i think dark souls will always be a timeless masterpiece

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 12:43 PM PDT

so i just beat dark souls and i have to say......i think this game is the best Fromsoft game and probably the greatest game ever made. i thought i wouldn't enjoy it as it was an old game and i started with the later ones (bloodborne, dark souls 3, sekiro) but it turns out i enjoyed this one more than the others.

i think this game had the best world building, characters, world design and lore out of all the games with the lore being the best in a game ever imo. the combat i thought would be enjoyable but i really like how slow it is, it makes the character feel more human. world design in this game is masterclass, i not only does it make the game more repayable it makes lordran feel like a real place.

with that being said this game is a timeless masterpiece, and i really cant wait to play it again and finish exploring its secrets.

Self Made Mimic Figure (Resin Printed)

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 11:02 AM PDT

    Fellow undead,

i extracted the 3D File from our beloved game and converted it into a Blender File. After some remodelling i printed it with a resin printer, painted it et voilà:

(If it sounds to easy above: it took many failed prints, much remodelling and a few paint jobs to get it done. But i had fun and learned many things!)

    Black Knight Sword

Hi friends, new to the game.
I just got a Black Knight Sword by killing one of the knights...is this a good sword to use going forward, once I get the stats to use it?

Hybrid Caster Build - Stats? - Dark Souls Remastered

    Posted: 31 Mar 2020 06:44 AM PDT

Looking to make a pure caster build for mostly PvP and I want to have as many of the best spells as possible. Thinking pursuers, dark flame, dark orb, dark bead, tranquil walk of peace, and whatever the big aoe firestorm spell is. I'd like to never draw a weapon but I'll throw on whatever fits (right now I've been using estoc and enjoying the moves) for only when I run out of casts.

Is this possible at sl120? What should my stat spread look like? I forget in ds if I need dex/str to make dark sorceries hit hard enough or if dex is just grabbed mostly for the cast speed increase. I'd like to do without dex/str if possible.

Wanna make sure I level my stats well so nothing goes wasted. Thinking maybe 40int, 18 faith, 30 endurance, and rest in vitality and attunement? Only enough str/dex to wield my estoc or weapon of choice?

Even after DS1 and BB platinum trophies, I just can't parry. This is my story with Souls games.

    Posted: 31 Mar 2020 07:29 AM PDT

I just can't parry. I don't try it consistently nor even think about the possibility. I've just got the platinum trophy for DS1 and conquered the BB one as well some years ago, but I'm a simple player, far from git gud: sword and shield, dodge and hit. Barely use any magic. I prefer to play offline and solo. Damn, after finishing DeS and BB I didn't even know one could summon players and NPCs! I define myself as a "survivor Souls player".

I created a Reddit account for sharing my Souls games personal story, please "hear" it now.

    - Demon's Souls (played it around 2011). I love medieval fantasy, so decided to try it. The game made me horribly anxious and physically ill and tense. I got to finish it by relying heavily on bosses glitches and Wiki. This kept me far away from DS1 and DS2. My memories of this game are much less meaningful. I think about fixing this by playing the game again!

    - Bloodborne (played it at 2015, launch window. Again at 2017). The game seemed different, faster, more appropriate for a "dodge n' hit guy". And I was right! BB is still my favorite Souls experience because I finished it by myself, using (almost) no online hints. It took me about 5 hours to get to Gascogne (I unknowingly skipped the Clerical Beast). After that I went to Old Yharnam and struggled soooooo much with the Blood Starved Beast that I had DeS symptoms and almost gave up. But then I saw one simple hint on an online forum: dodge towards the Beast, not away from it… and at that moment I realized I've been playing Souls games wrong. Anxiety ceased, I beat the Beast and when I minced Vicar Amelia without any effort I knew I could play Bloodborne with my own strength and resilience. Defeated some bosses first try, died once for some others (including the witches! XD). I never understood how some people say BB is more difficult than DS1. It was a fulfilling experience as Souls games are meant to be. I returned to the game 2 years later with platinum trophy intentions and loved the heck out of it.

    - Dark Souls (late 2015. Again at 2020). So, I prevailed over BB and got the gist of the combat. Logically, I was ready for DS1, right? Right? No, I wasn't. Ornstein and Smough destroyed me and I ran away crying for some jolly cooperation for the first time! From that point on, Wiki was always by me side, every step. Gwyn forced me to coop again – because, well, I can't parry. DS1 has the best level design (because I love metroidvania interconnected design) and great atmosphere, but I didn't get as great a experience out of it. I replayed DS3 last November, so I decided to go on and try DS Remastered. It was completely different for me! I was solo adventuring down through memory hell… just to realize that those boogeymen aren't so scary. The horrifying basilisks die so easily they never got the chance to curse me. I didn't die going through the Depths and only once on Remastered-Blighttown due to a jumping mistake. Gaping Dragon seemed so… easy… he got to hit me just because I was greedy and sometimes got too close to him. O&S are just a matter of patience. The game feels cheap at some points, but not driving-crazy-difficult, which gave me "praise the sun" vibes and feel a bit more ambitious and go for platinum! I still don't parry Gwyn, but dodge-away-and-shoot-an-arrow (repeat 30 times) was enough for that fight! Artorias of the Abyss was new for me. Artorias and Kalameet were like huge stone walls for me… until I internalized the idea of "just don't get hit". For Artorias I saw that my shield wasn't enough for his huge damage output. So I went two hands and dodged ALWAYS to the right. Bang, he's down, just like that! Kalameet was my last boss and I thought it was disproportional to everything else. But, hey, learn to avoid the fire, get close to him and enjoy some clear windows to mince his neck or legs. That's something I love about the Souls games, the change in our perception: suddenly, the impossible became a matter of trying just a few times more.

    - Dark Souls 3 (late 2016, again at 2019). It felt so different from DS1. Faster, simpler (ouch, more linear!). It took me longer to die. Killed bosses at first or second try. It was even a comfortable game. Ha! Then I got to Irythill of the Boreal Valley and, hey, what an insane difficulty spike! I had to run for jolly cooperation for Pontiff Sulyvahn and we just chopped him to pieces. It feels so cheap. Next, Aldritch took me hours of desperation, but I got him down (solo was the way to go, people died too fast at that fight). Game destabilized me, but I still finished it. By 2019 I played the game again: I though: "well, it's about time I learn some parrying", but I hadn't the patience and gave it up soon. Sullyvahn wasn't difficult at all, but I still needed summons to fight the princes and Soul of Cinder. I still haven't beat Friede, nor played The Ringed City. I won't try to platinum it because of the unfair need to up-rank some convenants. Grinding isn't my thing. DS3 is a very good Souls game with maybe too much déjà vu feelings. Being a simpler game makes it both better and worse.

    - Sekiro (2019, day one!). This for me is the most difficult one. It's the only Souls game that is totally "git gud": you can't simply level up until you're a killing machine (for example, last month I defeated Manus in AotA first try not because of tactics or skill, but because I was around sl 100 and managed to outlive him). In Sekiro I still didn't even try parrying. In a game that's all about parrying! I love how the game opens its paths and lets the player explore a lot (Jumping Souls. Grapling Souls. Love it!). I did everything I could before the bottleneck boss fight: Genishiro. It was a brick wall! I tried to hurt him for two hours, I even tried some new Combat Arts, but it was all futile. Then I finally understood and accepted I had to change the strategy and spent one hour trying and learning to parry him. And I finally won. It was then that it clicked on me how wrong I had been playing Sekiro, but I was already somewhat close to the end of the game. When I play Sekiro again, maybe on PS5, I intend to really go for parrying!

I played Nioh and Salt and Sanctuary and - specially - Hollow Knight, which came to be among my 10 favorite games of all time. I'm really happy DeS started a subgenre.

After all this, my conclusion is this: the Soul games are about creating remarkable and meaningful memories. Those experiences really linger on the players mind and heart.

P.S.: Hey, what about DS2? Well, never played it. Reasons.

    - I stated I love the metroidvania design. Every opinion I see about DS2 says It has poor and linear level design (the sense of exploration is one of my favorite things in gaming).

    - I also see a lot of people saying how the game is lazy about difficulty mechanics. They say the game believes that being difficult means to punish the player by ganking him with mobs. Abusing multiple bosses. Abusing poison areas. Poor hitboxes.

So, what do you say? Now that you know my story and style, is DS2 any worth for me?

Dark wood grain ring and if I should use it

    Posted: 31 Mar 2020 07:29 AM PDT

So I'm getting dark wood grain ring in a few days. I'll get it cus I'm not playing rn but when I get it I'm unsure on if I should change my set up to use it or just to continue. I use mask of the child. Rest of my armor is smoughs set. Bk greatsword +5. Artorias shield. Pyro glove +15. Talisman.

Like I've heard from friends that it's better than the best armor but I mean I'm on seath and nito in ng+ and they don't give great dodging opportunities. So I'm gunna get it no doubt but for ng+2 should I use it for like Taurus. Asylum. Quallegg. Bell gargoyle. Stray. 4 kings. Bed of chaos. ( boc is definite cus it's like all about movement) sif. Stray. Artorias. Manus. Ect

I just beat Gaping Dragon on my second try!

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 08:17 PM PDT

I don't gather that he's one of the harder bosses around, I mean his patterns were super predictable and he only gained one new attack after half health that he only used once and wasn't at all difficult to deal with either, but I am a first timer so I felt like saying something nonetheless. I didn't use a guide of course, and I hadn't even so much as heard this boss's name before. 100% blind.

Oh and I beat Pinwheel first try a little while ago. I heard many times before fighting him that he was easy, but I didn't know what his gimmick was going in so I guess I'll mention that one too since it was still a blind fight, though I'm aware that's not a super impressive "first try" boss.

[SPOILER] Why there is no "good" ending?

    Posted: 31 Mar 2020 05:43 AM PDT

Hello, I am quite new to Dark Souls, I played only first one and I love it! But I have some questions about lore and endings.

In my understanding there is light which represents life and dark which represents death, so logically light should be "good" because it represents life, humanity etc..

We can choose ending between link the fire and the dark lord, why is not link the fire considered as good ending? Because fire produces light which is considered as life, and as we know the dark lord is dark side so it represents death.

If we link the fire it will temporarily "boost" light and life in the world, but it can be enough while there comes another chosen undead who will sacrifices himself for the light, so we can "support" light and life, so this should be good ending right?

Why someone consider going to dark side as good ending? In the dark side there is no light, no life, no humanity, nothing, only undead and hollow.

Another interesting question why you have to kill Gwyn, and why Gwyn is enemy to you, as far as I know Gwyn is lord of the sun/light, so he wants life and humanity, his son Solaire of Astora too, so they should be considered as "good" characters, and they are against dark, hollow, death.. And you as chosen undead you are killing undead hollow enemies, so you should be on same side as light/life where is Gwyn and Solaire of Astora, so I wonder why you have to kill Gwyn if he is against dark, so he should be your friend.

4K is gonna be mine today!! Stream part 2

    Posted: 31 Mar 2020 05:12 AM PDT

    Hi everyone!!

It's been a month since my 24hrs sitting at dark souls and my 3hr battles against 4K (or something like that) . Honestly hate him (them) from the bottom of my heart but couldn't get myself to play since then.

    Today is the day!!

Can I ask again for some tips on him? Hopefully I can beat him fairy quickly so I can advance further in the game. Will keep playing with my current setup which is basically no armor and Zweihander (i think thats how its called).

Will be streaming it again as it was fun for most of the time and if anyone wants to watch, feel free to pop in and have a laugh, especially now in these mad times. If you have any ideas how I could make this more entertaining for ourselves, let me know. 😁

To everyone who helped me the last time and can read this, please lend me your strength again!

Stay safe and healthy and dont praise the sun (only this time though) as we cant go out. 😂

    Will start around 5:30pm GMT+1 I think

I'm sad to admit but I am stuck on Capra

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 09:27 AM PDT

So when I first played Dark Souls back on 360 I beat him pretty easily. I got Remastered for my B-day last year and now no matter what tactic or tricks I have up my sleeve I keep getting slapped. I've tried the bomb over the wall glitch but it has proven to be useless as he just gives me the business. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions? Anything will help at this point.

    Sens fortress skip Logan

    Posted: 31 Mar 2020 04:16 AM PDT

So decided to make a caster build and was going to do the sens fortress skip to get Logan and all the soul items there to power level int. Did the skip, got the souls, Logan freed and dialogue exhausted then exited back to the last bonfire expecting Logan to now be at firelink like he normally is in a legit run but for some reason he didn't show. Are there other requirements for Logan to appear in firelink besides just freeing him or does sequence breaking the game not work for getting him in firelink faster?
