/r/DarkSouls - Modding Monday. Posted: 19 Apr 2020 11:12 PM PDT Welcome to the weekly Dark Souls mod announcement and discussion thread! Beware! Use of mods whilst connected to the internet can cause you to get banned from online play! For more information, or to continue the discussion visit /r/ModSouls Using mods (PC only!) to enhance or add new content to the Souls games is great fun! It is important, however, to understand that mods are against From's EULA/ToS, so there is a great risk of being banned when using them due to From's anti-cheat--which is deployed in most versions of the Souls games. Versions of the games where modding is safe due to no anti-cheat: Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition Versions of the games where modding carries a very high risk of being banned: Dark Souls: Remastered Dark Souls II Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin Dark Souls III Our recommendations for safe modding *This advice is intended for first-time or relatively inexperienced modders who want to get into modding without risking a ban on their main Steam account. Basic Steps: Make a separate Steam account Use Steam's Family Sharing feature to provide your new account with access to your main Steam account's game library. Install games to be used with the new account in a separate directory. Once you've found your mods be sure to read (and follow) the mod author's instructions carefully prior to installation. Set Steam to "off line" mode. Install the mods and perform any necessary setup. Enjoy the fun and interesting experiences offered by mods! I beat Dark Souls Re-Mastered today! Loved every second of it. Now on to Dark Souls 2! Posted: 19 Apr 2020 09:47 AM PDT It felt so good getting that final blow on Gwyn. Which by the way, was way easier than I had anticipated. I beat him on my second attempt. There was definitely harder bosses in the game so it was a slight letdown. But damn did it feel good beating the game. I'm now going to start Dark Souls 2 and then 3. I can't play Bloodbourne unfortunately so I'll probably go with Sekiro after DS3. Then who knows, maybe after I beat all of these, Elden Ring will be out! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 19 Apr 2020 07:27 PM PDT Long Post Warning (If you don't care about context, skip all this nonsense and scroll down to............) As stated in the title, I completed DS1R. To contextualize my experience a little bit, I want to share some background. DS3 was my first fromsoft experience and I fell head over heels for it. Amazing experience. I made a similar post to this about my experience with DS3 NG+ here if you're interested in that. I have also beaten Sekiro which I also loved. Probably my favorite combat system ever in a video game. I'm also a somewhat experienced Monster Hunter player (played 3 Ultimate, Generations, and World + Iceborne) which I only mention because the combat is similar to dark souls. All of this is just to say that I am pretty experienced in this sort of game by now and had an idea of what to expect going in. Additionally, I went in mostly blind. By virtue of engaging with the gaming community at large for the past decade, I naturally had some exposure to Dark Souls. I new of Blighttown, Anor Londo with its rafters and archers, Ornstein and Smough, Artorias, Bed of Chaos and a few others. For the most part, I don't think this significantly impacted my experience with the game. That said, I did use guides occasionally. I like to explore an area as well as I possibly can on my own and then when I think I'm about to walk into a boss room, I'll look up a guide to the area to see if I missed anything I might care about. If I did, I'll go back for it. Some things in these games are also just crazy to try figuring out without guides. And lastly, I played this game entirely solo. I never summoned any NPCs or player characters. I also played almost the whole game as a hollow so I was never invaded either which I kind of regret. HERE!So before thoughts, stats! (with a few thoughts mixed in). My final build upon facing Gwyn:Level: 99 VIT: 30 ATT: 8 END: 30 STR: 27 DEX: 34 RES: 16 INT: 18 FTH: 18 Weapons: Claymore (basically through the whole first half. Think I switched after Bed of Chaos) and Cursed Greatsword of Artorias. Armor: Mostly the Wanderer set. Stuck the Gargoyle Helm on at some point and never took it off. Shields: Target Shield, Grass Crest Shield, Crest Shield, Eagle Shield (exclusively for Bed of Chaos) Rings: FaP, Wolf, Havel's, whatever was appropriate for an area, Hornet (exclusively for Gwyn) Note, like I said, I don't like to use guides so I just wing my builds. I don't really care if they're optimized or not. I played the vast majority of the game two handing my greatsword and not worrying about my shield. I kept my weight in fast roll territory as often as possible and prioritized rolling over shielding. I just think it's way more fun than turtling behind a shield. Boss Stats:
Asylum Demon: 0 Taurus Demon: 0
Capra Demon: 12
Bell Gargoyles: 6
Moonlight Butterfly: 3
Gaping Dragon: 0 Chaos Witch Quelaag: 0
Iron Golem: 1
Dragonslayer Ornstein and Executioner Smough: 3
Sif: 0
Stray Demon: 3 Ceaseless Discharge: 8 Yup. This fight is utter bullshit. Hitboxes are miles wider than the animations. Fire blast attack could home your ass all the way to Anor Londo. Finicky to even get him to walk to a spot where you can properly fight him. Just awful. Demon Firesage: 1 Centipede Demon: 2
Bed of Chaos: 7
Pinwheel: 0
Gravelord Nito: 5
Dark Sun Gwyndolin: 3 Crossbreed Priscilla: 0
Seath the Scaleless: 0
Four Kings: 0 Sanctuary Guardian: 0
Knight Artorias: 5
Black Dragon Kalameet: 4
Manus, Father of the Abyss: 3 Gwyn, Lord of Cinder: 1
A Few Quick RankingsFavorite Bosses:
Least Favorite Bosses:
So overall, while I still loved the challenge that the bosses presented, I found the boss quality to be quite a bit lower than DS3 or Sekiro but man oh man did From really find their footing with the DLC bosses. The design quality and difficulty were turned up to a whole new level and a adored it. I just wish more of the base game bosses could've received the same treatment. There were a few standouts but I thought there were a lot of throw away bosses. I mostly give it a pass because Miyazaki and company were still smoothing out the edges on boss design. Overall ThoughtsEverything I've heard about this game has proven to be true. The world design is probably the best in any game I've played. The interconnected nature of the first half is astonishing. Venturing far from Firelink Shrine is stressful and anxiety inducing and when you get on a random elevator and end up back, it is deeply relieving. That said, as much as I had heard about the first half being amazing, I had also heard about the second lacking the same luster. I didn't really know when these halves were distinguished going in but I quickly learned that the distinguishment comes upon receiving the lordvessel. As much as I wanted to love the second half, I could not. The areas don't have the same sense of wonder as the first half areas. Lost Izalith is miserable. Tomb of the Giants is distinctly my least favorite area in the series. Crystal Cave is neat but shallow. New Londo was actually pretty good. Great Hollow and Ash Lake were extremely underwhelming. What really drove home the separation in quality for me was the brilliance of the DLC. Both the areas and the bosses were top notch. After thinking on it, the separation in quality really did bring down the overall experience for me. The quality and thoughtfulness of design has been much more consistent in DS3 and Sekiro even if the overall world design in those entries haven't captured the same wonder. Dark Souls is amazing. The world, the lore, the approach to level design, all come together to create a one of a kind experience. But in the context of what fromsoftware has created since, the flaws seemed somewhat more apparent, at least to me. I love Dark Souls and I love it even more for the framework it helped craft for later, more polished entries in the fromsoft catalog. Completing this game felt like a rite of passage for me and I loved the journey. If anyone is still reading, thanks for letting me share my long winded thoughts with you. I'd love to hear about what you agree or disagree with and how you might be able to recontextualize some of my thoughts that you disagree with. [link] [comments] |
So I finally had to courage to go back into blightown. Posted: 19 Apr 2020 05:55 PM PDT I think this might be my second favorite area in the game now. The atmosphere is amazing, the maze like structures are amazing, and the way that some bridges in the environment actually sway when you go on them is so cool. This is all, I'm actually having a lot of fun right now. [link] [comments] |

If NPC-s are undead, why do they disappear, after they die? Posted: 19 Apr 2020 11:55 PM PDT I dont understand this. For example how can Siegmeyer die, if he is an undead, how can we find his body? Or the same with Knight Lautrec, how can we find his body, if he is undead, just like us. Should not they "respawn" at a bonfire? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 20 Apr 2020 02:54 AM PDT Hey guys, so, seeing that Dark Souls is now on a huge sale(-50%, -75% and -83%), i though this would be a good time to get one game to start playing. But i don't know which one to buy. So i came here to ask your opinion, and to help me decide which one to buy first. What game do you guys think is the best to start with? Edit: i decided along side my fellow redditors in the comments, to go with Dark Souls 3 Deluxe, just got it and i'm now installing. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 19 Apr 2020 07:39 PM PDT So new player here, I started playing today and so far I'm loving the game even though I'm starting to lose my sanity. I probably died about 10 times to the first lot of hollows up on the right cliffside of firelink before I tried a different approach. Instead of running up to kill them I walked slowly to the hollows and drew them out one by on, and that seemed to do the trick. Then I went through the aquaduct and up the stairs and got knocked off the side by two dudes who almost killed me, survived, tried to run from a naked guy and got ambushed by like 6 guys who absolutely shredded me when I tried to pick up an item. I tried again (did not fall off this time) and made it through a white wall, then a dragon decided to do a flyby which I was not expecting and almost got killed by another group and some guy pelting me with arrows but somehow survived. I rested at the bonfire then went back to kill everything (the spear hollows sucked) and went across the bridge. I almost got ambushed and when I tried to back up across the bridge I got killed by fire. I kept going however and fought my way to a ladder and got revenge on those fire throwing guys, went down the ladder and fought 3 armoured guys and was killed by an a crossbow man. Made my way back there and found a way up the tower and killed the crossbow person, went down, killed the hollows and went venturing only to be absolutely shrecked by a black tall person (no that's not what I mean). I redid the area, decided not to mess with the big guy and fell off a cliff trying to avoid a flaming barrel. I somehow landed safely (hollow yeeting himself off the cliff) dropped down to a ledge, tiptoed back up the stairs and climbed the tower. I found another white wall and go through it only to be interrupted by a taurus demon. He must've killed me at least 10 times before I narrowly killed him. Defeating that boss just made me feel very happy and the sense of accomplishment was awesome. I went down the stairs, across the bridge and almost got crisped by that same dragon. I went down and kicked a ladder then I realised that I was somehow back at the bonfire. I'm onto the next part of my journey now which I feel will be a lot harder so wish me luck, and cheers for listening. [link] [comments] |
Did anyone else feel a sense of loss when killing Gwyn? Posted: 19 Apr 2020 10:30 PM PDT So for starters I beat DS2 before DS1 and with that game I just felt accomplished when I killed the three bosses and beat it, but then playing Dark Souls Remastered I felt different when I killed Gwyn. Part of it was the music and how in the lore Gwyn was this heroic legendary figure, but part of it was just the game itself. I truly struggled with Ornstein and Smough but after that fight clicked I killed every boss up to Gwyn except for The Bed of Chaos first try (Bed of Chaos took three attempts). I struggled a little with Gwyn until I got his parry timing down and figured out the tell for his grab, and then I killed him with relative ease. Once I killed him though I didn't feel that normal wave of accomplishment - I felt loss, mainly because for years Dark Souls One has been this game that I viewed as this masterpiece of challenge that if you beat it would signify you as among the best of gamers. The game was almost legendary in my mind when it came to challenge - mostly because of O&S - so when I beat it I felt like that challenge was gone. Maybe it's just me, but I'm curious if anyone else felt similarly upon beating Gwyn. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 19 Apr 2020 04:27 PM PDT Hi, I'm trying to make a narrative playthrough of Dark Souls 1. My goal is to run through the game in an immersive way, trying to catch and reflect on all the details of the world to make the lore appear in a natural way. I want to do it with some kind of diary narration. For exemple, I will play through the undead asylum up to firelink shrine, record it, then pause. the first chapter of the diary will be written by my character at the first bonfire in Fire Link Shrine. Then, I will record myself reading the narration, as if I was my character, and do a montage to link it to the footage of the video. I think that's a cool idea, I hope you do too. If you don't, please tell me how you'd make it better, but please don't discourage me from doing it. I am requesting help in two ways :First, if you have any tips of what route I should take, what characters I should talk to, in what order, what details to pay attention to, I'd love to hear them. I am somewhat knowledgeable about Dark Souls and I have a fairly good Idea of the general project, but I may miss some cool stuff, any idea is good to hear. Second, I'd like the help of someone, maybe a few people, to proofread my first chapter and give me a little feedback about it. To make sure there aren't any issues with the language and all. Thank you for your interest. Edit : Also if someone is really hyped about it, and have some kind of experience with voice recording, I'm interested in having someone else record the voice for my character, as I have no experience with it (but otherwise, I'll just try to gitgud at it, dark souls style). Who is your favorite npc of each game and why? Posted: 19 Apr 2020 08:58 PM PDT |
Posted: 19 Apr 2020 02:47 PM PDT This morning I had a problem with the first boss, the Taurus guy, heck, I even made a post about it. But since then I've learned how to roll my way to victory and no skeleton dared to stay in my way..until I beat the 2 stone chickens and rang the bell ..what the hell am I supposed to be doing ? The guy at the first bonefire told me about 2 bells right ? So I took the elevator down and it brought me back to the first location, I tried going down via the graveyard but FUCK ME it's a goddamed labirynth down there and killing those skeletons takes ages, and where do I go after killing that "witch" boss that makes clones ? I died falling into some hole because it's so freaking dark lol So I tought it was the wrong path and went back, made my way to the smith guy and trough the forest, even killed the big green moth and found a random key to a tower basement (?) and even bough that round "key" from the smith to open the shiny door in the forest..and once again, the 2 guys in there are so freaking hard to kill that I started doubting if I'm going in the good direction. I am lost in a Painted World (spoilers inside) Posted: 20 Apr 2020 01:07 AM PDT Hey guys; sorry for a silly question but I have run up against a dead end here. I am in the Painted World, and I feel like I've done everything, but there is a big weird dead monster or something at the end of this bridge and I don't know how to get past it. And there's no way out of here that I can see. Stuff I have done: opened the first door into the circular tower. Defeated an old-lookin', poison-spewing dragon. Made it through the super-obnoxious wheelie dudes in the basement, and two illusory walls (thanks, orange sign writers!) Got the annex key and gone up in the annex. Got the painting guardian armor set, the black cleric armor set, and Velka's rapier. Defeated King Jeremiah and got his whip. Got two pyromancies (one of which apparently does nothing, and caused me to lose a bloodstain with 2 humanity and maybe 60,000 souls, god dammit) and a miracle. Got the Bloodshield. Got the red sign soapstone. Defeated all the slow blobby dudes in the center courtyard. Thing I have not done: opened the other door in the circular tower, that is "closed by some contraption". I felt like the contraption to open this door might be post-boss, but now I'm not so sure. However, I can't find anywhere else to go! I'm mostly afraid of the wheelie dudes -- I only defeated them via jolly co-operation, and they killed my poor summoned friend in the process. Hopefully the contraption is not down there... Anyway I would rather not get spoiled by looking at a FAQ so if you can give me a clue, I'd love to hear it! Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |

i just had the strangest pvp encounter Posted: 19 Apr 2020 07:01 PM PDT [Switch] i had just gotten to the bonefire at anorlondo with solair and after resting i got invaded by someone name ADDY THE DADDY and he was in full giant knight armour and was using a zweihander. We did a friendly wave to eachother then this is where it went wrong. All of a sudden he started lagging around teleporting and walking through walls so i was just taking random damage while atempting to hit someone that was rubberbanding through walls. After about a minuete of this i got one shot by an eletric attack. And he suddenly stopped lagging. This was the strangest thing i have ever encountered during pvp in this game. Im asuming he was using some sort of lag switch but im not sure. ADDY THE DADDY if your out there, are you ok...? [link] [comments] |

Is it just me or is a sorcerer the most fun way to play ds2 Posted: 20 Apr 2020 04:54 AM PDT I've played ds1 as melee first then as a sorcerer and felt that melee was much more fun if not a bit more difficult. But with ds2 I don't find melee all that fun I don't know why but the enemy's feel a lot more static when you hit them with a big sword. But with sorcery it felt like the enemy's were actually reacting my hits rather than just ignoring them. I'm not looking for an argument saying this I'm just wondering if I'm playing melee wrong. Posted: 19 Apr 2020 07:38 PM PDT So basically I want to make a build with the great axe. My original thought was just to take my strength to 40 for the 1h requirement and normal ascension, and now I feel like I should have stopped earlier (26 or whatever the requirement is), only 2 hand it and take a chaos route because it gets huge AR. Does anyone know what I should do? I have 28 strength right now, is it stronger at 40 strength regular ascension then chaos +5 (with 10 humanity)? Is it stronger at 50 strength regular ascension then chaos? Help a strength bro out please and thank you :) [link] [comments] |
New time player — Just rang the second bell Posted: 19 Apr 2020 06:51 PM PDT Ok so I'm usually not one to make posts like this, but I'm playing DS for the first time, and have no one to vent/discuss with. I just needed to say FUCK Blighttown. Now, I know I've only just entered the shit storm to come. But holy crap I have never raged so much so far than in BT. Not even because the individual segments were hard, but because the quantity and the terrain itself killing me more often. Rickety bridges, camouflaged ladders, endless giant mosquitoes, poison mud, homicidal shreks... gah. Just needed to vent and say I am so relieved to finally be through it and also fearful of whats to come. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 19 Apr 2020 09:28 PM PDT Finally found a way across the dragon bridge and picked up a weapon called claymore, is it worth using? I'm currently using a longsword. [link] [comments] |
How do I upgrade my Zwiehander past plus 5? Posted: 20 Apr 2020 02:31 AM PDT Anyone know where, what blacksmiths or what I need to get it to plus 10 or 15 [link] [comments] |

Just come into DS world, some questions. Posted: 20 Apr 2020 02:11 AM PDT I started DS remastered. First time into DS. Really loving it. I've taken knight cause i like tank characters and I am investing into hp, str and stamina. BTW I have seen that some weapons are dex based. I have seen that some build are str, dex or both oriented and I don't really know the difference. [link] [comments] |
