If you think about it, the sanctuary guardian is technically the first boss we fight in the series. Chronologically anyways

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 08:18 AM PDT

The Asylum Demon is the first boss we fight. But because AOTA is set in the past and seconds after we are taken there we fight the Sanctuary Guardian. I saw this on a youtube comment whats kinda cool.

    Is Manus the Furtive Pygmy?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 09:05 PM PDT

Manus is the "Father of the Abyss," so he created the abyss. The Furtive Pygmy was the owner of the Dark Soul, and unleashed it when the fire began to fade. If the first appearance of the abyss was in AotA (because of Manus), doesn't that make Manus the Furtive Pygmy?

Also note that both were human. AND in the Chasm of the Abyss, we see a bunch of splintered humanity, and we know that the Furtive Pygmy split the Dark Soul for humans.

    Thoughts?

I have bested Dark Souls, and even in uncertain times, the fire is linked.

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 11:00 PM PDT

I'm sure we have all spent the better part of a week or a few (depending on where you are in the world) worried, doubtful, afraid, isolated, tentatively keeping track of ourselves and loved ones. I don't mean to trivialize the very issue(s) affecting humanity this very second, but upon completing Dark Souls for the first time, I found those feelings in all of the undead too.

I've been tackling this game for what seems like a long time. Things kept coming up in my personal life and career, but just as I hadn't hollowed on those paths, I knew I'd never hollow in Dark Souls. I'd bested Bloodborne and was no stranger to grit and perseverance necessary to find ones way in a From Software world, but this was a totally foreign experience, another thought provoking and methodical gameplay and world design to absorb and soak in. It can be hard to take it all in, just like persevering and pursuing our goals in the every day.

I soldiered on, every time I died to toxins in Blighttown, after each totally embarrassing jump into the Bed of Chaos, coming back to the fog wall after getting crushed into the gravel by Artorias' 360° slam. Though ever concerned for my vitality, my ability to handle this alone, insecure about my own ability, I kept thinking of my companions, stuck in Firelink Shrine, who I kept checking in on throughout my journey. Some of them were out in the world alone and needed a hand, which I tried to lend at every instance. Others proved themselves helpless, hollowed or absent. I tried not to judge them for that. They reminded me of people I have checked in on in the Firelink Shrine in my head these past weeks.

After picking up the game after a bit of a "vacation" from my vocation, I noticed so many phantoms running about, waving, fighting, sitting at bonfires, trying to think about something other than the present danger. I felt something in so many of them present at once, being there all at once, presenting a valiant effort by so many not to go hollow, at the bonfire or at home.

It's been written many times before that this game is chock full of metaphors for depression, loneliness, apathy, and I can absolutely identify with that sentiment now. However, seeing that world awake with souls that are in a very relatable position on the outside, confined to Lordran, starting in a small, dark prison, and after many efforts and failures, reaching the birth of that struggle and owning it...I felt something there that revitalized my attitude, even just a little bit.

This is a truly magnificent game, and I'm looking forward to the others.

I'll be seeing you then. Be careful out there. None of us want to see you go hollow.

    Killing every single NPC

    Posted: 25 Mar 2020 12:14 AM PDT

Hey, currently doing a run where I BONK all friendly NPCs by my own hand, and whilst planning the order of things I realised I may have an issue killing both Sieglinde and Siegmeyer. Anyone have any insight on when I should kill each one?

Need viable sorcerer guide step by step

    Posted: 25 Mar 2020 03:13 AM PDT

I finally decided to play a sorcerer in the DS1. Can you please tell me step by step what should I do, because I'm afraid to fk it up, don't wanna create a new character again.

How should I allocate my stats? I know it's recommended int + dex, but I also need some hp, attunement and endurance. So just tell me the exact order with details like "first get int to X, then hp to X, then back to int, then dex to X".

Should I upgrade my starting catalyst? How long should I use it? And what should I swap it with at what part of the game? If I upgrade my starting catalyst, it will probably increase the physical dmg of it, instead of magical, no? I heard there's a blacksmith that can make your weapon magical, do I need him in order to upgrade my catalyst? Sorry I really don't know. I need step by step explanation please, what and when should I do. I don't even know at what point of the game will I be able to meet a needed blacksmith and upgrade my weapons for a magical damage. Some say it's much later in the game, but what should I use before that?

What melee and magical weapon should I use? When I upgrade it? With what magic element? I can get claymore, uchi and zwei early, and something else. What should I pick? Do I need to upgrade its phys dmg or wait till I will be able to create a magical weapon with it?

Some people on some old 2016 forum recommended a zweihander for an early sorcerer! How is it possible? It requires a lot of str for a sorcerer, this class simply can't afford it, it would be a waste, no?

And please don't tell me to go to a random high level area like getting that crown from a golden golem like everybody recommends, I'm not going to run god knows where early, I'm not acquainted with the game yet.

I need more games similar to darks souls/Bloodborne!

    Posted: 25 Mar 2020 12:55 AM PDT

So over the past 2 years I've picked up a few FromSoft games and at first hated it. I thought DS3 was harder than any game before and not only that, I had no idea what I should be doing/going. I had to take a break and a few weeks went on and I took to YouTube to figure out what exactly is the goal in this game and how I should get better. Since then I've fallen in love with these types of the games. The combat, the leveling system and the lore, I need more of it. Below is a list of games I've played, and more than likely 100% all trophies.

DS remaster, DS2 Sotfs, DS3, Bloodborne, Nioh, Code vein, Sekiro

I will by buying Nioh 2 shortly, and still of the fence about The Surge. Any opinions to other games I can pick up similar to these ones?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 06:59 PM PDT

I started playing dark souls recently after my brother told me to and I just got to those two bosses. I have spent almost an hour trying to kill them, but when I kill one the other absorbs it's power and I just die, and tips?

Encountering Rhea and her two dudes at the Firelink cemetery, when does this happen?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 10:56 PM PDT

Found this on my screenshot folder for DS1 but I have no memory of ever having found them in the cemetery behind Firelink. Clearly I must have thought it was weird back then too if I took a screenshot of it, I've played well over a thousand hours of DS1 over the years and I don't remember this.

Seems to be right after they leave Petrus and before heading into the Catacombs, anyone know how to trigger this encounter?

is dark souls 1 just as good as the other games?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 06:57 PM PDT

so i completed the newer titles (bloodborne, dark souls 3 and sekiro) and now all i have left are the older titles. the thing is though im kind of hesitant on getting the 1st dark souls because while its the most revered soulsborne game by the community and has the biggest reputation of them all, im kind of worried i might not enjoy it as much as the others. i have heard it has slower combat, no warping in the first half and its harder to navigate and less quality of life features, hearing those makes me want to not get it, yet at the same time its the game with the most praise.

so should i buy dark souls?

The guy who trolled me in Anor Londo, sorry I sweared you a little bit. :)

    Posted: 25 Mar 2020 04:07 AM PDT

It happened a few weeks ago, on my first run of DS1. I reached Anor Londo and went down using the elevator, killed Gargoyle and couldn't find the way. The middle bridge wasn't turned towards me and I searched all of Anor Londo to find how to turn it. I didn't know that I had to go to Monastery from left.

After about 10 minutes of wandering around, I decided to take a look at messages, most of them were "try jumping". I knew they were trolling but one of them caught me, it was hilarious. It was saying "try ghost".

I didn't anything know anything about ghosts back then and I only saw the item called Transient Curse in Firelink Shrine. Since it allows you to interact with ghosts, I thought ghosts would carry me to the bridge or turn the bridge for me.

So I walked back to Sen's Fortress then Firelink, bought some Transient Curses and walked back to Anor Londo again. It took me like half an hour or more of walking time.

Then I walked to bridge again and used a Transient Curse near the message but nothing happened. I got really angry and sweared to anyone who wrote this message. Then found the way eventually.

    Edit: typo

I love that community, we always find a way to make fun of things. :)

    Posted: 25 Mar 2020 03:34 AM PDT

Aight so i killed the stupid moonlight butterfly. What do i do next which order should i go? I mean there's blighttown, valley of drakes, new londo ruins and the catacombs. And there is that area with a big tentacle thing in the background that shoots waves and there's crystals everywhere should i go there? Also when in the game does sif come cus im really looking forward to it. Also what is the best weapon archetype? Why is there no travel option? Why is firelink shrine called firelink shrine when it looks nothing like DS3 firelink shrine (i know this is the original)? How can i make boss weapons? That is all

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 07:13 PM PDT

I've seen three total in my many playthroughs, but I finally killed one! It was in the Anor Londo cathedral opposite of the O&S Boss doors. Right next to the broken window that lets you get an item on the ledges.

    I killed it, yay!

    Good Greatsword Build?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 04:11 PM PDT

Hi all. I'm fairly new to the dark souls community, and I just want to say... I LOVE IT!!! I've finally gotten around to AotA and was in awe of Artorias. I've looked at some videos that say Artorias builds aren't all that viable, so I was wondering if there are any good ideas for a greatsword build.
