Welcome to the weekly Dark Souls mod announcement and discussion thread!

Beware! Use of mods whilst connected to the internet can cause you to get banned from online play!

For more information, or to continue the discussion visit /r/ModSouls

Using mods (PC only!) to enhance or add new content to the Souls games is great fun! It is important, however, to understand that mods are against From's EULA/ToS, so there is a great risk of being banned when using them due to From's anti-cheat--which is deployed in most versions of the Souls games.

Versions of the games where modding is safe due to no anti-cheat:

Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition

Versions of the games where modding carries a very high risk of being banned:

    Dark Souls: Remastered

    Dark Souls II

Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin

    Dark Souls III

    Our recommendations for safe modding

*This advice is intended for first-time or relatively inexperienced modders who want to get into modding without risking a ban on their main Steam account.

    Basic Steps:

    Make a separate Steam account

Use Steam's Family Sharing feature to provide your new account with access to your main Steam account's game library.

Install games to be used with the new account in a separate directory.

Once you've found your mods be sure to read (and follow) the mod author's instructions carefully prior to installation.

Set Steam to "off line" mode.

Install the mods and perform any necessary setup.

Enjoy the fun and interesting experiences offered by mods!

Be sure to remove all file components of the mod before going back online!

Is there going to be a Return to Drangelic this year?

I can't wait for it to be a thing so the community becomes active again. I miss playing this game.

Lucatiel's story is kind of sad with everything going on in the real world.

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 07:42 AM PDT

Unlike DS3, I never got attached to the characters because I didnt think they were as fleshed out. But I'm playing through again right now and with everyone in isolation, her story of being lonely and worried she is getting symptoms of the curse, as well as worrying her brother has it and she may never see him again is probably similar to what a lot of people are feeling right now irl.

Hacker ruined my character? Game crashes

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 01:23 PM PDT

Just now I was happily dueling at the arenas and got matched against some guy aptly named "Hitler", before the gate raised I got transformed into the Black Dragon Set, my rings got all broken, my covenant changed to the sunbros, instantly got like 20millon extra souls and I died.

Now my char is glitched and when I try to unequip my weapons the game crashes, is there something I can do?

    Some people are really sad.

The year is 2012 and Dark Souls has been a hit, Miyazaki is currently working on Bloodborne. You are in charge of making all the executive decisions in DS2's development, what would've you done differently?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 08:05 AM PDT

    Here's what I would've changed personally:

    • Allow the player to riposte with their left hand weapon
    • Allow parrying with all weapons, including polearms and twinblades
    • Avoid all of that graphics downgrade fiasco
    • Improve the enemy placements in some areas (like Iron Keep or the DLCs)
    • Remove agility and adaptability
    • Tweak stat scaling on some weapons (for example make most halberds scale primarely with strength or quality and most spears either dexterity or quality, and twinblades to have high dexterity scaling)
    • Tweak character models to be more in line with what the consoles of the era were capable of (not what the PCs were capable of because it's an AA title)
    • Allow all of the elemental buff spells to work on ranged weapons
    • Implement some enemies that, as evidence suggests in the final game, were cut (for example, a variety of the Old Knight wielding the Old Knight Halberd)

    What would you have done?

    Just finished DS2:SOTFS...

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 12:22 PM PDT

...and now I've played Bloodborne, DS3, DSR and DS2. Over 100 hours per game. Time well spent. I'm even a little emotional with the end credits playing in the background...

I hear a rumor that there might be a Demon's Souls remaster for PS5. Is it true? I have it on PS3 but haven't played it. Might want to wait for the remaster and online features.

    Red phantoms in NG+

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 03:28 AM PDT

Okay I'm not much of a poster, but I just have to know: am I the only one getting completly wrecked by the extra red phantoms in ng+? I mean like the three before the Old Dragonslayer, the two in the pit you have to fall down to from a rope bridge before The Gutter and so on. They're like invaders except they're just enemies. It's so frustrating, I can't finish NG+ becasue of them. Especially in the pit I mentioned, as one of them is a caster, I'm slowed down by water and to either side there are explosive hollows, so I can't even run away. It might be because I play offline and hence have very little experience with human enemies like them, but seriously I died in that pit more times than to all bosses in the drowned and iron King dlcs combined. Played through the game three times in roughly a year, but I could never make it through NG+

    Charity PVE Tournament (April 24-26)

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 01:08 PM PDT

We have a PVE (hitless/no hit run) tournament coming up at the end of the month, which will include DS2 matches from some exciting hitless runners including Otzdarva, McDrunkard and others. The tournament benefits COVID-19 relief charities. Matches run April 24-26.

If you're familiar with the tournaments from 2018 and 2019, this is the first one I've hosted since last year. Coming back out of retirement for a good cause. Cheers!

    Best weapon for Frozen Outskirts?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 02:24 PM PDT

This is my last stop in Dark Souls 2. What weapon(s) do you recommend for the Reindeer, Lud, and Zallen? I have plenty of titanite to upgrade whatever weapon is suggested. My stats are:

    VGR - 39 END - 20 VIT - 20 ATN - 20 STR - 32 DEX - 26 ADP - 20 INT - 53 FTH - 33

I have Vendrick's blessing so I am always human as well. I've gone through most of the game with a longsword. Wondering what heavier weapons you suggest for Frozen Outskirts.

How long until you learned about agility?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 10:18 AM PDT

Be honest, how long were you playing the game before you learned that iframes were an upgradable start?

Personally, I had played through it twice (once without DLC, once with) before I learned. I just thought the hit boxes were broken.

The third run though... It was magic.

    Questions about King Vendrick

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 09:39 AM PDT

Okay so I have read some other posts saying you should probably get 4-5 giant souls so his defense goes down and what not. I have 4 giant souls on me as of now, and I still only do 100-200 damage per swing. Am I using the wrong types of sword? (used a lighting rapier+10, and now using a lightning drangeleic sword+4) because I know ive seen videos of people doing 400-500 dmg per swing? Anyone have any weapons or tips? Also want to mention im on 2-3rd NG

    About Loyce Souls

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 12:32 PM PDT

Had no idea about these and I just spanked the ivory king, I've read quite a lot about farming them and I've gotten a lot of conflicting information.

The ivory king is dead; is it worth using an ascetic and farming them until he spawns? Some have said to equip all the usual item discovery gear, however I've also read that it would cause you to get more armor drops instead, and that it won't help the amount of souls you get dropped.

I farmed 30 sunlight medals from the falconers using all different kinds of item drop stuff, and oddly enough, wearing just the gold serpent ring+2 seemed to have a better effect than the jester hat + tatters, etc so I'm not sure if the same principle applies here.

Lastly, do they eventually stop spawning if the ivory king is still alive? Joining the coc is an option but I'm certainly not looking forward to it

    Best resources for all builds

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 05:03 AM PDT

Hello all..long time souls player here. I'm not new to any of the games except for DS2 SOTFS. I played ds2 back in the day and beat it but never played the dlc or experienced any of the updates to the second game. Well my friend (who's brand new to the souls games) and I are currently working through the first game. Can you list the best posts/youtube links/websites with build information? I like looking up specific builds and working towards new builds without wasting points in stats. Thanks everyone!

Just got all the great souls

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 10:49 AM PDT

The emerald herald something about going through hills and forest. I remember seeing a gate called the kings gate in shaded woods. Does she mean shaded woods or forest of the fallen giants? Btw after defeating the great bosses I found some blue light torch like thingies and find out they're dlc areas. I left them cause I feel they're gonna be hard. Is there a way to access them again without backtracking?(like teleport to the blue torches?)

DS2 PvP hackers, watchdog and bans?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 09:29 AM PDT

The current situation with DS3 made me notice that a PvP Watchdog was never made for DS2.

Does DS2 suffer from the same issues as the other two games (on PC) where hackers can corrupt your account, get you banned, drop impossible items to get you banned, etc?

I haven't heard about many examples of this, could it be that in DS2, hackers can only cheat and can't damage your account?
