Shrine of amana is a lot better than I thought

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 06:18 AM PDT

People shit on this area so badly so when I was in it i was prepared to rage. But to be honest I went through the whole thing only dying 3 times, 1 because I accidentally rolled into the water pit and another is from a unexpected invader. I can't really say it's good because I'm a dex build and I deal high damage with bows, but I can definitely see why people(especially melee builds)hate it.

I really like the environment and the backstory of this area. And the milfanito's songs gave me eargasms. . People are also complaining about this area being really ganky which I feel is weird since I think there's a bit too, dare I say little enemies? I actually ended up buying too many arrows.(Bought about 1000 poison arrows, now I still have 700 arrows) And the demon of song is a giant joke that I defeated first try, which I don't really care since I really don't want to slowly shimmy through the water again.

Note that I am playing on vanilla dark souls 2, not SoTFS, which could be easier.

I never wanted this game to end

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 08:37 AM PDT

I never rushed through this game because I never wanted it to end.this was my first in the series, most games I get tired of very quickly, but ds2 offers so much versatility and the different pathways keep it interesting unlike games with only one path to play,I never felt confined by it,I'm already playing it all over again!🙂

I drew the Dragon Memories last night, mainly because I was bored in this quarantine, but also I think that they are the coolest area in DS2.

Anyone ever seen this happening ? Died because of fall damage at the birds nest without using the ladder

    The Pursuer is a joke.

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 01:19 PM PDT

The random encounters after the actual boss fight looked intimidating to me at first. Unless, you gitgud in parrying its ICE HOCKEY attack where he comes at you like he is skating or somethin. I have been using the Nipple shield and believe me, I was laughing out loud as I parry the fuck out of him and he gives me a long enough window to go and cook instant noodles. Good boy Pursi.

I thought I had seen it all [Eleum Loyce]

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 12:14 PM PDT

I'm making my way through the ivory king dlc and I come across what appears to be an npc white phantom. Then it waves at me and I'm like "no, that can't be an actual person" - it didn't say anyone had been summoned or was invading me.

I stare at him for a bit and notice he is not hostile. I decide not to attack in case he will help me against any enemies ahead in an area I had not been to yet. I continue walking forward and notice he is following me so I assume I was correct. I stop to open my inventory and change my ri...*BACKSTAB ONE-SHOTTED\*

Then he No Way's me to add insult to injury.

Finally got into the game after previously failed attempts, here are some thoughts

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 11:44 AM PDT

I have had a hard time getting into the game and uninstalled it multiple times 20 minutes into the game. I didn't really give it a chance after just how good DS3 was for me and even went on to finish Dark Souls 1 before it.

Now I said I am gonna play this game no matter what and I actually feel quite happy about my decision. I am enjoying this quite a bit more than DS1 and honestly it's a nice change of pace from DS3, which I have finished 5 times in like 1-2 months.

    I am at Lost Bastille/ Sinner's Rise with a +4 Mace.

First I wanna say that I like the speed of the combat and the weapons. They feel better than DS1 and the slower pace of the combat it's more relaxing than DS3. The rolling feels good, the weapons swing nicely.

Even though the level design is way down from DS1's majestic interconnected world, the way areas are designed isn't as frustrating as exploring Depths, Blightown, Queelang Domain, Demon Ruins, Lost Izliath in a row. That stretch gave me PTDS and made me hate DS1 as well as Tomb of the Fkers.

One location I didn't like it the No Man's Dwarf. Majula on the other hand is quite awesome. More bonfires is also a plus from DS1 and not having to backtrack until the Lordvessel.

Now I do have to say there are a bit to many enemies at times and that some of them chase way too far and also detect way to easily, but so far it's managable. I also got jumpscared a couple of times, which I didn't enjoy, especially during the Ruin Sentinel boss fight when one Sentinel would fall off the platform just to jumpscare attack me out of nowhere when recovering.

The bosses aren't terribly interesting so far, but I like having to face a bunch of them, it's actually fun. Nothing like Dark Souls 3, but still quite enjoyable. I wish they had a bit more of an identity, they do feel generic at times.

One thing that's a bit questionable are hitboxes. And I know Adaptability is a thing, but this doesn't mean I sit behind the Pursuer but his vertical slash that goes in front of him still hits me for some reason.

The worst aspect by far it's the slow Estus usage. It's just way down even from DS1 and downright terrible. In DS3 you can buff midfight with Resin, change weapons and rings while running around, do anything. Here it's a risk to chug a pot between boss attacks.

Also the health penalty for dying it's unnecessary because Effigy it's a bit scarce, at least up until this point. I usually let myself drop to 50% max HP, explore as much as possible and only use one when near a boss fight.

The game also doesn't have an interesting backstory like the other two, so lorewise I am not very invested, I am here for the gameplay mostly.

I let myself go Hollow when trying this game in the past, so wish me luck now. Cheers! :)

Don't try out weapons or spells in majula

    Posted: 09 Apr 2020 08:29 PM PDT

I just wanted to see if I could use toxic mist after casting iron flesh (which you can) and accidentally killed the emerald herald (the lady who helps you level up), I was really upset and searched in different forums if she had a gravestone were I could summon her, some people said she had, some people said the opposite but fortunately after around 5 hours the gravestone appeared and I could use her services again, searching through these forums I also found a lot of people who accidentally killed her just by casting spells or giving a powerful weapon a couple of swings, so I just wanted to say, if you are new to the game don't be as stupid as me and don't use any weapon or spell in majula or near any NPC

    Frozen Outskirts Rant

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 12:44 PM PDT

Avoid this area. Sooooo yeah. With the quarantine, I've been playing through my backlog of games, and I've taken my time to get here. DS2 is my favorite in the series, and I never played through the dlc's, so I decided to completely solo everything in the game. No summons. No messages. Nothing. Was able to last until this nightmare of an area. First couple of minutes were fine. I would get attacked by one Ice Bambi at a time, and I could hear them run up on me. After the first set of ruins though, everything went downhill. I ran into a human enemy and as I was fighting them, I got trampled by 2 reindeer. Died and went back. After 4 hours, and lots of death and crying, I just decided to hail mary through the area. I sprinted through along the right side of the Ice Plains of Death, and finally, FINALLY, made it to the boss. *Walks through fogwall* Oh. It's just Avaa again. Whatever. I take the cat down to half health, and oh, what do you know, a second cat. Okay shouldn't be too hard, I mean, the first one hasn't hit me up to this point. Lud hit me once. Half of my health is gone. I have 45 vigor. Hit knocks me over, Zallyn hits me, the exact moment I lose my I-frames, and I'm almost dead. Chugging ensues. As I'm chugging, I'm mauled, and I die. What a sad excuse for level design. No bonfire in the area, you can barely see anything, and when the blizzard does clear, you're too preoccupied with death reindeer to notice. I couldn't hit them without getting hit myself because I was using a Greatsword or the Fume Ultra Greatsword. The weapon is so slow and takes so long to recover that no matter how I hit them, they'd always get a hit in. I've always loved this game, but this area may have single-handedly ruined it for me. Entered NG+ without completing this area, and I feel completely content with that decision.

12,000 Soul ladder in Majula disappeared

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 12:39 PM PDT

Purchased the 12,000 soul ladder form Gilligan and upon my next play through the ladder has disappeared. Worse the option to repurchase the ladder is no longer there. Anyone else have this bug happen to them and know how to fix it?

Edit: same play though not NG+

Is PVP still active on DS2 SOTFS PC?

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 12:05 PM PDT

I started a new character and I haven't seen a single soapstone and no one responds to my soapstones. I am wondering if my previous account was shadowbanned somehow? I still see a decent amount of messages laid out with high ratings so I am not sure.

Can I use more than 5 souls against Vendrick?

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 08:15 AM PDT

Alright, so I just took down the Ancient Dragon and I already have the other 4 giant souls from the memories. My question now is can I get more? I know that you can use bonfire ascetics near the Giant Lord to farm for massive amounts of souls, but if I did that would I also get extra giant souls? Also, if I do get more would they decrease Vendrick's defenses anymore, or is his defense lowered as low as it can be at the moment?

I posted today in regards of how difficult I found this game to start off. Im just posting to say, this is honestly the best community on reddit Ive ever been in contact with. Honestly, you guys were so eager to help and went out of your way to send me links and give me advice in a way I doubt I would ever experience on any other subreddit. You guys are all legends and go the extra mile for no reason other than to help a noob start out, thankyou so much. Sorry if this is a shit post but I just really had to say thankyou as I was so blown away by the response I got today. Never change. Stay legends.

    PSA for Frozen Outskirts

    Posted: 09 Apr 2020 09:14 PM PDT

i just witnessed a host get thrown off the cliff at the end of the outskirts after aggro-ing 4 lightning horses

idk if people actually just run through this map or what, i was super confused when i got summoned and watched the host just start running off waaaay to the edge of the map

if you try actually sprinting through the entire map hoping summons will be fodder for the frozen reindeer, they do not de-aggro and your summons will attempt to follow you. if they die, that aggro is gonna go to you

or go to each building and get a shield that blocks lightning damage. if youre quick and start sprinting right when the snow dies down, you only fight 3 reindeer (maces seem good to damage them)

also if one reindeer charge takes 75% of your HP, the boss fight is gonna be hard without a friend so spare a thought for summons :)

also i want my sunbro medallions for sunlight spear please just let me help you :c

The greatest thanks to the modders and developers behind both the Grit Souls 2 Texture pack and Reshade.

I love Souls 2. It has never looked better, and I can't wait for the new reshade coming soon.

    Thanks for watching.

edit: the skips are the textures being overridden, and sorry about the sound effects being too low.

Rhoy stopped spawning for some reason

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 12:26 PM PDT

I'm trying to farm awestones offline for the champions covenant. I looked up how to do the trick with Rhoy the Explorer to get infinite awestones. That worked for a while, but now he's stopped respawning. Any idea what the problem is? I'm on vanilla DS2 if that matters.
