Welcome to the weekly Dark Souls mod announcement and discussion thread!

Beware! Use of mods whilst connected to the internet can cause you to get banned from online play!

For more information, or to continue the discussion visit /r/ModSouls

Using mods (PC only!) to enhance or add new content to the Souls games is great fun! It is important, however, to understand that mods are against From's EULA/ToS, so there is a great risk of being banned when using them due to From's anti-cheat--which is deployed in most versions of the Souls games.

Versions of the games where modding is safe due to no anti-cheat:

Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition

Versions of the games where modding carries a very high risk of being banned:

    Dark Souls: Remastered

    Dark Souls II

Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin

    Dark Souls III

    Our recommendations for safe modding

*This advice is intended for first-time or relatively inexperienced modders who want to get into modding without risking a ban on their main Steam account.

    Basic Steps:

    Make a separate Steam account

Use Steam's Family Sharing feature to provide your new account with access to your main Steam account's game library.

Install games to be used with the new account in a separate directory.

Once you've found your mods be sure to read (and follow) the mod author's instructions carefully prior to installation.

Set Steam to "off line" mode.

Install the mods and perform any necessary setup.

Enjoy the fun and interesting experiences offered by mods!

Be sure to remove all file components of the mod before going back online!

    My Journey Begins

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 10:53 PM PDT

I have finally picked up Dark Souls 2. In the first game, my Chosen Undead was Brynbehrt, the predecessor of the Forgotten Pygmy. Although he was weak, he made many friends along his journey before he sacrificed himself to the flame. His life was tragic, with Solaire dying, him accidentally killing Quelanna, killing Priscilla, and ultimately failing his human companion Verdandi. He had failed everybody, especially Verdandi. Killing Gwyn was a near impossible task, until his will to win birthed a heavy armor in him that he summoned forth: The Dark Iron Armor. This armor made his poise skyrocket, and even the Old God could not cause him to fall. Brynbehrt believed fate was inescapable after everything he had been through. However, as he sacrificed himself to the Flame, the Flame spoke to him. It thanked him for his sacrifice, and asked him if it could grant him one wish. Brynbehrt knew his wish immediately.

Brynbehrt was brought back to the beginning, now as strong as he was when he had fought and killed Gwyn. With all his memories of the prior events, he worked tirelessly to save his friends. He saved Verdandi, who he had previously practically left for dead because he could barely lift his massive Greatsword. He saved Solaire, his brother in arms. He saved all his previous companions. And gathering them all, he set siege to Anor Londo, betraying the old gods and laying conquest to everyone in his path. When the final battle came, Brynbehrt had mastered his Dark Iron Armor, and he could now battle alongside Solaire, who had given him his faith. The battle was even harder than last time, both powerful fighters barely hanging on by a thread. In the end, destiny was defied, and Brynbehrt struck Gwyn down with the very bolts he had created. With Solaire and Verdandi alive and by his side, Brynbehrt took the throne and became the new ruler of Lordran, ushering in the Age of Man.

Now, after many years, Verdandi has grown up. On a quest to secure the remaining nations and rule alongside Brynbehrt, Verdandi washes up on the shores of Drangleic, now an undead for many years. She remembers of her quest from a bunch of fire keepers, and sets off to liberate this land of their old rulers to continue the push towards the Age of Man.

(This is my own personal story that I made up while playing the games. I just get pumped when I can write stories while playing games)

You have got to be kidding me, you can headshot?!

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 12:34 AM PDT

Seriously. Grab your wand, grab your binoculars, and try it: headshots have a damage bonus. Is this a DS2 thing or is it in all the games?

Platinum baby. Thank you RNG Gods.

Finally after what seemed like an eternity of farming sunlight medals. I managed to get 12 in about an hour of grinding. The previous 18 took god knows how long. Now just DS3 to go and all souls games will be platinumed.

    quite something...

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 02:05 AM PDT

I’ve only played this game for a couple months, but there’s something about the Majula theme that invokes a sense of... nostalgia in me somehow.

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 03:39 PM PDT

I love all three games very much, but there's just... there's an emotion... a feeling that's present in 2 but isn't present in 1 or 3. And somehow Majula captures this feeling perfectly.

I have nothing to feel nostalgic about in this game. I've beaten it once it's practically still new to me. And yet I come back to Majula and feel like I've been playing this game for ages. Like it's a childhood favorite.

I don't know if maybe I'm just crazy, but I swear Majula is proof that there must be real magic because I don't know how it could be anything else.

    Are Loyce Knights Lizards?

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 10:25 AM PDT

So I was thinking the other day about the impossible dimensions of the NPC Loyce Knight's Helmet. The neck is very long and thin and the space for the head is also very elongated and thin, impossible dimensions for a human.

    https://darksouls2.wiki.fextralife.com/file/Dark-Souls-2/cotik_npc_loyce_knight.png

That's when it hit me, those dimensions are pretty close to the body proportions of a Flexile Sentry (if it was not a conjoined twin). It even explains why the eye slit extends so far to the side, because the lizard-like Flexile Sentries have their eyes positioned further apart on the side of their heads.

    https://pm1.narvii.com/6280/38eb337107f62af14f9c90a8f2dd08b2410bc8a1_00.jpg

That kinda piggy backs on my theory that the source of all Flexile Sentries is Eleum Loyce. Two escorted the Lost Sinner (a former high priestess as she is missing an eye) from Eleum Loyce to the Lost Bastille and then had to remain at the prison with her. This frustration of not being able to return home led them to start torturing undead at the Bastille for funsies. So "normal" lizardmen would be loyce knights, and those lizardmen that split at the torso for... some reason... are sentries.

    Fuck frigid outskirts

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 11:07 PM PDT

I think I got all the bosses in my first run but fuck those horses. Fuck them straight to hell. I always play it while drinking and tonight I had enough. I started new game+ knowing I left those two cats alive. A blow to my hollow souls' ego.

I've finally finished DS2 (SotFS) for the first time! I almost went hollow one time...

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 01:52 PM PDT

So I finally finished this game (solo), I'm first-time DS2 player and only finished DS:R right before it. DS2 took me cca 90 hours of playtime and in the end I reached level 190, which is probably higher than average (I played normally safe for gaining few levels by beating the Giant Lord 2nd time). I'm not 100 % finished, I have 3 (I think) optional bosses remaining (Alonne, blue Smelter and Frigid Outskirts). I'll probably do them, too, but I'll take some time off now, probably.

Going almost straight from DS:R to DS2 was weird on so many levels even though I knew the game is different. Controls felt different, I got my ass kicked by almost anyone in the game for couple hours. It got better, of course. I got used to the game, leveled up some.

What I really appreciate about this game that is has sooo many very different areas and all of them are unique in their theme, layout (well, mostly), enemies. That is really awesome. Probably the worst was Shrine of Amana (I know is generally considered one of the most annoying places in DS2). Now I really can't think of a zone that was really memorable except for Heide's - not that it is any special, but it's really interesting level design (at least in comparison with DS1). I really liked the Old Iron King and Ivory King DLCs. Sunken King was OK (but read next).

I found almost all bosses kinda easy in this game. With the exception of first Pursuer encounter, that fucker was hard (not that much when I fought him couple more times later). And I really liked the main DLC bosses.

Yes, Fume Knight is definitely one of the hardest. I beat him while wearing >! the Velstadt's helm so he triggers his second phase immediately (that felt much easier in the end because I could concentrate on much smaller moveset)!<. By that point I already had the Greatsword +10.

Fuck Elana. Sinh was nice, took me some time but it was a dragon fight I enjoyed. Other dragons in the game (or DS1 for that matter) are either stupid or fucking hard.

The Ivory King fight was really interesting. I had all of the knights to help me so that made the fight a bit easier. It took me 3 or 4 tries, I really can't remember now. And it was a really nice touch after playing DS1. Also the Vendrick speach after all DLCs...

About that hollow thing I mentioned... After about 70 hours of gameplay (cca 3 months back) I had enough, the game basically pissed me off more than I enjoyed it. For one, I played really often up to that point, for another, it was after the Shrine of fucking Amana, that really sucked, so other even minor annoying parts of the game just added to the frustration. I reached the Crown of The Sunken King DLC, and I don't like these poisonous areas, either. Well, I probably wouldn't be bothered by poison that much, but after all these things I just didn't enjoy the game. I took some time off but thoughts about the game and how I should complete it (I really wanted tbh because I want to play BB and DS3 after it) kept coming back. It was a weird kind of self-pressure and I didn't know how to escape from it. In the end I even wrote a miserable post on this sub, basically whining I don't know what to do. Well, no big reveal here, about 4 people responded, all of them basically saying "just take some time off" or "you are not good enough for this game". Nothing overly dramatic, but they all just had a point. And maybe that was exactly what I needed - to hear it from someone else. So I just let go of the self-pressure. I said to myself, it doesn't matter, I just won't bother with it and let it all play out itself... After few weeks, I finally started to want to come back and beat the game. You already know how that ended :-).

    Question about champions convenant

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 10:13 AM PDT

(SotFS) I'm wanting to eventually farm 30 sunlight medals. I don't really play online, so I'll be farming them from enemies mostly, with perhaps the odd co-op if possible. I've seen that you can farm them from falconers, so that's my plan. I'd read that if you join the champion's covenant, they'll respawn indefinitely.

However, I'd also seen someone say that you won't even get sunlight medal drops if you're not a sunbro. Is this true? It would be unfortunate to not be able to take advantage of infinite respawning enemies while farming these.

ps4 cross-play region? (Europe and Hong Kong)

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 06:00 AM PDT

My friend and I wanted to play ds2 sotf together but our summonings have failed every single time (summoning sign has disappeared). I suspect it's because of the distance between hong kong and the Netherlands but do you guys know anything about this?

We have cross-play set to allowed and both of us have been summoned many times by "local" multiplayer people. Only when we try to summon one another it doesn't work.

Is ps4 ds2 multiplayer with distance impossible?

I used to get invaded quite a lot and used to enjoy fighting other players but never invaded other people. My current save is in NG+ LVL170 and I'm just about to fight demon of song, what would the best way for me to PvP?
