Welcome to the weekly Dark Souls mod announcement and discussion thread!

Beware! Use of mods whilst connected to the internet can cause you to get banned from online play!

For more information, or to continue the discussion visit /r/ModSouls

Using mods (PC only!) to enhance or add new content to the Souls games is great fun! It is important, however, to understand that mods are against From's EULA/ToS, so there is a great risk of being banned when using them due to From's anti-cheat--which is deployed in most versions of the Souls games.

Versions of the games where modding is safe due to no anti-cheat:

Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition

Versions of the games where modding carries a very high risk of being banned:

    Dark Souls: Remastered

    Dark Souls II

Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin

    Dark Souls III

    Our recommendations for safe modding

*This advice is intended for first-time or relatively inexperienced modders who want to get into modding without risking a ban on their main Steam account.

    Basic Steps:

    Make a separate Steam account

Use Steam's Family Sharing feature to provide your new account with access to your main Steam account's game library.

Install games to be used with the new account in a separate directory.

Once you've found your mods be sure to read (and follow) the mod author's instructions carefully prior to installation.

Set Steam to "off line" mode.

Install the mods and perform any necessary setup.

Enjoy the fun and interesting experiences offered by mods!

Be sure to remove all file components of the mod before going back online!

The Armor Clanking In This Game Is One Of The Best Sounds Ever.

Seriously, it's such a therapeutic sound. When I wear armor without it, it just doesn't feel right.

So this guy invades me in oolacile township and he had no idea what he was getting into.

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 01:12 AM PDT

I am level 513 and like to wear full haval using claymore and weed crest shield. I never expect it but on rare occasions when I am in the township I get invaded. So this man runs up to me and starts fighting me . he never realized how underlevelled he was until I fast rolled to dodge a black flame from him. He was so shocked he just stood there and I died laughing. Sent him away with some gifts. I think a fast rolling havel would be terrifying. Wish I could have recorded it.

Following up our grand conquering of the bed of chaos we decided to take on the DLC. I'm much less familiar with this so it was a tiny bit of a struggle nothing over 2 or 3 trys. We plow on through the dlc and get down to manus. He gives us a pretty good run for our money but as we are Co-oping we can take the aggro off eachother when we need to heal. Together we beat manus on our first try. It was very intense and got our hearts racing but in the end manus couldn't beat the companionship of sunbros. (All of this was done because she wanted to see Sifs sad cutscene) <3

6 years later and still discovering new things.

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 10:36 PM PDT

So, doing the college thing, studying and staying focused on what matters. After finishing a quiz I've been studying for, for the last 4 days straight, decided to get a bit of dark souls in. Going through the Painted World the best I can with my glass canon magic build. Managed to take out the Waifu dragon with a enchanted Uchi, which took forever to knock her out of invisibility. Guess she has high magic resistance! Got her tail too! Making my way to the end and I completely forgot to pick up the ear swab! Not a big deal I'll just bone back and.... oh no.. why am I at the bonfire by the fire keeper? Well not too far of a walk. Oh. The elevator. No switch... well I got fall control... nope. Cant make that jump. Sigh... gotta go the long way around and face my fear of heights!

Oh! Also found that warrior soul off behind those two graves hidden away in that hideout for the first time!

Anyway, this was my first time posting an experience here to this subreddit. Always enjoyed the stories I've read and want to thank y'all. Praise the sun... or drink their blood...? Pvpers? I guess? Anyway, stay positive during these troubles, Skeleton!

    Calling All Cosplayers

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 02:20 AM PDT

Since the quarantine began I've been playing a sl25 build of xanthous king jeremiah in the undead parish areas on dsr: switch edition, warding off red spirits with the fires of justice, hiyaaaaa

I ran into a few other lore/cosplay builds, namely Izalith, Lloyd, McLoyf, Leeroy, a dozen Solaires, an Iron Golem and a Gwyndolin.

Can we make this a thing? I want to see as many lore/cosplay builds as possible doing coop and pvp in the undead parish in the weeks to come.

I just lost my DSR Faith Character to a blackout on PC.

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 12:07 AM PDT

I am actually livid right now. Just recently, I managed to reach +1 on Darkmoon offline and got the best Faith Talisman for my build, and headed for Painted World to farm the Phalanx for higher faith. During the middle of said farm, I had a blackout. Got it fixed, decided to take a small break to ready myself for the farm.

...Then I got back on, and noticed my character was reverted to when they were about to head out of Firelink at level god-damned TWO. I can't even. All that progress, undone. I was genuinely enjoying my experience, but... It's all undone, and if I got back up, it could happen again. FML.

EDIT: Nobody has asked yet, but here's the Mugenmonkey of the build I was making. http://mmdks.com/a0tr

EDIT 2: I have made a new character in the place of that one so I can freshen up the appearance a little. I thank u/_notbader for attempting to help. I made this as a sort of vent for my frustration so I could cool off and get a level head. This time, I won't rush it as much, and actually help people at Gargoyles so I can get the better Lighting Spear before the other stuff for ease of play.

I kinda mostly go in the semi-nude to have much stamina

Any suggestions what to wear? The Havel I tried, got killed by clams behind the fogwall in two hits, haven't tried it on Seath himself yet

Suggestions? I think I can kill him easy

Is there any explanation as to why plin plin plon is sad?

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 05:14 AM PDT

first time i've ever heard it was in a meme and i thought it was a funny music. then when i searched for the original i found it was from Dark Souls and all the fans felt like it was very sad, and then i felt the same.

i know it's linked to a boss fight against someone named Gwen or whatever, but is there any reason as to why it is sad? is it just sad because it feels sad or is there more going on with that Gwen dude? i dont know jack shit about the Dark Souls franchise but im willing to learn about its lore and maybe get the games cuz i love the dark fantasy stuff.

    thanks in advance :D

Dark souls remastered completed! The thoughts on the game of who played DS3 first.

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 04:32 AM PDT

Wow! I was starting to play Bloodborne but when I saw DSR on sales I bought it and didn't play nothing else during 1 week, until I now that I finally completed it. Played as a pyromancer and finished at level 86.

I saw a lot of people reacting to DS3 that played DS1 first and they looked like they where "seeing the future" of the game they played. For me it was the opposite, since I played DS3 first I was "living all the tales and legends that I've heard". Like the O&S fight in the same place Aldrich's was, the legend of Artorias, meeting Nito, Gwyn and witch of Izalith...

Probably the thing I got most disappointing with were the bosses, a lot of them looked "failed experiments" like Seath or Centipede demon. And the difficulty of the bosses disappointed me too, in DS3 almost every boss was a challenge, here the big majority went down in 1 try, the ones that didn't only took a few tries. The only boss that gave trouble was Kalameet, and he finally revived that feeling I felt in DS3.

I also noticed that in DS3 they improved the "ideas of some bosses from DS1": like the crystal sage I see it like an improvement of pinwheel and the old demon king an improvement of all big demon reskins in DS1.

But to compensate the bosses the levels were amazing, in DS3 I never felt the concept of a level,a lot of the areas were open places with buildings and enemies spread ( like Farron keep, undead settlement, road of sacrifices) and other were super linear ( like Irithyll, profaned capital, Lothric castle) also in DS3 here were too much bonfires.

In the remastered I really felt the concept of a level, when I found a bonfire it was always felt that "safety", and every enemy in the map was put there for a reason, like the archer well positioned, high quantity of week enemies to not let people runpass... and the level design was amazing too, everything connected to firelink and shortcuts everywhere.

    In my opinion:

Hardest bosses-1) Kalameet- he finally made feel that concept of difficulty that was lost in since I beat Gael and Midir for the 1st time

-2) Manus- although I didn't die too much to him, his combos were hard to dodge and the fight was big, although he deals little damage. -3) Four kings- they are the "DPS" test and they were the 1st lord I killed (and I was a pyromancer) so I had to dela with 3 of the, at the same time

Best bosses- 1)Manus-hard and fair challenge, cool moves, amazing lore. Only Gael beats him in my favourites of the series

-2)Kalameet-i already explained this one -3)O&S- they didn't disappoint, although I think their difficulty is super overrated. But cool duo fight against 2 completely different enemies.

Most disappointing boss- Gwyn-(1st, no I didn't parry, neither used a shield) This boss was super easy for the final boss, He had very little HP and his attacks were super well telegraphed, I beat him with no problem, sadly.

Best areas-1)Duke's archives- Idk why people don't like this area, it looks amazing and different from all the other areas, the enemies are placed In very good spots, it's hard and brings new concepts, but the boss was other disappointing one.

-2)Anor Londo I've been here in DS3 but it looks super different here, the atmosphere is good and the enemies too. -3) Sen's fortresses, hard, big, new concepts, hard enemies. But once again disappointing boss at the end.

I feel that I have to talk about Artorias too, for me was a surprisingly easy boss, when I entered the arena I was thinking I was going to be stuck there, but no, he as low health and slow attacks, but was a cool boss too.

Thanks for reading, now is time to continue Bloodborne, since I stoped it for DSR.

First day on Dark Souls was amazing

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 04:31 PM PDT

I beat the Taurus Demon (which I didn't think I could) after 2 tries (but died twice along the way to him). Awesome. I then run down the stairs to meet the one and only, the Solaire of Astora. I had no idea where he was I thought he was much more late game. I was so happy. This game is a keeper

How to correctly drop kill a boss?

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 01:19 AM PDT

Hey, guys! Sometimes when I do the thing where you drop from a high place onto a boss the attack works and makes huge damage, but sometimes it doesn't. I'm playing on a PC, so do I drop first and then press the left mouse button when I'm on top of the boss or do I drop and immediately press the left mouse button at the same time? Thanks.

    Broken ragdolls

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 12:42 PM PDT

Am I the only one who finds ragdolls in the game (not only DS 1, it applies to all games) immersion breaking? Each time you walk into a dead body it behaves as if it barely had any weight or launches into the air. Are there any mods (for remastered) that change their behavior or disable ragoll physics once enemy drops dead?

DS1 is much harder than DS3

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 12:44 AM PDT

I just finished DS3 today and since it was my introduction to the series I love it. Having never played DS1 I bought it right after finishing 3. I noticed that it's a much slower game, which isn't a bad thing but coming off of a fast pace game it's very noticeable. I find that killing enemy's and managing health is much more difficult in this game. The flasks take much longer to use and enemy's seem much less forgiving. Maybe I just have to get used to the game. Does anyone else this DS1 is harder than DS3.
