to restart but I really want to use the weapon.

Just started my first Souls game, Dark Souls: Remastered, but... Am I playing wrong?

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 09:28 PM PDT

So, I started like two weeks ago, but I don't/can't play every day. I am currently at Anor Londo, at the Solaire's bonfire (this for context of how much I know about the game).

I started the game as blind as I could, but that's pretty hard. I knew vaguely online play is based on not being hollow, so I pretty much almost always am hollow. I also know about fat rolling and how that works, a tiny bit about covenants and that's about it in a general sense. I knew the way and bosses up to meeting Solaire before going to Undead Parish, and knew the Gargoyles but didn't know when it was.

So as I said, I play almost exclusively hollow, just restoring humanity to rekindle bondfires. I always have either 0 humanity or whatever I gain from human enemies, never use a humanity item except for bondfires. Don't know what holding more humanity does either way. I have an Elite Knight set, Asthoras Sword +1, (I think, it's the sword with 80 attack and 80 magic damage), Crest Shield, and normal rolling (I have 32 out of 68 I think) Pyromancy (with every spell the guy sells me), 2 attunements, and the ring that syphons health from enemies. I'm level 54

I first tried almost every boss I've encountered, safe for the demon at Lower Burg with the two dogs (the stupid dogs always staggered me enough to get clubbed by the guy), the revisit to the tutorial Asylum and the Iron Giant thingy before Londo.

I'm really liking the game so far, but I can't help but wonder... Am I playing the game wrong? Should I strive to play human and have people invade me and recruit phantoms? Is my build the "noob build"? As I always see people naked on YT videos and stuff, yet I'm basically packed. Is Sword and Shield a bad/noob build? Should I learn magic, which I've been avoiding? Should I farm humanity? Items? How can I first try the bosses when I'm supposed to be noob, like am I cheesing the game somehow with the way I play? It's feeling me with insecurities (yeah, I know it's stupid), and I can't quite get it out of my head.

I have also seen wikis for some things, and for example, I spoiled myself how to revive the Firelink Shrine firekeeper, rescued the long hat guy, I didn't safe Lautrec and found out later that I could, or that Solaire will die if I don't do some complicated, specific things, but in general I try to avoid reading wikis. Am I spoiling the game for me? Or should I read more wikis and have a proper build and understanding of the game?

I'm sorry if this is stupid, spam or unnecessarily long. I just want to know if I'm doing something wrong, or I'm overthinking this too much. If you've read so far, thank you, you're awesome.

    Boss weapons and achievements

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 11:52 PM PDT

So I'm trying to get the "Dark Soul" achievement, and I'm almost there. Unfortunately, I fucked up and didn't get Seath's tail, or Priscilla's tail. My question is, if I were to go over to r/snuggly and have someone drop me the weapons, would it count towards my achievement?

Is it normal to find Stray Demon much harder than Sif?

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 03:32 AM PDT

I'm playing for the first time, and recently beat Sif on my first try, only using 3 of my +2 Estus. It seemed like Sif was very easy to just block, with only the dashing swing taking out enough stamina to make it a threat, and after a block I could usually get in a few free hits.

Then I remembered a friend telling me the Stray Demon, who had destroyed me much earlier in the game, dropped a Titanite Slab, and I decided to go and fight it. It seemed to hit much harder, its attacks weren't physical so I couldn't even try to block them with my greatshield, and it seemed to have about as much health.

Is it unusual to find Stray Demon to be much, much more difficult, to the point where I died to it once despite killing Sif so easily?

    First titanite shard

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 03:32 AM PDT

I am in undead burg and got a titanite shard from some skelly I think. I started as a bandit would it be a good idea to +1 my axe or should I save it for something else? Not sure how rare they are.

I still haven't beaten tauros if that matters.

O+S defeated in my SL1 run!!!

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 10:08 PM PDT

I've been playing Dark Souls pretty hardcore ever since I got the remaster shortly after it came out. I've gained a lot of knowledge of the game, and played a bunch of different builds, I've even written a strategy guide for taking on the Four Kings in higher NG+ cycles. But until recently, I hadn't ever attempted an SL1 run. But a few weeks ago, that changes. I figured...why the hell not.

To be honest, I wasn't sure how it would go. I'm mostly in the habit of wearing heavier armor, mid-rolling, and blocking instead of rolling or parrying. I kind of wanted to see how I would do in SL1, if I could make my gameplay style work for it, or if it would force me to play in the "preferred'" style (wearing rags or going naked, parrying a lot, and turning every fight into a fast-roll somersault competition).

Thus far I've actually been able to make my style of play work for SL1. My default gear to date has been Havel's Ring, the Elite Knight set, a Balder Shield, a reinforced club (fire, divine, and lightning versions), a light crossbow, and of course the pyromancy flame.

Getting to O+S hasn't proven to be all that difficult. However, my first few attempts at fighting them didn't go so well. I decided to head back to Firelink Shrine, and see what equipment I could upgrade. Long story short, I farmed Darkwraiths and upgraded most of my equipment as far as I could get it with chunks (and upgraded a few things with the several slabs that dropped for me). And at the end, with a metric ton of souls, I descended down to Blighttown to upgrade my flame to the max and get all the remaining pyromancies that Quelana would sell me. I headed back into the O+S with substantially stronger equipment. I entered the fight wearing the following:

    • Crown of Dusk
    • Elite Knight Armor, Gauntlets, and Leggings (all upgraded to +9)
    • Fire Reinforced Club +7
    • Ascended Pyromancy Flame +5
    • Great Combustion (8 casts)
    • Great Fireball (4 casts)
    • Balder Shield +15
    • Havel Ring
    • Bellowing Dragoncrest Ring

The fight started rather badly. I got to the fog, and realized I hadn't equipped the Crown of Dusk or the Bellowing Dragoncrest Ring. I try to switch to them, but right after I finish, one of the Royal Sentinels clobbers me. I sip estus and walk through the gate. However, as soon as I'm through the gate, the Sentinel clobbers me again, through the gate. This is going REALLY badly.

I manage to heal AND avoid Ornstein's charge, and light him up with Great Combustion. He hits me, but I'm doing really good damage, and just double down on it. I use 4 casts on him. I think the third actually killed him, but I was kind of panic-casting at that point. The fourth one gets Smough a bit too, as he's right up on me. I heal, and then the mid-fight cinematic happens.

Back from the cinematic, and as always happens in games that put a cutscene in the middle of a fight, I'm a bit disoriented. Luckily I get my bearings fairly quickly, and the game has decided to start Super Smough a decent way away from me. I quickly get a column between the two of us, and switch to Great Fireball. He breaks the column, and I throw a fireball at him. Decent damage, but I can tell that the four fireballs alone aren't gonna do it. He holds his hammer in front of him. GODDAMN, he's gonna do that charge that tends to one-shot characters that AREN'T SL1. I manage to evade the charge, and toss another Great Fireball. This sequence repeats a couple more times. All out of ranged pyro, I switch back to Great Combustion, which has four casts remaining. Luckily he seems to have gotten bored of the charge, and starts swinging his hammer. I wait for a pause, then move in and start spamming R1. Two casts of Great Combustion later, I have achieved victory!

I'm beginning to think that I may be able to do SL1 with my mid-rolling, non-parrying, shield-blocking gameplay style. I thought that O+S would be one of my major hurdles, but honestly Havel was more of a pain in the ass (although I mostly blame that on my controller having some pretty sticky buttons).

    Twitchy movement help

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 01:30 AM PDT

    Hi all,

I've been having some controller issues in Remastered, and wanted to see if any of you may be able to help at all.

I'm playing on Steam using a DS4 with micro-usb connection. It's a new controller, I bought it a month or so ago and have played fine in other games with it. I use the default Steam mapping for PS4 Controller (although have tried recalibrating the sticks due to the issue, to no avail) and am having this weird issue where when running forward, my character will twitch to the left.

Here's a link to a thrilling video of what's happening, I hope you'll be able to see it okay:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BYN0L1TJ5Y&feature=youtu.be&ab_channel=FuzzyStomach

Has anyone else experienced this in DSR? I'm not very familiar with configuring controllers, so any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

    Lost my Xanthous Crown!

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 01:17 AM PDT

I tried trading it with snuggly for the god-teir ring. Game bugged out and it despawned without giving me the ring. What do I do? I know you can get the ring in Anor Londo, but long story short, I broke it thinking that it's a temporary break. First playthrough, so don't judge me! Overall, this is not going well. Advice?

With as little spoilers as possible, what should i do with the special item souls i find?

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 01:04 AM PDT

So after killing Moonlight Butterfly and discovering that i got it's soul, i started to wonder what exactly i'm supposed to do with them.

I got the Fire Keeper soul awhile back, but i haven't used it for the Estus Flask yet because i wasn't sure if thats the only thing i could do with it.

So, what am i supposed to do with these two, and any further special souls i find? Just use them or keep them as long as i can?

How do you play coop with friends in remastered?

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 08:46 PM PDT

    Invasions are... annoying

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 12:23 AM PDT

Especially in Coop, me and my friend are enjoying the game together so far (I've played it a couple of times but he never did), but then we arrived to Anor Londo, killed Gwynevere and Anor Londo becane... well the real Anor Londo.

The thing is, there's two guys who invaded us NON-STOP, and when you die before the boss of night-Anor Londo, well let's say it's one of the worst backtracking of the game to get to the boss fog again.

They weren't even playing fair, they just wanted to humiliate us, their builds were clearly optimized, one had a fucking swird that you just can't go out of the combo + Made us toxic after 3-4 hits.

The problem with that is the Humanities... they almost bankrupted us, how are we supposed to continue playing the game now ? One of them was invisible too, I don't know if it's a cheater or what but right now i wanna throw my PS4 off the window.

Why was it so complicated for From Soft to put an option "Pve Only".

I don't mind fighting others people online but I wanna practice before, those guys clearly know the game since a long time and that's just... not funny.

When I choose to close the application on my PS4, what happens, does the guy still win something or is this a full defeat for him ?
