Welcome to the weekly Dark Souls mod announcement and discussion thread!

Beware! Use of mods whilst connected to the internet can cause you to get banned from online play!

For more information, or to continue the discussion visit /r/ModSouls

Using mods (PC only!) to enhance or add new content to the Souls games is great fun! It is important, however, to understand that mods are against From's EULA/ToS, so there is a great risk of being banned when using them due to From's anti-cheat--which is deployed in most versions of the Souls games.

Versions of the games where modding is safe due to no anti-cheat:

Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition

Versions of the games where modding carries a very high risk of being banned:

    Dark Souls: Remastered

    Dark Souls II

Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin

    Dark Souls III

    Our recommendations for safe modding

*This advice is intended for first-time or relatively inexperienced modders who want to get into modding without risking a ban on their main Steam account.

    Basic Steps:

    Make a separate Steam account

Use Steam's Family Sharing feature to provide your new account with access to your main Steam account's game library.

Install games to be used with the new account in a separate directory.

Once you've found your mods be sure to read (and follow) the mod author's instructions carefully prior to installation.

Set Steam to "off line" mode.

Install the mods and perform any necessary setup.

Enjoy the fun and interesting experiences offered by mods!

Be sure to remove all file components of the mod before going back online!

Does the Leo ring for Ceaseless Discharge?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 02:24 AM PDT

When his arm is down and I can attack it with my rapier, does it count as counter damage? Does the Leo ring effect work?

Edit: it definitely works. 40 damage became 100 damage. Nice. My Ricard rapier is gonna get him rekt without cheese 🧀

How is the quarantine, and how are you passing the days now that virtually everything is closed? Damn, even playing videogames isn't the same during this pandemic, dying to get a hardcore gym session in XP

Semi casual gamer here. 1.5 hours in DS and I'm weirdly intrigued by this game.

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 01:18 AM PDT

I escape the asylum. Play the second level for like 45 minutes. As OCD as I am when it comes to exploring, I attack the sitting NPC dude. Big mistake. Now I gotta start the game again. I won't be a noob for too long, I promise.

No other game has ever done this to me. I am hurt but feel respected in a very peculiar way I can't describe.

Am I the only person who was this far off base with Seath?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 03:17 AM PDT

Playing through for the very first time. Made it to the Duke's Archives. Managed to get to Seath at the top of the area. Died. Was sent to prison. Made my way out and found the next bonfire.

I then proceeded to go back to the same place for the boss fight over and over again for at least two hours. Each time I died in less than 60 seconds. And each time I was quickly searching for some way to attack Seath. What was I missing? Some object to hit? A hidden path up to where I could attack him? I persisted in this logic because I had only just beat the Bed of Chaos. And I thought maybe it was similar to that fight, i.e use the environment to beat him somehow.

Now I'm normally the kind of person who likes to figure things out for myself. But I gave up and looked up what to do online. Turns out that I'm not supposed to fight Seath in that room AT ALL. In fact, there's a whole other area I needed to find and get through in order to fight him in a different place.

I never found the Crystal Caves the whole time I was wandering the archive. But even if I did, I wouldn't have thought to go there until I "beat" Seath first. Because I don't like going to a new area until I beat the previous one.

How in the blue fuck could anyone figure that out? The only way would be to just forget Seath and go explore the Caves. Is there anyone out there that actually figured this out by themselves? Or am I a total dumbass?

Losing a large amount of souls made you lose the desire to play?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 01:04 AM PDT

Have you ever lost a GREAT amount of souls (via double death) and feel the desire of surrender? I'm playing DS3 for the second time since years, i'm in the Cathedral of the deep and i've just lost souls for 3 levels. Since i'm kind of a novice, i'd like to ask you: is common to feel that sense of despair?

    Extra damage mechanic

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 12:56 AM PDT

Apperantly there is a hidden mechanic so that if you hit an enemy with the end of a halberd, it does extra damage. Can someone confirm that either this is true or that I've been trolled

I just beat Iron Golem first try!

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 10:17 PM PDT

That puts me at three first try kills as a first time player, being Pinwheel, Chaos Witch Queelag, and now Iron Golem. Maybe these aren't the hardest bosses, but I feel like I'm on a roll. I think I only got hit by the Iron Golem once even, my dodging was really on point mostly.

Did Scholar of the First Sin move enemies/items from their original positions?

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 11:46 PM PDT

I haven't played DS2 in years and recently bought it for the Xbox One since it's on sale. I never had any of the DLC, but it seems like some items have been moved and enemies have been swapped out with other ones. I looked around a little online and couldn't find anything about it, but wanted to know if they did move items/enemies around or if I'm just crazy? and if so why?

What is something you find overrated in the game?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 01:20 AM PDT

For me personally (and a friend of mine) it's the Giant Dad build. I just don't see why so many people use it, the zweihander is easy to avoid because it's an ultra, the mask of the father increases equip load by like, 5, and the giants amor doesn't have that much poise, and I personally think that people who use Giant Dad are casuals who literally looked up "most overpowered pvp build" and found it. That's just my personal opinion, what about you?

    Physique for Giants Set

    Hidden items?

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 10:33 PM PDT

I've just recently discovered the large shard to the left of the depths channeler and the souls behind the left amor londo archer. About to start a midlevel black knight cosplay run and I'm a bit of a completionist. Do you guys know of any out of place items or hidden items that are often missed?

How Do I get Kalameet’s Obsidian Sword easily before killing him?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 04:13 AM PDT

I'm focusing on his tail before trying to really kill him, so far I've yet to make 1/4th damage

Currently I'm using the following: Black Knight Greataxe+5 Black Iron Greatshield +15 Mask of The Child Cloranthy Ring Ring of Steel Protection

Before you guys suggest Havel's Greatshield

I don't have the stats for it, I would need an extra+9 to my current 41 strength stat to wield it

Third Balder Knight I fight in a new run, and of course BSS drops

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 05:38 PM PDT

I spent like 2 hours farming it on a previous run where I actually wanted to use it, drops immediately on a new run. This run has had some great drops so far, I got the BKS, titanite catch pole, and the swag sword so far. Unfortunately no BKH though.

Third time doing this and I enjoy it each time: If you're new to the game feel free to PM me for guidance on what to do/where to go next!

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 04:10 AM PDT

I had many PMs last time and it was fun seeing people get to the end of the game.

It's a perfect time to start this game due to the lockdown. Feel free to PM me and I'll help you out with non spoiler advice. This game can be a lot for your first playthrough.
