I JUST BEAT ORNSTEIN & SMOUGH FOR THE FIRST TIME SOLO!

    Posted: 25 Mar 2020 02:42 PM PDT

As someone who's played both Bloodborne & DS3 multiple times over, I finally got a chance to play DS:R, and after multiple attempts, I finally beat O&S solo! I found that due to my quick rolling and aggressive playstyle coming from DS3 & BB that Super Ornstein was a much easier boss than Super Smough, because I could hug his legs and not get hit too many times.

One of the best bosses in videogame history, and I can't wait to see what the rest of the game has in store.

    I finally finished dark souls

    Posted: 25 Mar 2020 06:29 AM PDT

    Hi everyone!

I did it, I finished Dark souls. When I say I finished it, I don't only talk about killing Gwyn.

I got all achievements done !

    https://imgur.com/uvx1B5R

I am beyond than excited. And at the same time, there's something weird... what now ? I reached my goal after rage quitting a few years ago. When I first got the game, I stopped at the first bridge before undead burg, not really "getting" the game.

Maybe a part of this was that I own DS Prepare to die edition and I first tried to play with a keyboard and a mouse.

Early december 2019 I tried again, with a xbox controller this time, and it clicked. I enjoyed every minute I spent on it (140h played).

Time to play DS2 and DS3 now, but I already know I will come back to DS1 later, since I would like to try a magic oriented character.

Thanks a lot to everyone on this community who helped me progress when I was stuck !

Why does everyone hate the Capra Demon?

    Posted: 25 Mar 2020 10:47 PM PDT

I don't understand. It seemed like he was the easiest boss I've ever fought in a Souls game... I walked in, kicked his ass, and moved on. Did I get lucky? Like no joke I don't know if he even hit me once. I've never even finished DS1 and have had immense difficulty with bosses some consider easy but people seem to HATE the Capra Demon for some reason I can't understand.

Just had a second go on DS1, Artorius is def the hardest boss

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 12:40 AM PDT

Idk what it is about him, maybe it's the varying windup times to his move set, but as someone who rarely uses heavy armor and high STR weapons, he consecutively gave me 10+ runs. He has consistently been very difficult for me, while Kalameet was a 1 banger and Manus took 3 tries. I thought that this was interesting, figured I would share it here to hear any opinions on how to make the fight easier.

    O&S is impossible for me...

    Posted: 25 Mar 2020 05:22 PM PDT

This fucking boss fight man. I see all these fucking pros be like "ah it's actually easy you see." Nah man, this shit hard as fuck. Ornstein fucking auto aims me and his big bro is fucking always on his ass ready to butt fuck me with that big ass hammer. I've tried splitting up but that fat ass smough is a fast son of a bitch... not to mention my attacks with the fury sword do fucking zero damage! Damn I've just spent that last 4 hours dying nonstop to these guys. I'm... about... dead...

    Kalameet Strategy?

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 03:27 AM PDT

Just got past Artorias, he wasn't that hard but I'm stuck on Kalameet. The lowest I've brought him to was about 60%, I don't know how I'm going to do this because his attacks are so brutal which keep knocking me down and he's the tankiest thing since the Stray Demon. Definitely the hardest boss I have fought so far :(

Using a +13 Halberd, +10 Grass Crest Shield, Ring Of FAP and Havel's Ring.

Any optimal armor I should know about? How do I dodge his melee attacks up close? Any tips I should know about? Fast roll or should I just tank his hits? Lock-on or no?

And yes, I asked for Gough's help with the cutscene.

Playing for the first time blind but I have a couple questions about multiplayer!

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 01:41 AM PDT

Hi gang. I posted a question about Dark Souls elsewhere and I was convinced by people in that thread that I shouldn't be shy about asking here. I am playing Dark Souls Remastered on my Switch to pass the time while quarantined. I'm loving it! It sort of reminds me of SMT Nocturne and the very first original Tomb Raider, which are two of my favorite games, while at the same time being not much like anything I've really played before.

As is my usual procedure I am trying to avoid too much in the way of advice/walkthroughs as much as I can help it -- this actually works very well in Dark Souls because the bloodstain ghosts and notes people leave are just exactly enough hints. But some details about how multiplayer works are somewhat obscure to me, so I wanted to ask.

I have just gotten to the Darkroot Garden after ringing the bell in the church. When I fought the gargoyles on the roof, I summoned Solaire to help me -- which I found a little disappointing, compared to playing with a real person. I'm not sure how it works -- when I use my white chalk thing, is that to summon someone else to help me? Or to be summoned to help them? I used it by the ladder to the gargoyles fight but nothing happened and eventually it said "your sign has disappeared" or something like that, and I wonder if it I did it right, did it just not find anybody, did I move too far away from it, etc.

I also wonder if co-op people can help you with everything or just the bosses. I fought that headless boss down by the blacksmith and it was such a pain that I eventually took the shameful expedient of standing where his lightning bolts were blocked by debris but I could hit him with my crossbow, and just shot him with a zillion bolts. I felt like I was kind of cheating, and I'd rather have had a buddy to help me fight him.

Finally, I ran around as a human before the gargoyles boss absolutely petrified that I was going to be stomped by some scary invader. Actually nobody ever showed up. Was I lucky or is it not so common?

The town we see from Firelink Shrine is essentially the center area of the Undead Burg

    https://imgur.com/a/7YeVyvq

This is something i've known for a while but never saw anyone posting it. The town we see from Firelink Shrine (more specifically from the cemetery) is essentially composed from various set pieces of the Undead Burg. Most people rarely notice that because we never see the burg from such angle.

Am I safe at level 90 if I want to help people coop the late/end game bosses?

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 04:51 AM PDT

I made a Solaire character and realized if I wanted him to play the way I'm comfortable, he'd have to sit around 85-95. Do most people finish the game around that level/fight the end game bosses close enough that this is realistic?

Blighttown tips: poison resistan armor and shield

    Posted: 25 Mar 2020 06:40 PM PDT

Hi, i was doing my second run in the game, in the first time i had a friend by my side telling me everything to do but now that im on my own i had to figured out how to pass the city with no so much trouble, so i google it and all i can found (at least from reddit) was people complaining about "how hard" the zone is, for that i want contribute with what i did:

First things first - Get to Blighttown

Going all the way down in Undead Parish, were Andre is located, outside you'd see a Titanite Demon, defeating him or runing pass through him you get to Darkroot Garden. There's a corridor on the left, going straight you'd get to a bonfire behind an invisible wall, anyway we need to get somewhere else, going through that corridor turning right theres a path that leads down to Darkroot Basin. It is recommended to farm those Ents creatures in that corridor to get Purple Moss Clump that would help you in Blighttown. Now going down you'll encounter a Black Night (defeating him or pass him through) you'd find a cave with a bonefire on wich you need to rest, just to be sure, you'd probably get killed next.

    Spider shield

Following the cave to it's other end there's an elevator who would lead you to Valley of Darkness, in wich first thing you'd see are a buch of Blue Wyverns (not their actual name), now this is the part when you get killed: at first theres a Wyvern on the left blocking a path and another 3-4 on a bridge; before going foward to Blighttown try runing naked amog the Wyverns on the bridge to get a Spider Shield that has 100% of protection against poison, that would come handy for Blowdart Snipers on Blighttown. Once you get it, on the left side we already talk about theres one Wyvern and up next theres another one in a strait part of the path, going foward eventually you'd get to a small woden bridge at your right, that leads to New Londo Ruins and on your left the entrance to Blighttown.

    Unlocking the shorcut

For now the elevator to New Londo Ruins is closed and we need a key, so get to the left cave and you'd encounter some Infested Barbarian (4 if im not mistaken), if you're quick enough you can out run them and they wouldn't follow you downstairs, but before going down (once again) at the end of the corridor of that cave theres a Chest that contains the key for the shortcut of the elevator to New Londo Ruins.

    Get down on it

Now that you have the key just keep going down the stairs until you get to the swamp, be careful with the poisonous fly that will respawn on and on, for that get your spider shield eqquiped and a large range weapon, and also theres a couple of Flamming Attack Dogs. So once you get all the way down to the swamp just turn left to a cave that has a bonfire.

    Queelaag's

Instead of exploring the area let's focus on killing the boss, 'cause actually she's very easy to defeat. In the bonfire get human and wait to get invaded by Maneater Mildred so she can help to with the Boss, now out of the cave head to your right side towards the way you enter, going further in a distance you'd see another cave in a sand rivers guarded by Infested Barbarianss throwing boulders, in this part just run to the entrance of the cave, avoiding the swamp and the big guys, Purple Moss Clump comes handy on this part. Inside the cave summon Mildred and fight the Boss, once again she's very easy, let Mildred aggro her and star punching from behind, even if your alone just run behind Queelaag and don't stand between her and the lava she will throw you.

    To Hell and back.

Once she's defeated go to ring the second Bell of Awakening, now if you go outside were the bell tower is, you get to Demonic Ruins (in wich you're not supposed to get yet), go thruogh a path filled with egg carriers, at your right theres another path and you'd see in the distance a fog gate that is were we're going, before going through it im warning you that theres no way back unless you die, so equip a Sacrifice ring if you want to keep being human, once inside go foward until you see another boss, dont get scare by the big red guy, he's not gonna attack you and he would help you a little bit later to get out of the place, so going to your right you'd see a corpse, loot it to obtain the Gold-Hemmed Black Set, now the Ceaseless Discharge will warp you over your last visited bonfire by reducing your HP to 0.

    That's It

With the Gold-Hemmed Black Set and the Spider Shield you can easily explore Blighttown, the armor set we just got has overall 240 of poison protection, and the shield is gonna help you with proyectiles. Now theres another way to get the shield in the Depths if you take the shorcut behind the butcher and its on the same chamber as the Giant Rat, and also for better movement you can get the Rusted Iron Ring but i didn't want to get this post to extend.

Note: This "guide" is for getting gear to explore more easily the area, so you can get the items and/or farm the Leechers without having so much trouble with the poison effect.Theres could be better ways but this is what i did and scince i didn't find anything with this info i wanted to share it.

Dark Souls 3 defined my playstyle as Longsword no shield

    Posted: 25 Mar 2020 10:27 PM PDT

And I finished it just fine under, maybe, 200 deaths? (I blame the twin princes and the Soul of Cinder for 2 third of those), average death count on all bosses other than those was around 3 or 4.

Now, Dark Souls Remastered... Even with fast roll I can't do shit ahah. Stuck in the Gargoyle Brothers, died to the fire like 20 times, still stuck.

Dark Souls really has a way of making you feel worthless, jesus. Forced to play with a shield and I suck at riposting

    The journey so far

    Posted: 25 Mar 2020 08:47 PM PDT

So the last week or so, my friend, a dark souls veteran, and I, the opposite, decided to do a run through of DS:R.

I've played the original by myself on xbox 360 a few years ago as a sorcerer. I only got to the blighttown, tried a soul arrow on the ogre, and it did little to nothing and I gave up.

I've found these games to be so intimidating and I just never felt good enough to play them. So I've wanted to go through them but never really had the courage. Something changed I guess.

This play through, I beat havel on a second try without back stabbing, I beat sen's Fuctress by myself,I got through the scaffolding in Anor Londo my first try and Tonight my friend and I each beat Ornstein and Smough. It took about three tries each but it's done!

Now some of these feats I'm sure others have done too, and maybe they aren't that hard but I'm proud that I was able to do it. This game makes all of your success so satisfying and I truly love the lore. I'm glad my friend has been there to help me through because I probably would've lost faith a while ago

Thanks to anyone that listened, sorry for any formatting issues and Praise The Sun!

    What does [blank] represent?

    Posted: 25 Mar 2020 11:18 PM PDT

    [Spoiler]

So this game is full of alot of things that have no definitive explanation, and are completely open to interpretation. Its something I like alot about this games storytelling, but there's one area I couldnt figure out the significance of, and I dont see anyone ever ask about it.

Im talking about the white staircase room between the firelink chamber and the kiln with the ghostly knights. What does it represent? My only guess is that they're simply the souls that gave themselves during the war with the demons, but I could be wrong.

Tips for a first time Dark Souls player

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 04:41 AM PDT

    Hello

I am going to be starting today my Dark Souls Remastered blind playthrough. I know nothing about any of the games, haven't played 2 or 3 (planning to afterwards) and I am usually going for a Platinum trophy. I have played and Platinumed Bloodborne and Sekiro before.

So, what I would like is some character creation tips. What is a good build/class for a new player. I played all Bloodborne with the Axe over utilizing the long rage charged attack but I also loved the speed and blocking abilities in sekiro. I guess I would like kind of a hybrid build between melee and spells. I am looking to you wanderer.

Also, the main reason that I am posting. About the trophies, what are the missable trophies in playthrough. Any tips that will allow me to not miss them without being spoiled? I know I will need to do 2 or 3 playthroughs but I d prefer to do collectibles and most trophies early. Not having missable trophies is a big thing for the enjoyment of a game for me.

    Thank you in advance.

    Bed of Chaos Broke Me.

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 04:35 AM PDT

TL;DR Bed of chaos experience has ruined my enjoyment of Gywn fight.

I pride myself with being a patient person. My able to keep my cool in most games including online ones where you are putting in insane amounts of efforts and your teammates are not playing objectives or feeding.

The 15 or so tries it took me to kill Capra didn't even tilt me. Nor did being cursed after accidentally stumbling into the frogs in the depths and having no clue what they are or what they do.

But despite all this the Bed of Chaos has broken me. I finally beat it after 20+ plus tries. But the journey from the bon firs to the boss, only to be killed by an arm sweep clipping my head, or by missing the jump by a hair. Or by finally making the jump after being bashed around, not healing because I didn't realise the fire storm ability hits down there...

Because of all this my fight with Gywn has been ruined. Although the run to Gywn is super easy. Im just so tilted from my experience with bed of chaos that the run tilts me and Im not enjoying my fights with Gywn.

Im going to take a break. I refuse to end the game feeling this way. Next time I will not do bed of chaos last.

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 02:44 AM PDT

like seriously I've been farming this same spot for 2-3 hours and at random times enemies will become way more aggressive and enemies that stayed at their spots are now rushing me as I'm trying to fight other enemies that aswell are usually less aggressive but are being complete bitches to me all of a sudden.
also, enemies are somehow surviving my hits even though it literally one-shot every other enemy it hit with the same blow.

Is there a secret setting I can change or possibly another game that is similar ?
